Nintendo will deny this until the cows come home, and we'll deny their claims right back, but the originality in characters, setting, and story was THE lifeblood of the Mario RPGs. The series won't be the same with the mandate holding it back.

Wrong. Tanabe started this autism when he made the claims he did in 2020 during an interview for The Origami King. People simply went back and connected the dots. 2 different sides arrived at 2 different conclusions. Thanks for outing yourself as which side you're on by the way. Tanabe's interviews around the time of Origami King where he directly talked about a bunch of restrictions and how making stuff like the old games would be impossible (character-wise, obviously gameplay-wise it's his fault) would have caused the mandate discussions even if the supposed "leaker" never talked about them before.

They really fricked up, didn’t they? Could’ve done something for Switch but instead went for two remakes that didn’t need remaking.
They were struggling to stay afloat already, the remakes were an attempt to get some quick cash.
Alpha Dream was trying to save themselves from a crashed gacha they invested everything into I think.
What baffles me the most is people being all sad and disappointed they went under or nintendo didn’t save them. They made stupid decisions and reaped what they sowed, not like their death was something that was unfair or undeserved. Yeah sure M&L is more or less dead and we’ll likely not get any more games, but considering it was developed by a studio that thought it would be a good idea to do remakes on the 3ds than the switch and couldn’t stay afloat because of it, do you really want them developing the games?

After Dream Team they needed to work on smaller budget non M&L games, let fans want the series again while they build their capital on other games
Then the Switch is announced, Alpha makes M&L HD game for launch and bam, series is saved, Switch has a good rpg at launch, and M&L is good!

They didn't make that decision, Nintendo told them to and being a company that wants/needs money they took up the job. Nintendo killed them off.

Maybe an rpg game with actual depth to it’s battles rather than just an overreliance qte that make stats and strategy pointless. We don’t need more “rpgs” like m&l or undertale, that just use the whole turn base battle system as window dressing.
Maybe something like Mario rpg or the first 2 paper Marios, otherwise basically like one of those endless runner games.
But that would mean giving gameplay depth. And Mario games can't have depth.

No one, if Mario gets a new RPG I hope it's just... a new RPG. I want a full party with various characters and such, not just variations of Mario and Luigi.
Heck, even if they don't want modified enemies, then give us complete OCs like in Mario RPG or even characters like Donkey Kong and Wario.

If Alphadream had ever made another game I highly doubt they'd ever have wanted to make another Mario & Luigi.
Both Mario & Luigi and Paper Mario should end as the original developers are basically gone (AlphaDream dying for M&L and 90% (possibly more by now) of the original PM staff leaving since Sticker Star). Like of course I want both series back but I think a new RPG series from a new company that takes inspiration from these games much like how PM and M&L took from SMRPG should be made by now.

The original Paper Mario director, Ryota Kawade was busy with fricking Fire Emblem Cipher, but that's finished by now. Dunno what he's working on though. He still hasn't been credited in any of IS' recent games.

Best you can hope for is that someone comes and makes a M&L inspired indie RPG. the only one that comes to mind ATM is Blue Omen Operation, but that's been in kickstarter dev hell for a while.
Just do a lookalike game, like what Bug Fables did for Paper Mario.

I really wish that, before they died, they remade Tomato Adventure and created an english translation for it. It's an incredibly charming game and the fan translation finally got finished last year. Any anons played it?
