koombrain
why do morons play shit games endlessly and beg for more?
achievementgays are literally the same tier as gachagays and skingays
>he doesn't understand the targetting of a goal and setting out to complete it
Cringe, bro
>I NEED TO BE TOLD WHAT TO DO
>TELL ME WHAT TO DO DADDY
>PLEASE
Pathetic.
>he doesn't understand the duty in following instructions and would rather dawdle around like a toddler
Everyone goes through their communist phrase, I get it anon
Realizing and then following your own goals has got nothing to do with communism, moron
>I'd never go for on my own or think of
Must suck to be an uncreative brainlet, then.
If you're playing a game to just follow linear steps, a picture book would be much cheaper to elicit the same level of critical thinking. Maybe try those?
>a picture book would be much cheaper to elicit the same level of critical thinking
what the frick does this even mean, or have to do with completing a goal lol
You're following steps someone else laid out for you with zero intent on deviation. I'd say this deviation is kind of what sets computer games apart as a medium is this intention for deviation specifically, it's what makes it a mechanically different activity from reading, watching, listening, etc. If a designer is just giving you a series of steps to strictly adhere to, it might as well be a picture book, or like a real book if the game is graphically abstract enough to engage your imagination to fill in the gaps.
I true computer gaming equivalent to cheevohz would be goals the player sets for themselves, which we've been able to do for decades, no bleeps or bloops or social comparison cancer required.
It's pretty cool to be given a goal I'd never go for on my own or think of and work at it.
>game has a quest to collect 100 bear asses
>no thanks
>game has an Achievement™ for collecting 100 bear asses
>I will now grind your game
achievements are just a means to encourage morons to do pointless busywork by rewarding them with a meaningless squirt of dopamine at the end
Nah more like low scorer on spelunky. I'd never think to beat it without collecting gold. It was fun to get and added replay value. Collecting and grinding achievements are dumb
Are you moronic or just being purposely obtuse? Cheevos already have usually creative and challenging list, there is a community around hunting them, they serve as a comparison tool to other players, they serve as a record/log of games you played and when and how much you completed, they give completion statistics for games and rarity metrics for difficult achievements, and at least for Xbox, PS4/PS5, and certain Steam lists they can't be cheated without having obviously cheated timestamps.
It's insane how just because Nintendo is so fricking lazy that they STILL REFUSE to add achievements, that their rabid fanbase will instead sit here and shit on achievements just to defend Nintendo being lazy pieces of shit.
>This is the brain of a zoomer who grew up on cheevos
Whew, scary...
>Cheevos already have usually creative and challenging list
>complete mission 1
>complete mission 2
>...
>complete game on easy
>complete game on medium
>...
how creative!
Maybe, just maybe, he's talking about games that have more than those and that going after specific achievements aren't those very easy one.
>Maybe, just maybe,
you have to go back
Oh yeah! I remember the Orange box.
Other note worthy games are, uhm...
homie, 99% of games are "beat the game" "beat on hard" and " collect everything"
WOW THESE ACHIEVEMENTS ARE UNCREATIVE
I HATE VIDEOGAMES NOW
>child thinks achievements literally ARE video games
brain rot
games already tell you what to do at all times, they all give implicit and explicit goals for every single second of gameplay. What's the difference between an in game character saying "we need to defeat the demon overlord" and an achievement saying "complete chapter 12'
Because "complete chapter 12" is a hidden cheevo, homosexual. Has been for over 10 yrs now, every games story cheevs are hidden ones.
>beat the first boss in SotC
>*ding* Cheevo™ unlocked
>The Harder They Fall...
wow this makes the game so much better. now I know it's an achievement because the game told me so
>now I know it's an achievement because the game told me so
I'm pretty sure this is true for a lot of people
The real funny part is how dev's clearly don't give a shit about the achievements they set. The fact that you can be permanently locked out of achievements in games is always hilarious to hear about or bugged achievements with 0 updates or fixes and then you have morons still spouting "BUT YOU AREN'T PLAYING THE GAME". The real players are the dev's playing YOU.
mine is usually to beat the game
>he ties his lifelong goals and dreams to surrogate activities that will not improve anything for anyone
That's pretty fricking bleak and horrible.
I make my own goals Black person.

Ok troonya player
You are on one of the most anime-soaked boards on the internet. Hell, Ganker is based on 2chan, which is Japabese weeb central. You will never be able to peddle the idea that anime is a "cringe" thing here.
Stupid homosexual.
You will never be a woman
Go the frick back, newbie.
Same, I also like it when the game tracks them for me in forms of achievements.
This.
For example there are no achievements for kill everything on the map in Hitman and yet people still do that for fun.
My goal when picking up a game is usually having "fun", and beat the game if possible
>and beat the game if possible
There we go.
Cheevo hunting isn't about accomplishment, it's about having something you can point at and feel superior about.
It hasn't been a thing to say MY DICK IS THIS BIG since 2010...
Do zooms even KNOW what cheevs are? I think they turn those off.
When I try to beat a game using only one weapon or a really silly build I don't do it because a coded achievement is there, I do it for fun
>t. dopafiend
Anon, achievement hunting, elo climbing and speedrunning are the hallmarks of an embarrassing man that has nothing else in his life
But even worse than all that is projecting on Ganker
>spend my day doing nothing
>embarrassing man that has nothing else in his life
>spend my day hunting achievements
>embarrassing man that has nothing else in his life
SEND HELP
I used to try to 100% save files before achievements existed and I kinda like achievements but playing through a shitty game just to check off a completion is moronic. If I 100% a game nowadays, it's because the game is fun
epeen contest
>Can literally cheat all the achievements to completion
lol
lmao
not a cheevo hunter but it's pretty cool to compare with friends, see how far they are in the game and with multiplayer games what missions they haven't done yet
>so why grind and play unfulfilling games to get them?
I don't know why anyone plays unfulfilling games for achievements, but I understand it if it's a game you really like and you want to go for full mastery.
I don't "hunt" achievements unless they're fun or easy to get
When the game's like "you just killed your 100th enemy, I'm like, oh, nice, thanks for the dopamine hit, game, but that's it
If I like the game, I use achievements as challenges for more content because I enjoy the gameplay, same reason I 100% games, but if it's tedious or time-consuming, I don't bother
BTW when I say 100%, I mean just in-game shit, like all secrets, levels, enemies killed, etc, not achievements
It would be nice if more games have achievements just for doing fun stuff in the levels instead of the usual laundry list. Sonic Mania is a good example.
this, I like unorthodox achievements because they're a little like extra content if I really enjoy a game
How the frick is it " extra content?" The option to cross a bridge with a fire shield would still be there even if there wasn't an achievement for it.
they fail to realize that they're being tricked into doing things they'd never do normally
it's just challenges or stuff I wouldn't have thought to do on my own playthrough. I don't care about the achievement tracker but the idea itself, I still do fun stuff or try things if there's no achiev since fun and discovery is its own incentive
Fun achievements that get players to engage with mechanics they may never know about otherwise are great
Straight up stupid shit that just wastes time and only exists to make wacky achievements like "moonwalk into a wall for three minutes in this one tiny building" or "do nothing for 7 minutes" can go to hell.
>do not play the game for 5 years
this.
Doing a knife only run in REmake was fun as hell.
No achievement for doing invisible enemy mode but multiple ones for hoarding items for no fricking reason. Can't believe they made my favorite game unfun.
>Can't believe they made my favorite game unfun.
How? Just don't fricking do the achievements, dumbass.
I like them because it makes me try or do things I probably wouldn't ordinarily do. Thst said the only ones remotely worth doing are Xbox/Microsoft because number go up helps out the psyche. Nobody cares about trophies besides gold/platinum and Steam's are pointless.
if you buy a game, theres nothing wrong with doing everything possible in the game to get your moneys worth and feel accomplished with the 100%
however its mentally ill to buy those spam games that are just selling platinum trophies
Dopamine. It's fun and if you don't enjoy or understand, why would you complain? Remember that you are a part of a hobby that's heavilly overviewed and people actually don't understand why you play games.
>why would you complain?
Because, as can be seen over the last 20 years, the gaming industry will further change to cater to you godless drug addicts because it's easier to plant 100 flags in an AssCreed map than to design 10 actual interesting locations in said map.
>epic
Stopped reading.
>I need to prove i got to level 10 in bingbong simulator 23

there is one but no one gets credit for climbing it in current year due to the absolute state of everest
>sherpas carry all your shit
>wait in line like it's a fricking amusement park
https://laughingsquid.com/waiting-in-lines-to-reach-mount-everest/
reminds me of the reddit quest queues in Classic WoW, what a joke
you get a sense of achievement in games regardless of whether or not you get a pop-up, ding sound and a stupid achievement name like 'The Bigger They Are...' when killing a giant boss
anyone that needs an achievement system to feel like they're accomplishing something is an actual insect or robot
queuing is a better system than all ganging up on the spot like monkeys because it's less of a gamble, you might get the tag early or not at all so it's a middle ground
enlightened gamers simply left the starter zone to go grind since it's not like you need to do the quests to unlock later ones and you'll get more exp killing random scorps than waiting 45 mins in queue for a 300 turn-in
>anyone that needs an achievement system to feel like they're accomplishing something is an actual insect or robot
Ok, call me an insect or robot for now on then. I'm gonna still get those achievos.
How empty is your life that you get a sense of achievement from video games? You get a sense of achievement for making a coffee too? Brushing your teeth?
Get a job dude, or a creative hobby at least.
What are you achieving just putting people down on Ganker? I have a job and a family and while I'm not an achievement where, it's cool getting a rare skill based achievement. Gaming is something I enjoy so it's cool to see I'm competent it at least
Everest is a meme mountain, it's deadliness is overhyped.
>getting achievements in games is in the same category of fulfillment as climbing everest
not even in some different dimensional reality
What do you get for climbing the Everest?
a sense of achievement, rather than an artificial one found in a game
That's what I get when I play a game. A sense of achievement, rather than an artificial one found in a mountain.
You wouldn't know what a sense of achievement was and you never will. You're likely some fat unaccomplished homosexual.
The smug sense of satisfaction of leaving garbage and human shit that will be perfectly preserved forever in Nepal.
bro you 4269% embarassed yourself massively with that post better delete it before its too late
people who do all achievements for EVERY game are moronic but for me if I REALLY like a game I enjoy doing all the achievements if they aren't super moronic shit like find 900000000 invisible grains of sand so a good example is MGSV because the achievements were centered around getting gold in every mission so it was fun, I love the game it's my favorite metal gear and I also did it with fun mods installed like the BBW female soldier mod.
sigma grindset. you wouldn't understand, chinless incel cuck.

it's not that hard to understand, unless you're literally autistic.
t. 33 quasi virgin loner
Not him, but my wife has an awful tendency to pop in and bug me just as I beat a game and am watching the ending cinematics or whatever. I know she has no way of knowing, but it pisses me off to no end when she is asking for attention when I’m supposed to be basking in the glow of my minor accomplishment, trying like mad to absorb some dopamine into my ADHD-afflicted brain.
Lack of any other hobby that gives feelings of accomplishment and absolute attention whoring on social media.
In my case, its litrally autism.
>really immersed in a game having a great time
>achievement unlocked
>immediately taken out of it
played Signalis recently and the achievements unlocked when you exited the game, very considerate of the devs not to ruin the immersion
i need to make my e-peen bigger
feels like Ganker only hates achievements just because most people like them
It actually exposes shitters who never play games. Like half of Ganker
I love looking at achievement completion rates for story chapters personally so I'm glad they're a thing
>realizing massively popular game hasn't even been beaten by 20% of people years after release
it really opens the eyes
They're great for this, don't care about the autistic grind ones.
Only another 60 shitposts needed before you get the cheevo for it. Let's go anons!
lol, XBOX aint got no GAMES son , getchu a PSTripple
feels like using a strawman is a lot easier than making an argument
There are just a ton of drama queens on here who love to overthink this subject for some reason. Achievements aren't the cancer killing vidya and they're not absolutely required to enjoy them, they're just a convenient way to track your progress and a small incentive to play a little more. That's it. Playstation and Xbox even give you the option to disable the notifications if you don't like them.
I never liked achievements, even before using this website.
I hate achievements because they killed cheat codes
>Killed cheat codes
>No more unlockable content
>Seeing people buy shit like the Avatar game or Hannah Montana game for easy achievements
Yes I also hate oranges from spain killing my apple tree, wtf you morons?
Cheevos didn't kill cheat codes, you're thinking of DLCs
I'm fine with achievements. They can reward challenges, encourage outside of the box gameplay, fun runs, whatever. They have utility?
You know what I hate? Some homosexual that wanders into a forum and screams "ACHIEVEMENTS WHEN? WILL REFUND IF NO ACHIEVEMENTS!"
Some kids grew up with Doom.
Some kids grew up chasing AssCreed flags.
I have a friend that got 10,000 Gamer score in 1 year. Calculate what he had to do to get that.
Post hours played on your most played game.
I think it's okay if a game has ingame achievements like Kirby Air Ride had, you did a certain thing and unlocked new cool stuff.
But if a game has them just for the sake of it, it sucks.
If you get achievements for booting up the game, dying, picking up the first power up and shit like that it becomes super lame.
I think it can be fun to achievement hunt in games I like. It gives you an excuse to do alternative play styles and goals. CK2 and 3 are good examples. No one would play as like 90% of those countries without achievements tied to them.
You have hundreds of unplayed steam games and you're angrily lashing out at people who actually play, finish, and occasionally complete games
Stay in your lane
I like going for achievements/trophies because
1 it makes me way less likely to start a game, play three hours and then never touch it again and thus flushing money down the drain
2 it tickles the slight OCD part of my brain
Pretty much this.
Also all my friends play goyslop so when playing games by myself I feel as though I've got my money's worth if I get all the trophies. It stops me purchasing a new game every week and I feel a sense of accomplishment looking at all the 100% on my list. I appreciate where people are coming from in this thread, they are completely and utterly pointless, but unlike most of this board I have achieved things in real life so it's neither here nor there if I choose to do achievements when playing. To be honest I can't really imagine me playing games if I didn't have a list of tasks to complete within them. Who really cares either way, they're optional for a reason
If I really like a game I 100% it including achievements out of respect. Not much else to it.
I like the game, after all. Achievements are content. Why wouldn't I play all the content it has to offer?
Ganker casuals in the 80s be like what's the point of high scores?
High scores are a direct, local competition between players. Cheevos are participation rewards often given for either just playing, or going for obnoxious and grindy tasks.
it gives you something to do in a new playthrough.
Don't know how I played games before cheevos. Feels like such a waste of time to go back to stuff without them now.
never understood the achievement focused people but I don't understand the 'progression' people either. always weird to think about how some folks are just wired to enjoy things differently.
>'progression' people
What do you mean?
Some people will stop playing a game they like when they max out the battle pass or reach max level and get no rewards for the time they put in even if they like the gameplay. At least I think that's what anon means.
Well I don't refuse to play games where you can't lvl up / unlock things etc.
But unlocking extras is always a plus no?
Unlocking new costumes, items, abilities and bonus levels was always great in older titles, but the grinding in new games is a bit too much, often feels like a second job.
yeah there's nothing wrong with having it as a feature of a game (like achievements). there's just a subset of people where that's the main draw and the actual game is secondary. like you'll see people complain about not having a 'reason' to play a game, like the fun doesn't come from playing but rather unlocking stuff. for example this is a common complaint I've seen against sekiro- why should I play the game when my character doesn't get new equipment or levels? that type of player doesn't enjoy playing the game, they enjoy getting stuff, and playing the game is just a means to that end.
personally I don't give a shit, everyone enjoys things differently, it's just an alien mindset to me, like how some people really enjoy idle games or gacha.
I get that a lot more than cheevo people.
If you have nothing new to unlock, no new goals, no new inputs you can get other than "play game to play game" then you're essentially over with it. Just move on. Say you beat Super Mario. You finished all the levels, and so, finished it's progression. You're done homie, go play something else. What actually sounds autistic to me is to keep playing the same game forever where nothing new happens.
see I don't get this take at all. people will rewatch shows, movies, listen to the same song, read the same book, etc, multiple times because it's impossible to completely 'use up' a piece of media like that
but for some reason video games are just super special and unique? like you can't just enjoy a game for it's own sake?
Some people don't even listen to the same song twice. Crazy as it seems to me, I can believe it.
The difference is time dedication and interactivity. First one is self-explanatory, the second is a matter of action repetition. Listening to a song is five minutes of zero commitment. Replaying a video game is dozens of hours of 100% attention commitment. And on top of experience being the same every time, more importantly your input is the same every time. Interactivity is such an important part of what makes the game appealing, the feedback depending on your actions, that lack of diversity in player actions and games' reactions to them can lead to boredom. That said people do replay games, some fairly often. It simply depends on a person.
Listening to music can be a 100% commitment.
And playing a game can be a 10% commitment.
Nothing is 0%.
>And playing a game can be a 10% commitment.
Games that require 10% attention commitment are meant to be repetitive and simplistic. Most people put something in the background when they're grinding, be it single-player or multiplayer, the games or parts of the game that are meant to be work-like. And most people split their attention simply because it's too boring otherwise.
Yes I agree. I merely had to sperg because the 0% commitment idea of music offends me. But you are also correct that most are like this.
t. SPERG
people who won't play a game if there isn't some reward for it. like, they wouldn't like playing a mario game because there's no leveling up or battlepass or cosmetics or whatever.
Black person what
>why grind and play unfulfilling games to get them?
Implying
I only get Achievements and shit in games I enjoy playing. But yes, I'll try and go for all of them and screeee when stupid devs put permanent missables in games that are longer than 8 hours.
Cope subhumans. Steamies can suck my 19 yo account wiener
When I was a teenager I was really into cheevos. I was generally too shit at games to get everything but if I liked a game enough I would go for any achievement I could get, even if it was something stupid. And some of you may recall that Halo 3 had armor unlocks tied to achievement progress, so that got me even more into it. I actually remember getting kind of pissed that NUNS1 didn't have any trophies, but I think part of that might have been misdirected anger over the game being not nearly as good as the PS2 Ultimate Ninjas.
These days I don't really think about them at all except when they pop up and I'm like "oh okay" and then I immediately forget about them.
number go up
it's reptile brain shit
I usually just like to play games to beat them, but cheevos give you good goals in some of them -- when they're reasonable. Arcade games, for a great example, things in which you're playing for score or extra seconds of survival. Since I don't typical play score attack against people, it definitely adds to the game in those cases.
the only achievement I ever went out of my way for was Annual in Halo 3 back when you actually had to do it on a specific day, because it was an actual challenge instead of just some random easy shit
me and my homies spent like 10 hours on it because someone's internet would always frick us somehow but it was good times
>someone's internet would always frick us somehow
this is why I never did that vidmaster bullshit
I lived in hawaii at the time and my internet was always the weakest link
time warner can go stuff themselves
The last game I got all achievements for was Sekiro.
The skill point grinding killed my desire to 100% any other game.
I hope that you did it on NG+4 or 5 to spare your sanity
Last one I did was Dark Souls Remastered with a friend, we cooped the entire game on launch and traded items to both finish 100% it on NG+. Constant invasions, funny day one bugs, having a plan in mind for a change, it was really fun.
>if I dont like a game
Finish it, never touch it again
>if I like a game
Get all the cheevs
You win autism point irl
They don't enjoy playing videogames. They just want the validation of seeing a number go up.
based TimeSplitters 2 doing it better and earlier than most developers out there
optional challenge content that gave you tangible rewards in the way of new characters, and it's actually fricking fun and hand-tailored missions a lot of the time
But anon, that's how games used to work before achievements.
This image is older than most of Ganker. Allow that sink to enter.
Most achievement collections are shit anyways.
Adds new challenges to a game. Gives a game replayability.
I can see this. I just have so many great games to play that I can't devote all that time to each. With the endless profusion of and the occasional decent AAA, I'm spoiled for choice.
>profusion of indies
Yes.
I like it when devs know their game and present additional challenges in that form.
is that factorio? seems neat.
Yeah, it mostly has milestone achievements but this one and finish the game within 15/8 hours are fun to attempt blind.
I like fulfilling completionism. When I play a good game and I look at the cheevos and think "Hey, that looks like I'll enjoy getting them" - I go for them. I 100%ed FTL on normal and despite being highly pissed at some of the more asinine shit like Clash of the Titans I still like looking at the fully lit completion tab. I'm currently most of the way through 100%ing it on hard.
>You literally get nothing, zero, zilch, nadda, from getting them
Some games gave you in-game rewards for certain achievements like Dead Rising, like the mega buster
>You literally get nothing, zero, zilch, nadda, from getting them
Same applies for playing video games in general and yet you still play them. Curious.
It's a dopamine rush for completionists. You devise a nonsense system for them with no real content but give them buttons for "completing" a thing you'd either normally do anyway or is just stupid busywork that nobody would otherwise do.
This triggers their addictive personality traits and suddenly they want more of your amazing buttons, so they can feel good about having all your buttons.
Cheevos are exactly as stupid as they sound.
I agree that 9 times out of 10 achievements are dogshit and lazily implemented. Something like in FF8 where it wants you to perform 10k fights or some shit is lame and adds nothing. But the same game also has an achievement to beat the game without leveling. Dragon's Dogma is another good example with the Speedrun achievement. They should be challenges to complete, optional outside the game badges that don't cut you off from content, that's it. I can get disliking how achievements are done but disliking them outright is odd to me.
>They should be challenges to complete
This. Grind achievements are a waste of time, progression achievements are mostly for the devs to track players and are worthless, but those that focus on finding secrets, collecting rare stuff and various challenges are cool.
If people haven't seen a good achievement they are gonna think that all achievements are bad
>some shit is lame and adds nothing
That's literally all achievements.
Without achievements you have no proof you finished or even played the game and have no right to have opinions on it. Only people who talk about games they never played hate achievements.
Its Called Autism Anon. Autistic people love to see numbers go up and feel special. Thats why many grind for trophies and achievements.
I dunno but I've actually avoided games because of too many shit achievements that make me feel bad for ignoring.
I want to say I go for achievements if the game is really fun and I've already beaten it and I'm trying to get even more out of it but then I realized I don't even do that. A lot of achievements are stupid wastes of time, especially the collectibles in every level ones. I liked finding the bobble heads and snow globes in FO though.
People's natural OCD for completionism is triggered when they see achievements and gauges of daily/weekly tasks unfulfilled, it's the only reason why most people play MMOs or shit games like vampire survivors.
When I play a game, it makes me extra happy to earn achievements. I see the completion and know I am completing the game.
I am a huge achievement prostitute, and I still have no issue with games not having achievements. When OG Xbox games got added to the Xbone, I was happy I didn't have to go autisticly into those games to complete them. I can just beat them and go to the next game. I have 3 criteria for whether or not it's worth completely a game
>I really like it
>It's part of a long going series, and my OCD will kick in if I don't completely every game
>Just beating the game gets me like 90% of the trophies, so I might as well completely it
Even then, I tend to avoid Grindy and MP achievements.
Cause when i collect 3000 feathers in asome ubishit game It'd be nice having a cheevo for it. Not that I'd ever do that or play ubishit in the first place.
I like achievements if they're simple enough. I'm not gonna go out of my way for 'em, and my profile is always private, so it's not like I'm a prostitute.
Trying to 100% ff13 was a mistake and ruined my sanity. fricking Black personturtles will haunt my dreams.
>dopamine hit of bigger numbers than friends
>continue chasing the dragon until all vidya is about nothing but chasing cheevo scores
It's an addiction like any other.
Personally, I always preferred trophy chests or similar in-game awards to the sterile and homogenized ones. FreeSpace/2 had a great one, and FF12's Sky Pirate's Den was great, too.
get yourself and your friends into Neon White
it has a friends leaderboard where it displays your times, it feels amazing to beat your friends time and send them the proof
I don't get it either. They don't add anything to the game.
>but they add content!?
No, they don't. the content being "added" is already there, you just find the need for some arbitrary pop-up to tell you do do something and get "awarded" with a meaningless trophy pop-up to stroke your ego. They're legitimately pointless.
>set this memory location equal to a magic number by grinding for hundreds of hours for special good boy gamer points
I don’t enjoy video games any more. What happened to me?
I only go for 100% acheivements on games i love, its a way to milk as much playtime and content out of a game as possible, so i wouldnt do it with a game i didnt really enjoy. Think I have 37 platinum trophies so far, kind of run out of games worth grinding out now though. Hoping for a nice long roguelike to get into so i can grind that out, Hades 2 looks like itll be fun
desperately seeking some kind of sense of accomplishment, despite being a pathetic gamer
>You literally get nothing, zero, zilch, nadda, from getting them
this absolutely incorrect. if you unironically think so then you are underage
Name one (1) thing you have gotten from achievements.
dopamine
>Satisfaction? You don't need achievements for those
how is this an argument?
>How about you actually try to explain how he's actually wrong?
it's completely subjective
you get dopamine from popups?
you must've fricking loved popup ads back in the day then
you get dopamine for pretty much everything, including getting (You)s. i know this is a shitposting thread to waste everyone's time, but at least pretend being interested in the discussion....
>how is this an argument?
How is it not? Are you moronic?
>why do you drink anything but water? you don't need anything else to be hydrated
A food analogy? And a bad one at that. Congratulations.
You can do the thing the achievement is telling you to do even if the achievement wasn't there to begin with. Saying that you need achievements to give you some sense of satisfaction just gives off the impression that you have no imagination to just play around with a game and get said satisfaction by messing around with various elements.
Apparently you need to be led around by a carrot on a stick to have any sense of fun, and if it's not there you get mad.
>A food analogy? And a bad one at that. Congratulations.
water isn't food, and it's bad just like your previous "argument"
>You can do the thing the achievement is telling you to do even if the achievement wasn't there to begin with.
yes, and?
>Saying that you NEED achievements to give you some sense of satisfaction just gives off the impression that you have no imagination to just play around with a game and get said satisfaction by messing around with various elements.
nobody said this
>Apparently you NEED to be led around by a carrot on a stick to have any sense of fun
i don't know why you keep projecting
>water isn't food
>"water AND food"
bro, stop embarassing youself, this thread is already pathetic enough.
>any nutritious substance that people or animals eat or drink
>eat or drink
So you're also illiterate? Also water is officially defined as a food item and has been for years. I really don't know why you're trying to make an argument about this of all things.
>officially defined
meaningless buzzwords. enjoy eating water, dumb goyim
So this is the coping mechanism you're going to have with losing an argument?
you are the one appealing to authority, not me
>quora
lmao, is this really the hill you're going to die on?
what's wrong with quora?
It's no official source for anything, it's just people spouting their opinions, like the idiot that thinks food is define sby how many calorie sit gives you, as if there's some specific caloric number threshold that something needs to pass to be considered a "food item". By that logic berries wouldn't count as food becuase they're extremely low calorie, basically 0. And in the same thread I found answers of people saying yes, so does that change something now?
>And in the same thread I found answers of people saying yes, so does that change something now?
it doesn't. i've already said this before, stop using meaningless buzzwords
>definitions are buzzwords when they don't suit my argument
Classic.
definitions are arbitrary, since they come from different source and use ambiguous language.
if you wanna argue within the scope of the anglosphere, water isn't food because we have to different verbs for them. you can't eat water and you can't drink food. i'm pretty sure this is true in 99% of other languages
>you can't drink food
So soup isn't food.
you eat soup, dumb esl
it's not a fruit then
So you're entire argument is based on you ignoring part of the english language, and every language other than english.
why are you talking about yourself?
>When does being a fruit begin and end?
when it becomes a liquid substance?
bro, let it go...
>when it becomes a liquid substance?
It's still fruit, though.
>orange juice is a fruit
>you eat orange juice
anon please...
So why do you drink some liquids, but eat others?
Yeah? I took an orange and churned it into something drinkable. Drinkable food.
>when it becomes a liquid substance
So you don't actually need to ever eat anything.
>So you don't actually need to ever eat anything.
how did you come to this moronic conclusion?
If liquids don't count as eating. Just blend your food up and drink it.
Now you get all the nutrients, without ever eating anything.
Factually correct. To eat you need to chew at least a little bit. You can get nutrition from liquids though obviously.
>To eat you need to chew at least a little bit
And yet you eat soup.... It's almost as if languages wasn't designed to be scientifically correct.
if the soup has solids requiring you to chew then yes, if no, then you drink it. Not complicated. I swear, trying to stretch the definition of words everybody already knows precisely what they refer to has to be the midwit's greatest pastime.
>it's not a fruit then
But it's nothing but fruit grinded down into a drinkable substance. When does being a fruit begin and end?
This argument of yours doesn't have much weight to it.
>you don't drink food
What if I took a fruit and made a smoothie out of it?
not that guy but water is not nutritious, you need it but it doesn't give you any nutrition, making it not fall under that definition you keep posting, you are losing pretty bad at your autistic word definition lawyering
>but water is not nutritious
>nutrient: a substance or ingredient that promotes growth, provides energy, and maintains life
uhhhh?
how much life are you going to maintain drinking nothing but water forever? Is there a single living oragnism on earth that subsist on only water?
>how much life are you going to maintain drinking nothing but water forever?
You survive longer by drinking nothing but water in comparison to doing nothing but eating bread. the former is 2-3 weeks, the latter if 3-5 days.
>You survive longer by drinking nothing but water in comparison to doing nothing but eating bread. the former is 2-3 weeks, the latter if 3-5 days.
so water isn't food? good to know, thanks
>so water isn't food?
No, it is. I already prove dit too. I really don't know why this is triggering you so badly.
You are missing the point. Yes you need water to survive, I said that, there's no question about it, but you can't survive only on water therefore it isn't nutritious. Bread is nutritious but you won't survive on it only because you need water also.
>you can't survive only on water therefore it isn't nutritious
>You can't survive only on bread, therefore it's nutritious
Can you see why your point is kinda weak?
No, it isn't. Maybe you just don't understand. Water has no nutritional value. You will never gain weight, muscle or fat if you only take in water (in fact, you will die eventually). If you can't grasp this basic fact of life then there's nothing more I can say.
The fact that you need water to survive does not change the fact it carries no nutritional value. You need air to breathe, are you going to start saying air is nutritious too?
>You will never gain weight, muscle or fat if you only take in water
Same deal for bread. So bread isn't food nor is it nutritious.
Carbs are awful for you dummy.
I wouldn't say they're 'awful', but they aren't really soemthing you want to focus on consuming. You can cut them out completely and only benefit from it.
>Water has no nutritional value
There's more to nutritious than micro/macro nutrients, you fricking idiot. Water keeps your cells alive and is a key substance needed for bdily temperature regulation. Also water has trace minerals in them this do impact your health. So please explain how water isn't nutritious just because it doesn't have 500 calories and 5 grams of fiber in it.
if I ~~*need*~~ water why am I fine only drinking coke?
Gee, I wonder what 99.9% of coke consists off.
sugar and corn syrup
>sugar and corn syrup
It's cute how you managed to be wrong in 2 different ways.
keep drinking that water brother, if it were good for you it wouldn't be free!
>free
Clean water isn't free.
It is if you collect rain water.
Labour isn't free.
>he doesn't know the estrogens and microplastic are carried on even through the water cycle
lol ngmi
Being dehydrated makes all of the systems in your body work harder and less efficiently. If you have access to clean water then you should be drinking a lot of it every day to stay hydrated and clear out your bodily wastes.
I have no idea why the tuck you’d even try to argue against the health benefits of water. Might as well argue that breathing is actually counter-productive to the strength of your lungs.
making it easier on your body will eventually lead to its downfall through atrophy
ever heard of physical exercise? you need an elevated heart rate, not an easy efficient leisurely walk
but go on, keep calling walking to the bathroom a workout, brother!
I know this is bait but there are actually people out there who will take this shit you wrote seriously.
By that logic you’re doing yourself a disservice by attempting to see with eyes that aren’t blind and hear with ears that aren’t deaf. Your muscles only get stronger because their cells are specialized to increase in size in proportion to the amount of work that they are routinely forced to undertake. Your entire body isn’t a gigantic muscle; most parts of it are better off not being overworked for no good reason. It’s like arguing that drinking 30 beers a day is good for you liver because it’ll be constantly working overtime.
Walking is a pretty decent exercise, but you need to do it for a long enough period of time and you need to do it every day.
>If you have access to clean water
all the public water in the west has horrible amounts of nasty chemicals in them. If you can drink it straight out of a natural spring then I agree
I only drink bottled water. I’m wary of filtered tap water but I’m sure that it’s fine. You basically have 0 rational excuse for avoiding water in 2023.
>So the argument has been that nutrition = food
the original argument was that water was seen as food and someone said it isn't because it isn't nutritious, but it is. People don't udnerstand what a nutrient is, they think it's something like pure consumption of micro nutrients when that's not it, they only put their value of how nutritious something is or isn't by the nutritional info on the back of a package. Water may not have any macro nutrients but it's sitll nutritious because it fits the definition of what a nutrient is.
I never said oxygen was food, either. I even said that was something entirely different but you seemed to miss this. Learn how to read before talking to people, you would do yourself a really big favor with that.
for
Problem with bottled water is the plastic they use leeches in the water (aggravated a ton if the cases sit in hot temperatures which they often do) which increases your estrogen also. From what I've read, if you want to be a water purist you get a well and make sure all your plumbing is copper (but that doesn't solve the problem of the residual microplastics and estrogen that stays in the water even after it comes back down as rain - there is no realistic solution to this and shows that modernity has become terminal). If that's not feasible, second best is you get those watercoolers that have the big jugs on top. The plastic they use for those jugs is different from the one for normal water bottles, it's a lot thicker and leeches way less into the water.
>increase your estrogen
I’ve been drinking like 4-5 bottles a water of day for the past 13 years. Should I have grown a gigantic pair of breasts by now or something? Estrogen isn’t poison you gigantic moron, your body literally produces more estrogen every day than you can ever hope to drink from a lifetime of bottle water and “Microplastics” kek. Whatever form of it you happen to consume through water will most likely get destroyed in your stomach in any case.
Guys like you should really stay in school and take some pre-med classes. Your ignorance is going to cripple you.
>Should I have grown a gigantic pair of breasts by now or something?
never said that but you probably have low testosterone levels which obviously is not good for you, coping bottled water shill
>low testosterone
>from drinking bottled water
No, anon. If I have low testosterone levels it’s most likely from genetics, drug abuse, and a mostly sedentary, depressive lifestyle. Even then, having “low testosterone” is significantly less detrimental to your body as a whole than being chronically dehydrated, which will lead to a shit ton of very serious and very crippling pathologies that will make you life infinitely more miserable than not constantly being in a horny, aggressive state.
None of this even matters because there’s no fricking way in hell that you can possibly consume enough estrogen through bottled water for it to cause a significant hormonal imbalance. It’s positively insane to think so.
What is the key ingredient in coke, anon?
I knew some midwit was gonna bring up the fact that water has trace amounts of micro-nutriments. Try feeding a nation only on water, see how far that gets you. If you drink 20 gallons a day forever you will lose weight until the point where your body dies because it has withered away. So it's not food.
You could however feed a nation on wheat and beer (liquid wheat). It wouldn't give you a healthy population, but they would survive.
Is oxygen nutrition therefore food too then? Because you need it just as much as you need water.
>is oxigen nutritious
Per definition of the word, yes. but so is something like sunlight due to the vitamin d is helps out bodies get. But that's besides the point. Water is still considered food. And yes, it's nutritious.
So the argument has been that nutrition = food, now you're saying that oxygen = nutrition too, so now oxygen = nutrition = food. Hey Tony, what you up to? Just eating lunch man. But there's no plate or anything in front of you. Yeah man I'm breathing, oxygen's food.
Yeah okay, there really is no limit to how moronic relativists will make themselves look in their quest to stretch the definition of common words everyone understands. You remind me of a guy I knew who spent an hour trying to enlighten me how, actually, 2+2 did not equal 4 and that the sky is not blue.
So vitamin pills are food.
Well you can't survive only on food either, so by that logic it's also not nuttritious. I don't think you know what the word means. Water is nutritious by definition.
>Well you can't survive only on food either
Wrong, you can, if the food has a high water content. Also besides the point.
>but you can't survive only on water therefore it isn't nutritious
>Bread is nutritious but you won't survive on it only
??????????
I don't know, but that guy got BTFO so bad on his moronic water = food statement that he derailed the entire thread.
Water is food though?
May as well go all the way.
125%
How much life are you going to maintain without water? Is there a single living organism on earth that subsists without water?
Still doesn't make it nutritious. It's like saying oxygen is nutritious because you'll die without it.
>yes, and?
So then they're meaningless, which was the entire point of this argument. Good job with showing that you can't follow a conversation.
>So then they're meaningles
for you, yes. what's your point then?
>for you, yes
You also admitted to this in your own reply, but it seems like you didn't realize this. this really isn't surprising at this point.
i still don't get it. achievements mean nothing for you, so you decided to enter a thread about achievement to argue that they mean nothing for you?
>i still don't get it
Yeah, that doesn't fricking surprise me. This thread was made to shit on achievements and you seem to find it confusing as to why people are doing so in the thread.
>This thread was made to shit on achievements
oh ok, have fun shitting on things you don't like. i'm going to earn some achievements meanwhile
Why do people even hate food analogies? Seems logical to use something that everybody needs in one form or another for an analogy.
Not the other poster by the way, I've just never really understood this.
They factually always miss the point and give you an opening to point at the anon making it and call him fat.
Nobody actually hates the food analogies themself.
>why do people hate food analogies
It’s just a meme morons use to avoid further engagement with an argument. It’s basically the same thing as telling an anon who uses paragraphs that they’re gays for using “Reddit spacing”. It’s just morons doing what they do best.
gamerpics and avatar cosmetics
He's right, though. How about you actually try to explain how he's actually wrong? what do you get? Satisfaction? You don't need achievements for those
It's not complicated, I have nothing going on in my life and getting that 100% gives me satisfaction for about 10 seconds then I turn the game off and never play it again.
If getting achievements, of all things, is what makes you satisfied then that sounds like a personal issue.
>I have nothing going on in my life
>sounds like a personal issue.
wow how did you figure that one out?
throw the dog a cookie so that he knows he's doing good and will continue to do so
I know I'm fricked up when I would prefer to play DMC collection on PS4 rather than on the superior PS2 version with my CRT just because of the trophies.
They are numb on the inside and achievements on video games are the only way for them to feel alive.
>Somebody explain the mindset of a VIDEO GAMER
>You literally get nothing, zero, zilch, nadda, from playing them -- so why maintain an unfulfilling life for the sake of playing them?
I have maybe had three games where the achievement list was actually interesting. Due to forcing everyone to put them in, it turned the entire thing into complete shit from day 1. And instead of just making it equal to completing the gme, they cadd a vunchg of busyowrk into it and that make uijs it even rfucjigng orjtnmf
>put tedious bullshit achievement in game
>people complain that 100% is tedious
Just as keikaku.
i think its fun to platinum games you enjoy, as a little badge of honor to remember your time with it.
>EGS
Literally the console version of PC gaming
Is there any reason I should care about achievements?
How are they any different than the "Top 10" players or something like in arcade games? You're doing it to show off.
Achievements were only fun on the 360
1.They're fun
2. They're a nice way to reminisce old games you've played
3. I like them
If you hate achievements its because you're a casual that never completes anything, and are self conscious about it. Everybody else just doesn't care.
aka "I dont have any real argument against achievements so i'm gonna post a strawman replying to nobody specifically"
If achievements have done anything, it's shown me that people have 0 attention spans.
>play RDR2
>get an achievement for beating the first chapter
>only 70% of players have unlocked this achievement
>by the end of the epilogue it's less than 20%
This is the only useful thing that achievements do. The stats show that most gaming consumers simply do not actually enjoy the games they play.
they may enjoy the game, but not care about progressing the story. think about something like Skyrim. how many people just wander around and enjoyed themselves without following the yellow brick road of story progression?
That works for a game like Skyrim, but the post I replied to was about RDR2, which has a similar open world appeal, but Skyrim never had story discussion like RDR2 has still today. That indicates story is a broad appeal for the game, and if that's true, then why did almost no one actually finish it?
I like them because they 1) give me an idea of how much of the game’s content I’ve explored and 2) provide official, documented proof that I’m better and more knowledgeable than you at the game.
I don’t need achievements to enjoy a game but I like having them. Simple as.
They're "proof" you actually beat the game/did some honorable achievement. In steam you can show off you 100% games, that's about it.
Because I need to be told when I 100% the game homosexual
I'm curious, are those people numerous enough that NOT putting achievements in your game actively hurts your sales?
I've never seen an article or stat showing that, however we can see that achievement-oriented things (cheap dopamine shit) have been increasingly implemented in games by and large over the last 20 years. They don't put that shit in games for just no reason, and I've never heard an actual game designer, like Warren Spector or John Romero, say that yeah I think a player making numbers go up constantly is the best kind of game I can make.
Odds are achievements were explicitly created for the cynical purpose of player retention in an increasingly costly vidya industry.
>I think a player making numbers go up constantly is the best kind of game I can make.
isn't that all rpgs forever?
That's been an element, but well-liked RPGs had an end. And some were RPGs simply because they couldn't program actual game mechanics like shooting in System Shock 2, from Ken Levine himself. The impact that those XP systems have had are the slew of live service games over the last few years that are made from the ground up to drip feed content to players indefinitely until it's no longer profitable, and the easiest content to churn out without depending on creativity (which is finite) are systems the player feeds into that are ultimately in the service of making numbers go up, which can be reiterated infinitely.
How many of you find those games satisfying?
Achievements are moronic, except for joke achievements
Cheevos are only good when there's like ten absurdly dumb or difficult things to do, sort of as a guideline for self-imposed challenges
If it's just boring shit like grinding or collecting everything then frick that
I make text games with lots of choice & consequence and waifus. One of the waifus can cheat on you if you have low Social and do a specific thing she dislikes.
I thought it would be funny to add an achievement for this, so I did it.
Every now and then I get infuriated messages from people saying they hate that they have to becomd cuckolds to get all achievements.
>Cruelty Squad
>shamelessly tongue-in-cheek themes about mindless consumers living in a capitalist dystopia
>doesn’t even have achievements
Majorly missed opportunity.
>still has empty s-ranks based on speedrunning that do nothing
I like to do it on games I enjoy. I also have no life.
What do you get in life by constantly posting here? Or playing video games in general? Or a million other things in life? Who gives a flying frick how people spend their time. All of your have a nice day, your parents are praying for it every day after all. This board sucks
back to bed hakoom
It's good to have goals. Even if they seem insignificant to others.
They hate achievement chads because the days of telling people you "beat" a game are over now anyone can look at your achievement list and see you have a sub 30% completion rate and you "beat" the story on easy and move on.
>achievement hunting le bad
>sports ball trophy hunting le good
I've always enjoyed 100%ing games even before achievements existed. Achievements just made it easier to quantify what 100% is for a lot of games.
This. I still remember my FFX save file on PS2 was like 200 hours long because I refused to finish the game unless everyone had perfect stats and skills.
Exactly this. Its just really fun and satisfying mastering the game and doing literally everything possible. But the fact that I didn't have a ton of games growing up definitely contributed to me doing it. I only got games on Christmas and Birthdays so I needed to wring every piece of entertainment out of a game. I still go out of my way to 100% some games even though there's no reward for it but I'm much more selective about it.
This is mostly how I view it, the only bad part is that the 100% achievement gives you a framework of "if I complete all the achievements, I've done 100% of the stuff in the game" when that isn't always true. A lot of games have stuff that you don't get achievements for. If I compare for Elden Ring for example, I had 100 hours and hadn't beaten the game, my friend had 50hours and yet had 100% achievement completion. You don't have to do the majority of the side content in that game to get the 100%.
But anon if you dont get al the achivements how you going to know you already finish all the game?
Control is a good platinum. Do all the side stories, do the post-game, collect all the things that power you up and your essentially at platnium
I just make my own achievements when playing games. I cannot stress enough how happy I am that I don't have that 100% autism desire in my brain. Feels like it would make every game a tedious checklist rather than playing for fun.
It does make them that. When I'm playing a game and realize I'm doing just that, a checklist, instead of enjoying myself ,I uninstall
happens a lot in those single player MMOs
For some games, i understand it, civ 5's "beat the game with X" achievements mean i do more than just play Korea every time, and weird challenge achivements for more linear games that get you to play in a totally different way are always fun, but for normal linear games, i have no idea.
Gives me something to do besides just beating the game and uninstalling it. For example, M&B Warband had achievements for certain character builds so I'd do shit I wasn't used to like raiding villages as a mounted archer.
achievements are a great way to rope in morons who cannot self-direct because you want their money too
had this conversation with a female at one point--she got excited because she tried a game and unlocked an achievement. she asked what she got for it
>you get points
what do you do with the points?
>nothing
you don't even get like a discount on other games?
>nope
in-game item?
>nope
what's the point?
>there isn't one
>play unfulfilling games
I'm not though. I only achievement hunt in games I have fun in.
Somewhere in the late 2000's the gaming hobby merged with a subgroup of gamblers and degenerates. These are the kinds of people who grind battlepasses for games they hate, dump hundreds of dollars into skins, and obsess over achievements. Good gameplay does not exist to them beyond simple and addicting dopamine spikes to reward their repetitive degenerate behavior. If gaming didn't exist they'd be at the casino or horse races getting drunk and passing out in the bleachers.
>Somewhere in the late 2000's
So not only are you a moronic conspiracy nutjob. You are also a dumbass zoomer who doesn't understand time.
Worse, the games industry has turned young people the world over into degenerate gamblers, to the point they mock any attempt to get them away from the poison. The poison is all they know and that's what computer games are to them.
Seeing the plat pop and S next to my game on PSNProfiles is incredibly satisfying
Explain to me why achievements always get so much shit while chasing S-Ranks and 100% percentages don't.
I don't really care about S-ranks either. It's nice if it happens, buy I won't dedicate time to it. I generally like the model (or of one) in western shooters like Doom, Max Payne, or FEAR, where it's usually intended for you to get fricked up to a certain degree. It means you don't have to sweat over minor things that genuinely don't have consequences in gameplay.
>(or lack of one)
You know a game is really fun if you 100% but still play more of it.

I have at times downloaded 100% saves just so I can have all the gameplay tools from the start. If you're just minmaxing for XP, then you can be encouraged to play in extremely asinine ways, like the new Deus Ex games.
A truly fun video game STARTS once you've unlocked everything.
Only people who have no talents other hobbies are interested in trophy hunting
>hobbies include videogames
>videogames include achievements
WHAT THE FRICK I HATE VIDEOGAMES NOW
you guys are such fricking morons xD
I only go for achievements when I really like the game want to get more out of it. I seriously don't get people who only play games for the achievements.
You get literally nothing from anything you do in videogames, except in competitive tournaments.
Let people enjoy things.

I'll achievement hunt in games I really like. Also a game where I can clearly see what the achievements expect of me and I can set out to do them, I'll try to do. My cousin and I play the same games on X-Box and try to outdo each other.
He's beating me with Crash because I can't get the Gold Relic on Stormy Ascent.
Alright gays, what's your most prized achievement ?
Manifest Destiny in RDR1
caught me by surprise and made me laugh
most value i've ever gotten from a cheevo
I only 100% the games I consider my favorite, makes me feel at peace to know i can leave them forever, not having missed anything
It's kind of cool to get them while I'm playing but once I beat the game I don't care anymore, moving on, not staying stuck in the same thing forever
When they’re more than just a checklist of doing something a number of times I like them
