Soundtrack/ Music recommendations

Been making a playlist of mostly videogame music for months now, looking them up on lossless or at highest quality as possible.

Consists on 2440+ songs as of now. There's a lot of vidya I havent played due to lack of time/ taste differences/ money, but I would like to include bangers that maybe I've never heard of.

Also maybe I would get to know new games to add to my backlog, any recommendations?

I don't really like epic/ orchestral music or rap but if it's too good I will give it a listen.

I generally don't care enough to look for lossless, CD' quality's good enough for me. Is there really a major difference I'm not hearing? I can tell if it's compressed to shit, but CD seems fine to me usually.

It is fine, however I can notice a difference on instrument clarity between the usual MP3 320 and the FLAC/M4A, after listening to it constantly I started to notice the instruments feel separated and I can tell each sound apart instead of all ff them mixed in. It's small, but it's there, also depends on the quality of the rip, not all FLACs are real lossless.

Within a Deep Forest and Knytt are some of the more forgotten indie classics. They have fricking god-like soundtracks, and are especially atmospheric like Yume Nikki and some of Lisa.

No problem. They, along with Cave Story, were the first majorly popular indie games, as well as the first to get a LP on YouTube, thanks to DeceasedCrab (oldgay from SA).
Knytt Stories is the best of the three. Within a Deep Forest has some pretty bad controls and the ending was incredibly shit (although unique), and Knytt is just a watered down version of Knytt Stories, but they are all good, 1-3h length games that certainly deserve a try.

I see, I would like to have them on Steam but I see these are free anyways. I'm a fan of 2000's Windows / GM / Flash games so I'll give them a try.

Knytt Underground (sequel to both Knytt and WaDF) is on Steam, but it does not have the charm as the others do.
Hell, play Iji, that's another Swedish indie from 2008, and has a cute girl who kills weird blobs. It's similar to Cave Story.

final of puyo puyo bangs, I can't think of a single song that does midi metal better

That and Mean Bean Machine both mix into THE best Genesis soundtrack. Still waiting on some art of Arle vs Robotnik.

Thanks for the recommendations, also I wanted the games on Steam just to support the devs, I'll maybe buy the Knytt Underground it If I like the prequels just for love.

A soundtrack that I personally find underrated is Mobius Final Fantasy, it's a mobile game but had an extremely solid soundtrack with a good mix of music genres

Ragnarok Online's soundtrack is a solid one as well and will provide you with a number of catchy songs, SoundTeMP is quite legendary

Final Fantasy XIVs soundtrack(s) are also definitely worth a listen; many talented composers that have made a lot of bangers

Donkey Kong Country 2 is probably one of my personal favorite soundtracks, if you don't have it already you definitely should
I personally consider it to be David Wise's masterpiece

Already have the DKC series music in.
Not a fan of Final Fantasy but I've read that it has some solid bangers, it has way too much music tho, I'll add these and the franchise to my downloading backlog and Ragnarok.

      - 8/10 actually nice, sounds cinematic and I think that's actually the point, love the piano and chores.

      - 7/10 I love vibing music like this, always good whenever I need to do work or hw.

      - 8/10 Is this a FG? Sounds really cool! I'll check this OST right away

      - 8/10 Takes a little to get there but that tone at 1:10 is a banger! Never heard of this game before, might check gameplay later.

6/10 not a fan, but I'll check out rest of the OST because 2:01 sounds really nice! (Also I'm lacking racing games music)

      - 7/10 A mecha or shooter arcade game, maybe? Sounds nice, sounds like it could fit really well in a very tense battle or a cutscene.

      - 8/10 Sounds romantic to me, music I would love to play playing Stardew Valley or just vibing, really cool!

      - 8/10 this screams arcade, loved the 0:51 part and onward, is this a shooter game? Sounds hype af for an action game!

https://youtu.be/b28c9blyoi0 - 8/10, yeah sounds like boss music, was gonna give it a 7 but that piano oh god, it really helped!

Hope I didn't take too long, another song from last game auto played, it has good music! It'll take me some days or weeks to check out all of this, thanks anons I really appreciate it!

Seems you're more into slower/more chill music so try this one.

Ridge Racer is a long running series with many games so there's bound to be something you like from its audio history.
        >shooter arcade game
Pretty much. Arcade style shooter for console.
        >is this a shooter game?
Silhouette Mirage is a 2D side scrolling action shooting game. It may scream arcade but it was originally for Sega Saturn.

I'm personally waiting Atlus to drop the Soul Hackers 2 OST, game is meh but the OST is actually nice!

              >King's Field
              Very nice.
Overall these are pretty good. Some of the high parts are watered down with poor audio level tuning unfortunately (like with the first SMT's battle theme. also that ginza mix just sounds off). Usually people go crazy with instrumentation so I appreciate how all of these stay super close to the feel of the originals. I will always prefer regular versions though...
...except maybe that Mystic Quest battle remix holy frick.
I've also never heard Jack Bros music before. Can't say I'm surprised it kicks ass.

Hey, I'm glad you enjoyed the good parts of the stuff. Most of those Megaten covers are from the day I created the account, so those in particular have some lackluster mixing. I'm surprised you didn't care for the Ginza one though, I know people really like that one usually. Very glad you like the Mystic Quest track though, it's a banger in any form.
                >Synchronicity prologue
I love that game, and that's my favorite song in the game.

Excellent, you're truly a Megami Tensei expert. Do you have any favorite official arranges?

Your remixes are respectful. Definitely can't say the same for most people's stuff out there. Keep doing what you're doing.

Favorite official arrangements? Hard to say. Is that from the DLC? I never did DLC for 4 or 4a. That's really good. I like how it expands a bit on the original track without changing it up too much. Actually, speaking of flute, I'm kinda struggling to find a really good VST for it; I'm redo'ing a cover that needs it.
Usually, I generally prefer how the tracks sound the first time around for SMT. For example, I don't think any version of Pascal's theme has outdone the SFC original, official or otherwise. I do like the remix of Nemesis in Nocturne though, I think the instrumentation's a bit better than the midi on PS1.

Yeah that one was from the DLC. 4A's is great fanservice but 4's can be skipped.
                >I like how it expands a bit on the original track without changing it up too much
                Exactly.
I forget that the Amala battle theme is a remix of I's battle theme. And yeah that piano and violin is hard to leave behind.
                >Usually, I generally prefer how the tracks sound the first time around for SMT
                Exactly exactly.

                >Yeah that one was from the DLC. 4A's is great fanservice but 4's can be skipped.
Maybe I'll load the DLC onto my 3DS then and try it some time. I actually really enjoyed 4A and I think it gets a bad rep sometimes when it doesn't deserve it. Just turn VA's off and most of my issues with the game are gone.
                >I forget that the Amala battle theme is a remix of I's battle theme. And yeah that piano and violin is hard to leave behind.
I didn't know that the first time I played Nocturne, since my only SMT's before that point were 1 and 2. Honestly it's my favorite track in Nocturne. Nocturne's also my least favorite overall though.
                >SJ remix
Goddamn, that's really good. I think you can do stuff that's arranged quite a bit differently from the original track and make it work, it's just gotta be done sensibly and you can't force it too much. I'd like to do some DQ tracks in a rock arranged style but I'm genuinely too worried about fricking it up.

I was gunna respond to this too but forgot before I hit enter. I like to make my covers be mostly the original music, with occasionally a bit extra. A little extra solo work can be fun (I did it in that cover of Battle of the Holy I posted, as an example), but too much and it just becomes needless noodling imo. People tend to listen to tracks over and over that are mostly killer and no filler, and that's what all the good video game tracks usually are, just the right amount of music.

Yeah BRS was kind of meh tbh, I liked the combat and the music of the game is pretty memorable.

The Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force games have pretty dope music, Spirit Caller from DS has also a pretty cool OST, played it a shitton as a kid.

Arc Rise Fantasia is a decent J-RPG from the Wii, if you ever play it, look for an undub version of the game. I usually prefer English VA's but in this game the voices can get kind of lame even on serious scenes it just kills it, had to delete the game and look for the Undub when I played because I just couldn't stand it more than 10 hours. It's not a masterpiece, it's good, but I don't know if I could recommend it. Can get quite difficult at some parts, mainly on bosses that get out of nowhere, kill you and know you gotta come back from last checkpoint. Lots of grinding, history and characters are average at best.

If you love JRPGs is a nice addition but not really a must play, look for battle gameplay and I would say go for it if you like what you see.

Only thing I really liked in Black Rock Shooter were the character designs.

I'm very well covered on SMT music, maybe a bit too much tbh, like 100~ songs are just SMT maybe more.

I'm curious on Ys, saw the new games they look hype but it's one of those franchises that have way too much games out and I don't know where to start and where to get time, but I really want to try them!

I'm surprised the music is this good, feel like I'm missing on a great franchise. Favorite out of all of them is Illburn Ruins and Campanile of Lane, thanks, holy frick the last two are so good!

Haha, fair enough, I just always wanna make sure there's SMT in people's collections. Y's is really cool, and the early games are short. This week alone I finished 1, 2, and 3, going into them totally blind. Very cool games. Glad you like the music, cuz all those Ys tracks have been stuck in my head all day.

It's pretty fun, has a few bullshit parts in it, but on the whole, it's good. Have fun, anon!

And most of Namco's stuff for that matter, Tekken, Katamari, Idolmaster, Ace Combat, etc.

This is the only vidya music thread so I'll just ask here. Does anyone have that one track from some 90's game that sounds like some loud, high frequency nonsense. Might be SNES or Genesis or something else.
It's usually among the first things posted in 'Shitty Vidya Music' threads.

NEO TWEWY has a fantastic soundtrack, some of the songs do have rap though

I also really like a lot of Xenoblade 3 songs
