So was Nier Automata the only financially successful game from Platinum Games?

I'm kind of bummed that FromSoft and Miyazaki get so much critical and commercial success for rewarding skillful play , but PlatinumGames never seem to catch a break.
Americans aren't into Kaiju/Sentai/Mecha weirdness (as the Monster verse and Pacific Rim and Titanfall flopping show) so Kamiya's next game will probably flop too tbh.

Amazing how cuhrraazy fans forgets to mention you can't do anything similar to DMC or Bayonetta in that game when it comes to combo potential. Best you can do is juggle them but even that's not necessary, best you can do is combo an attack into another but weapon changing is like ass, even with analog controls. No idea why people like it so much.

There has to be a story behind that games development. It was made from reused assets from FF14 and had mobile game tier graphics. I wonder if it was a cheap F2P/mobile game that got retooled for some reason

        >Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
A fantastic example and really managed to bring the excellent PT combat into the Metal Gear setting mixed with Kojima weirdness and over the top action. Native on PC, a worthy addition to the MG saga with aa totally different take.
        >Vanquish
Perhaps one of the more "western" focused in that its basically a Spess Mahrine shootan gaem, but its a good one and you gliding around shooting, dodging and the like is a nice variation on PT's normally melee focused titles.
        >Bayonetta 1, 2, 3
Excellent, pure character action. If you like the genre, you're going to have fun with this here and most seem to like the setting and characters. Kinda curious if PT is involved in that new Bayo-as-a-kid prequel thing which looks completely different
        >Wonderful 101
Massively underrated, sleeper hit that originally came out on WiiU and has unique mechanics because of that. Remastered version on modern consoles and especially PC is definitely worth it - its a pity it didn't get more publicity and show up on sales frequently on Steam. If you like super sentai/tokusatsu this is your game, its a loveletter to everything in that trope. However the mechanics can be a little daunting because of the need to "draw" (with the control stick,) certain forms but they're simple enough like circles, lines, L shape etc. Overall very enjoyable but didn't get as much praise as it should have - they're actually still making new expansion/DLC for it!
        >Astral Chain
Pity its Switch only, but thankfully can be emulated well on PC! Very Japanese, future-police-with-cyberpunk-monster-on-leash, adds new dynamics to the combat. Definitely worth playing
        >Nier Automata
Brings PT style combat to the SquareEnix "Drakengard" setting with its own wackiness. Plus robot breasts and ass, impactful storyline along with PT character action
        >Sol Cresta
Under the radar, this shmup is sequel to ancient JP arcade title. Out of room, but well made

They really need their own IP. Every successful game they've made was someone else's so they can never milk it and turn it into a franchise, that's what separates them and From. When From hit it big with Dark Souls, they made 2 sequels and a spin-off with the exact same formula before ever doing anything different.

From knows game design. They know art design. They know atmosphere. They know lore. They waifus.

Everything PG knows is a battle design. That's it. Everything else is absolute trash. That's why Nier Automata works. That's why MGR works. They can't make a good game if their lives depend on it. But they can take a nearly finished game and insert their battle design

No they don't. Demon souls and dark souls are shovel ware tier games, as was their whole catalogue. I'm a big From fan before soulshit, and part of the appeal was they did different shit while feeling slightly budget. AC series is a big on, never up to par on any console in terms of graphics or game design. But because they did everything different, their games felt fresh and fun
This is why the soulshit took off, it filled a gap that the rapid assassins creeding of the industry had left.

I agree with the overall point but don't know if Dark Souls is the best example, because it is just NotDemon Souls, the Sony IP. And before that they used to be the Armored Core guys, maybe is not as big, but they milked that one way before dark souls was even a thing
