Both of you are so astoundingly wrong that it perfectly captures what's wrong with the two extremes in Spyro discourse. On one hand, you have a Reignited gay that's so fricking insecure that he can't even bring himself to admit that a level stripped mostly of its color and dreamlike atmosphere (something Spyro was commonly known for right before it became akin to believing in horoscopes immediately after Reignited came along) is an objective downgrade. I get it anon. You shrug your shoulders and go back to sitting on your ass and watching tv after hearing that a famous painting of a sunset was recreated using shit as paint. You don't care because you're so cool and above it all. The thing is though, your complete apathy is irrelevant to the actual quality between the two pieces as everyone with a heathy mental psyche will be reduced to OLD GOOD NEW BAD-spewing caveman because the ability to understand and recognize soul is intrinsically human.
You might say that's an extreme example but everyone will look back on the original Icy Peaks more fondly than the remade version and it isn't hard to see why. The original puts people at ease and conveys a sense of fantasy that makes it memorable. No one will look at the new version, see the dead colors and the unity assets that make it look indistinguishable from any other game should Spyro be edited out, and say that it's better. Even now, no one really puts any effort into defending it besides giving out weak appeals to higher graphic fidelity or that it's different but being different is a meaningless statement as what matters is whether putting a new spin on the original succeeds or fails at giving it it's own special appeal. Not sure why this is so hard for you people to concede. It's not like Reignited didn't breathe new life into certain areas to really give it some newfound appeal but it's so nonsensical to feel the need to defend every change it made this radically. It comes off like this was your first exposure to Spyro and that any concession that it faltered somewhere means that your experience wasn't definitive.

The first LoS game was pure shit through and through, second one wasn't much better, and the third one is only half decent, but even then it's still just a mediocre God of War ripoff
People liked the stories because they're scalies. People don't like the gameplay other than the free flying in the third (?) one, they just want to frick Cynder.

Even when I played these games as a teen I thought the story was easily the weakest part of the game
It was almost the exact same as the first one just with a few extra collectibles and a very slightly improved combat system. Hell, they outright recycled bosses from the first game, multiple times.
Blame toys for bob. They fricking squandered the remake. They cared more about making their scaly dragon daddies than actually making a great trilogy of remakes.
ah yes all those 6 year olds playing the game for artstyle. homie it was just 3d and you could collect things. no kid gave a penguin shit about some artstyle bullshit
It's mainly the art direction. But I also felt they were kinda lacking in anything worthwhile. To me a good remake should try to enhance the game beyond just better graphics. Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1+2 + Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled are great examples of remakes where you could feel the love being put into it by the developers.
Spyro Reignited felt very lukewarm. It plays pretty much the same but beyond that not much is really different. If anything it tend to feel worse since alot of the charm of the originals were just gone and in their place was nothing. Even something as simple as the main menu, just being a jpg that you choose which game to play just felt so dead. It felt like they were more focused on every dragon in 1 having a unique design over the smaller details that really tie everything together.

Even Naughty Dog realized that Crash 1's challenge was way too high, which Jason Rubin admits too, which is why, while challenging, 2 and 3 aren't on the level of challenge as the first game
too much stuff to collect and it isn't fun to collect stuff. but it's optional stuff so can just skip collecting everything.
otherwise i found the game pretty decent fun
It takes time to make a classic Spyro while also exploiting current gen consoles, Spyro 4 is probably going to have huge areas for different minigames and quests without portals as in Year of the Dragon
all I'm saying is that I played Spyro when I was 6 years old, I had lots of fun, but I have never felt the need to play Spyro again since becoming an adult.
Why haven't you grown up? We're literally talking about a game where you sprint around to collect brightly-colored shapes in a nonthreatening Disney-style fantasy setting. What's wrong with you?

It pretty much pushed the PS1 to its limit in terms of raw power didn't it?
Hopefully not. They'd probably ruin it. If they're not going to go back to 1's design philosophy with 2's gameplay improvements (like abilities) then I'd rather not have another game. Minigames and extra characters ruin replayability tbh
based
2 is great, but only because of the double jump glitch making it feel like 1 at times. I genuinely couldn't even have fun playing 3, it was a slog through and through
pretty levels aren't good levels, I didn't say 3 was ugly. I did enjoy a sparse few, but the vast majority are genuinely awful, whether it be shitty circular level design, small maps with portals or the fricking minigames
>Furies for bob touch Spyro >Kill the IP forever >Get given Crash because they can't be trusted with anything >Also kill the IP forever
Never trust furies
Its not helped at all that unlike Crash, Spyro never took off in Japan, since the ports of Spyro 1 and 2 were complete trash
Awful camera, Spyro moves slower, and charging doesn't have him run as long as you hold the button, and more of short bursts, which follows him into Spyro 2 where he can't move fast underwater besides small bursts, Sparx is also always green and doesn't change color, making it very hard to tell how much health you have left unless you look extremely close at the effects coming off of him
The Sparx things is only really a thing because they were pushing the Pocket Station in Japan, and you could raise other dragonflies who have abilities (which Sparx's upgrades in 3 are based on) that are all different colors
When Insomniac were developing Spyro, they were inspired by Mario 64, since they found movement to be very fun in that game, and wanted Spyro to feel fun to move around with, the Japanese version of the games aren't fun to move around in at all
Sony's Japanese team were extremely anal about how games should be for their releases, not feeling leaving western stuff as is would appeal to people over there, Crash got changed as well, so did a few other series
Spyro's movement changes were due to fears of "3D sickness" or motion sickness happening to Japanese people playing
But then you also have dumb shit like the signs everywhere in Spyro 1, that trigger by flaming them, when the game's controls are simple enough, and there's already dragons in the game to explain things to the player
some stupid bullshit about the 3d movement causing motion sickness. It was early 3d and the focus group they had were probably old as frick. Can't imagine why no one bothered to play it first to see if it was fun or not
i should've specified. when the last original spyro game was released. no re-releases/remakes etc >the last time he was playable in anything was Crash Team Racing-Nitro Fueled
Oof
The last console game to have the original Spyro was A Hero's Tail, but the last game with the original over all pre-remakes was the shitty DS game, Shadow Legacy
The previous actual-Spyro game before Reignited was the Legend of Spryo series. Skylanders isn't a Spyro game at all, it just features him as an optional playable character.
Yeah it's great. It's what they deserve after years of making Skylanders, fricking up reignited and then stealing a new crash from Vicarious and Beenox.
The debate on the futures of Crash and Spyro is one of the few times where I can recall that the cynical doomers are the ones being more irrational than the unshakeable faithful optimists. To give a quick rundown >Toys for Bob and Beenox loved working on Crash and Spyro >Microsoft gives their developers more freedom in being able to choose what they want to make. Banjo's creators not wanting anything to do with him because they lost their creative spark has nothing to do with Crash and Spyro's creators' feelings towards them. >Psychonaughts 2 was critically acclaimed so they clearly don't have any reservations about making platformers. >It has not been that long and few year long gaps are not uncommon between franchise entry releases. >Spyro, being the way he's designed, likely takes more time to work on than Crash.

ah yes all those 6 year olds playing the game for artstyle. homie it was just 3d and you could collect things. no kid gave a penguin shit about some artstyle bullshit

He said ONE OF the main selling pointS of the game, which is true, I see a lot of people praising Spyro for it's dream-like aesthetic.
yes, you see people saying that now, 20 years later
the "art style" was not one of the selling points of the game when it was actually being sold

1 got most of the effort and it shows, but 2 and 3 were always sort of janky.
2 and 3 are the ones people cared more about, for them to just be pushed aside for 1 felt really misguided. 1 is by far the worst of the original 3.
Maybe it's nostalgia but I also think the levels in 2 and 3 were so much better than the ones in 1. They had so much more to them.
What? 2's easily the weakest. 1 has the best design, with no backtracking or special abilities you need to buy.
given how Crash 4 turned out that's probably a good thing
what's the issue with crash 4?
you have to replay levels too many times
levels are way too long
the difficulty is too high
the extra characters are lame
the cutscenes are cringe
that's all true but the levels are pretty damn good
>difficulty is too high
i dont think this was a problem with the game anon
Not him, but it is if you're making a mascot platformer that's meant to appeal to everyone, and not just the losers here that need everything to be extremely hard
Even Naughty Dog realized that Crash 1's challenge was way too high, which Jason Rubin admits too, which is why, while challenging, 2 and 3 aren't on the level of challenge as the first game
spyro's are piss easy, which is fine because it's games aimed for little kids
Spyro is aimed for all ages as well, and was said they added in the missions in the sequels to be "extra challenge" for those looking at it
As a whole Spyro's design philosophy is pretty much a contrast to Crash's, as they're far more relaxed, but I wouldn't say that's a bad thing
too much stuff to collect and it isn't fun to collect stuff. but it's optional stuff so can just skip collecting everything.

Crash flopped, it's your fault.
Don't license the project out to people that are trying to make deviant art smut instead of a fun video game next time.
>Game is about dragons

The problem is Ganker contrarianism, "ree it's different so it's BAD"
It's not fricking contrarianism to not want baragay designs in a FRICKING SPYRO game

1 was already kino, 2 and 3 ruined it with dumb minigames, forced backtracking and alternate characters that all play worse
Superb taste. I feel like a Spyro 4 would have more character switching like the new Crash and lose that focus you mention. Plus, no Copeland no buy.
based
2 is great, but only because of the double jump glitch making it feel like 1 at times. I genuinely couldn't even have fun playing 3, it was a slog through and through
3 had some nice levels
pretty levels aren't good levels, I didn't say 3 was ugly. I did enjoy a sparse few, but the vast majority are genuinely awful, whether it be shitty circular level design, small maps with portals or the fricking minigames
>Furies for bob touch Spyro
>Kill the IP forever
>Get given Crash because they can't be trusted with anything
>Also kill the IP forever
Never trust furies
At this point, I've accepted that Spyro won't get anything beyond cameos in Crash's games
Like I get that Spyro doesn't sell to the levels of Crash, but from what I understand Spyro games still sell very well
>Spyro doesn't sell to the levels of Crash
Frick this gay earth
When Insomniac were developing Spyro, they were inspired by Mario 64, since they found movement to be very fun in that game, and wanted Spyro to feel fun to move around with, the Japanese version of the games aren't fun to move around in at all
Why would they even make the Japan version so different instead of just a simple translation?
there were concerns with motion sickness due to the game's movement speed and camera (spyro 1 honestly doesn't have a great camera)
Can't imagine why no one bothered to play it first to see if it was fun or not
when was the last spyro game made? I had the first one and loved it as a kid
Spyro Reignited, the last time he was playable in anything was Crash Team Racing-Nitro Fueled
i should've specified. when the last original spyro game was released. no re-releases/remakes etc
>the last time he was playable in anything was Crash Team Racing-Nitro Fueled
Oof
The last console game to have the original Spyro was A Hero's Tail, but the last game with the original over all pre-remakes was the shitty DS game, Shadow Legacy
Oof
The previous actual-Spyro game before Reignited was the Legend of Spryo series. Skylanders isn't a Spyro game at all, it just features him as an optional playable character.
Didn't the devs get sent to the CoD mines? No chance in hell now.
They are back on working on Wumpa League
Yeah it's great. It's what they deserve after years of making Skylanders, fricking up reignited and then stealing a new crash from Vicarious and Beenox.
>Beenox
They were the ones that shat out nverted stages in crash 4, and in that moment they lost my respect.
Activision is fricking dead
kek looks like pedophiles for bob has a reputation now.
The debate on the futures of Crash and Spyro is one of the few times where I can recall that the cynical doomers are the ones being more irrational than the unshakeable faithful optimists. To give a quick rundown
>Toys for Bob and Beenox loved working on Crash and Spyro
>Microsoft gives their developers more freedom in being able to choose what they want to make.
People don't want to buy filth like this. Its the kind of thing you have as a mod at some fan scene.
