So gaben has confirmed that they are already working on the Steam Deck two. Is there any reason not to wait to get one?

No specific successor has been announced, and you're just being literally autistic over a vague statement that Valve will (obviously) do more of whatever is successful. But go ahead and wait. By the time "Steam Deck 2" comes out, you'll be asking if you should wait for """Steam Deck 3""". Just don't buy anything ever.
Not to mention that buying a Steam Deck now is pretty convenient if you don't own a modern gaming pc, this thing runs some games (and Yuzu) better than my 2015 desktop.
Just wait for the 50xx Nvidia series.
Get the first one and then use it until the 4th one comes out.
If you wait for the second one then why not wait for the third one.
Usually from my experience the second iteration has a lot of the bullshit from the first gen ironed out. Like the battery life is a huge turn off right now. Gen 3+ is just random shit thrown on to keep people on the just consume treadmill.
Yeah there's a lot of "never get first gen" but lets be real, first gen is where all the hype is. Plus usually they take forever to release the second one before it comes a yearly thing.
>Like the battery life is a huge turn off right now.
You can mess around with in game settings and the Deck settings to get battery life. I'm playing Elden Ring with high settings and can get around 2 and a half hours of battery. That works for me as I don't game that long on a portable console. The best part is I can resume gaming on my PC as soon as I get home right where I left off.
The battery life is literally a non issue once you optimize the settings for whatever game you're playing. And even after that, buy a spare battery and the Steam Deck clip and you'll never run out of charge. Stop getting memed by the trolls
Battery life is the main reason I'm waiting also.
I don't want the hassle of having to 'optimize' the settings on every game to make the handheld not die in under two hours. Low settings + 30-40fps cap sure, whatever. Anything beyond that is too much.
>I don't want the hassle of having to 'optimize' the settings
Get a console then.
Battery complainers are trying to play games that honestly you shouldnt have got the Steam Deck for. Elden ring? You may as well enjoy the graphics on your real pc like I did. Steam deck is really good at being an indie machine (the stuff that makes your 1440p 144fps monitor look overkill) and the battery performance shows. I had a two hour plane ride and played nuclear throne and dead cells the whole time, I still had 65% battery life left.
Because Valve takes their sweet time to releasing anything.
Omg what if like half life 3 lol
Or Team Fortress 2 updates
Or Artifact Foundry (not that anyone except one annoying autist cares about artifact)
Or Deckard
Or Project Citadel
Or the complete Source 2 SDK post-Alyx
Or Counter Strike GO's Source 2 update
In March 2018, Gabe Newell held a presentation on Artifact claiming there would be regular expansions, an eventual mobile release, and a $1 million tournament, all of which ultimately failed to materialize.

In August of that year, Gabe Newell repeated the claim of an Artifact tournament during the opening of The International: https://youtube.com/watch?v=X4xYOmUwad0 [Embed]
On March 30, 2020, Valve announced Artifact Beta 2.0, stating they planned for a closed beta (which happened), transitioning to an open beta and later full release (which didn’t).

On December 17, 2020, Valve stated they would allow users to invite friends to the Artifact 2.0 beta in January.

On March 4, 2021, Valve formally abandoned Artifact. No expansions, no mobile version, no million-dollar tournament, not even something as basic as allowing users to invite friends to the beta like they said they would.
https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/583950/view/3047218819080842820
Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
don't care, didn't read
>still going
Cheers
This happened because no one gave a shit about Artifact and its niche was oversaturated already. It sure is good Valve went back to doing their own thing instead of trying to be Blizzard.
This pasta is so dumb but it always gets a smirk out of me
>Waiting on valve to do things they haven't confirmed release dates for
Cause there's no reason to own any steam dick
>Is there any reason not to wait to get one?
Because you want a handheld now and don't want to wait 6 months for them to show it off and announce its release date, 3 more for them to start selling it and 3-6 more for you to move up the pre-order que to get it because you were 30min late reserving it... at which time someone will make a thread on Ganker saying Deck 3 is in the works, any reason not to wait and get one?
I've already outlined why
Okay, so buy the new handheld when it comes out, Deck is only like $399 and it'll be like 2 years away for the new one anyway.
gabe gear advance features:
> OLED
> dual screen
> 120hz
I've been waiting for the VIVE 2 for 3 years now...
The Deck 2 won’t come out until 2024/5 at a minimum. This console is pretty future proofed
The existing Deck can already play more games than any other piece of hardware except a high-end PC.
they're also working on Deckard
any time now they'll finally say something about it
:^)
I'm not poor and that's like 2+ years away. I'll get a Deck 2 as well. If they stay at the price of a good GPU then PC gamers are upgrading hardware at that rate anyway. Yeah, I'm sure in a few years there will be an RDNA3 based Deck 2. It will be an absolute monster and I will get it day one.
even if you are poor, literally just sell your Steam Deck when the second one comes out
you should be able to get at the very least half of what you paid for it
"we're looking into it" =/= "another one is already in production", we haven't even gone into a single year of deliveries of the first one
If you mostly emulate PS2, Dreamcast and Gamecube games like me you get 7ish hours of battery without tinkering with anything.
You can emulate all of these games on a decent android phone
Just buy sttachable controller joy cons
>buying a new gpu when nvidia is going to release a better one a few years later
>buying a PS5 when sony is going to make a ps6
>buying delicious food when it's just going to disappear after you eat it
Why get a Steam Deck 2 when a Steam Deck 3 could happen?
Better have OLED
If spending 600 dollars on something you wanna enjoy is something that breaks your bank, you got bigger problems in your life OP.
c**t's at valve deleted my feature request for the deck on their proton github. i just want the deck to remember user settings for a game unplugged and when you plug it in, it just automatically uses it's full power.
I don't think there is going to be a steam deck 2 any time soon. I reckon they will try to treat these like console generations.
maaayybbeee some kind of steam deck pro in a few years, but I reckon a full blown hardware upgrade won't happen for at least 5 years.
I think the best indicator of when Valve is planning to announce the Steam Deck 2 is when they finally get around to announcing the availability of the Steam Deck 1 in Australia - because at that point it’s likely they’re looking to move all remaining inventory of the original Steam Deck to make way for the new system
Considering I can't get a deck here regardless sure I guess I'll fricking wait.
Get out of my fricking country gaben if you're not going to give us priority access what the frick.
Aya Neo is bringing a budget 6800u handheld in Oct-Nov. Final price won't be announced for a few days but it'll be around $700 (not including local taxes, shipping and imports). Not cheap but a far cry from the weaker $1200+ Deck alternatives now.
>Aya Neo
$1450 here and deck is apparently $2000
good lord considering I'll bet they break after a few years that is ridiculous
>$1450 here
That's one of the current models, the newer cheaper more powerful Aya Neo Geek won't be out for about a month. They are doing the pre-order announcement in a few days.
Also OneXPlayer is selling refurbished AMD 5800u OneX Mini units for $599 on their website with a 1 year warrantee. A bit less powerful than the Deck but it is available.
They haven't even shipped lokis, you'll get this thing next year and without any real steamos integration which is the whole strength of the deck.
>They haven't even shipped lokis, you'll get this thing next year
Loki? That is made by Ayntec not Aya Neo. Also if the Aya Neo Air campaign is a good indicator they can deliver on time.
Don't know about SteamOS integration but it uses the same 6800u as the GPD Win Max 2 which has SteamOS support so it should not be too far off.
Australia will get Steam deck 1 on the same day the Steam deck 3 releases in the states I swear.
i can play all my bing bing wahoos up until now while on the shitter. the fat bastard fricks my e-girl pussy again
I wish they would up production of them and stock every bestbuy, walmart ect shelves with them.
they should change the name as well, steam deck is meh
Just wait for the Steam Deck 3, it will be better than the Steam Deck 2.
>not waiting for the steamdeck 18 releasing in 2093
They will have life extension technology by then, it will be worth the wait
Why wait when you can get it now?
Like honestly, you can wait for a Deck 2 sure, but the Deck 1 is fine, it can play basically all the big games that have come out this year, it might struggle for the next few years, maybe not
But the fact it can handle games released in 2022, gives a good sign that future games will work.
I don't expect to upgrade my Deck for 10 years cause I don't really play newer games.
But even if I do upgrade, it won't be until Steam Deck 3
Deck 2 will be great, lotta QoL, but the Deck 1 will still be able to handle the games, not as good as Deck 2 sure, but good enough that there won't be a reason to really buy one.
Plus I also like the historical aspect of owning a Deck 1.
If the trend of Deck keeps going, the Deck will be around for years to come, so having the first one and seeing it compared to Deck 5 or whatever, will be neat.
It's like looking at the Gameboy to GBA
Or DS to Switch.
For god's sake. Really history is destined to be repeated over and over again because folks forget everything so quickly
For all who are advising OP not to wait for the next Steam Deck because it's also logical to wait for the successor of the successor I have a question for you... Since when Gabe Newell knows to count to three?
Checkmate, Gankertards.
Bought one for fun lets go Deckchads
I don't know what to do. I don't need one, I have a Switch, a PS5 that I never use, a 3060Ti/3600 gaming PC that I hardly play vidya on anymore. I don't need a goddamn Steam Deck but for some insane reason I want one so bad. I know for a fact it will probably end up in my drawer but I'm willing to break the bank to get one, since it would drain 70% of my current available savings.
When push comes to shove I falter because I've canceled my reservation twice now to try and be responsible but I always circle back around to this. I hate being so goddamn indecisive.
Just get one, and once you've tried it and don't like it sell it for a profit
What profit? They're increasing production, they aren't a rare commodity anymore.
they are not as rare, but production isn't quite on par with demand yet
also, it's still not available for sale in a good 90% of the world
but yeah, the margin of profit for resellers has been greatly diminished
spending 70% of your savings on something you're not 110% sure you want is a big mistake
even in the scenario where you actually get more use out of it than you initially thought, it still won't be worth it
It boils down entirely to portability. For many it can replace a desktop for that reason alone. I wouldn't break the bank for it if you're hurting for cash, but if you value portability it will invalidate your Switch and get you back to playing your PC games again.
fricking newbies, new tech is ALWAYS in development. nintendo is probably already testing stuff that will be incorporated in the eventual console that will come after the switch 2.
the deck 2 hasn't even been ANNOUNCED yet. some of the tech that powers it isn't really publicly available yet, either.
enjoy waiting
If you care about portability, get one.
If you don't care as much about portability, wait.
If you don't care at all about portability, don't get one.
I bought one because I'm not broke and I like vidya, simple as.
I just want a steamdeck with an OLED screen. IF they put one out I'd buy it day one.
>Hasn't even sold 1 million
>complete flop compared to the Vita
>planning a sequel
>snoy pissed
per usual
well nintendo won't exist in 10 years so might as well get in now before it becomes too popular
If you want to wait 2 to 3 years, sure
No need to wait. Steam saying they're working on deck 2 is the same as that Sony is already working on the ps6. Those things take years, and before you know it, you'll be dead. Its always now, never tomorrow
better wait for eck 3, since deck 2 will be beta testing for it
you wouldn't buy a ps5 right? its a beta test for ps6
never buy X, its always a beta test for X+1
>check how FF7R runs on Deck after mainly playing older games that run smooth at constant 60fps
>It looks blurry as frick, I can either choose to have it look nice at the cost of stutter and loud as frick fans or blurriness
I mean, its still impressive that it even runs on a fricking handheld at all but I really wouldnt mind getting a Steam Deck 2 someday.
I have no where else to say this and no one to say it to but I placed my order for my steam deck. I’m very excited to play all my comfy steam games in bed.
My Switch Lite turned my gaming PC into a web browsing machine, I hope your Steam Deck does the same for you. There is just something great about gaming on a portable, I like it better than big screen and controller.
Jacket runs really slow in hotline Miami on the deck. Any ideas?
