So we all agree this is the greatest boss of the past 10 years in gaming, right?

what is with you people and these meme boss fights
MLGkids.
You posted the wrong image
Neither of those is Zhang Liang.
what game is this
Wu Long
man, i wanted to try this but it got beat up in the reviews
It's a solid 7/10 game. Far from great but no issues big enough to ruin the experience
what if i played sekiro and loved it. is it same?
Haven't played Sekiro, most similar game I've played is Nioh 1 minus the stances
You have the choice to be more aggressive in wo long. You could even do a build where you completely avoid the parry mechanic and it would still be viable. Plus it's much more rewarding to parry in wo long than in sekiro
>Plus it's much more rewarding to parry in wo long than in sekiro
lol.
I'm not buying it because it has body types
Wo Long
she's not fun to fight
she is actually , all her attacks are fun to dodge
the only move that requires great effort is waterfowl
>fun to dodge
a lot of souls bosses are fun, including melania, but "fun to dodge" is the most retarded take
She's not particularly good in Elden Ring. She's carried entirely by Waterfowl and the health regen. If she was in Sekiro she would have been fun.
Obviously
>dude what if what if
>dude what if we made our soulsop boss some BIG ARMORED DUDE with a SOWRD
>and due listen, he WALKS SLOWLY towards the player
>*rips bong* shit and meanwhile like sad piano music is playing you know
>but DUDE what if
>what if instead of a DUDE
>what if it was a CHICK????
That anime attack is incredibly lame.
The rng on it is ridiculous too, there were times I got to phase two with her only using it once or none even. Then other times she just spams it.
I'm the only one that didn't have any problem with it? I just blocked one hit and dodge, I beat her in the 3rd try
It's perfectly fine.
>she still heals herself even if you don't take damage
shit sucks
If she didn't, there would be literally nothing she could do against Barricade Shield. Really it's Barricade Shield's fault. I loved that Ash of War but it's blatantly broken and pretty creatively lazy. You block but you block even harder. Shields in general are kinda shit when it comes to ashes.
Dragonclaw Shield should have had the Call Lightning ability that they show the Dragon Sentinel using.
by what meausre
LET. ME. COOK. HER.
i don't see what the big deal with her was
just level up to level 160 or so, then summon in two helpers
easy fucking peezee.
Maybe if your summons are competent and you're not retarded. Half the time Ico-op the stupid host rushes in and gets BTFO near instantly by a combo. Or they get owned by the first scarlet aeonia 2nd phase which is like the most intuitive attack to dodge ever.
🙂 my post was dripping with sarcasm, sorry. i hear people spending 8 hours trying to take down a boss, and i just don't get the point.
i'm on my first playthrough and i've reached "fuck it status", took a few pulls on her solo and decided it wasn't worth the hassle... which i think is where ER kind of falls short of DS3 (the only souls game i've played, so maybe i'm biased) -- ER has all these mechanisms to help you through challenges (mohg's rune farming, ashes, summons, etc etc)whereas in DS3 (and i'd imagine previous games) you are kind of stuck until you can skill your way through the fight.
like with DS3 the lothric fight took me dozens and dozens of attempts to beat (same with nameless king). when i finally did win, it actually felt a bit like an accomplishment. had i been able to summon in a collaborator i would have done exactly that and cheated myself out of an actual win.
DS3 is much more tightly balanced but it's also much much more linear which makes sense. You can also farm (take a UGS to archdragon peak and poke the summoned knights to death, 10K souls per pop). It's not much worse than shooting the bird at Mohgwyn. You can also summon for bosses in DS3, why didn't you?
well, the farming in ds3 is nothing compared to mohgs though, sure there's the bird, but then the little albinauric dudes are like 3.2k each (with the scarab talisman and gold fowl). i'm using ruins greatswrd and the weapon art lets me clear the entire camp in about 5 seconds. which is at least 30k runes. so +40k runes in a very short time with zero risk of death.
also with ds3 there's conditions to the summons, like with lothric and nameless king i had no available summons, so i had to solo them. whereas in ER like every single boss and/or miniboss has a summoning effigy, and the calling fingers are trivial to make.
don't get me wrong, they're both great games. just seems ER is easier and less balanced.
ER wants you to win, and falls all over itself to make it happen; DS makes you earn it.
Can't you just ember up and summon for every boss in DS3? I'll admit I have no idea what restrictions there are for summoning in these games since I'm always on the other side (as in being summoned).
>ER wants you to win, and falls all over itself to make it happen; DS makes you earn it.
I feel like ER wants you to lose with all the rollcatch 10 hit boss combos and super high damage, but then the developers realized that wouldn't be fun and added in a bunch of unbalanced shit to make it easier.
that's a big shrug from me hoss. I played DS3 last year and the servers were perpetually offline, i have no idea how multiplayer works there 🙂
i was referring to NPC summons, there's usually some quest or other world conditions that have to be met before you see their summon signs.
Ah that makes a lot of sense. No multiplayer when servers are offline. I only summoned NPCs once for champion gundyr because the sword guy beat the shit out of me the beginning of the game.
I chunked every last DS3 boss as a wizard with truly minimal effort on my part. The only vague challenge was having to beat a crippled prince to death with my +2 longsword. Which wasn't even that hard because his brother struggled to give piggybacks when I threeshot him.
jesus anon, how do you walk with such a huge horsecock hanging out down there?
admittedly i suck at the game, i make no claim otherwise. but it's fun regardless.
i spend 4 whole days fighting Malenia and i've beaten her on my own (took me 2 days to beat Isshin, and like 6 hours to beat Owl father)
i regret nothing, and i feel happy about it
when DLC comes out i will beat her again, but this time i will do it on a different build and it will be easier.
im not saying you have to beat her on your own, some people, just like you, decide that it's not worth it to waste hours and hours on one of many bosses in a single videogame, but to me personally, i like to beat them all on my own, it just feels so fucking good
there's not many games like this, and even if there are, they are often much much easier and beating them isn't as hard and satisfying, so when playing DS or ER i take my time and try to do it myself. not to brag about it on the internet, but to my own satisfaction.
im super stubborn like this especially on my first playthroughs, because there's only one chance in life for you to beat a boss on your own on your first playthrough. once you did it, next time you can summon or do whatever, that's my ideology.
sorry for a blogpost
oh i hear ya, i was like that for the first part of the game. i explored quite a bit and went around trying to unlock as many sites of grace as I could, and doing as many dungeons as i could find (no spoilers/cheating). By the time i got to malekith i was kind of burnt out (level 145 or so, with 190ish hours total)
it's like a really good book or movie that just runs a bit too long.
maybe that's where the rot came from? we don't know canonically if vagisil or similar exists in the lands between. let's ring up GRRM and ask him
>with 190ish hours total
holy....
i thought my playthrough was long.... beating the game took me like 106 hours if i remember correctly and i'd afk some hours on alt tab lurking or doing other shit, and i count here being stuck on malenia for 4 days (obviously it wasnt full 4 days, just few hours of trying every day for 4 days)
>we don't know canonically if vagisil or similar exists in the lands between
>meaning sellen likely has a sweaty, unwashed minge
>the thought turns me on even more
fuck you anon, i was trying to be good today
Sellens body chained to the wall in that dungeon on the weeping peninsula you better believe im lifting up that robe, letting the cool air against her thighs and sweaty, gamey minge and then digging in. dump a batch inside and bail. THen transfer her soul to the new young body and help myself to it as a reward.
MOAR
orphan of kos shits all over malameia
It's the culmination of all of soulsbornekiro and the ultimate test of skill
Nah there were multiple fights in Bloodborne and DS3 that completely blow her out of the water.
lifesteal is a cheap gimmick, fight would be piss easy without it
Malenia is not even in the top 5 bossfights of her own game.
>but challenge...
Has nothing to do with how good it is. Malenia is good not great.
Would be good if it wasn't for waterfowl. Dunno why redditors like her so much.
The bullshit that will be in the DLC will far surpass anything Malenia can throw at you. Compared to the DLC Malenia will seem fair and tame.
Isshin and Owl (father) are
Malenia was good, but to be honest she doesn't belong in Elden Ring. she feels exactly like a Sekiro boss, but if she was in Sekiro they would make her even harder, and only then it would be the greatest boss in the last decade
There's no way any real human bean would have more fun with this garbage fight than Isshin.
That's not Morgott
All hail Morgott the Grace Given, True Lord of Leyndell and the Golden Omen, Last of all Kings.
I believe she was a cut Sekiro fight. Regardless she is absolutely unfun. She is the only actually hard hard boss in the game. That's cool in all, a complaint of Elden Ring is it's too easy. But man is she not fun. I've beaten her twice with the Rykard greatsword weapon art cheese and it felt good because she's not fun to fight.
I liked her better when she had a gun.
No, it was just some DLC boss. DLC bosses aren't technically qualified for "best bosses". Dark Souls 3 best boss is still the guy on the box. He's actually really awesome, and not Dark Eater Midir, the purple gay dinosaur. Though Midir was a good dragon boss, he is still a side boss along with Slave Knight Gael and Friede & her dad. All of which have their own annoyances. I like for the difficulty to be quite normalized like the formal, traditional, and very straight path that is the DS3 level path from Gundyr to Soul of Cinder.
This is ALSO why I didn't like Elden Ring that much. The elden beast at the end was more like a final DLC boss grouped up into 3 different bosses (The Horaloux guy, the Radagan guy, and then Elden Beast).
Though Elden Ring is really good and it contains upgrades from Dark Souls 3, I would still only recommend people to play Dark Souls 3 first and then try Elden Ring if they are up to something that takes a lot longer to beat.
Soul of cinder was pretty damn easy. Literally hit traded his ass down in 1 try. That being said, I was using the ringed knight paired greatsword.
>I was using the most damaging weapon in the entire game
:p
And it from the DLC too
you can't just drop a pair of gigantic fire swords and expect me not to use them immediately
My point is that the game tells you it about an ordinary sword and shield knight. The other stuff exists for different flavors. You will find out why, if not, you will become hollow.
I played through until the last boss as a sword and shield knight. Propaned GS and Artorias GS.
Just finished soloing her with a melee build, no ashes, no bleed/frost or any other gimmicks.
I though if I actually took the time to learn her moveset, I'd maybe end up liking the fight.
I was wrong. My initial impressions were correct. It's the worst boss fight in the series by a wide margin and the only reason I can possibly see for defending it is wanton contrarianism.
The problems are too many to count, but waterfowl alone disqualifies this as a good boss due to the way it fucks up the pacing, forcing you to run in circles trying to bait it out until you can safely continue the fucking fight. Absolutely diabolical design.
>I though if I actually took the time to learn her moveset, I'd maybe end up liking the fight.
I followed this guide with the Dismounter and bull goat armor melee build. Beat her in only a few attempts. His guide is really helpful and I recommend following it to anyone.
With that said, once you learn how to use the dismounter, you can learn to use more straight sword-ed weapons which imo seems harder, the dismounter is just really fast against malenia and long ranged.
Learn to fucking play, you can avoid waterfowl perfectly on reaction even when it starts on your recovery
>playing with no lock-on
you didnt beat it chud
That's intuitive. Who doesn't love studying these bosses like a nerd fag to learn how to dodge 1 move?
I do
>damage types are gimmicks
Why do you play so autistically? Congrats on beating your dick with a hammer bro
>waterfowl alone disqualifies this as a good boss due to the way it fucks up the pacing
use a shield you fucking braindead retard
Unless you're endurancemaxxing you can't light roll with a shield and drip, just learn waterfowl dodge. Light roll makes everything except waterfowl pretty much trivial.
I prefer not to look up things online, so my obvious reaction to the attack was to put on a shield with barricade on. It looks very cool when you you pull it out and block the whole thing too.
peak game design
She breaks the game's rules, but I enjoy fighting her and she beat my love for her into me with her big metal stick.
Malenia is just so unfun to fight in NG+ even with a ton of armor on and vigor she can just delete your entire health bar in two hits and waterfowl is just a bitch to deal with. I'm just gonna change my build to cheese her with magic or something, this shit is just not fun.
maybe if she actually was in the game she was made for otherwise nah it's turbo shit
Yes. Kino understated aesthetic, extremely fun to learn, unapologetically brutal, absolutely sickening unique mechanic. Legendary cope generating machine.
t. no hit her twice and loved every moment of it
the lore in this game is just utterly incomprehensible.
we're talking nonsense that makes a kojima plotline seem sane.
what in the fuck is even happening? my dude is just going around slaughtering everything that moves, but i have no idea why.
tarnished?
ring?
shattering?
is ranni a real girl? a doll? did they change her name halfway through the writing 'process'? i legitimately have no idea.
what the fuck GRR, you fat POS hack.
>type like a 14yo
>call another writer a hack
peak pseud. imagine unironically getting filtered by the lore
oh the irony 🙂
the only two bosses I loved in elden ring were radahn and placidusax
Radahn needed at least 4x times more life so people use the summons, wich is his best gimmic.
>lifesteal
>oneshot grab
>long combos
>anime spiral-move
Yeah i will summon Tiche.
that's not radahn, godfrey or morgott
Isshin is still the best From boss.
Godfrey is better but yeah
I like to watch him solo her
No
Radagon is better
She's not even the best in her own game.
Quick question, as a unga 2hander no magic, what should I use for armor, up to medium or light load ?
For now I've been doing medium load but the dodge roll is starting to feel incredibly slow.
I use whatever looks best
depends on the boss
I like to combine heavy with ultra-light magic-tier armour. The latter is lighter than heavy armour and has the benefit of added magic protection. Usually works with me, mix them up and I'm sure you'll find something that works for you too, anon
heaviest you can get before fatrolling for general use
lighter sets when you want to stack a specific elemental resistance
Doesn't look like Vergil
>OP throws the bait
>Fools throw copeposts explaining how they were filtered by Malenia's """unfair""" design
Devilish, but based
What would canonically happen if someone went down on Malenia's crusty minge?
She lost her minge to the rot. She feels no pleasure anymore
When it comes to game reviews are critics opinion better than general audience or should it be reversed?
What would have made it better if From went with the original story for her, where she's actually Millicent but has amnesia and by the time you both reach the Haligtree, her memory returns and she must stop you from becoming Elden Lord because Miquella and his perfect world etc would have been quite the twist but still love Millicent with all my heart.
Think it would've made Malenia a more divisive and complex character besides the two existing camps of HER WARCRIMES and THAT ROTPUSSY
its been a while, but there is like 2 final bosses in sekiro that were amazing.
>her lifedrain takes effect even if you block her with a 100% physical resist shield
This just felt blatantly unfair. Why make the ability seem like it works one way just to make it even harder for no reason?
Its the same kind of gotcha bullshit like having a boss do a combo attack, have a big opening, then when you go to punish he pulls out a one frame kick / grab attack
Its everything wrong with Fromsoft’s bosses post Bloodborne
shieldfags in shambles
Bosses that encourage roll spamming are dogshit, sorry man
It really did hurt. I made my whole way through the game with Great shield and Spears. Yes it was easy mode but it was fun. Really I still could have done it but the Bolt of Gransax was just kind of awkward when it came to punishing and she liked to dodge the thrusts, though it's Ash of War was excellent for forcing her to drop Waterfowl from far away.
I just respecced and beat her with a Quality Claymore build.
I think it's fair if an optional boss made as a big challenge forces people to not cheese with shields
although you can cheese her in many other ways so fuck me
It's just that there are other ways of making a boss punishing towards over reliant shield users. They already existed in game. Anyone using magic from a distance is taking away a lot of the advantages a greatshield has. If you want a pure melee character to have an advantage they could have introduced moves that automatically broke a shield guard regardless of Stamina, as opposed to moves that just do more stamina damage. Her kick would have been an excellent candidate.
The health regen feels more like a bandaid they slapped on after a play tester with Barricade destroyed her.
If an entire playstyle is inherently considered cheese (and not just the abuse of one item within that playstyle) then From should probably rethink the mechanics of that style. It's clear that From struggle with designing a block mechanic that's engaging and interesting, especially given if that they just removed it in BB. If only they could develop a system that made blocking a bit more active without being as busted as the parry and critical system. If only...
>This just felt blatantly unfair.
As I explained earlier, it's DLC so it sucks and will never be the best boss in the game, and Dark Souls 3 is better. The game is forcing you to learn a special strategy BECAUSE it is DLC.
It isn't DLC, it's optional. Elden Ring has no DLC, only an upcoming expansion.
It's in the base game, retard
Nah. She doesn't punish you for playing the game in a boring fashion. You can just spend hours avoiding every single one of her attacks for free and you aren't punished for taking too long. If you want to say a boss fight is good because it's hard, you have to make it actually hard, and any boss without any pressure to deal damage to is more about playing correct rather than playing well.
t. soulsfag since 2010
You can ring me up when there's a Souls game fight where you have to stop an NPC from dying as well as keep doing damage because you will instantly die if you play too much like a limp dick bitch.
Such a fight already exists, but I don't think you're ready for where it's from.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mIqaxPeCKM
>fight where you have to stop an NPC from dying
That sounds fucking awful. Why would you want that?
What, are you too busy sucking Amygdala's dick to hit him in the head? Too busy hitting the belly of a Rathalos to go for a tail cut? I thought you were good at video games, you can't get a tail cut to gimp a boss' move set and minimize its damage output?
>Are you too busy playing the actual game to babysit some braindead NPC
Yes.
In the fight I'm talking about, the NPC is there for a grand total of one attack, and it was on you, throughout the entire fight, to prepare yourself and to gimp the boss as hard as possible so much that it physically cannot do enough damage to kill him before you kill that phase of the boss.
Imagine thinking that simply dodging a boss' attacks is being good at the game. Imagine thinking how fast you shit out damage and your ability to aim attacks against certain body parts shouldn't matter in an action game, but thinking the simple status of not personally taking damage is anything beyond base line competency at the game unless you're pulling some Happy Hob no-hit run shit.
this is somehow more cringe than those "you didn't beat the game" autists
Malenia has no virtues as a boss fight other than being challenging, so I can't imagine from what fucking realm of reasoning you're on where you think Malenia is a good fight but you're not some difficulty wanking sperg. Radahn's a better fight from every regard, from build-up to spectacle to even sound track.
You don't have a real opinion, you just want to call me a gay. Just call me one, gay.
I'll give you one, she's sexy and I want to feast on her rotting cunt like Thanksgiving dinner. Anyways, you were bragging about how you were good at games or something, gay?
It's easy to pretend to be good at video games a year after the release and the game has been dissected. However going forward I want fromsoftware to be better.
I'm sure you have a lot of experience with that, champ.
Agreed but frankly I have a taste for chained up sorceresses in dungeons but that's besides the point. No, I think Souls games went the wrong way with how they should be difficult. There's no good ways to fight bosses, only correct ways. The difference from a good player beating Malenia and a mediocre one beating Malenia is not different enough for me to find the simple act of fighting her fun. There's no growth, or at least, no way to flex it. Monster Hunter has a nice way of dividing "competent" and "good" in the act of beating an enemy.
To point out a specific example, she's not vulnerable to stagger while she's in the air before performing Waterfowl. She even resets her posture, becoming outright immune to stagger during the move, simply so that she may continue to finish the move. This makes the audacious move of trying to punish it just a stupid one, not a bold one. And that's why I don't really like people trying to say a fight is good because it's hard; to what end? There's harder fights with bigger spectacle and more drilling patterns into your head than Malenia. She's just said to be a good boss because she's hard yet beatable while in a popular game. She wasn't fun, ever. You can't fight her *well.* Only *correctly.*
>ou can't fight her *well.* Only *correctly.*
get ready to get your mind blown then https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Evp0eUjx0
There's plenty of "correct" options including stunlocking her with broken WAs, night comet cheese, etc. The main flaws she has are inconsistent poise breaks (fixed by just giving her more poise and allowing poise breaks through hyper armor) and waterfowl being too hard to dodge. Lifesteal is fine, if you're getting hit enough for it to matter you're probably going to run out of estus and die anyways. She's would be a good boss if not for these two mechanics that ruin the fight.
nice escort mission gay
How about you stop my jizz from dying inside your mom's asshole, gay
That's not Morgott.
Not at all, beat her after some tries, and then on NG+ I used a mimic tear for DP.
literally the worst main boss in the game by a landslide you fucking gay OP i hope you get hit by a truck for your stupid fucking smug confidence in your abhorrent opinion
An ok boss ruined by lifesteal mechanic.
For me it's Isshin
Divine dragon was better
It wasn't a particularly great fight tbh, gameplay wise
I used corpse piler to win the fight pretty easily
fucking tough but not retarded, if you use a shield
I remember getting pissed off and just parried her to death. The only thing cool about this boss was me thinking that she was unparryable when I tried, but that's not even an actual mechanic. That jap cunt is a hack.
