So, I finished Paper Mario TTYD. I'm fairly disappointed.

So, I finished Paper Mario TTYD. I'm fairly disappointed.
Even ignoring the hype, the game has massive flaws that go against my type of experience I wanted from a Paper Mario.
The biggest flaw is easily the fetch quests sending you back and forth the furthest places possible over and over and over for no reason.
The Peach sections are 100% useless and the Bowsers are a glorified cutscene for no apparent reason.
The partners are almost all worse than the 64 counterparts for the most part.
Not a bad game, but far from being at 64 level.

I know it's vogue to shit on Miyamoto, but for frick's sake dude, things were already doomed for Paper Mario by Sticker Star because Tanabe was running the show as Producer and most of the original team that was involved with PM64 and TTYD wasn't there anymore.
Whether or not he showed up and said what he said as a mere suggestion (and NOT one anyone at IS had to take. Japanese Culture only worries about "Respect Your Elders" if they're a DIRECT superior that's overseeing and getting involved in your work. Miyamoto at this point was nothing more than the idea guy and more focused on being an entrepreneur) Tanabe was STILL going to make Sticker Star a shitty gimmick game with no EXP, no meaningful combat, shitty Stickers, shitty puzzles and everything garbage that came with.

64 is better than TYD, but SS is complete trash that disincintivizes you from actually doing fights which is stupid. After SS, I gave up on the series.

    >partners have no HP
    >BP limited to 30
    >partners are non-existent outside of their introductory chapters, TTYD's at least have some flavor text
I can't fathom why anyone would put 64 over TTYD.

Goombella has all of that and then more. No contest.

I like PM64 a lot more than TTYD
TTYD is very good, Rogueport is cool, Glitzpit was incredible the first time through, the partners and expanded combat is good, all the additional postgame content is great
But a lot of the chapters are pretty lousy. Boggly Woods is boring as frick, the Creepy Steeple level is backtrack city, Keelhaul Key before you get into the grotto is backtrack city, the Bob-Omb segment is backtrack city, the Moonbase is horribly disappointing, the Palace of Twilight or Shadow or w.e doesn't live up to Bowser's Castle in PM64

By comparison the two worst levels in PM64, Shy Guy's Toy Box and Flower Fields, are just kind of dull compared - they don't really hurt the game beyond that. I could play PM64 from front to back like once a year. TTYD I really don't ever need to play again.
