Almost. RE2R is pretty great, though obviously a lot of compromise was done which makes it objectively worse in some areas.
Also, I'd say Nier Replicant 1.22... is pretty objectively the better version. That's the only example where I'd say it's a straight upgrade, outside of a few music tracks some people prefer.

Imagine that game having to factor in the idea that you don't have a knife during the QTE with Krauser, or entering his fight without one and the game being cool with that.
i like the grounded ui though, you get this little HUD widget that tracks all your vitals that mimics the device the characters all wear on their wrists. it even has a cute little tamagotchi style blob that shows up when you get too thirsty/hungry and it switches schemes for night and day... i wouldn't include it in this graphic at all D:

Effort doesn't equal quality. If they went out of their way to show the 3D models in the menu, it would look like shit and you'd be able to see how bad they look up close. What would that effort be worth? Now players just see how dumb the models look.
The portraits look much nicer and are there to show you what the characters actually look like, they aren't supposed to look like blob people anon, that's a technological limitation.
It's one of those nice coincidences where you can put in less effort for higher results, those portraits are concept art I believe, so they just used them in the menus. It all works out quite nicely I think.

This was the thing that really fricked it up for me. The original game's UI was very tactile, which was a large part of what made it so satisfying to navigate, especially -- obviously -- the attache case. Doing this minimalist shit completely misses the point. Removing the laser sight is a travesty. The other issue, obviously, is removing the slow buildup to the plagas reveal and making it start at night. The daytime setting and the villagers seemingly acting normal until you interfere is part of what's creepy about the opening.
The game looks good as a sequel to RE2R, and
I imagine it will deviate enough from the original that it'll end up being the best way to look at it, but they clearly don't understand the smaller details of what makes RE4 special.
Still looks fun and I'm gonna preorder, I'm just disappointed with a lot of the changes.

I'll take hand drawn portraits over those 'advanced' 3D models. 2D hand drawn portraits are timeless, 3D models age, especially PS1 3D models, best not shove them in the players face if you don't need to.

Effort doesn't equal quality. If they went out of their way to show the 3D models in the menu, it would look like shit and you'd be able to see how bad they look up close. What would that effort be worth? Now players just see how dumb the models look.
The portraits look much nicer and are there to show you what the characters actually look like, they aren't supposed to look like blob people anon, that's a technological limitation.
It's one of those nice coincidences where you can put in less effort for higher results, those portraits are concept art I believe, so they just used them in the menus. It all works out quite nicely I think.
