Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Loghain always intend to betray the king at Ostagar? I believe it was implied that he'd been in instigating several of the main quests, Arl Eamon for example was poisoned prior to Ostagar, and he baited the circle into launching a revolt
>He wanted the king to be his puppet or die so he can take over
Wasn't he already (mostly) a figurehead, with the whole Ostagar shit him getting out of his control?
>But most importantly he wanted revenge against Orlais.
I thought he was just concerned (rightfully in my opinion) that the King was forming an alliance with them secretly?
I mean he was basically right about Cailan forming an alliance with Orlais. In return to Ostagar you find letters that pretty much prove he was planning to divorce Anora (Loghain's daughter) to marry the Empress of Orlais, who just wanted a political alliance with Ferelden to use their soldiers in a campaign against Nevarra.
She's an unmarried lesbian in Inquisition it wouldn't have been any better than Anora and he probably would have been assassinated so Orlais could have a claim to Ferelden again.
I think the issue was less a return to Orlesian oppression and more that Ferelden would be forced to send soldiers to die for orlesian interests, which for a war hero like Loghain would be intolerable.
No, the issue was that the king didn't do exactly and exclusively what Loghain told him. He didn't want to have his ear from time to time but be directly in control of the kings decisions. He wanted the king to disregard everything that wasn't leading to total death of all of Orlais. Forget the isolated incidents with the dark spawn, thats total hogwash anyway. Bolster the fighting forces and lead them straight into Orlais to satisfy Loghains bruised ego.
>Bolster the fighting forces and lead them straight into Orlais to satisfy Loghains bruised ego
He was concerned that the Orleasians were planning on reconquering feredelan after entering uncontested to deal with the supposed blight.
If you knew anything about the Fr*nch or had read the books or hell, listened to Lelianna describe the politics of Orleas, you'd know that's a valid concern.
>you'd know that's a valid concern
Then deal with that later. >look up that mountain pass >see all those little lights along the ridge? >those are torches >maybe another 2-3 days and those torches will be here >know who is carrying those torches? >darkspawn >if they catch you alive they will enslave you >then they will use you for food, labor or reproduction >if you're lucky they just kill you >so we can work together or die alone >your choice
Either with us or against us and Loghain made his choice.
>People unironically think Loghain could have turned the tide
The situation was completely fucked, made worse by the delay at the signal tower. If Loghain had stayed, it's very likely the whole army would've been destroyed.
>The situation was completely fucked, >game explicitly shows it wasn't, Loghain just didn't follow the plan where they'd pincer the darkspawn once they're bogged down at the base of the tower
stop writing shitty fanfiction
>The situation was completely fucked, >Royal strategist didn't say anything during the meeting >even though the Dark Spawn just wiped out the royal contingent and Gray Wardens, he pretended like everything is under control afterwards
It's literally just like one two contrarian retards on Ganker kek. Loghain is not written to be some classy general trying his best for Ferelden and making the hard choices, he's written as a sleazy retard that has done the most damage to Ferelden out of anyone else and is actively the biggest thorn in your ass the entire game. There's zero reason to side with him or forgive him, he is not competent anymore, he is just a retarded chud.
>Loghain is not written to be some classy general trying his best for Ferelden and making the hard choices
That is literally how he's written. He even on outright says so to hit you over the head with it.
honestly the entire battle of Ostagar reminds me of the GoT S8 battle of Winterfell
Is the battle supposed to be a bait and switch? They have a very strong position to just decimate the darkspawn with arrows, magic and catapults. It may be a ruined hold but still has good fortifications yet they run into the field for a skirmish.
It could just be dumb action for dumb action's sake but I want to believe they did that fight for a reason. That being to lure the darkspawn in so Loghain's army can clear up from behind.
The whole plan was hinging on the archdemon showing up and Duncan killing it to end the blight prematurely, it never showed up because the darkspawn forces weren't cut down enough.
It wasn't "impossible to win" but you were delayed in giving the signal so while Loghain might have turned the tide if he charged anyway, there still would've been grievous losses. And it's not like the Archdemon was even there anyway so it wouldn't have been a significant victory. Just good dead men and momentarily routed darkspawn.
Duncan was hoping on the long odds the Archdemon would show its ugly head so he could go in and kamikaze it.
it took me 10 years to realize the console versions are the only non-bugged ones for this game. it sucks playing at unstable 30 fps with ugly textures, but goddamn, it's nice to have abilities and damage work properly for a change.
>just mod it to fix all the broken things
I did that. half the shit was still broken. I'm fairly certain game logic is tied to 30 fps, which would be 7th gen, BioWare it to do. I haven't reinstalled on PC with a frame limiter to verify yet. I'd rather just replay the game for right now.

He tried to convince the king to leave the frontline several times to no avail, he wanted the wardens to get btfo primarily.
he didnt say that, hesaid sound the retreat THOUGH
What a hero, I can't believe King Cailan beat the archdemon at Ostagar so quickly! Now we're all safe.
>People unironically think Loghain could have turned the tide

It was his duty to die next to his king, if that's what was in store for him. Non-whites wouldn't get it.

Pretty rad.

muh epic LOTR charge cutscene plz understand...

Why did he go along with the plan if it was impossible to win? I haven't replayed in a decade.
Because it wasn't.
Loghain fucked everything up. The end.
The schizos in this thread are just that, schizos.
he didn't count on Loghain just randomly betraying the king, no?
People are saying Loghain was right and the battle was unwinnable, I just want to know why they think that.
>People are saying
It's one schizo, and he's making shit up.
contrarians like spamming their hot (cold) takes, thats all.

>you were delayed in giving the signal
Loghain was planning to retreat all along you dumb gay.
And Duncan didn't know that. All he knew was the signal was late.
>talk about Loghain's retreat being rarted
>"MUH DUNCAN"
Holy illiteracy.
.. anon the subject was why Duncan went along with it. He thought everything was gonna be fine.
He was basically dying of old age and as the lore notes when grey wardens start to get up in the years they tend to go suicidal.
it took me 10 years to realize the console versions are the only non-bugged ones for this game. it sucks playing at unstable 30 fps with ugly textures, but goddamn, it's nice to have abilities and damage work properly for a change.

most things work properly ime anyway
