Why would that be a bad thing? There are far too few actual samurai games.
And I mean games that are at least somewhat grounded in history.

this game is basically just an open world nioh 2

    >OH SHIT DARK SOULS! WE GOTTA MAKE AN ARPG
    >OH SHIT BOTW/ELDEN RING! WE GOTTA MAKE AN OPEN WORLD GAME
I wish Team Ninja would stop chasing trends and just go back to making Ninja Gaiden

I remember when everyone said Nioh wasn't trying to be Team Ninja's Dark Souls. Then Wo Long came out and was literally Team Ninja Sekiro.

        Anonymous

Nioh is Dark Souls except without the level design that made that game great.
Wo Long is Sekiro except without the laser-focus and simplicity that made that game great.

Why can't they just make a game that doesn't have 50 fricking menus and three dozen stats?

          Anonymous

          >without the laser-focus and simplicity that made that game great
Nah, Wo Long is very close to Sekiro in that regard as well — you either learn or deflect or you get filtered. I think the main issue is the same as Nioh — level design is not as strong.

            Anonymous

The main issue is that you only need to deflect and do spirit attacks while in Sekiro you had to choose your defence move depending on the attack and you also had to attack yourself because loss of health slowed down the enemy's posture regeneration.

              Anonymous

This is a non-issue. Wo Long is not just "deflect solves anything" thing. Some attacks are easier to dodge that deflect. And you also need to keep attacking. Plus the spells also help in adding a bit of variety.

                >wo long barry is here
Deflect solves almost everything, you lose a substantial amount of spirit damage if you dodge red attacks instead of deflecting.
Also good luck midrolling through Taishi Ci's bullshit.
Yeah keep attacking to get a trade with a red attack.
Magic in these games is essentially the auto aimed shooting and shouldn't be the main focus to begin with.

                Anonymous

Funny you mention taishi chi when completely deflecting his attacks is hard af. But in the end this shit talking about wo long is still nonsensical. It’s just as silly as crying about jumping on enemies head to kill them in a Mario game.

      >BotW/Elden Ring invented open world and made open world games popular
Why do zoomers keep trying to make this claim. Open World games have been extremely popular since forever but especially around AC2/Brotherhood where ubisoft really nailed the "formula" that most games would copy for the next few years. BotW is extremely similar to the newer AC games and Elden Ring pretty much copies the ubisoft formula just with "unique" loot.

nioh was a fluke though, team ninja will never make another good game

Rapier is the greatest and most deadly sword ever made. All of that honorabu nippon steel folded a thousand times meant nothing because they would not have been able to get in range. Cuts wound, thrusts kill.

Nippons using swords in wars is but a myth. The most common weapon were halberds. Same goes for Europeans.
