>sound moves. >punching moves. >cutting moves. >wind moves. >contact moves. >ball and bomb moves

>sound moves
>punching moves
>cutting moves
>wind moves
>contact moves
>ball and bomb moves
>bite moves
>dance moves
>explosive moves
>powder moves

Is this becoming too much? When we are getting abilities and items that drastically impact how categories of moves function, is this getting too convoluted? Especially when we have translation inconsistencies that make it harder to keep track of (the infamous sucker punch not being a punching move). And I still don't get the logic behind what qualifies for some of the ball/bomb moves

Yes. Contact or non contact is cool, but sound, kick, punch, powder and the rest are too much. They really need to start removing some of these more cluttered battle features instead of gameplay mechanics.

No, they should add more since it gatekeeps the shitters

    >Sharpness: Boosts cutting moves
    >False Swipe not affected
Why is Game Freak like this?

False Swipe uses the blunt side of the blade. Hence it wouldn't be sharp.

        Blunt?
Have you ever seen any of False Swipe's animations?

          >みねうち (Strike with the Back of the Sword)
It references using a katana, much like how Aerial Ace references Sasaki Kojirō's 'Swallow Return' technique.

Okay fair, but the animations don't show that at all

The only Gen that straight up don't show the back end intent are 2, 4 and 5, even then you could argue 2 and 5 did a different sound and shine/bubble effect despite using the standard slash and 5 ended the animation with the largest part on the bottom rather than it starting with it as other slashing moves do, it's too ambiguous to convey it properly

To elaborate Gen 3 has the motion before the strike, Gen 6 has the backward curve hitting as if razor wind was playing backwards, Gen 7 has the curve going downwards similar to vine whip and Gen 8 has the backward curve again hitting but it's the fastest one so far

I haven't used that move at all in SV, most of my captures where Pawmoot nuzzling things into submission but false swipe is one of the few moves they have been autistic about so it wouldn't surprise me that they did it just as in Gen 7/9

They should just rename moves or just add better attack tooltips to indicate what categories things are to make things more intuitive.

I don't think anybody's going to shit themselves if they just decide to rename Sucker Punch into Surprise Attack when they've gone as far as to straight up remove entire moves starting last gen anyway.

Yes, and? I know what a Sucker Punch is. Do you know what the thread is about, anon? The point is that people who don't bother looking it up have been confused about Sucker Punch not being a punching move because it was a bad choice of localization in retrospect.

no it's not. a sucker punch fits the theme of dark types fighting dirty

I love these. They're like types without having to make 20 new types.

No, 99% of the moves belonging to one of those specific categories are extremely intuitive, you're a brainlet if you get confused by this.
Only Acid Spray can catch you off guard if you don't know the attack animation, but it's a non issue since nobody uses that move.

After posting this I was thinking, I bet there's a case for Pyro Ball, despite it clearly being a ball of fire I bet it's not blocked by Bulletproof because gotta shill Cinderace,
Nope, it's actually blocked by Bulletproof as you'd expect.

Unless the move you use was a punching move then it won't work. If your move instead was a contact move you should use Protective Pads instead
