Honestly mania kinda boring.
I found out if you own it you can install it on Vita, but I've been too lazy since it's not very interesting.
I wonder if it runs well.
I had fun.
Wouldn’t go better than mania but definitely better than Breath if the Wild.
By virtue of Frontiers having music, you are correct
RESET THE COUNTER
Only if you're trans
Cringy “le retro!!” aesthetic garbage like Mania is for trannies. All Sonic Mania banked on was nostalgia. Frontiers is actually moving the franchise forward
>OOOOOOO IS THAT MOMENTUM
well mania was actually good
frontiers is a correct step but its done so incompetently.
Is it good or do people just think it’s good because Green Hill and Chemical plant are fun to run through?
All the orignal zones for mania are better than the remixed ones
well the fact that they dont use completely new stage motifs annoys me too but the levels are completely different from the original games
first act is a combo of act 1 and 2 and and second act is a completely new thing.
If you liked S3K you'll like mania
If you like the classics, it's good. Still, it's about half or so a new game with only 4 new zones-one of which is a revival of an old unreleased one- and two thirds being old zones with a remixed Act in the mix. Also, the last Zone in the game is original and waaaaaay too long. Obnoxiously long.
No, my favorite parts is the 4 new levels, perfected gameplay I only want out of Sonic, and Mighty and ray being added, plus Amy Mania mod.
You liked Titanic Monarch? That thing goes on forever.
Because mania was trying to be the saturn game sega never made. If you honestly think frontiers is better than mania you need to have a nice day like now. You absolute waste.
Vouching for this purely on the basis that frontiers is fun and i haven't touched mania
I need to impregnate this fox
good luck she is trans.
I dont see a bulge. Non that it matters since id be balls deep in her all day
I love Mania but I feel like it probably has more trans fans than Frontiers since it was produced by indie guys
>Jim Sterling hates Sonic Frontiers
Sorry troony lover, you're on the losing side.
Obsessed
I'd say SEGA is really aiming for that LGBTQBRAAP+ audience.
I personally know only one sonic fan and he's actually gay. Of course he can't fricking shut up about this piece of shit.
yes, i'm trans and I LOOOVE Frontiers. Forces is underrated too
Mania is boring, Amy isn't even playable
it really looks like the template for someting good
moronic comparison
2D and 3D sonic are not comparable
They are when modern 3D Sonic is at least half 2D.
I feel demoralized by the love this game is getting
You shouldnt, its the right direction for sonic. even if the game is definitely not a 9.5, its important they know we dont want lost world kiddy shit and we dont want forces moronation either
I don't want soulless open world garbage thats clearly PSO2 geometry copy pasted with bumpers and rails randomly hit out everywhere
kys
It's not actually open world, it's not PSO2 geometry, and the rails/bumpers are deliberately placed. You're just going out of your way to be negative and latching onto whatever sounds bad enough to support it.
what's the "right" direction in 30 more years?
You just never liked Sonic.
The meta era is behind us
This is reason for celebration even if the game is just a 7/10
sonic fans always settling for scraps
Sonic fans have no choice, given how incompetent sonic team have been for the last couple of years. Even a mediocre game is seen as a win in their eyes because of how bad shit like Forces was. Either way, this is a win for Sega since it shows that people still like sonic even after their many frickups. God I hope they just port unleashed over to PC already
>This is reason for celebration even if the game is just a 7/10
That is the saddest thing I've read in a while.
You should be demanding better from Sonic Team instead of celebrating mediocrity. When you reward someone for putting in a 7/10 effort you're going to get nothing but 7/10's in the future because you've made it clear that its enough to satisfy you.
George Clooney sends his regards
7/10 is not mediocrity you fricking mongoloid.
Not him, but a if 10/10 is an A, 7/10 (70%) is a C. That's mediocre.
Mediocre is a 5/10 the bare minimum of acceptable. A 7/10 is good but has room for improvement.
What the frick kind of grading curve is this? If a game is a 5/10 that means for every thing it got right, it also got something wrong. Half of the game is a disaster. A game which is 50% shit is not “mediocre” it’s shit. If you got half the questions wrong on your math test it wouldn’t mean you were “average at math” it’d mean you needed remedial classes.
7/10 is a middle of the road game. 5/10 is a trash fire. Anything below 5/10 is just a slightly hotter trash fire.
Yes, it is.
I 100%ed the game because I unwittingly gave Sonic Team the benefit of the doubt and would go as far to say it's a 5/10 at best.
Damn Anon are you me?
did u like unleashed and sa/sa2?
SA1 (with mods) is my favourite 3D Sonic, not that that says much. I appreciate them trying to adapt momentum based gameplay to SA1&2 which I don't trust current Sonic Team to ever succeed in trying again.
Absolutely loved the expanded Chao gardens in SA2.
Very mixed on Unleashed. Many parts of it are not pleasant to play at all (i.e. QTE on-rail Tornado segments).
>Absolutely loved the expanded Chao gardens in SA2.
This is the part where eveyone stopped caring about your opinions. You have to be fricking autistic to enjoy that shit.
>I appreciate them trying to adapt momentum based gameplay to SA1&2
Every time one of you morons use that word I get more convinced you don't even know what it means.
>instead
I can do both.
Frontiers is better than Ragnarok for example, but why didn’t it get higher scores than it?
Did you think companies only buy out reviews for their own games?
I don't see anyone dicksucking the game other than like supreme autists who want to compare it to botw or something. the consensus is that the game is good and fun but very flawed, people are speaking out about how they enjoy the idea of the open zones and want to see more done with it in the future titles
Wrap your mind around the concept of "baby steps"
After years of trying and failing to find a formula that REALLY works, only ever coming close with Adventure and then Unleashed, they've got something with rock solid potential. It would be moronic to expect them to suddenly ace it with this new direction. Being mad about what the game failed at is fine, but ultimately not productive or even fun. Let's instead look at what it got right, and what needs to be fixed to enhance it even more.
Wrap your mind around the concept of "throwing the baby and his fricking steps out with the bathwater"
Because that's what Sonic Team do every GODDAMN time
I agree, they're very finnicky about sticking to anything for long, due in large part to the negative feedback. When everyone shits all over the newest game they think "Well it's completely fricked, nothing to redeem here." and that's not great. A lot of those gameplay styles could have worked with some fine tuning.
They stuck with the boost formula for a long while after Unleashed, with Generations, Colors, Forces, and even now the DNA from it is in Frontiers.
I think if they build off what they have here, it could really be something good. But if they scrap the Open Zone/Mini Level concept for some new random shit, yeah, I won't give them the benefit of the doubt either.
>due in large part to the negative feedback.
May I also add that Sonic Adventure 2 sold massively and was majority liked. They took the scumbag money route and soft-rebooted Sonic to Heroes to get the 5 year old audience instead of the teens who grew up with the franchise since 1991.
>They took the scumbag money route and soft-rebooted Sonic to Heroes to get the 5 year old audience instead of the teens who grew up with the franchise since 1991.
Heroes was literally made the way it was in an attempt to appeal to fans who complained that SA1 and 2 had moved the series' presentation too far away from that in the original games.
right right, while also debuting with happy meal toys from mcdonalds.
You do realize one of the main reasons behind S3K being split in two is because of a happy meal promotion Sega had planned with McDonalds. Heroes' promotion was nothing new.
Quit being a moronic underage for a moment.
Right but the whole point is that the franchise was over 10 years old at this point and the fans/manchildren you accumulate don't just with and die away for the next generation.
>the fans/manchildren you accumulate don't just with and die away for the next generation
Yes, that was my point. Heroes went back to colorful, fantastical environments, a simpler story, and the classic act structure simply because people who grew up with the classic games thought games like SA2 had moved the series too far away from them.
The team gameplay obviously wasn't something anyone requested, though, but I imagine Sonic Team just viewed it as a slight variation of Adventure gameplay instead of something vastly different like most fans do.
>wanting your talking hedgehog franchise to grow with manchildren.
homie, who the FRICK asked to throw away SA2 gameplay for Heroes? Everyone at my middle school was shitting on it at release. Meanwhile, everyone was hyped as frick for '06 coming back with Adventure gameplay. Nobody wanted this shit.
Even then, we had Sonic Advance 1, so that's no excuse for a reboot.
>homie, who the FRICK asked to throw away SA2 gameplay for Heroes?
My post didn't say anything about gameplay at all. Heroes went for team-based gameplay because Iizuka wanted as many characters playable as possible (again to try and appeal fan requests) and they thought stuffing characters into teams was the best way to achieve that.
The series has always suffered from Iizuka trying to please as many people as possible at once instead of just designing games around a singular vision.
you don't think that preceded him? The series has had multiple playable characters from nearly the start and the Sonic Adventure games had variety designs. As far as I remember, guns were included as a fan request and Naka wanted to have Shadow as the protagonist because it suited that direction better.
>you don't think that preceded him?
I don't see why that matters. Multiple playable characters is fine. Iizuka's approach for Heroes was dumb. That's it.
>So no, that's not an excuse.
What isn't an excuse? I'm not defending Heroes, I think it sucks, I'm just explaining why the devs took the approach they did based off what they've said in the past.
Personally the handheld Sonic games are what define the 2000s era for me. Most of the console games during that period are kinda crap in comparison.
It matters in that you're pointing out the reason for what happened as though it's a particular fault when it's been a part of the way the franchise has been handled even prior.
I think Heroes had novel and enjoyable gameplay. It was a bit glitchy and I remember grinding being finnicky, but the approach resulted in a vey unique entry in the series that I still like.
>you're pointing out the reason for what happened as though it's a particular fault when it's been a part of the way the franchise has been handled even prior
It was asked why the devs dumped SA2's gameplay for that in Heroes, and I explained the devs' reasoning.
Personally I do think it's a fault because people who wanted to play as their favorite character (like Tails, for example) wanted to do so with gameplay like in the classic games or SA1, not by having them stuck into a singular "this character is mainly used to fly while holding others" function. But I guess the devs didn't consider this.
Iizuka's alleged inspiration for Ow The Edge was playing Jak II while hospitalised from Heroes' crunch.
It was mainly yet another case of chasing perceived trends.
He wouldn't have played Jak II from the hospital because of Heroes development because he noted that he hadn't played that game and others because of the lack of time in the year following its release in an interview with EGM. As an aside, I'd assume Shadow the Hedgehog would have been conceptualized by around then -if not in development- which makes it harder to believe this. To top it off, apparently it was revealed that the direction of having a gun was because Sega received mail requests from fans for it to happen.
>apparently it was revealed that the direction of having a gun was because Sega received mail requests from fans for it to happen
Sega had received mail requests like that for years beforehand, it's why SA1 and 2 have have shooter sections. They ended up doing the same with Shadow simply because he seemed like the type of character who would use a gun, but with the added intention of trying to appeal to kids/teens who were into games like GTA (which is also why Shadow's game had controllable vehicles).
Shadow was given the protag role because it suited the design of a game with a gun, not the other way around.
SA2 Battle already has every playable character that mattered. Cream was an Advance series exclusive. Everyone hated Big. So no, that's not an excuse.
>Heroes doesn't even have a playable Metal Sonic
Again, no fricking excuse.
>because Iizuka wanted as many characters playable as possible
They really should just add a bunch of unlockable skins like Metal in SADX. Absolutely they can't do that for Metal and Shadow for each game, with archive audio if need be for the grunts.
>Wrap your mind around the concept of "baby steps"
They threw away the baby in the bathtub with
Heroes (bye Adventure gameplay)
'06 (bye Heroes gameplay)
Unleashed (bye Adventure 2nd attempt)
Colors (bye werehog gameplay)
Generations (traded the werehog for classic)
Lost World (bye boost, hello run button)
Forces (bye run button, Gens 2nd attempt)
Frontiers (bye classic, hello open-zone)
Nothing is ever consistent with this franchise. Sega doesn't care to improve on 2nd attempts either, instead it gets worse.
Better than Mania?
lol no.
But I like what they are doing with the lore, the story and a few good gameplay ideas that are a step in the right direction. The shit they pulled by hiring Flynn and patching things up in the last year of development greatly improved a game that was stated to be barebones and dogshit in early leaks.
However even though it's a step in the right direction, they'll inevitably frick it up like said.
I hope they don't, but if they do I hope that SEGA closes Sonic Team once and for all because the way they've been handling the franchise these last 20 years has been ridiculous.
"You should be mad it's not perfect" in a franchise with more bad entries than good is trying a bit too hard
you gotta commend sonic's longevity
Even snake could not go on any further and sputtered until finally becoming a pachinko machine.
In fairness to Snake there's barely anywhere to go with his story or Big Boss's story.
Yeah the only stuff left was a sequel to Raiden's story and maybe a remake of the MSX games.
Otherwise the only purpose the franchise had left was in spin-offs or DLCs for MGSV. There was basically no other direction the series could've taken.
Stop taking video games so seriously. If they make one that looks fun, I buy it. If it doesn't look fun, I don't buy it. Simple as.
This image is me before and after playing it.
Same.
I get the feeling that the people who claim it's a bad game never even touched it.
The trailers were extremely underwhelming and I admittedly got wrapped up in people here complaining about stupid shit.
Sonic Team is no longer an AAA developer.
Its AA at best, which for what the game is doing is ok enough.
Its more inspired and trying harder than a lot AAA games out there, which is why a lot of epople are rewarding it.
I enjoy AA games a lot more than AAA because they make up the lack of budget with good games or story. Frick AAA nonsense.
I'm 100% sure this is the best Sonic Team can do. Like, this is them trying at their hardest. It's really unfortunate. I can't see the next game having the same ammount of effort, but at least I can hope that they will at least try to get the positives from this game and make something better. Or just end the series (in spirit) soon like they did with Bomberman at this point.
>You should be demanding better from Sonic Team instead of celebrating mediocrity
Yeah, that's why Frontiers 2 is gonna make things better. If we never bought the game, they'd just scrap the open-zone idea and then think of another way to reinvent the wheel
i hope the sales are looking good
>The meta era is behind us
Yeah, now we're entering the shallow references + generic open world era.
>shallow references
Would it kill Ian Flynn to at least give some context on the references. Yeah, I know I'd get 100% of them from playing every main game and reading both comics, but what about the new generation of audiences who know nothing? They can't even buy Heroes on Steam to know what Neo Metal is.
At least animate some scenes of Sonic fighting Final Hazard and Neo Metal. Or show Dark Gaia tearing the planet apart to give context on why the reference is made.
sex
Frontiers was supposed to be the 30th anniversary game and lot of the character writing involves reflecting on the past to change in the future, especially Knuckles and Tails's stories which do at least have cut-ins to give minimal context
I wouldn't expect the references to be laid on so thick that EVERYTHING gets related back to older games in any future games written by Flynn. He likes his cheeky call-backs but in any setting where half the cutscenes aren't just Sonic & friends wondering about what's going on with the cryptic ancient ruins they shouldn't have to fall back on that.
It seems the cut-ins were a last minute addition to the game. 90% of the cutscenes are just talking heads. At least a glossary or I dunno, a boss fight cyberspace DLC challenging old foes with Super Sonic would've been a save.
I don't mind the talking since they did a good job giving everyone expressive animation on top of the voice work
Some basic bonus features like a gallery of past games with some new art or something would have been nice. It is pretty barebones as it stands, you can't even replay the boss fights.
Or maybe he could just not include the blatant references at all.
A couple small, subtle ones are fine, but most of Frontiers' are just eye-roll worthy. I particularly laughed when Sonic compared a big waterfall to the one in Mystic Ruins, as if Mystic Ruin's waterfall is any more special than the multiple other gigantic waterfalls seen in following games. Felt like someone just throwing in shit after skimming through a wiki.
Ian was smart enough not to reference anything from '06, including Kingdom Valley's tsunami waterfalls. I feel he should've referenced characters like Blaze, Shadow, E-102, Emerl, or you know...something meaningful.
Silver is an 06 character.
That was retconned in rivals 2. That also explains how he could time travel freely in that game without Mephiles' chaos emerald. I'm not even joking.
canonically sonic and silver first met in Rivals 2.
You don't have to go past 066 if you want to talk about the events being undone. If we're using the spin-offs where no major elements would reasonably carry over, fine: In TSR, there's a reference to Silver in cross-talk between him and Sonic to his mannerisms in 06, which Silver says he doesn't remember. This makes 06 a game whose events are recognized by way of Sonic's direct recollection. Additionally, of all Sonic games, 06 is pretty much the only one that is distinctly associated with Silver. He's not prominent or given top billing elsewhere after that.
>Sonic to his mannerisms in 06
>Silver says he doesn't remember
Because that's not the "'06 Silver" anymore. That's the one from a Rivals2's timeline. Only Elise and Sonic may remember bits of '06, that's true. The one in Forces is still the one from Rivals.
Sonic apparently does make a single reference to Shadow in Frontiers, but he never said any of this shit during my playthrough thankfully.
Oh geez. Half of these sound like it's about to make a Family Guy cutaway.
>cuckvok
>wisps
Why . Just retcon them already. Useless characters
Sonic and his friends have no idea who E-102 is. That's what makes his story a tragedy.
Amy interacted with Gamma quite a bit.
how can they make a reference to it if they literally dont remember any of the events of the game?
How does Sonic know the "names" of the zones through S1-3K anyway?
Did he have a detailed map?
I always thought the zone titles were just metacontextual descriptive names for the benefit of the player, or are they telling me the first "zone" on the Little Planet is literally known by the noun of 'Palmtree Panic'?
Sonic explored them, so he names them, Christopher Columbus style.
>At least animate some scenes of Sonic fighting Final Hazard and Neo Metal. Or show Dark Gaia tearing the planet apart to give context on why the reference is made.
It's not like they couldn't do it either, they flashed back to Sonic 3 and Adventure
>Redditbob
go back
Cyberspace levels are still older levels, so not necessarily if I understand you correctly.
5/10 at best. Sonic 06 is still the worst. Frontiers is just slightly above it right next to heroes as the worst in the series
>The meta era is behind us
No it's not, this game is more meta than Forces.
It's just Sonic fans review bombing it with positive reviews. It's the most pathetic shit ever.
Yeah because review bombing in the opposite direction is so much better
homosexual
Except it's only happening in one direction. You think people bought the game on Steam just to give it a bad review?
Yes
homosexual
Nice argument. Now compare the amount of positive reviews with 0.1 hours played vs the amount of negative reviews with 0.1 hours played.
I just put the filter to less than an hour played and the reviews are MIXED within that range, with both negative and positive reviews. You're talking BS. The most recent review is .3 hours from someone talking down people who play the game and calling it horrible. Another popped up as I typed this where it was reviewed negatively for being capped at 60 fps and not having ultrawide.
>the reviews are MIXED within that range
They're 67% positive. The $60 barrier to reviewing automatically makes positive review bombs more common than negative ones.
They did, look at Sonic Forces' reviews on its release date and there are twice as many positive reviews. Frontiers is too new to sort by date range, but I'm positive you'll get a similar result.
>They did, look at Sonic Forces' reviews on its release date and there are twice as many positive reviews. Frontiers is too new to sort by date range, but I'm positive you'll get a similar result.
Anon, I...
>on its release date
I don't care, and moving the goalposts won't change the fact that you're wrong.
At least review bombing is critical of something. This is just sonicgays circlejerking over a shit game and convincing anyone who doesn't know better that the game is in fact good under false pretenses.
Why didn't the Sonic fans review bomb Forces then? It even had the Classic Sonic and OC maker that they were always wishing for.
Some Sonic fans have gotten so used to the status-quo of perceived mediocrity that they try to enforce it, almost as though in pursuit of acceptance. People can dislike the game, but it's laughable how people are frustrated about others LIKING the game.
Sonic fans are well known for eating shit and loving it. The first time they get a game that's decent, they act like it's the greatest thing ever. From what i've seen, it looks fine, but they were definitely trying to emulate what made BOTW work well, but i'm not entirely sure it does for Sonic? I'll try it when it's cheap.
The issue I hold with most open world games is that once you've explored an area it's a pain in the ass to go back over it.
Sonic's speed makes the act of traversing itself really fun, especially with the rails they add as you open the map up.
Keep saying it
>blames others to eat shit
>actually likes the ubisoft game nintendo made
Lmao
Getting tired of those "frontiers status" memes recommended to me on YT. This attempt to ape MGR doesn't really work.
Same, and I got similar feelings when first Sonic movie succeeded. On one hand I'm happy for my favourite franchise getting good publicity. But come on, either movie or this game are decent at best, they don't deserve such large praise.
It's a lot of fun
This whole thing has really opened my eyes to how much people seem to just blindly hate sonic regardless of the quality of the game.
I didn't even bother playing lost world or forces because both of those games looked like shit.
Depending on what you're looking for in a Sonic game, Lost World may be worth a try. It's an attempt at trying to look at the stoppage that comes from running into walls in older Sonic games and coming up with a way to overcome that, which resulted in the options provided in the game. Hitting the wall doesn't kill momentum and instead provides another avenue to keep moving. I thought it was quite enjoyable take a look into if it would suit your tastes.
It looks too derivative of Galaxy.
It's not. Only one level has something directly resembling the Planetoids. The platforming isn't remotely similar and the movement options end up being more plentiful I'd say thanks to how Galaxy is simplified from other Mario games.
why? what does that even mean? are you moronic? or am i? what???
what's wrong big guy? not the tortanic you wanted?
gonna cry?
gonna piss your pants?
Sonic has by FAR the most autistic fanbase in gaming. These people can't function.
>Ganker has by FAR the most autistic fanbase in gaming. These people can't function
CAUSE WHEN YOUR TIME HAS COME AND GONE
I'LL BE THE ONE TO CARRY ON
Frontiers would be 10/10 without Cyber Space and with actual level platform geometry.
Boost shit will haunt this series in the same way Classic has.
It would've been 10/10 if Amy, Tails, and Knuckles are playable at least in DLC.
And if they would add a Boss Rush because I can't refight bosses as Super Sonic without starting a new save.
Frontiers should have just been Knuckles' Frontiers tbh.
He's the one that had exploration based gameplay and could punch in SA1-2, is as fast as Sonic at least in 3K, Chaotix and Mania, can climb, dig, glide… Even the animated short starred Knuckles.
given Sega's track record, it wouldn't sell unless it has Sonic on the cover. Maybe if it was a spinoff for the GBA/ DS/ 3DS but those days are long gone.
FRICK KNUCKLES
its not its just acceptable/somewhat enjoyable
the fact that this is what they managed to make after 5 years amazes me.
Where the heck does the incompetence come from?
>Spend past 5 days (street broken copy) leveling all 4 stats to 99, collect every single memory token on the map, 100% fishing, etc.
>Finally get to final boss
>Its a fricking top down bullet hell based on the hacking minigame that doesnt even factor any of your skills or levels, or even the general mechanics of the game
Whats the fricking point? Who in their right mind thought a SONIC game about going fast should have a CAVE tier shmup on a rail as a final boss??
Kirby Planet Robobot did this. I'm not even mad. Hope they add the secret boss phase so Super Sonic fights her in her true form.
Kirby having a weirdo final boss isn't new tho
Yeah but Star dream was a call out to both Galactic Nova and 02, You also didnt have 99 levels of grinding in kirby that went to nothing. Kirby just changes mechanics, its not like you invest time and energy into the robot.
Kirby doesn't have levelling, and when it does have upgrade mechanics it lets the final boss be a proper final boss (Forgotten Land)
>Play game undocked
>Never any issues with main game
>Get to pinball
>Game starts chugging hard, fan is running hot.
>Get to bullet hell
>Switch fan is whirring, hot to the touch, crashes twice
How the hell can it handle an open world, but not a fricking 2D top down shooter?
Did anyone check if Ultima is rendered to scale with the Final Boss outside of cutscenes? It'd be a huge pull of resources to render a giant titan and then a giant planet sharing particles between each other.
>NOOOOOOOOOO THIS GAME WAS SUPPOSED TO HECKING FAIL!!!!!!! EVERYONE ON Ganker TOLD ME SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After just finishing it I have to ask what people found fun about it?
ITs honestly mindless. /Just running around and occasionally grinding a subsection of rails/springs to get a memory token at the end. its like the odyssey moons, but with no character or personality to the mission. it's just there. and then to make matters worse, you can just buy them via fishing which completely trvivializes and nullfies the point to even collecting them in the first place. its not like you cant get 500+ purple coins in one starfall session. it was pretty much go find all the puzzles on the map, buy like 20-30 keys, unlock emeralds, and fight boss. you don't even have to ever really touch cyberspace.
every sonic game can be described like that
did you try gitting gud?
Whats to git gud about? I beat the whole game 100%. I just didn't find it fun. it got insanely repetitive and even the enemies were just constant rehashes. 5 fricking caterpillars on ouranos. Five.
You just dont like sonic games then
I replay sonic games to get better times all the time
I do like sonic games, when they have actual level design and consistency. Not random open world junctions, and barely passable excuses of "levels" with no identity other than L@@k NOSTALGIA! that last a grand total of two minutes if you're lucky.
So you have no life? Cool I guess.
>its like the odyssey moons, but with no character or personality to the mission. it's just there.
So it's just like the odyssey moons.
I guess having a multiplatform knock off of that was bound to be successful, even if the game is garbage.
I thought this game was supposed to be really fricking bad. The reviews it got also indicated this.
It got 7-8 out of 10s how is that bad? Realistically this shit is a 5 but reviewers don't give that kind of score unless the game is a buggy mess.
I fell through the floor twice during the sumo fight and crashed a cutscene because multiple sonics spawned in it on switch, so i'd argue it is a buggy mess.
Depends. If that 7/10 is like a PS2 7/10 game but I doubt that's the case since modern audiences haven't experienced such type of ludo.
>7/10 PS2 game plays with an almost esoteric 9/10 feel while somehow still just being 7/10
How did they do it?
I’m getting filtered by the pinball challenge…
It's honestly bullshit. 5 million is way too high for casual players, it doesn't help that you lose your multiplier to luck and chance if the ball decides to go down the gutters.
Casual players need to frick off, they ruined Sonic games. Other than that, I'd rather play this than Casinopolis or Bingo Highway with Team Chaotix. The pinball physics in this game are the best in the series so far.
Did people actually struggle with that?
>So it's actually better than Mania?
I kind of liked Mania and Frontiers equally. Both are really fun
moron take
>So it's actually better than Mania?
No. Are you moronic?
5k people can't be all wrong at the same time lmao
Of course they can you fricking sheep.
>you play as Sage in the final boss
>gameplay is switching between Dark and Light
>Dark is red/black and Light is white/green just like her two palettes
Kishimoto-sama I fricking kneel
>White is black and black is white
>Right is wrong and wrong is right
>Theres nothing left to lose
>You win
I can cut right through steel, I can bury the blade
So, go down for a second, just get out of my way I'm not letting it go
So take this as a lesson, 'cause it's all that we know
o cool new sonic game? i've never played any except sonic 1 is this worth pirating?
>worth pirating?
lmao, what sonic game is worth buying?
>is this worth pirating?
it's got denuvo lol, no free game for you loser
lol denuvo takes like 1 week to crack. i can wait 1 week to save $60.
Just pirate the Switch version. Emulate it even.
how do you pirate on the switch?
You download the NSP, put it on your SD card, and then send your Switch’s IP address to Nintendo.
Look for fitgirl or dodi repacks that come with a NS emulator. There's already one for sonic frontiers
That’ll be 500$ plus tip
Bros this game has so much soul it's unreal.
post yfw you saw Sage is coming back in the future.
I don't think they can really have her in direct conflict with Sonic anymore, they'll probably write her out with something like "Eggman has her running things at his home base to keep her safe"
is this it? has Sonic finally returned to Adventure level quality?
>janky, flawed game that people mainly like because of the presentation
I suppose so.
You people have no standards.
Pretty much
Mania is overrated to hell, but anyone who thinks Frontiers is a good game, let alone better than Mania, has been lobotomized.
Does she make it up to Hot Chick Heaven, Sonic bros?
Totally not Rei and an angel.
Like I said years ago, Sega could make a perfect 10/10 game and people would find flaws to over exaggerate. Even with this 8.5 game, the TORtanic contrarianism is palpable.
Doesn't look like seeing the footage. Elaborate, pls.
Now you're just baiting for attention.
Just finished it.
I am happy with it, I haven't had this much fun with a game since Sekiro and Yakuza 7.
I am looking forward for whatever that comes from the franchise, specially after revealing a lot of shit about the lore.
Reminder Yakuza 7 also got a 7
Okay, everyone, which Titan is your favorite in
-Design
-Gameplay/Strategy
-Song
Mine is
Giganto
Wyvern
Knight
Ultima
Knight
Giganto
Giganto's design and introduction is pretty memorable and probably will be what the game is remembered for.
Knight had the most engaging fight in terms of mechanics, though they're all pretty simple.
The music is a tie between giganto and knight
All I know for sure is that they totally wasted I'm Here
-Uninstall

-Steak
I'm guessing this was an attempt at a joke.
No those were my favorite Titans
Yeah, very sad attempt at "comedy".
Design - Giganto
Gameplay - Knight
Music - Knight
All three were fun as hell though (haven't finished the game yet), I'm happy they're trying something different as well as giving Super Sonic a chance to really shine.
Super Sonic finally feels like the ultimate transformation it's supposed to be. Making every boss in the game a Super Sonic-tier threat was a really good idea. Making him control like a souped-up version of your normal moveset was a genius one.
it's not, sonic fans just banded together and did the opposite of review bombing to gaslight people into thinking that it's good, and because youtubers always go with the popular opinion in fear of receiving backlash some of them have made videos saying how "it's actually good"
I’m enjoying it on my deck at least.
That grave mystery puzzle pissed me right off though.
>That grave mystery puzzle pissed me right off though.
Glad I'm not the only one.
You mean the one with the lasers? I didn't want to play rubrix cube in a sonic game. Everytime I revisit it it, I get it on accident.
there was a puzzle where you had to hold click on a ball flying.
I spent 10 minutes cylooping it, punching it and until the game told me to hold click, the fricking instruction got bugged or idk cause it didn't showed after minutes of trying.
>that pinball minigame
Please no...
I actually just got to this and think I'm dropping the game.
~30 minutes and my highest score was 750k. This really sucks.
>Took two tries
>just went for Red Rings to increase the multiplier
>got it on the second attempt
How are people getting filtered by it. I mean yeah it was long but it's not that hard. Just don't suck shit at Pinball.
I have sucked shit at pinball for over 2 decades and it's finally come back
Part of me is thinking of just asking a friend to do it because I had been enjoying it so far. Playing on hard mode and 100% of the three islands up to this point.
Does it just auto complete after so much time or what?
Soul
Souless
back to bite me*
That was the best thing "sad sonic" got that wasn't garbage.
I am genuinely surprised it's such a large score though. This is meant to be a game for kids, having such a tedious filter point seems stupid. I mean 1 million or 500k I could see as reasonable but 5 million is far too much. Even if I didn't get fricked by it that's still a pretty big oversight.
It wouldn't be such a problem if it was something closer to the Adventure 1 pinball tables. You need a faster way to get score. For a pinball table its lacking in a lot of intractables to score points off.
People had trouble with pinball? Once you get what it's asking (get red rings and roll around the top), it's super easy.
I got it first try without losing a ball, but it was slow and boring. Even with the multipliers it takes too long. If they are gonna do a pinball table it needs to be a fully fleshed out table. The one in Frontiers is laughably half-baked.
It somehow makes the mini game a lot easier. When I did it, the ball never fell into the middle, it would just bounce somewhere else. It also kept the ball’s momentum steady, If I’m remembering right. The only thing you would have to worry about then is the ball hitting the bumpers and falling from the sides.
I think people are just getting filtered by bad luck. There's nothing you can really do to avoid the ball going out the sides when it happens, and whether or not it does is going to be determined by randomness when bouncing between the two bumpers just above it.
I'm sure they'll be an update to fix it. There's literally stoppers on that sides that never come out lol
I’ve figured a way to cheese the mini game by just keeping the pinball bumpers up. I don’t know how it works but I ended up beating it twice doing that.
I wish I bought it on switch for portability.
I guess I’ll wait for a sale.
I'm still waiting to hear about people's legit experiences on Switch overall after they finish the game and go through all the islands. It looks really good at the start and the framerate seems very, very steady as well, but I wonder if there are places where the IQ gets worse or the resolution dips. There was a guy who mentioned that the game started causing his Switch to really start working hard in handheld mode at the end fight, but otherwise, I haven't seen too many impressions beyond that.
I'm playing it on Switch in dockmode only, 1080p monitor. It runs fine at 30fps, no dips. Tried it in handheld mode for 30 minutes, it's straining to the eyes looking for kokos that spawn 20 feet in front of you at night.
Yeah, I can imagine. A more detailed and object dense world, pop-in or not, on a small screen would likely be a strain, especially if you're actively looking for something that isn't large or on the horizon. Does the game stay visually consistent in terms of sharpness?
So far on docked mode yes. The pop-in is the main concern, it's bad on the second island. Loading times are quick. Never tried motion controls on it, so I haven't tried. There's no input delay so that's good.
The switch version ain't so bad. But if you're keeping it forever, buy the PC version and wait for the mod community to do it's thing.
Thanks for the helpful perspective. I've heard that pop-in is pretty much the same across the board, but I suspect the Switch's vegetation probably gets more of it than other versions if other versions face it at all. Hope you've been having fun, anon.
Maybe I’m better off getting it for the deck instead then.
I'm only at the second area.
There are some pretty bad graphical glitches during the fishing minigame. The water was fricking up so bad it looked like it was corrupted. Draw distance and shadows are terrible but that's just the Switch being the Switch. Nothing too horrendous like crashes or inexcusably low framerates.
There is this one portal on Kronos that was on this tall island where you do the City Escape-like Cyberspace stage I couldn't get to without unlocking the entire map so I could just fast-travel to it. Was I supposed to do that or was there a way to get there without doing it?
Underground rail leading to it. I gotta admit, the designers not holding your hand in this game makes me appreciate the exploration a bit more.
>Underground rail leading to it.
For real?
>I gotta admit, the designers not holding your hand in this game makes me appreciate the exploration a bit more.
Truly. The game does make you want to explore, even if the environment isn't that stellar.
sonic fans dont know what they want
personally i only need dx and heroes
maybe sonic 1 replay if i'm really in the mood
maybe rewatch sonic x or undeground
rest i dont care
why so much new sonic media? like are they running out of license like fox was with fantastic four 2015? let it rest like harry potter are doing right now
Because letting your media rest is risky and highly likely to lead to its death. 90s they got away with it by having comic life lines and ending the Genesis era on a high note.
HP has been pumping out equals/prequels/spin offs and games even if they aren't related to Harry himself. Sonic is trapped as being a platformer in an age where pure platformers are on life support and the IP is mostly old gay momentum.
Mania is safe recycled paint by numbers shit.
Frontiers is ballsy and smokes in the house
A beautifully created and loving tribute to the series with immaculate handcrafted stages which are some of the best in the series, vs. sonic team showing up a decade late to the "open world" meme with a generic unity demo environment, shamelessly ripping off Breath of the Wild
>tribute to the series
meaning ripping off classic
>A beautifully created and loving tribute to the series with immaculate handcrafted stages which are some of the best in the series
What a fancy and elaborate way of saying "romhack".
Anyone calling a 2022 open world game 'ballsy' is just coping. I don't give a shit about Mania but this shit is cringe.
It's not an open world game.
I go fast wherever I want.
this just looks bland
2000s sonic design but needlessly updated for 2022 in a bland washed out too realistic world
just sucks
just looking at that image and structure behind sonic and modern effects like sparks from his boots puts away
same grass from like breath of the wild or gacha
grass with digital washed out look to it
all the same bland and boring cookie cutter
Frick zoomers. I'n never stop liking what I like. Enjoy your ripoffs of other gameplay styles.
I think people are just insanely starved for a decent 3D Sonic game. The game has a lot of problems but they didn't frick up Sonic's main control in the open world so it feels good to move. Too bad rails, boosters and bumpers are fricking everywhere and automate everything
The rails aren't quite as automated as they are in a lot of other Sonic games like Generation. You actually have to time jumps and rail transfers or you'll fall off and have to try again.
Frick all of you wiener slurpers. I’m enjoying the game and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Post Sage.
>Go to school
>Get all Cs
Parents kick me out for being a failure (likely exiled from nation if asian)
>Get all Cs (video game score)
>WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAH LE HECKIN BASED BASED BASED!!! WHAT SUCH A GOOD GAME YOU GUYS!!! WE DID IT REDDIT!!!
Explain. Why are gamers so mentally ill to think it's ok to accept the bare minimum? Games aren't like the ones in the 8i0s, we've improved since then if you played anything outside of 3D Sonic.
Your parents must hate you buddy
Zoomies have no frame of reference. If you were here when gaming was still new, you know all the ups and downs it can take. You can spot how many new features were added in sequels, you can see the effort that went into improving and using tech as it evolved...
For zoomies they just started getting into this when graphics were already shiny, when everything was riddled with lootboxes so they have no perspective of how much they are getting ripped off, of how lazy developers are being. Add this to the fact they mostly have nowhere else in life to fall back on because they're programmed to hate their families and have no religion and you can see why their standards are so low and they are so desperate to have their games validated.
It's like how kids are now growing up in a World where trannies are a common topic and racism is a real word. They have no clue that all these western countries were 98% White just a few decades ago, that inter-racial marriage was a sacrilege, that at 14 you could get a job pilling rocks and have enough money in less than 2 years to fully buy a 3 bedroom house and easily support an entire family on your own with a 9 to 5 without wasting decades on useless college degrees or licenses or whatever.. And all this shit was common and taken for granted!
They just have no idea about anything.
idk, I only get As or Bs at college, and the game is fun, that's all I want.
Because I don't need to exclude 79% of my entertainment medium when it has no baring on anything of importance. You realize how much shit couldn't be enjoyed if it didn't meet that 20%+ threshold?
>PCBlack folk of all people are the sole group loudly singing it's praises
This fricking franchise I swear to god
To be fair, the game can be modded on pc:
How much of a narcissistic sperg do you have to be to immediately start "fixing" the game as soon as it comes out?
Dark Souls got fixed 20 minutes after release
The optimal Dark Souls experience is not playing it.
I actually didn't mind the cyberspace physics, only thing that did bug me was the delay between attacks, it's unnecessarily long and kind of messes up with your timing if you're trying to get an s rank
It's best to avoid enemies when possible while you're trying to clear the time trial.
Segatrash also tend to be PCscum, it's not surprise.
Not at all. User scores are high across all platforms.
False.
Over 8.0 for every platform on Metacritic. You can lie to yourself though, that's also cool.
>Paid reviews are not a thing
I knew Segagays were desperate but frick dude
Nice projection.
Uh.... enjoy your shit game, I guess? Lol
That pic is all I need to know that you're an autistic homosexual, thanks for saving me time
The game's shit, anon
Cope
Will this get a DLC expansion? It feels like they might do a Knuckles DLC just as Lost Judgment has the Kaito DLC.
what did she mean by this?
I'd like to know if this person talked about the separate islands at all proper, because making a general statement on 'THE world' and referring to 'THE map' raises an eyebrow.
That game world looks like an asset flip, no matter if devs worked hard on it or not. What's there to not understand?
Squids kinda suck.
;_;
Sonic doesn't even react to Sage's dumb sacrifice. The game's plot is hot ass and introduces plotholes.
>goes back home
>reprograms her in an hour
>Tails never reprogramed back Cosmo
??
>Brings her back immediately with character development intact
Eh.
Keep saying it
Game isn't cracked and you guys didn't buy it, I know it. So this thread is a lie, almost none of you have played the game. Keep talking and see where it lead ya...
Steam requires verified purchases. People do actually buy games.
Yes, 5 dollars.
You have to buy a game on steam to review it, everybody with standards saw what a disaster it was beforehand
CANON
>Tangle
Who cares when the waifu is canonized by association.
Anyone have a robot steal their chaos emerald on Ares Island?
It has a health bar but doesn't take damage.
Grind the light trail and stomp on its head.
Oh ffs. Thank you!
What happens if it steals the emerald and you just let it go?
Anyone compiled a list of the call back stages? I got green forest and metal harbor.
Mania wasn't good, though. It was okay.
Haven't played Frontiers yet since I'm currently broke and don't feel like sailing the seas for it.
Were people on this board trying to make this game look bad?
I just lost track of time for like 12 hours because I'm having so much fun. This is the best 3D Sonic since Adventure 2.
i think it's funny that this is the unironically the first time where the QUIT HAVING FUN comic is relevant
does anyone have the SA2 webm of Sonic falling through the ground in Final Rush?
So real talk is it actually a GOOD 3D sonic game? I feel like those are so damn rare and people just shit on anything sonic that isn't the old 2D games and mania and apparently colors was decent? idk.
Last 3D that people mass liked seems to be adventure 2. How is frontiers?
5/10. completely average. Its a good foundation for the future but the game is not a complete package and feels like a tech demo. You might have fun with it but it needs a lot of work.
it's certainly the best one in 20 years
whether or not you think it's actually good as a game rather than just a sonic game is up to you
I would say its on one level with Generations.
Mostly good with some jank/bad parts here and there which stop the thing from being truly great. People keep saying "if they iron things out and use this as a foundation for a similar sequel it could be great" but we are talking about Sonic Team here so i have my doubts the jank will ever go away.
This is probably as good as 3D Sonic can possibly get nowadays.
It's the best 3D Sonic since Generations. And the first game since the Adventure series with great 3D platforming. My only complaint is that they're still reusing Generations assets. Those stages are the weakest part of the game.
>fun platforming
>fun combat
>good music
>immersive atmosphere
>good characterization and story
>fishing with Big
Don't listen to negative grumps. It's a lot of fun.
Frontiers feels like Adventure 3. Or at least a ghost prequel to Adventure 3 considering the lore and character motivations
It's not and anybody that says otherwise are morons or people that genuinely hate you.
Mania was a shitty Sonic 3 romhack made to pander to classicgays, of course it's gonna be better
waah waaah waahh
>actually shitting on Mania
sonic is the only franchise I trust game journalists more then the fans
You should just trust your own judgment anon
Don't
The thing about a 7/10 game is that it causes seething from everybody.
I feel like the game deserves at least a 75 on Metacritic, it's the most fun Sonic game that I've played since generations, and I only found that game half fun because classic sonic sucked ass
Its literally 1 review that's keeping it low.
and of course that review brings up sonic 06 and calls him the blue blur, all that was missing is bringing up the "plumber"
I'm surprised that bullshit was able to stay up. Literally one dude's opinion. What a garbage website
Good lord the gameplay of this looks disjointed and weird and unintuitive and yeah what the frick were they thinking?
Take the L and keep Sonic 2D where it belongs.
Are we up to 3 play styles now?
The cyberspace stages are just generations so it's 2D and Boost. And the overworld is platforming like the Adventure series. Or maybe even 4 playstyles because it's a beat em up too like Unleashed.
And none of it is as refined or polished as it should be.
People love to complain about Sonic but will never tell you what can replace it.
You can. You have the power to replace Sonic, Anon, you'd need only believe.
replaced, not merely following its shadow.
Those two fan games this dude made before this were amazing.
When did Sonic turn into "Just copy Zelda, and throw in some purple Mario coins too."
Want to play the game but I don't want to pay 60 bucks for it, how
Get a job
What's up with the slot machine minigame? Do you actually have control over the machine or do you just run around grabbing star bits?
Frontiers is already 39.99 on amazon. Should I bite? Seems like a great price.
I'd say it's worth $40.
Wait 6 months for the PC version to get tricked out. Modders are already going ham on the issues.
Frontiers is weird. I've never see so many people be like "I'd buy Frontiers but not for $60". What makes a game worth $60 to you then? Because this is most fun I've had with a video game in years and I've put a ton of time into it already. Worth every penny so far.
I wont buy the new sonic game because I dont want to fuel Sonic Team anymore
They should just let the franchise die
Cool. I'll get it and I anticipate enjoying it.
Frontiers justifies full price. Forces was a budget title and it showed. Even half price was pushing it for Forces. But triple A put out movie game bullshit and 3 hour FPS campaigns for full price so a game like this with what looks to be at least 40 hours is worth it.
>already on sale for $40 on Amazon
Did this game flop bros?
>save Knux

what mods do you guys want?
-classic sounds mod for jumps and getting hit
-up/down ramp momentum without it breaking the game
-playable rouge with jiggle physics
-increase object draw distance
Just shit to make it less jank. Sonic is glued to the ground and even gets stuck running at a weird angle on flat ground after running on a slight incline and it's noticeable as hell
>the '06 jump sound
>boss rush mode
>mod 100 kokos following you at once
>day to night adjustment
>enemy spawner
>fight two titans at once.
>mod Adventure/Heroes stages into cyberspace
>Play as Chaos
>boss rush
The fact that you can't repeat their fights is fricking criminal.
Ring capacity doesn't increase the amount you need to hit super speed, so it allows you to get hit without losing it.
>The fact that you can't repeat their fights is fricking criminal
And I only figured it out after running an auto-save only save. I had to start my 100% run over.
I learned about it at the end of isle 3, so I at least have one save file to go back to when I want a badass boss battle. Eventually gonna overwrite it with an all-lvl-1 save though, the combat in this game works best when you aren't overpowered as shit.
>Ring capacity doesn't increase the amount you need to hit super speed, so it allows you to get hit without losing it.
But shouldn't i prioritize Speed instead of Ring Capacity? Does Speed transfer to Cyberspace? I am in the second island and Sonic still feels like absolute trash in Cyberspace. I am ALMOST using that mod that "fixes" Cyberspace.
Maxing ring capacity gives you forever bonus boost, then you can switch the stats to speed and keep the forever bonus boost.
Their fur texture is nice and fuzzy like velvet. I want to pet those Sanics.
>Leveling up speed and ring capacity is a waste of time because the speed boost you get at Max rings is the same as level 99 speed
i think speed level makes your air boost speed better, which is weird. at least that's what i think it is
What's even the point of leveling ring capacity?
>What's even the point of leveling
say that to aaa devs
Leveling up ring capacity is also stupid because you want to get to max ASAP for speed boosts.
Oldschool trance in my Sonic? This series continues to be made just for me.
any chiptune in that game?
2D sonic was never good by design anyway. It sold itself on being a "cool" platformer rather than being a good platformer.
3D Sonic worked better but due to the incompetence of Sonic Team still struggled to be anything more than OK.
Frontiers is the first Sonic mainline game I would call decent.
What the frick are you talking about, you moron? 3D Sonic tried to sell itself way more as "cool" than 2D Sonic did. The "coolness" factor was cramped to eleven in Sonic Adventure games, and that's not even all of the examples.
Are you underage? You have no idea what you're talking about, champ.
Just close this tab and go back to watching your gamegrumps or something.
Stop posting, imbecile.
>imbecile
Oh the irony
I tried it on steam. It sucks. The graphics are uninspired, the whole overworld is fricking boring. The controls are trash. The whole botw map thing doesnt work for a sonic game.
sonic is honestly the best character for an open world game. simple traversal can actually be fun which is surprising since I think open world is inherently bad, but when you can actually traverse it quickly it makes it not so bad
bunch of floating platforms in a ugly open world
I never got the big deal about Mania maybe it's just cause I never grew up on the classic games I grew up with Adventure but I found Mania just to be an alright throw back to classic Sonic but I sure as shit didn't want Mania to be the only Sonic I much prefer 3D Sonic cause when it's good it's really good I'll take SA1 and SA2 over Mania any day. and Frontiers while flawed is a much more interesting and engaging game than Mania. at least to me anyways.
At least you admit you're a second generation Sonic autist.
You get 2D Sonic games all the time gramps. they are easy to make basic shit. I'll happily stick with 3D Sonic
Then why haven't the physics ever been as articulate as the 2D classics?
Because Sega won't cut a deal with Taxman to copy the physics code from the Retro engine.
>copy physics code from 2D sidescroller to 3D
Anon, I...
2d bits and I'm sure Taxman would happily take a contract job cleaning up their shit in general. He's working on his own 3d platformer so maybe I'll eat my words.
No it's not even close
Still fun though
Amazing how Ganker's opinion of this changed once it came out and people actually started playing and having fun. Instead of shills whining because the quicktimes makes a spindash noise.
the better question is, will Sonic team get complacent for the next entry like usual?
Recent (poorly worded) interview has Kishimoto says the game is like a global test and they're looking at criticism so they can improve for the next one.
will Sega ever ditch the 2d sections? they are unironically the worst part of sonic frontiers
There is no reason why they should still be reusing 11 year old Generations assets. Those sections highlight how much better then overworld gameplay is compared to pure boost/2D gameplay.
They're more like forces assets now. They have better textures and are higher poly. My only problem is its literally just green hill, chemical plant and city escape. They should have made more zone assets so they don't all look the same
It's crazy how awful they are in Frontiers too
>Unleashed they were fine because it was new, a fun throwback, and the physics was built in mind with it
>Colors went too overboard and made 80% of the game 2D
>Generations had no reason to have 2D in Modern Sonic because Classic was right fricking there
>Lost World they just sucked
>Forces they sucked even more
>Frontiers they're arguably the worst they've ever been
Why do they keep doing this? Stop putting 2D in this shit man
I don't usually mind them, but on the third island when they were forcing my perspective and limiting my movement in the open zone I was getting extremely pissed off.
I had that complaint when I started the third island, but after a while I saw how easy it was to break the forced perspective anyways so I didn't care as much. That and Knight simply would have saved the isle for me anyways.
>enter a 2d section outside of the designated spring or dashpanel
>can still do the section well if not better
i wonder if modders could outright kill all 2d sections in island 3
It was super annoying when you were boosting across the already annoying island to go somewhere and OOPS YOU JUST HIT A DASHPAD WHICH SENT YOU INTO A SPRING, THEN SOME MORE PADS NOW YOU'RE IN 2D BETTER FIND A WAY OUT HAHA!
I expected it to be bad, i mean its sonic, but i didn't expect it to be so unrelentingly boring
i've already gotten a refund
I think the Cyberspace levels are fun honestly. I wish there were more original layouts but you have a lot more freedom and player expression than Gens and Unleashed
honestly the only really "hard" one was 1-2 and that was because it's a pain to get S rank time on
fun game'
Good OST
its at least an 8/10 probably one of the best 3d sonic games made unironicly
This is one hell of a course correction after Forces.
So many of the character interactions and Eggman's memos on Sonic's friends feel like Ian Flynn blatantly saying to the audience 'yeah i know this shit's fricked i'm gonna try to course correct these characters as hard as possible' lmao
Post yfw you cylooped a Titan for the first time.
sega should really work on their animations
They're an improvement from forces but still not great. They should just get some marza animators to help out.
Sonic Team needs to walk down the hall and grab some animators from RGGS.
the entire engine was built for that bread
Haven't purchased a sonic game in decades, but for $39 a week after launch I'll give this a shot.
Be sure to report back
Don't mind me just posting some nostalgia
back when the worst thing to happen to nights was being relegated to a pinball machine cameo
Wish Sonic games should capture this essence again.
Frontiers feels the closest in a really long time.
Yeah SA1 imo still has the moist soul and charm of any Sonic game out there
Frontiers gave me a bit of that feeling again but they need to go all out next game. Make a Sonic game full of passion and love
>moist
Fml
I don't even play sonic games and I'm having fun with it.
I'm absolutely loving how hard Classicgays are coping over Frontiers' success. Accept that you lost and we won.
There will never be Mania 2.
It's Eggman, not Robotnik.
It's, Earth, not Mobius.
Sally will Never be canon.
I mean you're right on most of these points, but this same game reaffirmed that his real name is Dr. Ivo Robotnik and the Eggman is a teasing nickname he reclaimed.
He says that he can't pull that trick with Baldy McNosehair though because there's no way to make that threatening and dignified.
It really feels like Flynn took what Aaron said years ago about how everything is canon ans ran with it. I was shocked to see even TSR got a reference
>It's, Earth, not Mobius.
>Sally will Never be canon.
Classicgays don't care about that. That's SATAM/Archiegays.
Anyways. As someone that likes both classic and Adventure era. I am happy about Frontiers' success but I am skeptical that Sonic Team will learn from what worked with Frontiers. I hope they do, but I doubt it.
no they wont learn shit. they didnt learn anything from forces, sonic doesnt control well in 2d for some mysterious reason. the cyberspace stages are as short as 30 seconds sometimes.
the homing attack has a huge delay for the sole reason of making it feel bad to use, and it feels like you cant move until you waste your double jump which makes your horizontal speed double for some reason. but also, we lose all speed when jumping off the ground????
spamming the spindash in the sa1 hubs and jumping off ramps felt better than anything forces or frontiers had to offer.
Lotta song samples and shit in this one
pure cringe
is this the start of emo Sonic phase 2?
>Amy finally gets the balls to move on and "spread her love to the world" probably fricking other male hedgehogs on her trips.
>Sonic now instinctually feels he's fricked up and wants her to stay his one fangirl.
Like pottery.
I feel like I'm slowly becoming less of a normal gay and more of a contrarian because everyone is loving the new GOW and I didn't care for it much but I'm loving the shit out of Frontiers but this is the game that's getting shit.
I honestly don't get it. GOW isn't fun but Sonic is. am I the one who is in the wrong here?
No, you just have good taste and csn see past Sonys attempt to draw in the Marvel and LGBTQHIV+ crowd.
You can tell most of the effort went into the Shadow of the Colossus boss fights because they actually feel finished while the open world shit feels like a tech demo
Sonic was never good.
Sonic was good, ONCE.
They need to get Howard Drossin and Richard Jacques back to do new music
Okay be honest with me
I like SA1 and 2, have grinding a lot of A ranks in 2 but not all, that's how much I enjoyed it
Will I enjoy this?
Boost formula seems way more on rails than SA2, despite that being kinda "hallway-ish"
Did you like pushing the physics to get more speed out of sonic/shadow? Boosting up cliffs and off rails gets you something similar in Frontiers, letting you sequence break tons of the overworld puzzles.
Sonic is one of the few franchises I grew out of.
I haven't played a Pokemon game since SM, but I still follow the games and hope they get better again. But Sonic completely lost its appeal to me. They could make the best game ever and I still wouldn't care.
Mania is really not that good itself. It's just a Sonic 3 nostalgia trip so it's good because Sonic 3 was good.
I mean no, the original stages are good and the unique level designs of the second acts are good so no you are wrong
>It's just a Sonic 3 nostalgia trip so it's good because Sonic 3 was good.
So it's... Good?
"It's good except no it isn't and I don't have to explain why"
Just more goys consooming their new goyslop.
>buzzwords
We won. You lost.
I only like adventure 1, will I like frontiers? Denuvo so forced to shell 50€ which seems a bit high
Sit on it until modders clean it up.
You'll probably like the overworld since it works mostly like a huge Adventure Field.
Frontiers feels like Adventure: Boost Edition, and I mean that in a good way.
>Playing on dreamcast
>Dreamcast light and VMU not even on
>TV displays SADX
Frickin' causals, I swear.
No chao zone no care
Sonic fans are literally autistic
You can produce shit and they will eat it just like they have with all sonic games
LOVE LOVE ME
IT'S TIME TO FACE
YOUR
FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
WHAT GOES AROUND
COMES BACK AROUND AGAIN
AND IF WE DON'T CALM DOWN
WE'LL BE LOST IN THE WIIIIIND
Can the sonic nostalgia stop? I want all new shit and not constant reminders of better games.
Crack when? Surely that autistic troony like sonic at least, right?
Is there a way to extract this game from steam from an account that already purchased it
You can copy-paste the folder somewhere else after downloading I guess, but it runs Denuvo so it won't do you any good.
How long until those lab grown gem services get cheap enough that I can justify ordering a real Chaos Emerald?
people already sell glass cut into gem shapes in multiple colors for like 13 bucks
I bought a green one like that already but it's not a match, mainly due to that flat streak on it. If I could find a glass one that was an exact match, then sure.
what about these
Is start that I may consider but I mean a fist sized one I can pretend to do Chaos Control with.
you would think it'd be easier to find but it's either premium glass cut or chinese plastic thumb sized emeralds
Well the fanbase is old now so now's the time for Sega to start pumping out that kind of premium merch.
nvm found some smaller ones by same company
https://twitter.com/news_merch/status/1568264142246510596?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1568264142246510596%7Ctwgr%5Eaf20f7ffa53ce81ec0023cdbcc2afda457fc2a23%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sonicstadium.org%2F2022%2F09%2Fbig-the-cat-and-chaos-version-0-added-to-jakks-figure-line-up%2F
Might get a new smaller one that comes with the Chaos toy at least.
I was at a collectible show the other day and a guy was quite literally a glass green diamond from the hobby shops for $200 titled "Sonic's Master Emerald" with a sticky note on it.
I dunno if it'd ever get cheap enough that you can buy a brilliant-cut gem the size of your fist for anything reasonable. Just get glass ones.
I genuinely cannot believe that Sonic Team was like
>Ok, how do we hide the fact this game is clearly not ready and needs a lot more polish
>Let's give it the plot of Metal Gear Rising to distract people until the next game
It's brilliant.
what the absolute frick are you talking about
Sonic was never good.
Listen.... Sonic-anons..... If you actually really enjoy sonic frontiers I am genuinely really happy for you.
But if you dare say or even THINK that this broken, unbalanced, rushed out the door $60 tech demo to Sonic Mania or any Classic 2D sonic game for that matter then you need to commit suicide so that this fanbase would be a better place to be in.
I dunno why they let you do a drop dash from Mania but I like the detail.
The drop dash colliding into enemies throws them into the air, you can turn around and combo into another attack with it too. Useful for the ones with a shield.
>t. never played any Sonic games
Is it fine to pick this up or should I start elsewhere?
you're the mark
No, download Sonic 3 A.I.R.
I'll try 3AIR, Adventure and Battle for starters, thanks anons
Is the steam version of Adventure alright or should I go for the OG?
>inb4 thread archived
Steam version with https://sadxmodinstaller.unreliable.network/
installed. Steam version is poop by itself but the mod loader fixed 99% of issues while letting you have 60 FPS over the DC 30.
star with sonic the fighters
Play Sonic Battle. Then you're ready.
start with games like sonic adventure then your work way to sonic frontiers once you feel like you've familiarized enough with sonic games
>work your way to sonic frontiers
anon, do you want him to hate Sonic?
Knowing how Sonic and Friends have been bastardized might make him appreciate the dedicated attempt to reel it the frick back with Frontiers.
frontiers barely plays like a sonic game, do whatever you want
the good sonic games are 2, 3 air, adventure 1 and 2, and generations. these games are so fricking good that we tolerate the piles of shit they throw at us just incase its as fun as those.
There's a few good starting points. You can start with the classic games and then play the Adventure games, skip a few bad entries and then get to Frontiers.
Or you can start from Generations and then play Frontiers right after.
Steam version is fricked. There's ways to fix it though, I think Cybershell made an autistic video about it. But if you can, play the original Dreamcast version, but if you got the will to mod it and fix up all the problems with the Steam version, you can. Sadly you can't do the same for Adventure 2 iirc, so get the Dreamcast version of Adventure 2.
>Sadly you can't do the same for Adventure 2
Adventure 2 isn't nearly as fricked. Install the SFX audio cut and it's much closer to the original and QoL mods like the buffed radar are all built for it.
I actually feel that this is the perfect starter Sonic game.
