      That's not how it works. Xenogears as an IP is fully owned by Square, but the dev team that made it became Monolith Soft which would later be owned by Nintendo.

    Because remakes exist to milk you out of your money. Stop thinking that they exist to give games a second chance or fix issues. That's naive.

    The original leads are no longer at square enix and the backlash of a fricked up remake for xenogears would be much higher than anything square has done so they leave it alone. Sqaure remaking xenogears would lead to a 99% chance of a frick up. Look at how they treated their crown gem, FF7, with all the compilation shit and the awful "remake", imagine how much worse xenogears would be. They should just port it or at best do a translation + speed up the text

      not remotely true, xenoblade 2 has more repurposed plot elements from gears and that isn't close to being a "remake" either

      Let’s be honest, so were Xenoblade 1&2.

      Takahashi’s been redoing the Perfect Works for years by now.

      Xenoblade 3 could be much better tho.

      • 1 year ago
        Anonymous

        xenoblade 1 really didn't have much from gears, there's a general theme of gnosticism but that isn't exclusive to xeno (SMT has it as well), blade 2 especially and to a lesser extent 3 are the ones that repurpose stuff from gears (blade 3 also has some stuff from saga)

        >Xenoblade 3 could be much better tho.
        XC3 is missing a lot of world/universe lore concepts but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt until the expansion

          Xenoblade 1 is much closer to Xenogears endgame than 2 or 3.

          Telethia is pretty much a copy of Xenogears angels/aeons and the whole humanity born from machine that are later copied in XC2/XC3 first happened in XC1 (and Xenogears before that)

      Xenoblade 3 is actually "what if Shion joined Kevin?" in Xenosaga 3. Both are even about eternal recurrence for frick's sake.
      Moebius = Testaments
      N = Kevin
      M = Shion
      Z = Wilhelm

      • 1 year ago

        all 3 xenoblade games have eternal recurrence be a part of their plot. Zanza's recycling, xenoblade 2's blade/titan/human life cycle, and obviously xenoblade 3's aionios. And yes Moebeius/Z are a testament/wilhelm repurpose

        • 1 year ago
          Anonymous

          >xenoblade 2's blade/titan/human life cycle
          Not eternal recurrence, just an evolutionary cycle. Complexity increases, so it isn't eternal recurrence.

          • 1 year ago

            I think the point was that if the titans were to die which would kill off the humans, the blades would eventually become titans again and diverge to humans

      The true Xenogears remake is Xenoblade X
      >but muh story!
      Takahashi has said on record that his principle goal for Xenogears was to create a virtual world where humans and drivable mechs co-exist. Not just in terms of story but in terms of gameplay. In Xenogears you have access to an entire world (world map and different areas, unlike other mech games of the time that still used a "stage" formula) and you can walk around in the world as either a human or in your gear; there's no separate screen or segregation between playing as a human or in your mech, the game handles you going in and out of your mech and exploring the same screen. It's done in a rather middling way considering the technology available at the time, but it works.
      There were mechs in Xenosaga but they exist entirely separately from your humanoid characters. And there are no drivable mechs in the numbered Xenoblade games.
      Xenoblade X accomplish the original goal of Xenogears of creating a fully explorable virtual world where human characters and drivable mechs co-exist.

    The point of a remake is to get easy money by exploiting nostalgia of older gamers and younger generations' refusal to figure out how to emulate. You do this with universally beloved, highly successful games, not shit games that could have been good in another timeline.

      That makes sense in theory but the Final Fantasy 1-6 games only get shitty ports with worse sprites than the original, while the less popular Trials of Mana got a full 3D remake with completely redone gameplay and Live A Live gets a 2D-HD remake.

              Jobs don’t get weaker when you change them, unlike IIIremake, the game doesn’t have an awful endgame like Crystal Tower like OG/Remake.
              And FFX-2 exists.

              It just can’t be the worst, then.

      The gameplay is nothing special but a lot of npc dialogue and even some environmental story telling adds to the story. The only thing I'd recommend is a text speed up mod on emulation

    They only remake games that they know is gonna produce a return investment. Not the games that actually need it.
    They know dead space sold tons of copies, so just do it again for easy munny.
