      >Sony literally has a full PC port of Bloodborne sitting around
Every console game ever made has a full PC version sitting around dumbass.

How is that news? Every console game runs on PC. That's where it's made. Console games don't really exist, a "console game" is just an obfuscation layer. Emulators would not be required if not for that obfuscation layer.

Yeah every game is developed on a PC.
What the frick dude did you really think anyone develops console games directly on the console in question?

Why do you morons think dev kits exist?

        Anonymous

So you can optimise and test for specific hardware and software while having access to debug menus to troubleshoot issues. You don't think games are actually made on those dev units do you?

          Anonymous

Yes, some games can only run on the dev kits. For example, GoW 2018 during development only ran on dev kits, and even lighting was baked on the console themselves.
          > You don't think games are actually made on those dev units do you?
That isn’t what he said. The game is developed on whatever machine, and sent to a dev kit to actually run it.

I'm not saying the dev kit isn't heavily utilized, there's no point of making a texture or designing something that runs bad on the dev, whenever there's a doubt even in early stages we trow there to see if it's OK, but the main chunk is done on PC, and when things are in order, we start to port it to the dev kit

Only true dev here. Almost all engines have the capability to run the build natively in editor on PC. The only exception are proxy-based engines like the garbage they use for Forza or DIRT and/similar engines.

Snowdrop, cryengine, ue, unity, RAGE, decima, whatever, can play a build natively in editor.

          1. I don’t have to hear about “MUH BLOODBORNE PC LEAKS” for the millionth fricking time already
          2. I want to get the pc version just so I can take a picture of my wiener on the Steam Deck with it playing
          3. The best armor in the entire franchise, the crowfeather armor finally be ported over to other souls games.

Nuh-uh, the best set is the choir set.

Snoys have been creating threads about Bloodborne for years solely because this 8 year old game is the only thing they have that is/was PC port-proof.
But even Snoys didn't play it judging from the sales numbers. Now that there are more credible rumours about it getting "remastered" and coming to PC the snoy autism is imploding.

Because the day Bloodborne is on PC will be modern videogame equivalent of Achilles driving Hector's corpse around the walls of Troy seven times.

It will be the day the console wars are truly over, and the Snoy has been finally driven into the ground. The sheer anal devastation, the amount of threads created, the sticky, just thinking about it makes my heart go aflutter.

It will also be pretty nice to be able to replay the game too.

It's because the game is great, but also
      >it's limited to a single console
      >it's limited to old, underpowered hardware

Of course that's if you know what to expect. But first you'd have to address some of the series' history.
This was a game (the first Dark Souls) that, by building on its underplayed and underrated predecessor with a lot of people saying we had something big- in terms of influence at the very least- and it was consoles-exclusive.
So people that were console-averse asked for a port, and people that had played it already also asked for a port, and it took roots in the pc camp very quickly, even if From was some ways from being considered a somewhat company in the eyes of many.
Then the second game comes out and it splits the playerbase up some by in some ways being very interesting- and definitely better on PC right out the box- but in a lot ways not as good- even not very good at all. That's even before they further fragmented the online population by releasing remixed and slightly technically improved versions later after Bloodborne (right?)
That's when Project Beast is announced as a console exclusive.
Now people who want to hold staunchly to an opinion, like an anti-console stance, while at the same time admit that that looks rather fricking cool, have to make a judgment call.
In the meantime, more is revealed about the game. A select few get to play it early. It is shaping up to be good news, especially for people who didn't care for the stiffness (outside of the cloth physics), or a pervasive sense of weightless- and gracelessness to the animations, or the thematically fragmented roster of mobs, or the in (too many) places sparse and almost ridiculous.. we later found out about its frankenstein's monster-like development cycles, but at the time a great many fans of the first bounced right off of it.
It looked especially appealing to people that had adopted a more laisser-faire and deftly aggressive way of playing these... cont.?

cont. ...at first clunky seeming and methodical games. It's relevant that it is very possible to enjoy a more cautious, defensive style and various ranged, explosive and empowering magics, because my _prepare_ to die enjoyers felt that it was a simplified and casul direction to go down.
Then there's xbox fans that refuse to try old sony hardware for the exclusives.
I think it's going down as a classic. It's not perfect and it's not for everybody, but it's fair to say that it's relevant, even if you don't like it. The npc questlines were a bit slim. The Hunter Tools were pretty minimal compared to Souls' magic. The build variation hovered around attack and dodge aggressively and more laid-back firearms and hunter tool chads on the fringes. The Chalice Dungeons, outside of the post-game thrill of getting ridiculously overpowered gems of calcified blood that you beat your pvp opponents' in with, were too samey and.. eerily right-angled and repetitive, almost as if it was put together with Legos compared to the main game's Kinex- Legos are still pretty engaging in immense numbers, so the Chalice Dungeons might've been interesting a mini-mmo where the labyrinths are vast, collectively proximity-loaded areas, where each individual glyph transports you to a random part of the same. Savage players become renowned in certain zones. Words spread by messengers of roaming, unspeakable combinations of environs and monstrosities. It lived a short life in the mainstream, and is most needing of a retouch in a very probable rerelease.
Then there's one of the least stable connections of all the series, on a paid-online platform, where lag is most unsatisfyingly evident.
It's not a mechanically complicated games. A soul-calibur like control scheme where all eight directions might combo into one another might have worked better, sure. But it doesn't absolutely have to be, because it feels good to play.
This is a rather more vague thing to describe and measure.. cont.

cont. than just saying it's mechanically shallow, but I don't think simple console fanboyism or general fanboy behaviour account for its presence on a lot of people's lists for that decade. For a portion of however many sales it's had, it was just what they wanted. For various portions of non-players, it was a shame.. for some almost a betrayal. "Get me on board and then console-wall me? No. Game Sux. PS4 SUX."
Now we have predictions of a remake or sequel by Bluepoint and the recent DeSR schisms are also added to a BB port or development.
So it's a feeling game. There's an invisible DMC style meter in the top right of your imagination, and you're the one awarding the ranks- you and/or your audience, if any. Your weapon has optimal moves and stances, in some cases a miserable r1r1r1r1.
          It also has
          >a punchier attack, that in some weapons is fluidly chained into from another one
          >running variations for both of the above
          >dashing/rolling- many times near or quite identical, and only for light (pls)
          >backstepping for both L+H

          >a gap-closing leaping attack that depending on the weapon is fast enough and satisfying as shit

          >left arm can be available can be available in all forms
          >analogs of all of the above
          >a reverse-transform option
          >everything- everything- animating in a gifted, wizardly style, especially compared to DaS2's. In BB you feel like a hunter. In DaS2 you feel like a guy. It's easier to project an ideal on a blank canvas-type style, but BB's is just that convincing.
Why mention all this when it's just a matter of picking the best r1r1r1r1 or a daring r1-l1 combo with buffs to just lawnmower through the game?
That's fair, and at the risk of sounding like I'm saying that you are or would be playing the game wrong: it's not necessarily the most satisfying way to play it. cont.

It might be whatever variation of diagonal lines and so forth, but if you like how you can take on entire hordes and chain different lengths, startups and stagger potentials of simple one-twos in all directions, you go to a place where you can fend back large groups with style- not necessarily with any perfection, either.
The Blood Vials divide a lot of opinions. Many rightfully hate having to stop retrying bosses to return to older areas to farm vials or currency for more vials. It takes you out of the game and into a "I'm playing a game" frame of mind.
Did you know that firing guns take no stamina, nor interrupts regeneration? You have a line, a wave, a chunk and a tight cone of damage you can fire whenever you aren't at or less than no breath, and two of them critically embarrass whatever they hit at the right time.
So where's the choice and complexity in that? It's attached to a different-looking weapon (+armor sets and fashions) with slightly different properties? You have various usables, most of which require stats and quicksilver?
You can shoot guns (and make them hurt a lot with any BMAs and stats you want to put in Style?
You can opt for a balance of strength and skill to try as many weapons as you like? The damage is perfectly fine at softcap for a new game, without trivializing tough enemies and bosses with SKLmaxxed ludicrous viscerals. It's a great hidden difficulty slider, if you like shooting. You pick up parry timings while you're at it.
Your choices are the particular aggressions and timings that your enemies present you with, as with any basically good arcade game.

I forgot to mention that to dig a hole through the game you'll be choosing from, amongst others: mechanically extending blood-crusted saws; ceremonial swords that slot into bigger ceremonial swords; sabers that feed on drops of your spilling blood and cut through beasts like butter, a fricking arm-mounted pilebunker, a wheel possessed by the blood-echoes of they who been destroyed upon it, who suck on your lifeforce and coat your blows in an arcane aura of pure spite in return, a whole arm-mounted cannon that needs an impractical amount of quicksilver to fire; a flamethrower; a weighted cane that turns into a chained, flaying whip; a primitive war-club made of stone, bone or some mixture of the two that turns into an even bigger whip that sounds like the tightest shit when you drag it about; a claymore that turns into coolest legacy epic reference weapon in all of From's games.. there's something for everyone, and they're all at least perfectly PVE viable and almost all satisfying and masterfully animated.
You can spend the game in the signature hunter attire, or you can look like a cleric of the blood religion. Many of the sets are noticeably gender-distinct. You can find a mask that kind of looks like the Scream mask. There's a big dumb gold pyramid helmet that you can't possibly see out of. Okay, a lot of the sets are some variation on a hunter, or a churchman, with some more extreme variations and a few isolated curiosities, but they're all very detailed with convincing physics.
I'm not gonna get into the bosses. You've probably seen some even if you see little incentive in playing it. If that's true, that speaks for itself.

How is that news? Every console game runs on PC. That's where it's made. Console games don't really exist, a "console game" is just an obfuscation layer. Emulators would not be required if not for that obfuscation layer.

clearly more nuance to it since developers have to hire entire separate studios to remove an "obfuscation layer"

No, there really isn't. What you're talking about is the difference between a development tool and a game launcher that doesn't have any of its features.

      Anonymous

Nah, even if they did nothing and just took the code and ran it in DX11, the worst thing would be that it's capped at 30fps and 1080p max. It would be on par with PTDE, which was still a massive success on PC and dsfix came out almost instantly anyway, so bbfix will be out before most people even buy it.
In the case of a remaster, the only possibility of it going badly, is if they go with iron galaxy instead of nixxies. As always, the art direction will probably be ruined too, but that will get fixed by mods. We already have all the unencrypted assets of the original PS4 game dumped on PC.

anon the reason playstationfats sit around making threads for 8 years about how all us pc users want this game so much...

is because it was literally the only game that ps4 ever had, and you are emotionally attached to playstation, it is your "tribe". because bloodborne came out from the time you are 12-14 years old, in your reminiscence bump, you estimate the game as being far *far* more meaningful than it is

pc gamers are enthusiasts and just plainly don't care. It was a console action game that sold like 3 million units on a console that had nothing else. whoop dee doo

guarantee you when bloodborne comes out on PC, there will be more hours played of star control II on PC that year than bloodborne.

You don't get it at a basic level because if you have a PC you have it only as a "Game console" you are not actually a computer user

Serious question though, why don't they release it? I imagine there's more requests for Bloodborne to have a pc release than some of the other games Sony is porting to pc. I guess the same goes for Demon's Souls. With From being gaming's currently darling it seems like it'd be easy money. Not like they're holding it to move PS4 units.

I've considered that but it's been 3 years or so since the Demon's Souls remake with no apparent pc release in sight. At this point I just imagine someone at Sony really doesn't like From's success and will do what it can to prevent them getting bigger.

Maybe so. Personally I don't think Sony would lose some massive chunk of their audience even without CoD but I guess I could see them use From as their ace in the hole.

they said they will literally have to exit console business without CoD. It makes up like 40% of playstation's profits. not even joking

I'm also going by Spencer's statement regarding Xbox as a brand. For one Sony still has the cult brand following, there's always the sports game which are also massive, and presumably CoD would be on Gamepass so you could just play it on PC rather than buying an Xbox.
If I was a betting man I'd say Xbox's ultimate goal is to exit the console space and instead be an entirely streaming service which would get adapted into Steam, Playstation and Nintendo. It's hard to take what Ryan says seriously when Sony cries foul whenever anyone does the things they do.

For a moment they did. They never recovered from how disastrous the Xbox One reveal was plus how they've handled their one well known IP with Halo. With Sony, even without counting first party titles, a lot of series are associated heavily with them just because of their legacy.
I'm sure if the next From game was Xbox exclusive Sony would come out and cry crocodile tears about how it's unfair. 5 minutes later they'd quietly release Bloodborne on PC to pretend like they hadn't been doing the exact same thing.

            Anonymous

Microsoft buying ABK is a win win. Microsoft will kill COD, because they run almost every IP they have into the ground. Sony losing COD will force them to innovate, or die.

            Anonymous

What world do you live in where the only option they have to losing COD/Activision (or bleeding money to MS to keep the games) is to bring back Bloodborne? The game is not even in the top 10 best-selling PS4 games. It sold vastly less than shit like Days Gone, a game Sony doesn't even want to touch anymore despite moving 5+ million copies, or InFamous Second Son, a game that's been long forgotten for years. Bloodborne has less mindshare than even Horizon Zero Dawn, who on PC years after it's initial release sold 2.4m copies in a year (nearly as much as Bloodborne reported lifetime sales of around 3-4m 2 to 3 years after it's release) yet people act like no one cares about it. Given that, why would the move be to bring Bloodborne back? It's ironic you Bloodbornegays are this insane given the themes about madness and all that.

Pretty much every video game is developed and tested on PCs so internal builds are all PC games. This is true for Sony, Nintendo, and Xbox exclusives (does Xbox even have exclusives anymore?). They release them as console exclusives because they want people to buy their dumb hardware. None of this matters unless that dev build gets leaked.

      Anonymous

What I'm wondering is why do some PC ports feel like a console version or are the performance so bad?

I wonder if the development isn't better on the console from the start and is only then ported to the PC...

        Anonymous

Because development hardware is not the same as consumer hardware. If a game was never designed for PC, then there will be a lot of stuff that may run terrible on certain PC hardware but not on consoles. That all adds up and you end up with a game that will be hell to "port" to PC. This will happen less now since developers are probably developing their games with PC as a "potential" target so shit is going to be more straightforward to port.

  88. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

imagine if someone did have a legit pc version of bloodborne and publicly came out and bragged about not releasing it. Thinking of those preservation-gays that hold rare or obscure games instead of archiving them online for emulation

How do you mean that exactly, with "tuff they've completed but hold back" and in relation to stock boost?

If you're talking about it (I assume you are somewhat familiar with this), several branch studios usually work together on the big aaa games. Do you mean the devs or other employees can exchange information with each other or get advice (it always means ask a lot of questions to expand your knowledge)?

  94. 10 months ago
    Anonymous

Pretty sure this is common nowadays, game development obviously happens on PCs and since modern PCs are more than capable of running any game anyway it's definitely going to be much easier for the devs to be able to view and test their work directly without having to go through the extra step of deploying it to their dev kit every time. Of course the dev kit is still required to test on real hardware and to make sure the game runs properly, plus the PC build may not actually be particularly optimized for PC performance, but these things don't change the fact that being able to run the game at all on PC would be a massive benefit as far as workflow is concerned.

Why has fromsoft not used anything from bloodborne in their other games?
No pistol parry mechanic, no trick weapons (??), no cool hunter dodging.

Like I get being autistic and not wanting to use the setting again because "you already did that" but all of the gameplay elements you just ignore? Light rolling should be the hunter dash, your character should run as fast as the hunter does.
I literally don't get it, you have no idea how much I was disappointed that in Elden ring light roll was still the gay fricking roll; just make it the hunter dodge god dam.
