No, that title goes to either Super mario 3, World, or the 6 golden coins. Honorable mention to wario land 1 and Virtual boy wario land.

I actually haven't played 3, Is it still worth playing? I suppose I could emulate the SNES remaster.

But then again, the lack of wall jump might make it feel like shit, idk.

Wasn't NSMB (for DS) the first 2D Mario with the wall jump? I'm sorry if I'm misremembering.

          I don't even know man...

          3 and world are better

land 2 is better than 1, but that's really not a high bar to clear

I still can't comprehend land 1. The only reason to defend it is because of daisy I guess.

The NES version has more "soul".
It's meant to look like a stage play, but the snes one completely missed the point.
Also the levels are not designed around wall jumping, so you won't miss it, its more about simulating mario with your head to know where he will land, and if you're good enough with it, you can run thru the stages and abuse the bounce of enemies etc to go really fast.

To be more specific, the fun of mario 3 is trying to keep your speed bar like this as much as possible.
Mario can jump higher, fly and do all sorts of fun if you're good enough to keep this going.

Huh, wasn't 3 the game with the raccoon suit? Heard you just get that power up and fly over everything.

You can do this on a bunch of levels, yes.
But there are many where you get your ass toasted by trying this stunt.

Sorry I think you're getting confused.
I'm talking about mario land 2 and mario land 3 (wario land 1). Mario land 1 was just okay, but a good mario option for its time until better games came along.

6 Coins is creative, but I just can't enjoy that game's physics. That alone brings it down a peg for me.

Wonder is far too easy. I played 3D World right after and while it has a reputation for being an easy game, I died tons more than in Wonder. I kind of like it better, but Wonder is definitely a more polished game that is designed to wow you with tons of "holy shit, you can do this?" moments. Kinda torn on it.

3D World feels like the natural evolution of the original 2D Mario games. In that sense, I'd rank it the highest, and by a wide margin. Everything NSMB and after, including Wonder, feels like a B-tier production, a side project, whereas 3DW feels like Nintendo went balls to the wall to try to make a classic Mario game that lives up to the effort and innovation that those games brought to the table

Wonder suffers from characters not having different skills like in 3D World, which also kills the game's replay value, and stamps are just not a good replacement.

        Anonymous

I don't know if that makes Wonder suffer necessarily. It's a bit of a let down, but it's not like there isn't loads of replayability with the different badges.

I would certainly like to see both at the same time. Having characters with different playstyles that you could accentuate with badges would be great.

      I prefer SMB3 and SMW.

I liked 3D World + Bowser’s Fury more than Wonder as well.

It was OK but nothing great

I agree with this, there isn't a lot of competition. SMB3 and SMW are instant classics, they'll always be remembered; but other than those games we're looking at a lot of games that aren't even 2D. Super Mario 3D World takes place on a 3D planar scale, NSMB and NSMBU are really the only contenders, and they don't compare to Wonder at all.

honestly it's held back by the wonder gimmick needing to be in every stage

You guys would be gobbling up Wonder if it had a Giant Land and blaring hip-hop music every time Mario picked up a Wonder Flower.

I had a lot of fun with it. I do think it needed some more challenge to the base levels though. And more levels for the final bowser world.

    hello no, fotm gimmick game

  13. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

No. It had promise but the is too much gimmicks and not enough difficulty. The game is already big but seriously needed to be twice as long and a better difficulty that wasn’t concentrated to a few levels.

It would be best if it had a real Mario World-style map, i.e. one that opens up new paths, leading to new levels, shortcuts, etc., with several connected paths, etc.
But unfortunately, Mario Wonder's World Map is quite disappointing, especially when you realize that one of the only secret exits is at the beginning, and it leads you to a useless reward.
