Yeah but a bunch of articles also predicted Guardians of the Galaxy was going to flop because the character were too weird and hard to relate. Navis are boring as frick so they had to compensate by making the design as appealing as possible, meanwhile general audiences love "witty" "quippy" marvel writing so they got away with a non traditional cast.
I would like to say the lesson here is, if you need to make the character humanoids is because you are a hack and what matters is good writing but that is not exactly what happened

The bipedal, humanoid, form makes sense since you need complexand nimble manipulator limbs (hands) to handle tools. The easiest way is to transform your front limbs into hands.

            Anonymous

Bipedalism raises the head; this allows a greater field of vision with improved detection of distant dangers or resources, access to deeper water for wading animals and allows the animals to reach higher food sources with their mouths. While upright, non-locomotory limbs become free for other uses, including manipulation (in primates and rodents), flight (in birds), digging (in the giant pangolin), combat (in bears, great apes and the large monitor lizard) or camouflage.

The maximum bipedal speed appears slower than the maximum speed of quadrupedal movement with a flexible backbone – both the ostrich and the red kangaroo can reach speeds of 70 km/h (43 mph), while the cheetah can exceed 100 km/h (62 mph).Even though bipedalism is slower at first, over long distances, it has allowed humans to outrun most other animals according to the endurance running hypothesis.Bipedality in kangaroo rats has been hypothesized to improve locomotor performance, which could aid in escaping from predators.

The answer is that characters need to be humanoid in some way.
You can get away with characters not looking like humans, but then they'd have to act like humans to compensate.
You can't have aliens that look weird and act weird. That's too much for general audiences.

    >why
Shit taste. Possible inspiration from scientology and/or conspiracy theories expressing the idea. Somewhat possible that the setting's writer hasn't seen/heard the concept before or seen/heard it executed in the manner they are executing it. Maybe they really just like aliens and want to make them a big part of the setting. There are possibly numerous other factors I haven't considered, too.
Since I took the time to earnestly answer your question, perhaps you could address one I have:
In a hobby that's largely predicated on building what you want (at least on the adventure/roleplaying side of things), why does it matter what other people are doing?

Having a better understanding of others can lead to a better understanding of oneself... Also collectively dunking on an overused trope you don't particulate care about is an indulgent but cathartic way to kill time

        Anonymous

        Fair enough.
I get it, but I'd rather just make what I like. That way I have something a bit more tangible than fleeting catharsis, especially when the "dunking" is largely ignored by the people who need to hear it the most.

Because we humans are narcissistic b***hes that need to make ourselves the guaranteed protagonist and center of attention in everything we make.

  9. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

Because the writers went back and forth on making humans the progenitor species ending the series on the side of humans having gotten the battlestar galactica treatment.
Then the new writing team for the revival changed their mind again and so had to make a bunch of retcons that took supplemental side novels to fully clear up.
If you both know and care (which I assume you would to know) if sucks doesn't it

Why not? It gives humans an isekai element that explains why a familiar race is in such an unfamiliar setting.

I prefer the opposite with humans being the only known race not created by the precursors throwing a spanner into the gears of the predestined cosmic order.

The rest are weapons, manual and administration slaves and ambulatory farming equipment.

Humans are basically the result of the last remaining pocket of the Precursor race, becoming inbred and losing it's technology and culture.
They are strangely alluring to the later-born races, this would essentially make humans the "elves" of the setting.

I like using humans as descendants of the precursor species, then again I tend to do less
    >modern humanity (plus a couple hundred years to allow for scifi tech) finds out that it is descended from the local precursor species
    and more
    >degenerated remnants of once-great species crawl around the ruins of their former glory, wielding weapons and technology that may as well be magic to the younger species, but whose internal functions even they themselves no longer understand

Star Trek does this every once in a while, which is disappointing. I just like us happening to be space fairing bros associating with other space fairing bros while trying to dodge the god like egos of other powerful alien species by upholding the Prime Directive. Q's constant gushing about human potential always puts me off. We choose not to be like Q's because deep down we airn't douche bags.
