None of that matters, Sony gets paid in ESG. Their shit can sell nothing, and it still would be profitable due to towing the BlackRock line. Corporations don't need customers anymore, huge conglomerates and governments with infinite money can keep them afloat forever if they do as told.

Bruh that would be the most worthless thing to use as a serious metric unless you were deliberately just trying to cover up some other failure because Sony fanboys are fricking rampant on all the major social media websites, e.g. twitter, reddit, etc. They'll even fricking hijack Nintendo or Xbox-related stuff to their own ends, or stuff they perceive to be a threat(i.e. Indiana Jones when that didn't even have any platforms announced for it).

It's like prostate cancer, it's not a question of if, it's a matter of when a major gaming space just gets hijacked by Sony fanboys. The only place that's actually immune to it by virtue of its impermanent, transient nature is Ganker.
At least the "best selling console when Jupiter is in the house of capicorn or whatever" statements is at least a concrete metric, as asinine as it is.

It's a vague and promotional metric created by Sony themselves which no other underlying data. It's not what's interesting about that presentation. The interesting stuff is how MTX and paid DLC will grow to be the biggest revenue type for consoles in the near future. It probably already is the case if you include mobile and PC. It's also no surprise that Playstation has set up major mobile game projects with third-party developers.

It collapsed along with all the others toys-to-life shit. Amiibo Festival was basically the death knell of amiibo, which is why Nintendo just smartly maneuvered it into occasional inexpensive figurines.

Ironically I think New Horizons would've done great for amiibo, putting out a line of NPC villager figures rather than just amiibo cards would've done great. Imagine the bloodbath for people trying to get that one suit cat amiibo.

Addon content may as well say gacha

Gacha, cosmetics, upgrades, maps, etc. It's not that important what it is. It's that player consumption habits are changing and will reflect the largest and probably most profitable type of revenue for publishers going forward. It's why Playstation has over a dozen GAAS games in development. It's also why games like Smash Bros Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, Animal Cross New Horizons and Splatoon are such big hits. The multiplayer, online, and social games with long term and deep monetization potential are the future of gaming.

              Anonymous

It's easy to defend continued support of a game you like and that's where one of the changes is happening. Players are buying into an ecosystem or platform instead of just a one-off game experience. It wasn't all that different before when you got sequels or trilogies. People just wanted more. Now it's being expressed in other forms like DLC or live service experiences. Again, it's the changing habits and expectations are that important.

              >It's not that important what it is.
yes it is, gacha sells like genshin impact gaas sells like overwatch. And Splatoon downsized the social aspect wich each game, I should know I bought a wii u just for that game

The medium by which consumers transfer their income to publishers isn't important to me. That consumers are becoming more comfortable doing that in various ways is. And the key elements are that the games are usually live service, online, social and or multiplayer. Nintendo isn't quite there yet, because their have a separate playerbase that's not quite accustomed to it all yet, but it's getting there like everyone else.

                >usually live service, online, social and or multiplayer.
And I am telling you is not the same, gacha can do without social or multiplayer, and the way the games are made may as well be played offline, all of those you mentioned are extras. Gacha overall requires way less effort than a gaas game, where you need more balance, moderation and gameplay, gacha on the other hand is more cheap for is closer to a collect them all model, is like the pokemon fad where you are engaged in a collector's mintset rahter than a stand out one

Xbox isn't a console anymore. It's a games service that also happens to have a dedicated machine for playing said games, in case your PC isn't powerful enough.

By that metric, you'd expect Xbox to be doing fairly well. It's just that the comparison is meaningless. Nintendo and Microsoft are pursuing their own markers, but Sony is determined to keep fighting the Console War that no one else is willing to participate in.

      >12 GAAS GAMES.
      Not that i'm surprised.

        >12 live service games
Does Sony not realize that these will cannibalize the frick out of each other while also having to compete with shit like Fortnite and Roblox?

I guess their reasoning is that only one them needs to be a success.
But considering sony's infamous lack of patience something tells me most of them will die in a year at best

      >Sony should stick with single-player games of old IPs
Worthless take. Not even Nintendo does this.

The classic Sony chart. Use an arbitrary metric like "Leading Category Momentum" that has no actual meaning, and pretend its meaningful. I miss when you fricks posted articles like "Sony has sold the most Sony games in an October month in 2020!" as if any other company was competing for "most Sony games sold"
