I hope you're baiting. V doesn't have either an emotional core like IV or SA's strong charm to not make it the most obnoxious game in the series.
GTA 4 is actually the worst game in the series. No amount of jerking off about the physics engine will save it from being a boring, bland and uninteresting game. It doesn't even come close to the Y2K atmosphere of 3 and has none of the charm of VC and SA. It's a joke. 5 isn't that good either, but it's still less obnoxious than 4.
Niko alone elevates the game above all the others. Makes the game feel more real and brutal with all his warcries and other characteristics. Even setting aside the physics, the gameplay is superior too. Combat is the best in the series by far.
I definitely put the game above V. As far as the 3D universe games are concerned, their setting and overall vibe might be more interesting, but they don't have the same intense gameplay IV does. So that makes IV the best in my opinion.

No. That has exactly the same formula as all other GTA games. You either like it, or not. It's not more variety just because you get a handful of more gadgets to play with.

It's very obvious that when they moved from RenderWare to Rage/Euphoria they decided to make it more grounded. A back to basics like GTAIII.

The missions are pretty boring, but the world itself is not. Throwing coffee cups at gangbangers and baiting them into punching cops will never get old.
I really like the dialogue in it compared to GTA5, the characters know when to stop talking.
I was so pleased that I recognized Rosalie Aprile's voice straight away. The Sopranos should have had a rasta character in it.

It doesn't, I finished it recently. The mission variety literally never improves, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking. And the supposedly good story? It's okay in the beginning but then it halts to a stop and drags on without nothing interesting happening until you're about to finish the game and then it just delivers the worst final missions in the franchise. I can appreciate some stuff so I'll still play the episodes but I don't think I want to replay it ever again

The expansions. Gameplay improvements aside, they transform the story into a series of events seen through three player perspectives and improve it greatly.
But you're right, it was a disappointment at the time. It has a fraction of the content and variety San Andreas had. In 2023 you should appreciate it as an atmospheric & grounded time capsule from 2008.
