homie there's next to zero reason to have a stationary base in this game

The stationary base is a much comfier place to be, easier to navigate, just better.

and yet little utility mostly convenience. the cyclops is also about convenience and with even less utility. both are redundant as you can finish the game with just the hand turbine. it's not a well designed game at the end of the day

It's not large enough for a proper mobile base and the only place where you can recharge it is hard to navigate.

You can use it as a mobile base but there is no reason too.

See I made like 15 very small bases with just enough power for a moon pool and maxed out radar station. My goal was to have every area of the map visible in the various radar stations. I had 100% mo coverage by the end. My "main" base was at the bottom of the giant volcanic shaft just out of range of the first dragon leviathan down there

My only complaint with this was that they never made a fricking dock for it. I don’t care about recharging it I just want a seamless way to walk to and from my megabase to my sub

      Anonymous

they promised this for years since leaving EA and then went silent on it. probably doing it seamlessly was impossible, because of the difficulty in knitting the two independent physics domains without having shit in your base or the sub flip out, as so often happened with the moonpool

a simpler solution would be just to make it a ladder teleport, which they already do for in-base ladders, but they were too lazy even for that kek

It's not even about the overall strategy though. It doesn't have the speed of the seamoth, the extraction of the prawnsuit, the space of a base. It serves no purpose. Designers should be careful when adding stuff to their game so it does serve a purpose.

                >not enough space for a bedroom/office or decorations
Another anon specifically posted a bedroom and it's borderline insulting that you have the audacity to only start talking about how decorations are "subjective" after you brought them up in the first place and were promptly refuted.
                >barely enough space to add storage spaces
Again as someone else has posted, you can put shitloads of lockers in the bottom storage area, plus there's enough room even for several full cabinets on the main deck.
                >too big too take in the most interesting areas of the map
You completely ignored the fact that you can navigate all the way down to the containment facility. In fact the only biome you can't take the sub to is the jellyshroom cave.
                >It's better to have a regular base.
It floors me that you are dead serious when you say this, as if you're assuming that the player either already has a base where they're going, is totally fine with procuring all materials for a base on the spot, or is only ever going to need any of the qualities of a base in places where they know they'll be visiting enough times to require a full-fledged base. What's even worse is that the map design VERY OBVIOUSLY actively encourages having a mobile base that you can carry resources in so that you can stock up nd don't have to worry about going all the way back to the shallows for computer chips or all the way to the deep trenches for aerogel.
Now go ahead and ignore these points too while you backtrack into everything suddenly being subjective despite you being totally fine with making objevtive claims, or better yet just call me an autist because you have nothing substantial to contribute.

                >subjective
Yes, I said there's not enough space he said he felt there's enough. That's why I brought up subjetivity. People make different types of bases, see pic related, and what you consider good enough will depend on the player, especially in terms of fluff/decor.
                >cabinets on the main deck
So again, you have to use the main deck either for storage or customizing it, making the balance between function and form unweildy.
                >can't take the sub
Do you and others think I literally meant too big as for the jellyshroom cave? They obviously make the caverns large enough to be traversed by the cyclops, but it's still massive and in plenty of areas it's harder to navigate. If the cyclops were bigger or the caves larger, it'd be more fun to navigate.
                >last point
I don't assume they have other outposts or bases, my point is that the seamoth and the prawn give enough mobility for ressource gathering and the map isn't large enough that it's a bore to go back to your main base to craft stuff.
                >VERY OBVIOUSLY actively encourages having a mobile base
Specifically to this, if the map were larger, or there were many "islands" seperated by emptiness I'd agree with you but the map is still relatively small where I don't agree at all that it warrants a mobile base.

Am I the only person who ever played this game while being able to manage power effectively? I keep seeing morons complain about the cyclops guzzling power but I never once had any issue with it. Even if you go full moron by running silently everywhere and spamming the entirely unnecessary sonar, you can make more power cells than you'll ever use purely out of resources in the shallows and put a locker full of them literally right next to the cells in the sub.

      Anonymous

      >I keep seeing morons complain about the cyclops guzzling power
some people never noticed that setting up battery chargers in the cyclop would use the sub's cells to recharge the batteries

        Anonymous

That would be for powering your own personal tools. I think to answer his question; perhaps most players never bothered with the upgrades beyond the required ones and never carried any spare power cells despite them being incredibly cheap to make. They also might not have tried advancing to automated underground power sources (such as thermal) and so their primary recharge station is far away on the surface using solar.

The convenience of the Cyclops being a mobile storage box is heavily dependent on the individual player. If they're a hoarder like me it will be invaluable, but if they're a perma seahobo then they would not care for it as much.

          Anonymous

I would think that seahobos would find even more use for it, since it would mean they wouldn't have to always trek back to the life pod for water and wouldn't need to go through the hassle of building a bunch of one-off bases. The only playstyles I think the Cyclops doesn't effectively compliment are when the player builds numerous bases all over the place and when a returning player is just bee-lining around the map to get what they already know they need and don't bother to build anything at all.
