Its false, there is a moment near the end of the game where you'll need to spend a small amount of nanites on a essential item and that's it

no, people refer to the research skill which you need to have during the story but you can use an implant to boost it and you will also get free upgrade material for it (though on the very highest difficulty it costs more to upgrade than what you get) you will also need to hack exactly once but get several free hacking items during the game

It's almost impossible to get locked. The game even goes its way out to grant you shit needed for that ONE (1) task later on.
I would assume that any even slightly curious player would put points in skills that let you utilize most features in the game anyway.

you can effectively get soft locked if you play it like a moron as an FPS and run out of resources and don't spec properly at common filter points like the cargo bays

has everyone who played SS2 played the first game?
    How do the two compare?

Yeah I've played both several times. It's currently hip to pretend one is dogshit and the other is the best thing ever because you're not allowed to like more than one game. 1 is very advanced for its time and I actually like playing it with the original control scheme in DOSBox but it's still a 1994 game with 1994 pathfinding and AI so the enemies are dumb as shit and get stuck on corners even if there's some really forward thinking stuff like sound and light level taken into account for AI detection. SS1 is really a more elegant Ultima Underworld with none of the annoying trappings of the key hunting wall humping dungeon crawlers of the time + guns and while it's arguably less impressive that SS2 stapled on Ultima Underworld mechanics back into the series with the RPG mechanics and psionics, I think the AI, encounter design, and general systems are overall better in SS2. You should play both and also play Terra Nova which is a criminally underrated LGS game.

I agree with most of the shit you wrote other than this sentence. It takes after a lot of Ultima Underworld but it's a really different game. And Ultima Underworld's not really about key hunting and wall humping at all. If anything System Shock 1's more about key hunting and wall humping than UW. One of the coolest things about Underworld was that if you hadn't found a key you could just punch a door to death and open it that way. You can't do that in System Shock, you have to find the right keycard or code or destroy the right node or whatever.

While it's true you can bash many doors in UUW, you do have to find secret walls and areas in order to get the artifacts needed to beat the game. Meanwhile in SS1 you always know what you are doing and where to go next and the puzzles present have been streamlined into the wire puzzles.

SS1 has weird controls and an unusual interface, but you can get used to it pretty easily if you have a mind for old school game design. The various QOL mods available for it are essential.

SS2 is good and is probably more approachable, but the various mechanics aren't as well balanced and the story falls apart a bit towards the end.

I don't think SS1 is particularly balanced either it just has the benefit of no RPG mechanics so your playstyle is whatever you are using. Last playthrough I did everything on max difficulty but the timer and the magnum was practically useless since the hollow points aren't much better than the ML pistol with the faster rate of fire and by the time you get enough the game will throw tons of armored bots at you. The assault rifle in SS2 is no less broken than the Skorpion and the rail gun is pretty shit.

SS1 enhanced edition plays like a modern game. SS1 > SS2, but both are great

I think you must have at least research 1 to progress the game but not only game explicitly tells you that it's needed it will also give you enough free points in case you don't have it.

If you spec for combat its easy as shit. Use the assault rifle on single shot with AP rounds to drop hybrids in one shot.

Mostly false, for the final boss you can use three items you pick up to instantly hack the shield terminals (although this is to be fair very obscure and not excusable in terms of game design) or you can just shoot the final boss's shield and break it.
Technically there is one terminal you HAVE to either hack or use one of your instant hacking items on, and then buy an item with. However, probabilistically it's a pretty low chance that you either can't hack it, used up all the hacking items, or don't have enough nanites to buy it. Still something that could probably be fixed in the remaster.
There are many more CRPGs out there that have worse problems. Fallout 1's final level springs top mind as one where I had to go back 40 minutes and respec to beat the game

Technically you can but you would have to do it on purpose so dont worry about it, also if you play on normal dont even bother ever putting points into endurance.
