I recently did a story replay after having played it back in like 2014 and it was kinda jarring how goofy some parts of the game were IMO. Once you beat the story mode there's barely anything interesting to do.

    Both
    >it was kinda jarring how goofy some parts of the game were
They clearly didn't care much about the writing of this one after the backlash IV got for being serious, this swung too hard in the opposite direction. They clearly took what was started with GTA4 and continued it with the Red Dead games because RDR2 feels like the complete opposite of V.
I hope VI is a good middle ground, I want it to have some earnest moments, I want to care about the characters.

I totally agree on the story writing part, GTA4 was so kino in comparison, it couldve been a decent movie. GTA V feels like some kinda fever dream fan fiction.
VI is gonna probably be a wokeshit troony propaganda mess unfortunately

It was a solidly fine GTA game. GTA isn’t about the story and shit. It’s about being a mass shooter/mass cop killer. It did that part fine enough. Online just took it to a new ludo level.

But yeah like all GTA games of course there’s nothing interesting to do once the story ends. The interesting thing to do is get a plane and kill people. GTA IV did all that wrong in favor of having some “deep” Michael Mann tier plot. I want a jet pack and twin sawed off shotguns so I can be the damn future police

A perfect GTA game should have a kino story and well written characters plus good rampage mechanics and an engaging police/military/spook response that makes it so the stars actually matter a lot, six stars should feel like a death sentence, it was in san andreas, less so in gta4, very easy to lose the cops in gta 5

None of the GTA stories are great, get over it. Might as well be mob movie #3458. Even IV was hamfisted af. The Godfather game had better story than all GTA’s lol

monkeys pretend that any of the gtas were well written when really they have serviceable stories with fun characters.
Only issue with 5 is that most of the characters were not top notch, but still many like Lamar, Russian border patrol guy, Frank's aunt were still very fun.

    cons
    >huge file size
    >empty open map
    >everyone suck but lamar
    >no character customization
    >online focus is bullshit

    pros
    >1st person is a cool addition
    >still looks pretty to this day
    >gameplay is solid

nothing memorable about it except it refusing to die

Trevor was the best written character IMO, but he was written to be crazy to point of it being too edgy, him simply being prone to typical sociopath instability wouldve been enough
They were on the right track with Michael's character but I think him having a family simplified his reasoning and motivations for what he did in the past. Him being a piece of shit for selfish reasons and always trying to constantly justify it (without going back to his family) would have been a realistic character.
Lamar is street stupid but witty in speech, and much more interesting than Franklin who is probably the most boring diversity hire main character of all the GTA games, and it's not just because he's a Black person, San Andreas knew how to make kino Black person characters.

      >Empty open map bad
I think this is the best GTA map yet exactly because of the contrast it has with different areas. It feels much bigger than it actually is because of that variety. Other GTA games feel like you're just in a single city

In hindsight it's clear they were dumping all the spy stuff meant for Agent on a GTA game.

      Anonymous

Could be. It might explain the wacky super spy missions with Steve Haines. GTA games always have these mid-game segues with spy subplots, but GTA 5 took things a little bit too far where it revolves around half the game's plot.

        Anonymous

another badly written point with Haines is how he shoots himself in the leg at the Lab (forensics would be able to prove it was self inflicted, and FBI agent would be aware of this) and in normal gameplay, your next interaction with him would be a few days later. This happens a second time as well at the Kortz center shootout, and he miraculously recovers from the gunshot wound a few days later. Even mild gunshot wounds can take months or even years to fully recover in some cases.

They should never have moved away from the time period settings.

Where the frick is my 1970s San Fierro/Las Venturas blaxploitation GTA where you switch between playing as Foxy Brown and a corrupt cop based on Russell Crowe in American Gangster?

V was pretty bad. I couldn't finish it and I love older GTA games. Such a fall from grace.
The entire game felt shizophrenic, the jokes weren't good, the satire was barely satire, dull characters and simplistic gameplay.
Driving and plenty of little graphical things felt like a step back (damage models, physics,...).

6 is going to be complete ass.
    >Bullshot riddled trailer (first time ever in a GTA trailer, which tells me all I need to know)
    >literally NO satire, just copy paste tiktok vids 1:1
    >le bonny and clyde generic story
6 is going to be soulless slop pushed, only a GTA in name to sell the LIVE SERVICE GAME

I only ever play online in private lobbies and if I have a group to play it with.
GTA Online in a public lobby is the most cancerous, dogshit experience I've ever had in a game, and I say this as someone who was addicted to solo queue League of Legends back in college.

Lack of good competition. If they didn't fricked the Driver franchise people would realize how shitty the driving mechanics in the GTA games are.

      Anonymous

that and another gripe I have is the NPC drivers will violate traffic laws (way more than what happens IRL) and it almost seems like they conspire against you to make you crash and frick everything up

        Anonymous

gta v drivers are awful. in IV it'd take a minute before traffic got pissed and began acting erratic to avoid whatever situation you created, in V it's like drivers are permanently in that mode

          Anonymous

the NPCs love to change lanes in intersections
and at rest too, there's also no blinkers in GTA, sure many people dont use them IRL, buts there's ZERO in game, no way to tell what NPCs are gonna do
I swear to God I've also seen them spawn out of ether (where its just impossible for there to have been a car there before) to create collision risks for the player when theyre speeding

            >the NPCs love to change lanes in intersections
that's probably the most realistic part.
I have a friend who is a delivery driver and he once snapped at me defensively when i pointed out how often he changes lanes illegally

            >there's also no blinkers in GTA
this is what really gets me. people are awful around here for not using their signals but not to the point of them basically not existing.

GTA IV cars signalled all the time IIRC, it was great immersion

            >I swear to God I've also seen them spawn out of ether
sadly that's been a problem since GTA 3, culling and spawning gets confused real easy. lots of video clips of people looking behind them on an empty highway and then having cars right in front of them when they look back

It was good. I just finished replaying it for the first time too and I enjoyed it, but I'd have Vice City and San Andreas over it pretty easily in terms of quality for their time, but you are going to get more than your money's worth in the base game.

They clearly cut content to save for the online version though. That is why it felt a little empty at times and makes it fall behind some of the others. They could have had way more races, a working casino, more content with the gangs of the city, more houses to buy, and so on. All that stuff was saved for online.

They are going to save a lot of the GTA 6 stuff for the online version as well. Like it wouldn't surprise me if they have something like deep sea fishing as a mini game but save it for online.

Rockstar staff clearly don’t know how to write minority characters. It’s been an issue they’ve had for a long time. Just look at picrel. I’m hoping they get some new staff that can better help them with that weakness for GTA 6.

I'll have to disagree, the police system in rdr/rdr2 really ruin those games. At least gta you can get away easily, rdr2 you can't even fricking rob anything anywhere without being caught some how.

Black person you can get a wanted level then drive off a bridge in the mountains and hide behind a bush and the cops b line to you.

you can shoot a person in the middle of nowhere with no one around and cops come straight to you.

Driving and car customization really ruined it. I remember watching the leaks a few weeks prior to release and seeing the driving turned back into an arcade game again. Was extremely disappointed, i even made an account just on whatever that site was and had the leaker take a few cars into the customs shop and seeing it have barely anymore mods than SA had inner a decade prior was a huge turn off. I'll be honest, I never actually beat the game. Only GTA to this date that I haven't 100%. Think people flocked into online mode just because of how bland the sp was, at least there you could talk to people, but that got stale after a couple years and the Black folk/kids just play prominently now.
