wait for Shin Megami Tensei 5A

This is Shin Megami Tensei 5A. It's like if they released IVA and included the full base IV with the gameplay additions from IVA in the same cartridge.

This is not 5A dumbass this is 5 maniax.

5A would imply it is a sequel (or at least branching path) with different characters.

Vengeance is quite literally a branching path with different characters.

You are literally playing with the fricking Nahobino, if this were 5A you would be playing as someone else, Flynn on IV:A was a guest the MC was Nanashi and the drunk Irishman.

You are quite literally playing a different story. It'd be like if smt4 changed to 4A at the neutral route choice

That's exactly what this game is moron, 4A wasn't a sequel by the way.

Any tips for anons playing this game for the first time?

When it comes to miracles, priortize getting extra skill slots for your main character and demons.

Save your gospels to fight the super bosses. Status ailments actually very strong in this game and bosses aren't immune. Don't be afraid to experiment, everything and every demon surprisingly viable.

      Anonymous

there are rare candies in the game and you absolutely do not want to use them until endgame unless you want to get boned by the superboss
or maybe it doesn't matter anymore since they removed the level scaling or whatever

the original SMTV had level scaling? the frick

          Anonymous

It did not have level scaling. It used level as a value in damage calculations which other 3D SMTs also do, and frankly is the opposite of level scaling. But people here don't play CRPGs so they describe it as level scaling since they don't know any better.

            Anonymous

From what I'm aware, the level calculations were insanely overtuned so they nerfed it.

              Anonymous

It wasn't really that notable until the last area where there was quite a level gap between you and the bosses you had to fight.

              Anonymous

Now this is a true statement. I'm sorry but it triggers my autism when someone calls it level scaling. Level scaling is the mechanism by which enemies scale to player level making level an irrelevant stat in RPGs, it's the polar opposite of SMT games where level is the most important stat and all your demon fusion resources are tied to it. It's like when people call Death Stranding a walking simulator, totally misunderstanding what the term means.

          Anonymous

not sure about the specifics on how it works or what it even means but I was ~lv80 by endgame and Shiva just slapped me out of his fight when I tried it out, didn't have the mitama DLCs (or any DLCs) so I was screwed unless I look up some autistic specific set-up to cheese him or something. took the L and went for the bad ending because the story and characters suck ass.

Do you know what Level Scaling means? Because I don't think it mean what you think it means.

              Anonymous

I literally said I don't know what it means but I've seen people jump out of their seats and clapped when they said "for vengeance we have removed level scaling" so I assume it means what I think it means

every game has level scaling, this time it was just a lot harsher both for and against you, killing the fun either way.

      Anonymous

Don't drop the game once you lose a couple of times, learn from your mistakes and try again.
Most bosses can be beaten without grinding, If you are getting your ass handed to you try using other demons specifically for that boss fight.
      Fuse demons constantly.
Don't focus unlocking all miracles on a single category, by the endgame you will be flooded with Glory.
Don't ignore the skill potential miracles.
      Don't ignore Essence Fusion
Experiment with status ailments since unlike other RPGs, they actually work on boss fights unless they have an specific immunity

        Is poisoning enemies worth doing?

          Anonymous

Yes, I beat the game with a LCK based poison build, was actually my favorite run of the game. Nahobino gets a unique skill with base 100% proc rate for poison (base rate then scales based on your LCK stat vs enemy LCK). What it means is you can guarantee at least procs of poison per fight. There are both skills that Amp poison damage and physical attacks that deal chaser damage to poisoned/statuses ailments, so you can build a whole party around poison. Toxic spray also a super good poison skill that inflicts rakunda along with poison. And Vengeance sounds like it added passive traits that further increase damage against poisoned enemies.

            Anonymous

Hmm, nice, think I'll have to re-evaluate my opinion on poison.

      Anonymous

Aliments are all very strong. You pretty much need to use poison especially on harder difficulties due to how much HP bosses and enemies have. STR is much better than magic in almost every way.

So luck just affects status effects and crit chance I'm guessing?

      Anonymous

It affects status ailment and resistance, including instant kills from Mudo/Hama. But in this game very little has status immunity so it's pretty valuable. Nothing raises crit chance besides passive skills.
