Sonic Frontiers

I actually start to like what I'm seeing. This will probably be the first decent Sonic since Generations.

I wouldn't bet money on it. I would however like to be pleasantly surprised.

If it cracks my B tier, I’ll call it a success.

This took me a whole 10 seconds to realize this is bait. I wanted to give you credit so I'm replying to your post.

        Not bait

This is actually a pretty fair list IMO. I would easily rather play Sonic 06 over Sonic Forces or 4. 06 is melted shit, but it's at least fascinating to watch melt. Forces was one of the most boring games I've ever played and 4 handles like ass and not much else.

yeah, 06 is more replayable than Forces, but I own the 360 version and the technical issues are still really bad. Its a shame. At least if it didn’t have bugs, Id probably rate it above unleashed because the game doesn’t have boost

I played that Unity remake that's being worked on and it vindicated me a bit: Even when you fix bugs and add QOL features, it's still just a fundamentally bad game. It's more interesting for what it fails to attempt and the drama surrounding it.

Unleashed is still more fun sans werehog, even if it didn't chug like hell. It's just that the werehog takes up way too much of the game and wears thin fast, especially with the loud battle jazz which I have never forgotten to this day.

it looks like such garbage, i have no idea how anyone can delude themselves after the gameplay trailers. Genuine delusion, and i dont even hate sonic

It'll be hailed as "repetitive, but better than Forces" from a gameplay standpoint, but I have a feeling all the storygays are going to be devastated when the plot is less than 30 minutes long total. I will say I'm starting to see a familiar cautiously positive response from fans, much like the one I saw from Forces. You know, before it launched, and those same fans were subsequently crushed by stiflingly mediocre gameplay and a half baked story. So far I see no reason to believe Frontiers won't be in a similar boat.
    >but Ian Flynn
He's localizing the script. What this means is that Sonic and friends won't sound as stilted, and that there'll probably be self-referential humor thrown in here and there. That's it. People expecting Archie-tier storytelling are going to be very disappointed. As usual, literally ANY fan interpretation of Frontiers' story that you've seen so far will run circles around whatever Sonic Team came up with.

I'm not saying this to be a downer, but rather I've seen too many new Sonic games come and go to NOT see the writing on the wall. I haven't seen anything so far that makes me think all these different gameplay mechanics work together in a coherent way. It all seems far too disjointed and unnatural to play. Nothing has jumped out at me as fun looking. Combat seems button mashy to a fault, cyberspace levels look only slightly less bad than Forces' level design, open zones look barren, and most importantly Sonic just doesn't look satisfying to control at all. 6-7/10 at best. Which might even be okay, if I thought for even a picosecond that Sonic Team would try and iterate on this game's design with a sequel, but we all know they won't. It'll get tossed aside like yesterday's garbage to chase the next trend in four to five years. How can I, knowing all of the above, possibly be even remotely excited for this game? Let alone pay $50-60 dollars for it at launch?

You kids have fun I guess. Just try not to get burned. Again.

Goes to show how much of a miracle Mania was. Makes me wonder why Sonic Team/Sega even bother anymore. It's not that they don't understand their own series' appeal, there's no excuse for that. It's just that they don't care to for some reason.

If nothing else, I do think they nailed the controls for this game from the look of it. You can adjust them to your liking and Sonic is able to make a full 360 at full speed while running, and can turn properly at high speeds. I will say that not having any sort of proper slope physics is a letdown though

Can the people who are hyped for it tell me why they're hyped? I want to try and understand. The cyberspace levels are just old level tropes again and short as frick like Forces levels again. The open world could have been the fun part but it looks like all there is to do is climb up to do automated sections in the sky and get collectibles. I'm trying to understand, I really am but I don't see anything worth getting excited about.

I don't care about the cyberspace levels and honestly, I can say I never have. Even then though it's been stated there will be new levels, and instead of it being raw rehashes of previous boost games they plan to implement levels we haven't seen in a bit, like City Escape. And although this next part is a bit of copium, I hope they take this concept all the way and really create some wonky designs. Overall though, cyberspace is meh for me.

I think the open world is more of a get your hands on it and play it type of deal. I truly believe it will be fun to play even if there isn't a buttload of content. And not only that, it seems like a good majority of people who have played it also agree. That's mainly what I'm excited for, a game with Sonic that actually feels fun to play. Also seeing the story bits like the Titan throwing Sonic makes me think this will be fun.

I'm going to check it out of morbid curiosity, but my expectations will be lower than when I buy $3 indie games on Steam.

At this point, I'm just hoping modders will make some actual levels that take advantage of sonics more precise controls similar to adevnture. Tired of autorunner tier level design.
