Someone explain to me how games like the new saints row or forspoken make it from an idea to an actual game. The people in charge must know that the things they are creating are unlikeable, right? I mean people leave their feedback for fricking free under every piece of new information that comes out about a game. Do they just decide to not look at it or do they go through with it anyways? Like how do you rationalize
>okay, the people we are trying to sell something to are telling us they fricking hate it. Let's do it anyways

    College programs turning out "developers"

homosexuals who go to college for creative writing, business management and art are so propagandized they're unwittingly or otherwise engaging in a culture war against the bigoted white male gamers they hate to have to work for

Shouldn't they learn what their customers want? It seems like for years developers are at odds with what consumers actually want.

Woke people aren't in it to make what the customer wants, they are IDEOLOGICALLY motivated.

so if the company goes bankrupt, they dont' care, they pushed the message, they pushed their ideals, and they virtue signaled while doing it.

the sharholders and people running the company higher up eat shit hard, and because those people are usually not privy to all the design choices, its much like steering a car in the trunk, your sure in for the ride, but what can you do.

          >so if the company goes bankrupt, they dont' care,
Actually, it's a little better. That way they prove that they sacrificed something. If you write your quirky, diverse characters as fully fledged characters with interesting stories and end up keeping your job, you have sacrificed nothing for the cause.
You know that old warcraft lore about members of one of the clans each knocking out of their teeth to prove their commitment? Same idea. There's glory in "heroic" failure for these people, not so much in success.

't they learn what their customers want?
Don't you understand how the West works now? Everything is top down enforcement of Californian/israeli social mores.
You don't make games for customers, you try to make customers for your propaganda.

This. Game development courses should be more like art school, let students have freedom of expression instead of saying you have to do it like THIS.

People with money make bad choices all the time.

Having money is not an indicator of intelligence or wisdom or experience. Many times people with money fall prey to manipulative charlatans promising clout and glory. This is why studios keep churning out woke, soulless mediocre media. Ganker literally has more market awareness than studio execs.

some of them do, they make the characters unlikeable on purpose as a "frick you" to gamers, since gamers arent their intended audience
some are just clueless and think "yeah this is what the kids like"

    >I mean people leave their feedback for fricking free under every piece of new information that comes out about a game.
the social media and marketing people tell them to ignore it, "it's just trolls!"

Truth is, in most cases the last 10ish years, it was manageable. You could produce ugly shit to be subversive and enough people WOULD buy it eventually - the risk/effort/reward ratios were fine. It's even easier in cases of brand loyalty.

But in the current year (+7):
    >customers have less money to spare
    >companies are saturated with bullshit jobs which they must pay, rents are also higher
So it's harder to get a net profit from making a bad game.

Bonus points for Flopspoken: It's a new brand so there's no brand loyalty that wouldve saved the game. I've met a lot of "Final Fantasy fans" but I suspect "Square Enix fans" do not exist. So noone bothered with this shit (unlike for instance something like Back 4 Blood which tricked a handful of L4D fans into buying it)

    its called Progressvism.

it creates people that are so mired in double-think that they are not ever in danger of bringing up information that goes against the group-think.

so you get products like this, everyone on board is Woke, and anyone who isn't, is quickly ejected, its a purity spiral, its infecting every Tech industry there is, and is now worming its way into other places in life.

NO ONE, not a fricking soul, was left in that company that would pipe up and go "hey these people are ugly to look at", everyone there all gushed over being inclusive or w/e woke diatribes they all repeat aloud to ashure fellow cult members they are still in the fold.

in a decent Japanese dev circle someone would say "that's moronic, make them hot, make their breasts or ass big (or make them bratty flat chests) and put badass over the top outfits on them.

    and it would be done.

its just the result of getting blasted with propaganda since grade school
they start to believe the lies like everyone is equal, women are just as strong as men and fat/ black "people" are just as pretty as whites

In the American case it is just mental illness, but in the Japanese case it is naive people really believing that this is what people want because they have heard advice from people they should not listen to.

I think basically they plan and schedule things too hard so if something starts turning to shit there's no opportunity to slam the brakes and iterate on what you got.

    >The people in charge must know that the things they are creating are unlikeable, right?
The people in charge have no idea, they look at market research, they look at what games are selling lots. Then they compile a list of things that those games have, and they give that list to the producer, who gives it to the dev team and says "if you want to keep your jobs you have to include this or management are going to get really mad".
So that's why we always get third person action adventures, face scanning, """emotional narrative""", horse riding and crafting. Oh and there's a skill tree full of skills that give you the illusion of customisation but really you don't need any of them to even get through the game.

Very easy. Tell don't show makes people who are against you are "biased". E.g. if you don't know shit about designing a strong female character, you can claim that all the feedback that didn't like your another superrior in everything smartest in the room b***h to everyone mary sue is misogynistic, because you didn't LiStEn To WoMeN, because they actually told you in the "behind the scenes" video that the protagonist is LE GOOD and are not obliged with demonstrating this in the game. And after negative feedback is successfully filtered and echo chamber created, higher managers are given graphs with green arrow up and you're good to go.
