Promise ending. I made a thread yesterday, but it died quick. I was angry because I thought I would clear the game with 0 deaths on my first playthrough, but died to the final boss and ragequit on the spot thinking it wouldn't be registered, lol.

Hate when this happens. You have a legitimately great game ruined by its awful fanbase of loud mouthed pseuds. Yeah, the game is great, why do you gays need to so desperately convince yourselves of it? I hate being associated with these people

No it doesn't. It just means it isn't a mass market product so the niche becomes insular.
There's nothing wrong with that, but it does mean naturally insular 'communities' will gravitate to special interest categories, and the present category of special interests are especially toxic that will actively seek to destroy your livelihood instead of vain ribbing and name calling (Black person, homosexual, moron, etc).

Good game? Bad game? Completely irrelevant. It just happens with niche games.

    >but I think it was kino albeit too easy
Yeah it has some serious design issues. Making every enemy revive infinitely sounds like it should be a problem but there's functionally too many save rooms and too much ammo and healing items scattered everywhere, plus it's too easy to run past enemies in the first place. Plus reviving enemies are intimidating or startling charitably once, after that it just becomes a chore like you're running a failing pest-control business or chained to a whackamole machine.
Also too many guns. Six fricking guns by the end of the game, one of which has two ammo types, and not a single unlimited use melee weapon. It wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't have RE's limited six inventory slots but ultimately I only used the flare gun to stop enemies from respawning and the rifle for the final boss because having to frick around with all the different guns was extremely annoying.

    >I didn't understand everything
Because the story is a poorly written jumbled mess. The devs included a lot of literary and historical references to make the plot appear complex when it's just obfuscated for no real reason. Compared to other video games or VNs who use the unique aspects of the medium as an effective way to convey a story or characterization (Return Of The Obra Dinn, 999, Gnosia, Spec Ops The Line) Signalis falls flat and looks like a pretentious fart. But credit where credit's due, the key scenes with Ariane and Elster were really emotional.

Gameplay was nothing special and deliberately incorporated poor design (limited inventory, lore told through scattered noted) from an era when limitations were responsible, puzzles were all samey and too simple except for the artifact ending and game was overall way too short and constantly interrupted by cutscenes. It was still very immersive and fun but I hope indie games don't start trying to make movie games like this going forward in the future, we already have talentless hacks like Kojima for that.

It's poor design because it wouldn't make sense for confidential documents to be left around in the open just ripe for the player to read them.
        >souls
Different genre, and I never played those games so I wouldn't know. Audio logs are cringe and overdone, but more realistic and would have made more sense in the setting. Especially because there is no way Ariane would know those important details of Sierpinski's protocol if we refer to the dream theory

          Anonymous

          >confidential documents to be left around in the open
If you haven't noticed, Serpienski is in complete chaos by the time LSTR arrives.

If one is to interpret everything as a dream, one can still handwave the documents, as presumably the last thing Arianne read was the confidential letter admitting the "pilot program" is a scam to kill bioresonant contenders to the throne.
One could easily imagine her hallucinated flesh gulag would also have confidential documents.

Absolute kino game that despite appearing globohomosexual mid way through, presents the relationship as devotion, and the lengths you’ll go through for the people you love.

The plot is muddy, but that’s because it’s a dream in a dream about perceived recreations of recreations of real people. The important part is that it ends during the promise ending.

And whoever LSTR is/was gets to finally end it and move on to the toten insel with Arianne.

Do people really give a frick about the difficulty of survival horror games? They're glorified adventure games and the biggest challenge is remembering where key items are and get used or maybe the occasional obtuse puzzle.

          Anonymous

The only classic style RE that's hard is REmake on Real Survival and even that has to be unlocked. Maybe arguably RE0 but that's more to the game being incredibly poorly designed than intended difficulty. The actually gameplay requires very little in terms of reaction speed or compex inputs so once you've got the essential systems figured out the only tricky part is inventory and resource management.

It's a great game but as the anon here said the only real discussion you can have of it was when it first released.
I'll contribute anyways, the game has different endings depending on your playstyle, but the head writer said that none of them should necessarily be seen as the "good" or "bad" ending. I feel like that's bullshit though because you can't tell me people who got Leave on their first playthrough would be satisfied with it. I see Memory as sort of the neutral ending where you can still be with Ariane even if she doesn't remember you and Promise as the good ending as you fulfill your promise with her.

I figured it very quickly and then the only scary thing was the story itself which is a shame.

        >Imagine if enemies could move between rooms just like you.
So Dino Crisis 1? Honestly that combined with the infinite enemy revival would probably make the game unbearably annoying, completely outweighing the scare factor.

You can kill enemies permanently with flares. It would be a better experience if they could chase you and if your loud noises could attract enemies in adjacent rooms. The way the game is designed it's very hard for you to get cornered so every room is just run past enemies to the next one and you are fine.

          Anonymous

          >You can kill enemies permanently with flares.
There's like 20 flares total in the game or something and you don't get thermite until like half-way in.
          >The way the game is designed it's very hard for you to get cornered so every room is just run past enemies to the next one and you are fine.
Well yeah, that's what you do in classic survival horror, getting mobbed is RE4 shit. What they actually needed to do is make enemies harder to avoid and reduce the total amount of ammo and healing items, make them able to dogpile you no matter where you are is just irritating, as can be seen in DC1 like I said. That said having just one Nemesis type enemy would be okay, so long as it actually stays down for a while if you fight it.

            Anonymous

            >Well yeah, that's what you do in classic survival horror
Zombie density in RE games is significantly higher than in Signalis and they are also placed in more strategic places for you to trip over them. Not so much in RE1 but in RE2 and 3 and REmake 2 it is possible and the gameplay has more emergent qualities than Signalis if that makes sense. The rooms in RE had better level design for you to be forced to get past zombies in uncomfortable ways too. All of this is absent in Signalis. I still loved the overall experience and I will eventually replay it but just because RE1 did something 20 years ago doesn't mean it can't be improved. REmake 1 also has better zombie placements and crimson heads will frick you up if you come unprepared.
            >That said having just one Nemesis type enemy would be okay, so long as it actually stays down for a while if you fight it.
            This would also help.

              Anonymous

RE2 is the only one with substantial zombie density, RE3 has the beserker speed zombie feature and REmake has CHs as distinctions. Signalis meanwhile runs with the CH idea but applies them to every single enemy in the game and they can only be permently killed by burning, except they aren't stronger or faster or scarier, which is why it's just not as effective. Still better than fricking RE0 though.
              >The rooms in RE had better level design for you to be forced to get past zombies in uncomfortable ways too.
This is the problem with mixing RE with SH, it's too easy to navigate through the environments in Signalis but it's also not murky and disorientating enough to offset that problem like SH does. Also the overhead camera trivializes a lot of the horror aspects and makes navigating far too easy too, they really should've gone for fixed camera's or SH's janky followcam. But yeah, it's a good game but it could've been designed more tightly.

                Anonymous

                >Also the overhead camera trivializes a lot of the horror aspects and makes navigating far too easy too
Exactly and that's why I think what you said wouldn't really be a problem. This:
                >make them able to dogpile you no matter where you are is just irritating
Because of the camera it would be easier to dodge them while also being stimmed out of your mind trying to bolt it because otherwise they would dogpile you.

                Anonymous

I'd rather they just fix the camera instead, it's extremely obvious they wanted to go with the creepy SH atmosphere rather than fending off dozens of zombies ala RE2. The best enemy in the entire game is the one you don't even shoot and have to frick about with the radio instead, they should've focused more on weird and disorienting shit like that instead of trying to push RE mechanics into a SH environment.
