She got on the Raymond train real quick.
Also, do Verguldians even have any distinct characteristics?
Even the "literally just Earthlings" races when it comes to appearance have some lore addons that make them distinct. Klausians like Cliff are naturally Ganker without working out and they have those gill-like tattoos on their necks. And Ellicoorians apparently have super kinetic magic vision that makes them visualize symbology currents.
I don't remember anything about Raymond's race other than the fact that they have a fetish for making sexy commercial robots.
Starting from SO5 onwards, they just kind of gave up on building lore that makes the protagonist races distinct from Earthlings.
Faykreedians and Asterians for example are literally just Earthlings that aren't from Earth. Guess you can add Verguldians to that pile too.
See >And Ellicoorians apparently have super kinetic magic vision that makes them visualize symbology currents.
And according to the SO3 materials book, they're distant offshoots of Nedians that fucked off to space during the Nedian Civil War billions of years ago.
Why would there be some kind of science based diversity of life forms when their universe is a 'this time for real' version of a shitty japanese vr game?
Why would there be some kind of science based diversity of life forms when their universe is a 'this time for real' version of a shitty japanese vr game?
Yeah but the laws of the universe were arbitrarily drawn up by game developers.
Finding the twist silly on a writing standpoint is fine and all, but I fucking swear every time someone takes the angle of: "Nothing matters or has to make sense because vidya" when it comes to it, I'm just gonna have to think that person is retarded.

Nah, I don't subscribe to the nothing matters angle. The universe of the characters is functionally real both before and after the event in 3 that made it "properly" real by separating it from higher dimension control. That's exactly why stuff does matter. But I don't think that universe needs realistic answers to game conventions when there's a diegetic "because it was a game" built in. Universe of mostly humans? Sure. That's what the creators preferred. Universe of one currency and shared items? Same deal etc.

Everyone sentient species conveniently being humanoid is a science convention as old as time.
Though if we're working on the SO universe rules alone, then we have ancient races like Nedians and Muah who spread across the galaxy eons ago. So it at least make sense that their descendants would be humanoid too.
It's pretty much just the good ol precursor race shebang.

If the Nedians really are the precursor race for most of the sentient species in the Galaxy, then it's hilarious to think that to think that an Ancient Nedian dropped to some bumfuck aquatic planet, saw fish there and thought to themselves: "God, I want to have sex with that fish."
Eventually resulting in the Vendeeni fish people civilization from SO3.

Wait, the Vendeeni were fish aliens? I thought that just had some whack space headgear or something.

Literal Space Sharks apparently.
From the SO3 in-game dictionary >A sentient race living on the planet Vendeen. First contact with the Vendeeni occurred in the year 710 SD. The Vendeeni are descended from a shark-like cartilaginous fish, and their skin is very pale from the back down to the waist. Although the Vendeeni are one of the few races with technology rivaling that of the Pangalactic Federation and the Aldian Empire, they rarely interact with outsiders and much of Vendeeni technology is still shrouded in mystery.

>If the Nedians really are the precursor race for most of the sentient species in the Galaxy
The historical data entries indicate that Nede was getting fucked by the rebelling planets they had previously subjugated before they closed themselves off, so there are probably a number of other spacefaring races from back then that also propagated throughout the universe. But then it's hard to even think about that without also thinking about how ridiculous it is that 3.7 billion years passed and humanity was somehow able to catch up after a few thousand years.
I guess the scorps in 6 at least sort of address that issue.

Nedians aren't even the oldest "precursor" race that we know about. There's still that religious order that invented Symbology and spread it around before apparently disappearing. Nedians didn't create Symbology- they were just so advanced with it that they figured out how to carve Symbols into their own DNA so that they wouldn't need to bother with the tattoo shit that everyone else does.

reminder these same people who hate the twist all probably basedface irl over the "our universe is a simulation" gobbledyasiatic
Ignoring the fact that you're probably just trying to raise shit by intentionally acting like a dumbass, I'll get to your level and ask, why the fuck can a fictional world not have world building? Hell, might as well ask why tons of MMOs offer different race options while you're at it?
No one said it couldn't, and that post didn't suggest anything of the sort. Maybe you should learn to read before questioning anyone else's mental faculties.
Verguldians are humans. They are just an old earth colony not rulled by the Federation. Unlike say the Klausian which are aliens that are Almost human.
>They are just an old earth colony not rulled by the Federation
Oh cool, and that actually makes sense considering their tenuous relationship with the Feds. Where was this stated though? The dictionary? Or some sidequest I didn't do?
I honestly didn't go as much into SO6 as I did the other games.
I thought it was casualy mentioned in a mission. Maybe the dictionary? I have to go back and check. I havent touched it since getting destroyed by the Queen on the last level of the dungeon round 2
>I don't remember anything about Raymond's race other than the fact that they have a fetish for making sexy commercial robots.
Elena is the best girl. >TFW you will never have a wifey robot first officer
For me, it was a culmination of things >The general consensus of "There hasn't been a good SO since 2!" >squeenix >$60 price point >Denuvo
I figured I'd wait for it to go on sale. For the average nonweeb normie, it probably looks like another JRPG among many. Without more hardcore fans trumpeting how good it is (if it is indeed good), the sales numbers won't be that good.
I don't have all the sales numbers in front of me, but at least on Steam SO2R is doing pretty well considering it's a 20-year-old remake. That's probably a good sign. Maybe we'll get a proper blue sphere.

It's kind of hard to really tell or trust when a game series is finally good again after getting burned. After a point you don't even get angry you just lose interest so you might forget it's even out. In any case, I'd say 6 is certainly well worth getting, especially now on the cheap. I might have a case of "Honeymoon eyes" but I think I'd even say it might be one of my favorites in the series.
I wish I could use celine but meteor swarm doesnt work cause light absorb and i cant keep my formation bonus for anything to negate it
i wanted to ask too is there any source of resurrection potion in game? I got 20 from preordering but I wont use them unless there is, I dont see a way to make them in any of my stuff
Nta but i had one ok run where I could've won, i decided to go grind to 255 first though cause why not, (i was like 130 before?)
my strategy is to not survive, im just trying to get a stagger on iseria via a crazy knockup stunlock off the first 5 seconds and kill her in a single stagger, with her dead gabrielle should be real easy
2 things, I stacked the ever living shit out of avoid, % increases are additive with each other but I esentially had 60% avoid on each character.
Even with that though living a full cross beam was a coin flip so it really required me to play patiently. It's actually why I choose earnest, bed of roses can be used anywhere on the screen and it will pop on exactly where the mob is instantly, so I largely stayed the fuck away.
If characters died I'd abuse the angels ai to where they feel they have to "finish" an attack to move on to next target and kited them while I waited for item cooldowns to come back.
That was way, way easier than the solo fight against Celeste. Did it on my first try. The start of the fight didn't save though so fuck me I guess. Thanks OBS.
Precis kind of manhandles the double fight as well as Barrier can both stop spin and put them in a light juggle where she can keep them until they break
Yes. The Morphus of EN II are heavily implied to be a faction of Nedians that fucked off during the civil war and are ashamed of their race's warmongering history but not so ashamed that they turned themselves into Galactic NEET shut-ins.
It's hilarious.
I can only imagine how the Nedian Schism went all those years ago.
>GUYS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN ATONE FOR OUR SINS IS TO BLOW UP OUR PLANET AND ISOLATE OURSELVES IN WHATEVER REMAINS OF IT FOR ALL ETERNITY >Uhm, yeah you do that. We'll just hit up the Space 7/11 for some milk and come back to join you guys
>The story was pretty cool back in 1998. Seeing surprise 10 space niggas, an entire planet exploding, and tournament arc wasn't as cliche back then.
no, it most definitely was cliche back then zoomer
You're a fucking retard. The 90's was the peak of tournament arc, it wasn't cliche when yu yu hakusho did it in 95 and it still wasn't cliche when naruto did it in 2002. Shut the fuck up retard.
I was invested in the story until Rena acted like a retard. Then the 10 dudes and their awesome designs pulled me back in, then the story turned into a complete fucking wet fart after Claude's dad died and I got bored of it.
>Claude, did I ever tell you about Pericci? She was a teenage alien catgirl sex slave your mother and I encountered on our heroic adventure on Roak, a fine piece of jailbait from a more civilized age. She had the tightest body and the perkiest little breasts in the galaxy; barely legal in most systems.
>Your uncle Roddick and I used to doubleteam her at the end of every successful fight on Roak, and once in a while we’d even have the entire Astral Knights battalion run a train over her, part of official Fellpool “training” of course. In time, she learned how to handle a longsword better than anyone in the party. She wore a skintight leotard every day so we told her there were no panties in space, and since she was constantly doing acrobatics you’d get a glimpse of her pussycat cameltoe mid fight as she’d do a flip while slicing a Dragon Axe in half. It was surreal.
>We taught her to grip her precious Ocarina like a dildo and she constantly got captured by pirates and slavers almost every other day. It was ridiculous, like a constant porno Claude, you have no idea. And she was a good friend.
>Ashton
Could you make him into a Claude-like normal attack unga bunga? I know there are more 'optimal' characters to field (Precis), but I really want to bring the dour little fucker on my Rena playthrough.
I’ve read that most of his issues stems from the delay in his special move starting up and the cooldown between his spam along with sword dance losing hitstuns.
Oh I know that, I just went by testimony that earnest still had a lot of problems but was better. But Bed of Roses perhaps is one of the best break tools in the game against the hyper mobile super bosses along with being incredibly safe to maintain bonus meter, and thousand tails is some pretty good damage.
Man, between enemy symbols and bodyguard the cave of trials is a total joke now. >Couple door talks about using the transfers to speed things up
There's not even any point to needing to explore from top to bottom now, so it's just as well that they allow it.
Adding to this, the remake really fucks up any sense of triumph you get from completing it. In the original you had a huge maze full of random encounters with strong enemies and no save points, just getting to the final boss was a huge undertaking. Then you beat her and get to walk all the way back up with all battles disabled and that music carrying you as you go.
With the remake completely trivialising the dungeon exploration aspect that feeling is just totally gone. It probably would've helped if they made it so enemy symbols have a much bigger range before they turn green, which they were for my entire trip through the area. I'm not sure I ever saw a red symbol throughout the entire game.
I don't have a lot of time to play this game so what's the best way to cheese so non-story content and battles take less time?
(I know of the skill that decrease the price of the other skills but not much of everything else)
What should be my warpath for breaking the game open? I already have a path for picking up my party members but I want to crack this game open over my knee and eat it out with IP shit.
Tell me what I need to do.
I wish the characters interactions changed depending on their affection levels. It makes any pairing but Claude and Rena for example, feel like the 'wrong' choice since shes still all like "OHHHH I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU CLAUDE" later on even if hes not the top.
I enjoyed the game. 8/10. A couple of things I don't like.
-IC system breaks the sense of progression, the combat is solved once you abuse it. The initial part of figuring it out feels good though.
-Miss timing dodge breaks sphere bonus makes me don't dodge ever. I no longer make the habit of dodging shit.
-Remaking equipment is RNG tedium, makes me don't bother with the post game dungeon. It's essentially waste hours remaking items to get through the maze.
>-IC system breaks the sense of progression, the combat is solved once you abuse it. The initial part of figuring it out feels good though.
skill issue
agreed the rest
>-Miss timing dodge breaks sphere bonus makes me don't dodge ever. I no longer make the habit of dodging shit.
The blindside in this game is very high risk but also very high reward. I like how it's optional to beat the game though.
1 is fine.
The SNES version is technically impressive and has Robert Belgrade voice a character.
First Departure/R is just diet Star Ocean 2.
3 you can emulate.
4 has a native pc port it's also debatedly the worst game in the series
5 is on PS4 and I think PS3 and is debatedly the second worse game in the series
6 has a native PC port
It's a good game but it has some piss poor characters and awkward interactions with a few questionable plot points. Best combat in the series and you get to visit 7 different planets/satellites so I'm happy.
Okay but it's still one of the worst games in the series and fucked the series so badly that 5 suffered from it

No? If 4 had truly fucked the series over then fans would have been wary of 5 and it would have sold far less than it actually did. 5 was fucked because Tri Ace tried to do way more than their budget could afford, on top of SE being notoriously stingy with non FF/DQ brands back then.

It's simply not good. It's the last Star Ocean with an actual budget, but that doesn't make it a good video game. Both SO5 and 6 did more than SO4 with much more limited means.

Arguing over 4 and 5 is not an argument where there's a winner. Both game blow. They blow for different reasons. But they both blow all the same.
I still don't see what people see in the combat of 4. Seriously, have I just been playing it wrong or something? Because at the very least, Edge is pretty awkward to control and even though being able to hit knocked down enemies is nice, the game doesn't feel right. I don't know what it is but the animations and the feeling of attacks landing is just horrible compared to something like 3.

Meracle was fucking weird for me too, but to be fair I only tried her in one fight. I don't know, maybe there's skills that make the game more fun that I didn't reach, maybe I wasn't trying hard enough, I just felt like the game up to that point, I had no idea what was going on in fights. I didn't use Blindside much because it felt sort of annoying to try to use. It was like you had to predict when your opponent would attack you a second before they actually did attack, and you'd have to stand still doing nothing, hoping they actually would target you.

maybe a difference in playstyles, or like you said not finding the exact right skills that click
I was just blindsiding and clowning on enemies all days with meracle and it was a miracle
>are all the games on PC/emulatable?
You can emulate 1 and 3. 4 and 6 have PC ports. You'll need a PS4 if you want to play 5 but I'd say it's considered by most to be the worst game at this point so you probably aren't missing much
>i don't think this fills out the enemy encyclopedia though which you need for opera's best weapon
you can't fill in the entire enemy encyclopedia during 1 run since some enemies are path specific
Anyone else just craft all the foods and just keep them in your inventory without ever using it, except for the pickpocket/contraband foods?
You know it's just easier to sell all the food you will never need so you can find the food you actually WANT to eat easier.
Top 3 things that make 4 bearable.
1). Reimi's ass
2). Meracle's vagina being on full display like goddamn how the hell did Tri-Ace get away with that.
3). Bacchus
>2). Meracle's vagina being on full display like goddamn how the hell did Tri-Ace get away with that.
not true unless you can prove it with pictures please
My sister-in-law walked in on me playing SO4 once and of course the PA where Meracle sits on Edge's lap was playing. And I had to awkwardly say "haha japan right?"
Anyway I haven't seen my niece in a very long time. No idea if it's related.
How come I sometimes eat shit and die from a single attack even from weak enemies? Every now and then they'll do 100% of my HP in damage and I'm not sure what's causing it but I've gotten a game over 5 times outside Harley now.
Buy better gear. At level 20 I'm assuming you're barely into Lacuer right? The merchants near you should have better gear for you to put on. But given you've rejected Celine if you're not picking up precious you've still got a good amount of pain in your future.
>Buy better gear.
I can't. I'm wearing the best gear I can get. >At level 20 I'm assuming you're barely into Lacuer right?
I'm trying to GET to Laceur but every random encounter instantly kills me.
Alright. You should be able to make blue talismans now. Rena can craft them with crafting 3 and an alchemist can make them at alchemy 3

I saw red symbols once on floor 3 and grinded on floor 2 for them to go away. The level by level progression in regards to keeping the PC current felt rather decent as somebody who fights every fight.
>with strong enemies and no save points
Bit of a misnomer
The enemies certainly were "strong" in raw attributes but at that point in the game...
The most dangerous enemy were >dreamshades
as doing them normally on universe was basically completely RNG unless you used THE TECHNIQUE >99 thieves
Because their ambush was basically a guaranteed restart
and floor 10 in general >Because gulp slugs mixed with dreamshades in rooms that nuke your health and mp is a good way to lose instantly.
>I hope you weren't running a full melee team ufuufuufuu.
Or something like that.
2 mage 2 fighter handles that
Since you also don't want to be caught with your pants down when you fight shit that suppresses your skills
Ernest is actually really good in this remake. People just don't mention him much because he was shit in the original game (so people assume he will be here), and because he's kind of a pain in the ass to get. Most people playing blind will end up getting Ashton and lock themselves out of Opera and Ernest, and Ernest is pretty easy to miss on top of that since you need to go back to the Sacred Forest with Opera for no reason before finishing an unrelated dungeon, or you lose him forever.
He's worth it, though. Thousand Tails chews through enemy shields, and since enemies are harder to stun it's really nice that his attacks have a lot of reach. He's not in as much danger of getting hit back while in the middle of a combo as Claude or Ashton are. He's got some fun PAs too. Back in the PSX days I think I played SO2 four or five times altogether, and I only bothered recruiting Ernest once, but this remake made me really like him.
>I think they should have added a block button instead.
Block buttons are usually a good idea for any ARPG. Make your block break and you get stunned if you try to turtle all the time and viola, perfectly balanced.
Yeah you have to let up off the attack and potentially get hit just for a bit of shield damage and mp recovery. Either give us more stun time or reduce the penalties.
1/4 of a shield is pretty good really, the real problem is that fights are simply too fast and chaotic before long for this to really matter in any meaningful way
i cant even see the enemy half the time i couldnt possibly time a dodge
They also put you behind the enemy and you have restored MP so it's guaranteed killer move spam damage. It's pretty strong and I thought it was balanced properly to be honest.
No. Galaxy is fine for a first playthrough. Universe is meant for people who are familiar with how to exploit the games many systems and break it over their knee.
There are two gigantic fish in fishpedia.
It was pretty easy to find first one. What's about second one? This ?
Also is there any reason to keep them instead of selling them instantly? You can't exchange Tokuirokkaku for anything.
So tell me if I'm retarded or If I got the whole underlying political plot of SO2 correctly.
The official story is that Nedians were the benevolent and totally cool rulers of the universe and that they definitely respected everyone's rights. But then the Wisemen came along and ruined things. And to be heroes, the Nedians sacrificed their civilization to seal the Wisemen.
So, that's the official story in history books. But it's been pointed out in Chisato's investigations and PA events that every fucking data log tells the exact same and uncharacteristically brief story. And there should've been more details or at least slightly alternative perspectives or documentations of the events. But no, there aren't.
In reality, the Nedians were a militaristic space dictatorship that ruled with an iron fist. And the Wisemen were basically their Space Marine program to put down all uprisings and the races that went against them. But going 120% Space Hitler actually didn't go well with some Nedians and this caused a civil war. And the clusterfuck with the already subjugated races on top of it all ended up killing Philia, daughter of the head of the Nedian Space Marine program. In his grief, the head of the program turned himself into the last Wiseman, Gabriel and reprogrammed all the other to cause universal genocide instead of domination. After this, history as it's been told continues, but they conveniently left the part where Nedians being space fascists caused all this shit and just pinned all of the blame on the Wisemen.
Also, at some point, Gabriel created a cyborg(?) version of his dead daughter that also serves as his system limiter or something? But I kinda checked out at that point.
Not sure if Philia is a cyborg or just clone with her memories since the data log only mention Lantis having the brain pattern of himself and daughter uploaded. Still if he can do that then him chimping out to destroy the universe is a bit of an overreaction unless the Nedians are that much of assholes that Lantis deem that destroying the fucking universe is totally justified.
I mean he could have fucked off and be a godking as Gabriel and make his own space Lantistown, with blackjack and wisewomen!
Imagine Rena, but in the evil fascist Nedian era.
Only a homosexual would imagine her in military wear and calling you a subhuman non-nedian mongrel that should be under her heel haha.
Jokes aside, if she really was born in that era, she would definitely be on the side of the Nedians that went: "Hey guys, I think going Space Hitler is bad actually."
That Ethereal Queen fight in 6 was definitely drawn out for me, but I played that lame as fuck. I just set down some bells with Nina and kept running away, maybe I'd revive someone if I had the time. I was shitting my pants when the clones showed up.
You can blow her up still but I only tried it second time around. Marielle is probably the best because she has the close range and back attack damage modifiers, and her bootleg Shotgun Blast does retarded damage for some reason.
I never want to see ethereal queen or Baal again. I fucking groan every game how hard is some originality like SO2s Gabriel? The same pinnacle fight every time really pisses me off and it doesn't get criticized nearly enough.
Is there even anything this would be good for?
I guess if you had Ernest you could acquire 10 battle suits to remake them all at once, but I can't think of anything else.
>Gets laser weapon that can change into a bunch of different weapons for each attack. >Fists of fury >Loyal robutt wife with jiggle physic titties and shiny ass.
She's the best girl.
This franchise has a weird force field around it that’s left it essentially untouched by the standards of “modern audiences.” The new game has a slutty underage healer and a sex robot. And this remake is COMPLETELY untouched. How did they get away with it?
If anything that makes it more inappropriate. tri-Ace gave their young and childish healer girl huge tits and bulging thighs. The current year is a spook to them. It’s like they’re still in the 2000s. And I hope they stay like this.
>devs "Don't worry guys, the new crafting system is great! You can craft 10 items at a time and the UI shows you what you can craft!" >"What about remaking?"
Yeah, you don't have to worry about alchemy, blacksmithing, replication, contraband or any of that shit taking forever while you spam Orchestra every time for the best results. They took all that tedium out of those skills and put it all into remaking. I spent a good hour or so yesterday fucking around with remaking to get the 20% health steal on 4 of my guy's weapons.
>2 minutes for 20 remakes
you work faster than me I guess? I can be a little choosey with the stuff I feed into it. I wasn't 100% sure on the method for certain outputs, I just kept feeding it armor but I didn't want to blindly feed it stuff that I wanted to keep.
Well I was able to get Ashton. But what is recommended level for the mines? 20lvl Rena and 15lvl Claude and Celine are absolutely useless against enemies here.
The only thing I got left is double angel group battle and the unknown group battle and I guess I'm done
What an incredible time, knowing the original inside+out made it all go way smoother but universe was honestly balanced well for that for the most part
I do wish the endgame was less of a fucking BLINK AND YOU EXPLODE situation but I guess that's Star Ocean 2 endgame at the end of the day
The remake itself is really good though i think ultimately i prefer the originals combat and music (and some backgrounds), but the musics an option in this game and literally everything else is better really
>Find out that there's a Contraband item that makes any upgrade that costs BP essentially free for one time >It can't be Replicated, but it's not even that hard to make
Sword Bomber costs 650 BP to upgrade? How about 2? Is that reasonable?
It takes a while, the first planet you land on is essentially a tutorial and the second is where shit starts to happen. Crafting in that game is also a lot more annoying to get started with, but there's broken stuff before the end of the first disc at least.
Sweet summer child. AFAIK, SO3 doesn't really have any "broken shit" at least not in the same way SO1 & 2 did. SO3 is where they abandoned the skill system from 1 and 2 and focused on battling more. There's item crafting but it's not done by the player or their party so much as random crafters you find throughout your journey. It's weird.
What the fuck? Do the other games go back to SO1/2 crafting at least?
To my knowledge, no. 1 & 2 are the only games that have in-depth non-combat related skills you can invest in.
You can get laser weapons and put atack factors to break the game but it takes a really long time and you have to spend a lot of time using guides to make anything that isn't worthless.
[...]
4 and 5 IC is pretty weak. 6 has the closest IC to SO2, they let you break that game autistically.
I wouldn't know, I never even beat SO3, I just remember thinking "I don't like the new crafting system." >6 has the closest IC to SO2
I'd be curious to see what it offers. Does it have other stuff like familiar, training, scouting, art, and other less combat-focused crafting/skills? That stuff is mostly fluff but it's (to me) what gives SO1 & 2 that "sovl".
It doesn't have everything of course since the game doesn't have the skills but have the specialty instead. All of the functions still work the same way though. Writing, alchemy, smithing, compounding, crafting, and engineering work exactly the same as their previous counterparts.
It's been decades since I last played, but if I'm not mistaken you choose your crafting type and then the game gives you a price. The item you get is already determined at this point and you just roll the success or fail chance. In some cases, these prices can overlap one another too.
I think you can piece together that you either need a guide or spend an ungodly amount of time cataloguing those price ranges to get what you want.

4 and 5 IC is pretty weak. 6 has the closest IC to SO2, they let you break that game autistically.
I remember using attack+500 x7 laser weapons around the time Maria joins and just manhandling everything with Scatter Beam-Aiming Device until end game.
All group battles, unlimited Gabriel, the maze, Devils Aria, everyone at level cap, 85% of the items, nearly all enemies, all raids, all on universe start to finish
As a big fan of the original this is the most fun I've had with a game since I dunno when even
Looking forward to revisiting next year probably for a Claude playthrough
Maybe it's been so long, but I was quite certain that from SO3 onwards, all Tri-Ace games had Gabriel Celeste at some flamboyant yet still somewhat Ganker dude. And then there's the Radiata Stories version of him.
SO1 and 2 use a different design that looks like a woman with Iseria Queen using the same sprite, then 3 through 6 used the new design that looks like a tanned dude with Iseria Queen looking closer to the old design.
I just noticed though that the name is fucked up, in SO2R they called her Gabriella, then it's Gabriel in later entries, but the Japanese name is ガブリエ, which is separate to SO2's boss Gabriel whose name is ガブリエル. They probably changed it to Gabriella in SO2 to avoid doubling up with the story boss' name because the idea of more than one character sharing a name is anathema to localisers, but they should probably never have been called Gabriel in the first place.
If you're fighting the bird then I assume you have at least Ashton on your team, so at least 2 fighters, if you only have Claude+Ashton I'd encourage you to try playing as Rena and joining the melee, you basically wanna pin it down as hard as possible and break it, rely on items to heal, dont feel bad if people die thats just how the game is, throw resurrection bottle with wild abandon
Both the original and First Departure are pretty different and very worth playing.
First Departure is closer to SO2 gameplay while the original is really unique and one of the most impressive SNES games period.
Do I need to have played the first game to enjoy this one?
No. They are all set in the same universe, share some characters (Claude is the kid of an important SO1 character for example), and do have references to events of other games, but it's all just "Oh I've heard that name before!" type fanservice. You won't miss any plot points, it's all just overarching world building where the order you play the games in doesn't even matter.
No. Claude is the son of one of SO1's party members. That's the only connection. Maybe there's some other references I'm forgetting, but none of it is more than a reference.
No not really.
All you need to know is that Claude's father broke several laws to save an entire planet and gets away with it scott free because fuck you he's a Kenny
>like 10 hours in and not even done with the Krosse continent, only just recruited Ashton and haven't done his sidequest yet
Been a long time since I've had fun with video games. Universe isn't nearly as bad as I expected, fighting Allen in his rape dungeon was probably the hardest part of the game so far. Also, was this some kind of Japanese joke that didn't translate? I thought it was just a typo but the English VA even pronounces it "permanamently"
>Also, was this some kind of Japanese joke that didn't translate?
If I were to be generous I'd say there could be an attempt at humour in the choice of him saying "キズモノ" in the sense of being unmarriageable rather than disfigured, but I couldn't say how natural inferring that secondary meaning would be. For what it's worth I tried looking at a few Japanese streams / LPs and not a single one commented on it even if they had plenty to say otherwise. It could be the case that the localisers looked too much into it and thought there was a joke when there wasn't. Or it was just localisers fucking with it for whatever reason. I didn't even notice that in the English script until you pointed it out.
The PSX translation doesn't have such a thing either.
Actually I found this guy who starts joking about Ashton's responsibility dialogue sounding like BL talk (directed at Claude), so maybe there is something to it.
?t=1240
But that's a very different kind of joke to the English script just making him mispronounce a word.
But I kinda want to replay as Claude and go with only Rena the entire game, i think it might be fun to see combat slowed down and with the dmg cap removed it should be ok
I'd rather play 4 ten more times than play 5 or even 3 to be honest. Both of those games are trash. At least 4 had good gameplay and SO1 SOVL. Roak is based and seeing felpools and featherfolks again was kino.
I just read that Precis has a LOT of PAs if you pair her with Ashton and Welch and even gets a special unique move from one of them, is that worth doing? I really don't care for Ashton and Welch doesn't fit the game well at all in my opinion... I do really like Precis though.
I'd this the ugliest game of the year? I think it's even worse than Starfield. The clash between the sprites and backgrounds with cheap overlay effects is terrible looking.
This is something I am not a fan of with how returning to Expel works now. Feels a bit shit that you could now have some PAs you can't see until post-game
>romance Opera >become wealthy and husband to a high influencial woman >romance Rena >get to impregnate a teenage space elf
There is only one right answer and it’s space elf every fucking time.
I’d like to know this too, but according to anon it’s not possible to brick your save or anything.
You can get every skill. At worst you'd be "suboptimal", but whatever who cares as long as you're having fun.
The ONLY skill I'd say to go for first is the SP reducing skill at the top of the IC skill page, other than that, do as you please.
I’d like to know this too, but according to anon it’s not possible to brick your save or anything.
No. There's absolutely nothing you can fuck up.
You get points to put into those skills every battle. It's not necessary and you will eventually max everything out during the postgame anyways, but if you really wanted to you could grind and max every single specialty before even doing Krosse Cave.
The only thing that's missable are Private Actions and Events with the Hourglass icon on the map and party members. For the former just regularly check if you have anything to do, and for the later you might or might not want to look up who the choices are and who is mutually exclusive and plan it out ahead of time... or not - depending on just how blindly you want to play the game I guess.
Rena is good, she's just a teenage girl and her first romance is a depressed isekai protagonist that's obsessively protective and scared shitless of her leaving him.
Shit like this reminds me of Symphonia where some call the relationship system the ‘Lloydbowl’ because somebody will end up winning it based on decisions made in the game (including his dad, a flamboyant womanizer, and a 40 year old man you met not long ago) and it always makes me giggle.
I wish more games had this.
She knows she's adopted.
Her adopted father is dead.
Dias was pretty much her older brother growing up.
So for Rena, she puts extreme value on the few members of her found family due to emotional scars from knowing that she was abandoned by her biological family.
This is not a difficult concept to grasp.
It was a different time where the percived love interest was allowed to have emotions and connections with other people than the MC.
Something I drastically miss. NTR becoming popular was one of the worst fucking things to ever happen to jap fiction writing.
The second worst being Isekai.
Isekai is fine. It's literally one of the oldest JP fiction setups. Hell, all SO games are technically isekai if you get down to it. And the first SO game came out around the time of the likes of El Hazard and Escaflowne were popular, other big Isekai series at the time. And you can see lots of cross influences between the stuff that came out in that era.
The problem is that most brain dead modern writers (and consumers) just latch on to the game world setup isekai. For a narrative and worldbuilding setup with tons of possibilities, dozens upon dozens of them just utilize the fucking mad libs version of it for some goddamn reason.
Maybe I’ve got a thorn in my side. I feel like I see nothing but Isekai these days as a cheap form of setting instead of just making a normal fantasticals setting interesting.
Though as far as I can tell with the few hours I have in it, it might be more appropriate to call SO2 a fish out of water story unless Claude is in a whole toher dimension and not just a different planet.
episode 1 >oh, i am overpowerd
episode 2 >"you are my master, please suck on my big titties"
episode 3 >kills the end boss
episode 4 >joining the guild with the lowest rang
episode 5 >introduction of the girl who nobodys like
episode 6 >filler episode with nothing going on
episode 7 >another enemy pops up, stronger than MC
episode 8 >hottube/beach/bikiny episode
episode 9 >the final battle starts
episode 10 >still final battle with flash backs
episode 11 >biggest magic attack of the MC
episode 12 >nothing, just slice of life afterworld stuff
now that im looking at the series as a whole, the worst games in the series are definitely 4 and 5, but not like the entire games, theres bits and bobs and huge pain points in both games. like the blindside system in 4 being fucking garbage to control and the stupid ass gimmick grigori bosses, overall the combat in 4 feels like a worse 3 where they tried to do new things for the sake of trying. not being able to control when you guard in a game where you can constantly get juggled to death and or picked back up into a combo after getting up from the ground whether you wake up attack or not is frustrating as fuck. i dont mind the story or characters(dub or sub). people shit on lymle but her interactions with faize were great imo.
so5 though, why the fuck is fidel a worse fayt in amost every aspect? like i have no hatred for that character but he got dealt a terrible hand by the devs when it comes to being unique as an mc attack wise. why is the only useful attack in his entire movelist fucking double slash? you can legitimately max out double slash and ignore the rest of the attacks you learn from leveling and just soam that shit. WHY DOES HE HAVE ETHERIAL BLAST AS HIS BIG MOVE? it makes no sense in and out of story. the role system for party ai feels like it could have been really good if they tweaked/expanded on it for future entries.
with every game after 3 it feels like the devs listen to some dumbfuck vocal minorities about complaints and just abandon stuff that could have been probably improved and reused in sequels. im also assuming after 3 or 4 a lot of the og tri ace team probably didnt work for square anymore. i recently found out the team(gemdrops) that worked on the remaster has a lot of ex tri ace devs on it? it makes sense that so2r is good if thats the case.
>not being able to control when you guard in a game where you can constantly get juggled to death and or picked back up into a combo after getting up from the ground whether you wake up attack
This is literally a bigger problem in 3 because AAA is worthless. You literally have zero control over when to use it because it requires 100% fury and the only time you have 100% is when you're literally just standing. You can't even walk or AAA won't work.
It's crazy that you're complaining about things that are a bigger problem in 3 while praising 3.
>AAA is worthless
It works on basically every enemy in the game which can be exploited all the way up to Freya. Anything that can actually guard break is telegraphed and Fury regens extremely quickly.
>It works
It doesn't work when your fury is below 100. You can't use AAA when you've just finished doing a combo or even just a single attack. You literally can't even walk and rely on AAA.
Not in a relationship sense but I actually like Dias and Rena's dynamic. I've always dug stoic detached older dude that only has a soft spot for pure hearted young girl shoujoshit. I can't really think of many examples of it in vidya.
For SO2R they boosted Arena Dias' HP by like 1000x and once you get him low enough he will get really fucking fast, have superarmor, and start dealing 50k dmg a hit.
Since they take your gear you can't use any cheesy shit so it's impossible, even if you grinded to lv255 he'd just one shot you faster than you can dodge hits once he gets low.
Claude for sci fi Star Trek quasi-harem shenanigans, Rena for lost elf princess otome game reverse harem shenanigans. Claude will probably give a better understanding of what the fuck is actually going on early on but it's not like it's hard to guess
The story doesn't differ much between characters, it's just perspective. There's also 2 exclusive companions, Claude gets a shota catboy and Rena gets the *Nothing Personnel* rival character. The characters can get with pretty much everyone else but some are purely platonic, mostly for when it makes sense like Bowman who's married

I’ve seen so much “I want to fuck Space Elf Pussy” and “Can I romance her” in these threads the past week that I genuinely have to ask myself if gamers are just starved for good Waifu and Rena is what is catching on, despite being a 90’s waifu.
Good god.
i see a cute elf and my brain just wants to do the Human Male thing and breed her

Good god.
You are not wrong.
I feel like the last waifu I can remember actually liking is Sheena in Symphonia.
Sexy as fuck. Cute personality, and doesn’t give a fuck about her sex appeal.

It’s barely even there.
It also anazes me that Sheena remains one of the bustiest Tales girls too.
I started playing 6 because I liked this one and it's pretty decent 5 hours in, like it more than 4 for sure
A bit annoyingly linear
The character designs are really wacky, like some JoJo looking muscle wizard, a literal sexbot, the most busty 15 year old I've seen in a game released after 2020 and I could go on
For me, it was a culmination of things >The general consensus of "There hasn't been a good SO since 2!" >squeenix >$60 price point >Denuvo
>$60 price point
This complaint is disingenuous. I only ever see it made about Japanese games.
>keep the kenny bloodline pure
sorry pic related is a septaroon and shes better for it
ronyx has blue hair, we're still in the clear
Guess you can add Verguldians to that pile too.
>so5 onwards
how are elicoorians any different than humans
See
>And Ellicoorians apparently have super kinetic magic vision that makes them visualize symbology currents.
And according to the SO3 materials book, they're distant offshoots of Nedians that fucked off to space during the Nedian Civil War billions of years ago.
I'm sure all the other human-likes have some arbitrary "can hear high frequency sounds" gimmick or some shit
Why would there be some kind of science based diversity of life forms when their universe is a 'this time for real' version of a shitty japanese vr game?
Because it's a real world within their own universe.
From the SO3 in-game dictionary
>A sentient race living on the planet Vendeen.
SO3's OST was pretty fucking wild
>Super emotional and traumatic scene where a character died
>Boss Battle starts to immediately avenge that character
>SO DANCE GET INTO TRANCE
>WORK THAT BODY WORK THAT BODY
We've seen the people and society who created the universe. They were degenerate lazy shitters.
I havent touched it since getting destroyed by the Queen on the last level of the dungeon round 2
> gill-like tattoos on their necks
Wait what.
Huh. It really is there. Guess it was one of those shit that was barely visible on PS2 models.
there not tatoos. all Klausians are born with three bands around their neck
>I don't remember anything about Raymond's race other than the fact that they have a fetish for making sexy commercial robots.
Elena is the best girl.
>TFW you will never have a wifey robot first officer
Yo new Elena fan art. Finally!
It's criminal how little attention 6 got. It's actually pretty gosh darn good.
For me, it was a culmination of things
>The general consensus of "There hasn't been a good SO since 2!"
>squeenix
>$60 price point
>Denuvo

It's kind of hard to really tell or trust when a game series is finally good again after getting burned. After a point you don't even get angry you just lose interest so you might forget it's even out. In any case, I'd say 6 is certainly well worth getting, especially now on the cheap. I might have a case of "Honeymoon eyes" but I think I'd even say it might be one of my favorites in the series.
How do her robot tits actually feel like?
Did Raymond ever actually feel them just out of sheer curiosity?
MASSIVE robot tits.
Elena is a miracle of the universe
Star Ocean 3 exists, so nothing matters, fuck you
No one on this board will beat iseria queen/super gabe on universe difficulty without bloody armor.
we all did it
>solo them with Chisato
skill issue
I just did.
im real close to beating iseria queen without it
I wish I could use celine but meteor swarm doesnt work cause light absorb and i cant keep my formation bonus for anything to negate it
i wanted to ask too is there any source of resurrection potion in game? I got 20 from preordering but I wont use them unless there is, I dont see a way to make them in any of my stuff
Activate your Windows
he can't. he's a europoor.
I got it
The key was taking away all of chisatos moves and replacing them with just Tear Gas, some things never change
https://massgrave.dev/
can you do it without having to remake a bunch of stuff?
yes if you are lucky
so, no
Got it, I havent used remaking much I did a tiny bit just to get something vaguely useful on the COT weapons
I literally just beat the double arena battle without bloody armor or the other invincible trick with valliant armor and adamantine armor factor.
With Earnest who is surprisingly good for that specific fight. Just grind more refactors anon.
how did you survive their spin to win move?
I am going to fuck an elf unprotected on my honor as a Kenny
Reminder that Claude canonically impregnates this.
you can't prove it
the kenny estate will NOT pay out to unsubstantiated claims
God, I miss SOA so much
*BANG BANG*
>CAM ON BUNNEYH

first departure any good?
Its okay
I liked it. It's a less in-depth 2 with some weird padding and backtracking.
>It's a less in-depth 2
There is more to Star Ocean then Space Elf Pussy
once you go elf you never go back
The universe is full of hot alien pussy
>teasing one-san personality
>top tier body
>loaded as fuck $$
>3 eyes (more = better)
Opera is best girl.
I didn't realize that Noel was so based
why does he even exist when Rena is a mandatory party member
Just in case you want a healer that can join the cult of Vegh.
Welch is strongest in a reverse harem team. Noel is the only male healer
Welch should be fine with just 2 males, 3k attack will overcap her, 2500 atk should come pretty close to capping her attack with earrings of frenzy
the 3000 atk goes over 9999
Fucking 4d whales and their p2w items
QRD on how this works? I did a google search but didn't find anything
Her postgame weapon grants bonuses depending on the number of males she's fighting with.
Cute and CANON husband and wife
So what's the deal with the sacred grounds of linga and the doorway to another world? And the giant bones?
Noel is Leon
I haven't played SO2 before. Elicoor is involved in 2? You go there in SO4 at one point.
Wait I'm retarded I got Elicoor and EN II mixed up.
Yes. The Morphus of EN II are heavily implied to be a faction of Nedians that fucked off during the civil war and are ashamed of their race's warmongering history but not so ashamed that they turned themselves into Galactic NEET shut-ins.
That was really stupid of Energy Nede to become Jonestown
It's hilarious.
I can only imagine how the Nedian Schism went all those years ago.
>GUYS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN ATONE FOR OUR SINS IS TO BLOW UP OUR PLANET AND ISOLATE OURSELVES IN WHATEVER REMAINS OF IT FOR ALL ETERNITY
>Uhm, yeah you do that. We'll just hit up the Space 7/11 for some milk and come back to join you guys
EN II and the Morphus are an offshoot of one of the planets you visit in SO2
>EN II
Isn't that Bacchus or elf pussy from 4 planet?
Bacchus and Mage Elf Pussy are from En II, basically a Nedian colony ship.
Is there anyone over 15 that thinks that looks good? Jesus
chug bleach
On the contrary, it's only people over 15 who think the remake looks good.
I'm very bored by the story and I just want to keep breaking systems
is this normal
yes
same
stop playing attention to the main story after disc 2
yes, all the side shit is worth it alone
The story was pretty cool back in 1998. Seeing surprise 10 space niggas, an entire planet exploding, and tournament arc wasn't as cliche back then.
>Uncle Roddick
would actually be neat to see him interwcting with older Ronyx, Illia and Claude
He is saddly a cuck, according to the ending of 1.
But he got his elf-fox pussy in the end.
Doesn't he bang Milly?
It is never stated. Dorne have a crush on Milly and Roddick seems to not care.
can't believe my dad is alive
>Earnest is a super safe break monster and I'm only finding this out while grinding attempts on the double angel arena fight without bloody's.
Wtf happened and how did I miss this.
Combatwise the characters’ viability has changed a decent amount compared to previous versions
Hope you didn’t like Ashton
I don’t think they changed his normals
Oh I know that, I just went by testimony that earnest still had a lot of problems but was better. But Bed of Roses perhaps is one of the best break tools in the game against the hyper mobile super bosses along with being incredibly safe to maintain bonus meter, and thousand tails is some pretty good damage.
Rena is basically superman
And Claude cock is kryptonite
no that's dias cock
Precis or Bowman?
neither
Do you guys realize that this is just a video game?
no
fuck SO3
>Ten Wise Men
MORE LIKE TEN WISE JOBBERS LMAO
Yes, even limitless Gabriel.
Precis is that you?
Same with VP, long dungeon with hard boss and then a long hike back.
You know it actually kinda feels my heart with joy to know people waifu Rena again.
Good for you
>mfw my monster rancher waifu never takes off because KT being an asshat and just port the PS1 game without adding anything
Fugg
>finally max out all IC skills
>get an item that lets me steal things again
Why? What's worth stealing twice by the time you're level 200+?
>SO6 shows only one ending at once
Pretty lazy
Video games are simply not as good as they used to be.
>SO6 only has endings for the MC + 1 party member, and not for any other pairings
That's the real problem.
I never use Ashton just for his enormously BIG overworld model. It's very distracting.
Is stealing worth of ruining your relationships with the party?
there is food that can negate the relationship loss
What food is it?
Konjac jelly
Grape drink and fried chicken
Bribe them with food
I don't have a lot of time to play this game so what's the best way to cheese so non-story content and battles take less time?
(I know of the skill that decrease the price of the other skills but not much of everything else)
What should be my warpath for breaking the game open? I already have a path for picking up my party members but I want to crack this game open over my knee and eat it out with IP shit.
Tell me what I need to do.
Please respond now
Why does nu-Dias look like Noah from XB3?
What is the rest of the SO1 cast up to anyway?
Roddick was mentioned
>Universe is still hard when you break the game
Speaking of Expellans getting Nedian genes, reminder that Blue Sphere sets up Dias/Chisato.
I mean, the Dias/Chisato paired ending in SO2 alone already has tons of shipfag bait for them.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
CHAD
Claude going from this to the classic date invitation "what are you going to do once we finish here?" In their paired ending is so funny
I wish the characters interactions changed depending on their affection levels. It makes any pairing but Claude and Rena for example, feel like the 'wrong' choice since shes still all like "OHHHH I CANT LIVE WITHOUT YOU CLAUDE" later on even if hes not the top.
Nigga, what about platonic!?
I can fix him
Now, Pair him with Dias.
I like how it's optional to beat the game though.
where would you go to continue with this franchise after second story? are all the games on PC/emulatable?
also is 1 worth playing?
You go with 3, then 4, then skip 5 unless you're a masochist, then enjoy 6!
5 is the worst game in the series and not even a question. To even imply that 4 is worse is hilariously wrong.
Sure but 4 is still a bad game
It's a good game but it has some piss poor characters and awkward interactions with a few questionable plot points. Best combat in the series and you get to visit 7 different planets/satellites so I'm happy.
Okay but it's still one of the worst games in the series and fucked the series so badly that 5 suffered from it
No? If 4 had truly fucked the series over then fans would have been wary of 5 and it would have sold far less than it actually did. 5 was fucked because Tri Ace tried to do way more than their budget could afford, on top of SE being notoriously stingy with non FF/DQ brands back then.
And the reason it had no budget was because of 4 fucking everything up
I don't get why you're defending a bad game
They had more than enough budget to make something competent with 5 considering that 6 almost certainly had way less budget and it was a superior game. Tri Ace fucked up with 5.
6 being a good game is a miracle considering how fucking awful 4 and 5 were
>I don't get why you're defending a bad game
Because he's played SO4 when he was a young lad and is very nostalgic for it.
It's simply not good. It's the last Star Ocean with an actual budget, but that doesn't make it a good video game. Both SO5 and 6 did more than SO4 with much more limited means.
I never played 5. Really liked 6 though. Ray is the lead in the series. By a huge margin.
Raymond "Fuck the Federation" Lawrence is my hero.
Fuck the federation. Fuck the prime directive. Get a cup of coffee, swing my sword like a baseball bat and be optimistic the whole damn time. No seriously we go full Captain Kirk on this one and it's great.
Wouldn't Kennys be the Kirks?
>5 did so much more than 4
You mean the game that was panned by even the fucking journos and normies who know jack shit for being underwhelming? The game where no one wanted to buy the follow up because they were afraid of wasting their money again?
4 is not a good game but to claim in good faith that 5 was anything but the worst game in the series is asinine.
IIRC Reimi, Meracle and Arumat are way better.
You'll need a PS4 if you want to play 5 but I'd say it's considered by most to be the worst game at this point so you probably aren't missing much
I wanted to play 5 to ogle the checkboard skinsuit girl but it definitely works like shit on rpcs3
Jeez that looks bad. Why didn't they just make 3d models?
If you're going to remake something do it properly.
You should have played them in release order.
I wish kidney stones upon the man who decided the SO4 bonus board should be cleared on reload.
Late game leveling is fun.
Is there ability which lets you one-shot low level enemies?
Yojimbo (or bodyguard I think in English) does it automatically.
Didn't take Opera for this run, but good to know.
>put on ring of avoidance
That's a good idea.
i don't think this fills out the enemy encyclopedia though which you need for opera's best weapon
>i don't think this fills out the enemy encyclopedia though which you need for opera's best weapon
you can't fill in the entire enemy encyclopedia during 1 run since some enemies are path specific
What skills(or specialities or whatever they're called) are you running?
Should enable scout, put on ring of avoidance and go turbo grind mode in a corner
I got to lvl 255 in like 5 minutes
God damn, you were right.
where get ring of avoidance
is this cot
Yes. And craft from philosophers stones with Rena.
>party bump combat
steal the sword
Ys?
Anyone else just craft all the foods and just keep them in your inventory without ever using it, except for the pickpocket/contraband foods?
You know it's just easier to sell all the food you will never need so you can find the food you actually WANT to eat easier.
Where the hell do you get the Yharma ingredient?
from yarma
>More cooking master shit
You can pickpocket it from a guy in an inn.
For me, it's Reimi.
Her butt is the most important part of SO4.
Truly amazing. I play as her just for that, so I can see the jiggle. (Also she's very fun to play tbqh).
The CERO and ESRB guys gave up the second Lymle showed up.
WTF I love Lymle now
>2). Meracle's vagina being on full display like goddamn how the hell did Tri-Ace get away with that.
The cameltoe and everything, man. Nice.
I really should give 4 another chance
I just said the same goddamn thing.
I'm updating the ahsoka-pasta to an old Edge talking to Ronyx about Meracle next thread
You're a good man anon
>bacchus
Gay. Myuria is sex.
>2). Meracle's vagina being on full display like goddamn how the hell did Tri-Ace get away with that.
not true unless you can prove it with pictures
please
already posted one big boy but here's another. Her cameltoe is easier to see in game.
My sister-in-law walked in on me playing SO4 once and of course the PA where Meracle sits on Edge's lap was playing. And I had to awkwardly say "haha japan right?"
Anyway I haven't seen my niece in a very long time. No idea if it's related.
10% of pussy lips is showing, how did they get away with it? Also, this is the future of anime.
How come I sometimes eat shit and die from a single attack even from weak enemies? Every now and then they'll do 100% of my HP in damage and I'm not sure what's causing it but I've gotten a game over 5 times outside Harley now.
get insta death protection
all enemies can just instantly kill you for no reason??????
NEXT STAR OCEAN GAME WITH FOX GIRLS WHEN?
Who's the best summon?
Fidel and Fayt
Someone please help, I literally can't leave town without dying instantly. Level 20.
universe mode?
start using bodyguard + scout
try to outlevel zone
No, Galaxy. They just kill me in 1 or 2 hits. Can't dodge everything because they all attack at different times.
I'm trying to GET to Laceur but every random encounter instantly kills me.
give me a sec, I'm pretty sure I have a save in that area so I can look at what options you even have available to you
The most dangerous enemy were >dreamshades
as doing them normally on universe was basically completely RNG unless you used THE TECHNIQUE
>99 thieves
Because their ambush was basically a guaranteed restart
and floor 10 in general
>Because gulp slugs mixed with dreamshades in rooms that nuke your health and mp is a good way to lose instantly.
get good, literally
What were they thinking?
>I hope you weren't running a full melee team ufuufuufuu.
Or something like that.
2 mage 2 fighter handles that
Since you also don't want to be caught with your pants down when you fight shit that suppresses your skills
I see a lot of anons get Opera but ignore her bf. Should I get him or Welch in my first playthrough?
Okay I've unlocked IC, now what?
hack the planet
>near the end of the game
>get to the graphic sex scene with Claude and Rena
How the fuck did this make it in?
What build should i use to defeat Dias with Claude?
if you mean in the arena, you can't
gotta get to level 255 first, anon
The remake's version of Deep Space is arse, good thing they let you switch.
Getting your entire bonus gauge broken from a single missed dodge means the dodge isn't ever worth using, huh.
getting your entire bonus gauge broken from a back attack from when you're stringing together 5 chain battles sucks too
I only bothered to dodge until I completed the missions for it, then I said fuck it VICTORY VICTORY VICTORY!
it's okay if you're solo with something otherwise no. I think they should have added a block button instead.
>I think they should have added a block button instead.
Block buttons are usually a good idea for any ARPG. Make your block break and you get stunned if you try to turtle all the time and viola, perfectly balanced.
You have 12 frames to work with.
Git gud.
That factor that gives you an extra half a second of i frames is nutty
That's a significant amount of time.
Classic
>just defend until the enemies die of boredom
shitpost
Yeah you have to let up off the attack and potentially get hit just for a bit of shield damage and mp recovery. Either give us more stun time or reduce the penalties.
1/4 of a shield is pretty good really, the real problem is that fights are simply too fast and chaotic before long for this to really matter in any meaningful way
i cant even see the enemy half the time i couldnt possibly time a dodge
They also put you behind the enemy and you have restored MP so it's guaranteed killer move spam damage. It's pretty strong and I thought it was balanced properly to be honest.
It would be if enemy attacks were more sensible. Some enemies have good tells but some just don't have tells or the time to dodge makes no sense.
Every enemy I've encountered do far has at least one attack where they glow red.
Is it worth going from galaxy mode to universe mode?
I'm new to the series and I don't want to overwhelm myself with harder difficulties.
No. Galaxy is fine for a first playthrough. Universe is meant for people who are familiar with how to exploit the games many systems and break it over their knee.
Aunt Rachel comming in clutch to wingman Claude.
I hope you can choose another charcter in NG+. The only reason I didn't play Laeticia route was because I didn't want to start from the clear state
>Get all three plaques
>There's no reward or event
>Reel doesn't even acknowledge it
Well fuck you too game
Where can I fish a big fish in nede? I never got the edge assault.
Southwest of Princebridge.
That's pretty much it. It's kind of strange how the entire Wisemen backstory is relegated to some easy to miss PAs.
It’s what I would have done anyway
Imagine Rena, but in the evil fascist Nedian era.
Only a homosexual would imagine her in military wear and calling you a subhuman non-nedian mongrel that should be under her heel haha.
Jokes aside, if she really was born in that era, she would definitely be on the side of the Nedians that went: "Hey guys, I think going Space Hitler is bad actually."
haha yeah imagine commissioning art of her like that haha
Is that the most pointless formation?
>Drawn out fights
>In a star ocean game
huh??? Either you win instantly or you die instantly.
That Ethereal Queen fight in 6 was definitely drawn out for me, but I played that lame as fuck. I just set down some bells with Nina and kept running away, maybe I'd revive someone if I had the time. I was shitting my pants when the clones showed up.
It was pretty bad for me too, I had to completely change my strategy I've been using the entire game+postgame and play like dark souls.
Get dunked on, Bunny
That guy who talked about the music levels last thread was wrong. You can just pick.
So can you just level up whatever you want besides Effort?
Is there even anything this would be good for?
I guess if you had Ernest you could acquire 10 battle suits to remake them all at once, but I can't think of anything else.
im about to play SO6. what am i in for?
Numbers
Post the superboss webm.
>Gets laser weapon that can change into a bunch of different weapons for each attack.
>Fists of fury
>Loyal robutt wife with jiggle physic titties and shiny ass.
She's the best girl.
If you're having trouble picking a route, listen to both character's battle themes. No, I'm not joking, you're gonna hear it for a lot of the game.
An automatic enemy targeting system that is completely incomprehensible.
it's the only thing I hate from the demo
A mid 2000s JRPG for better or worse
The AI won't use attack chains longer than 5 AP which can make or break certain characters.
The remake system is fucking terrible. The game doesn't need this much RNG rerolling after the million other skill and crafting systems.
Raymond it's time for your scheduled titjob for stress relief.
What do you mean not around Laeticia? I don't mind if she watches.
>Needing Bloody Armor for Ethereal Queen
Just don't get hit bro.
This dude is probably the most autistic SO player
>Rena when she didn't talk about Dias for 10 seconds
>2480 defence
>Iseria still hits me for 9999 damage with her forward light pillars attack
Rena party?
Claude
Dias
?????
Slapstick. Gotta love it.
>pantsu
So they kept it in, after all eh
This franchise has a weird force field around it that’s left it essentially untouched by the standards of “modern audiences.” The new game has a slutty underage healer and a sex robot. And this remake is COMPLETELY untouched. How did they get away with it?
Nina's outfit is honestly the lewdest thing about her. She's pretty naive.
If anything that makes it more inappropriate. tri-Ace gave their young and childish healer girl huge tits and bulging thighs. The current year is a spook to them. It’s like they’re still in the 2000s. And I hope they stay like this.
S O V L
also the other factor is people overestimating the influence of "woke" or "modern audiences"
Because nobody gives a fuck about Star Ocean
It's a mid AA JRPG franchise, and that's ok.
Did you get filtered on easy difficulty?
No?
I like Star Ocean, i just think it's an usually pretty mid franchise
Why is she so dumb
My dumb cutewife rena
Factors were a mistake.
>devs "Don't worry guys, the new crafting system is great! You can craft 10 items at a time and the UI shows you what you can craft!"
>"What about remaking?"
It takes like 2 minutes to do 20 remakes of an item, did you have the worlds worst rng or what?
>2 minutes for 20 remakes
you work faster than me I guess? I can be a little choosey with the stuff I feed into it. I wasn't 100% sure on the method for certain outputs, I just kept feeding it armor but I didn't want to blindly feed it stuff that I wanted to keep.
>be a little choosey
There's the problem
Just craft +50% factor chance and +10% rare chance then dupe and slap 2:3 together
I guess the 5 slot is a fucking trap if the optimal way to remake is to just spend 1 factor energy/high grade fodder and call it a day
>2nd part of the cave in Salva is opened
>I barely damage enemies and they wipe out the whole party in 10 seconds
...
filtered
Not anymore
dang i just spammed revival cards lol well done using dodge on celeste
how to make claude hit for 99999?
>no hp leech
MP leech is more important.
see
I keep forgetting that Factor Energy exists. I just feed my weapons shrimp and hope for the best.
How do you unlock the last two?
Fight Iseria queen by blowing the horn you got from beating up Gabriella
The other one is unlocked when you unlock Gabriel Unlimited
Well I was able to get Ashton. But what is recommended level for the mines? 20lvl Rena and 15lvl Claude and Celine are absolutely useless against enemies here.
The only thing I got left is double angel group battle and the unknown group battle and I guess I'm done
What an incredible time, knowing the original inside+out made it all go way smoother but universe was honestly balanced well for that for the most part
I do wish the endgame was less of a fucking BLINK AND YOU EXPLODE situation but I guess that's Star Ocean 2 endgame at the end of the day
The remake itself is really good though i think ultimately i prefer the originals combat and music (and some backgrounds), but the musics an option in this game and literally everything else is better really
>party members who are recruited later don't get reclaimed BP and SP from challenges
Are you fucking kidding me?
You get more than enough bp/sp to cap everything and still have 9999 leftover
You wouldn't a Iserian Queen
I would try to at least
contraband is so stupid even with a 50% success with replication the money you make from selling forged checks is ridiculous
You only ever need to make one check or document or whatever it is you want to sell since Replication exists.
>Find out that there's a Contraband item that makes any upgrade that costs BP essentially free for one time
>It can't be Replicated, but it's not even that hard to make
Sword Bomber costs 650 BP to upgrade? How about 2? Is that reasonable?
I'm playing SO3, when does this game actually start? When can I start crafting crazy broken shit?
It takes a while, the first planet you land on is essentially a tutorial and the second is where shit starts to happen. Crafting in that game is also a lot more annoying to get started with, but there's broken stuff before the end of the first disc at least.
What the fuck? Do the other games go back to SO1/2 crafting at least?
To my knowledge, no. 1 & 2 are the only games that have in-depth non-combat related skills you can invest in.
I wouldn't know, I never even beat SO3, I just remember thinking "I don't like the new crafting system."
>6 has the closest IC to SO2
I'd be curious to see what it offers.
Writing, alchemy, smithing, compounding, crafting, and engineering work exactly the same as their previous counterparts.
well if SO6 goes on sale over the holidays maybe I'll pick it up then.
I like the game but I don't really give a fuck if you buy it. It doesn't have denuvo, go pirate it or whatever.
It's weird.
You can get laser weapons and put atack factors to break the game but it takes a really long time and you have to spend a lot of time using guides to make anything that isn't worthless.
4 and 5 IC is pretty weak. 6 has the closest IC to SO2, they let you break that game autistically.
I remember using attack+500 x7 laser weapons around the time Maria joins and just manhandling everything with Scatter Beam-Aiming Device until end game.
>secret boss just turns into a fucking beyblade
That's some gay ass shit.
How do I stop sucking dicks? And I'm not even playing on universe
Does anyone know where to get ingredients of yarma? Need it for my last guild mission.
You gotta do the cooking game show minigame in Fun City. It's basically a rhythm you have to do 7 times.
And with that I believe i am finished
All group battles, unlimited Gabriel, the maze, Devils Aria, everyone at level cap, 85% of the items, nearly all enemies, all raids, all on universe start to finish
As a big fan of the original this is the most fun I've had with a game since I dunno when even
Looking forward to revisiting next year probably for a Claude playthrough
>85% of the items
you have to cook more food
So how exactly do you farm romantic endings? Don't used and missed PA's matter a lot?
Was Rena's ai completely fucked in the other versions?
She works fine in both versions, you just need to manage her settings some
You can tell her not to cast specific spells
yes
She's always been retarded. At least now you can bring up the spell list from any character.
Wait, the Gabriel Celeste in SO2 was a girl?
I absolutely don't understand how this game works.
I can't defeat big bird at peak of the mountain.
you must become more powerful
learn skills, make items, upgrade special moves, or level up
I'm doing all of these and I still suck dick.
Make more accessories with crafting specifically
If you're fighting the bird then I assume you have at least Ashton on your team, so at least 2 fighters, if you only have Claude+Ashton I'd encourage you to try playing as Rena and joining the melee, you basically wanna pin it down as hard as possible and break it, rely on items to heal, dont feel bad if people die thats just how the game is, throw resurrection bottle with wild abandon
I'm just retarded and forgot to turn off training.
After that and bying a little more resurection potions I was able to defeat it.
>getting filtered by Krosse Mountain
Maybe you should uninstall. That or lower the difficulty to galaxy or earth mode.
Something's definitely wrong with the achievement numbers.
I guess people know about the EX dungeon cuz the game directs it to you but don't know about playing the trumpet?
on snoystation it's 6.6% for gabe c. and 5.4% for iseria
Is Welch the biggest slut in the SO universe?
As expected of 4D MMO players really
>Copy Octopath Traveler and become pixel art indie shit
>Redditors now like the games
We're entering a new phase of soulless shit.
You've never left your current phase of sexual frustration
what's the best way to play the first star ocean? I want to play them in order.
PSP or Switch version
I though the PSP version was alright. I guess the PS4 version is more or less the same.
Both the original and First Departure are pretty different and very worth playing.
First Departure is closer to SO2 gameplay while the original is really unique and one of the most impressive SNES games period.
Do the games have any fan service?
What like tits and ass or references to the other games? Because yes to both.
Do I need to have played the first game to enjoy this one?
Is there a difficulty higher than Universe (like Chaos) you can unlock? Maybe for NG+?
do developers ever do fun stuff like this anymore
also no
to be fair i dunno where youd go past this
the double angel arena fight on universe is like as hard as you can make a fight in this game without it just becoming unplayable
Does original weapon stay after customization?
no
>like 10 hours in and not even done with the Krosse continent, only just recruited Ashton and haven't done his sidequest yet
Ashton is the embodiment of based retard
It's funny how punctuation changes your statement.
I helped my uncle jack off an elephant
Maybe the script had a typo and the voice actor just ran with it
Actually I found this guy who starts joking about Ashton's responsibility dialogue sounding like BL talk (directed at Claude), so maybe there is something to it.
?t=1240
But that's a very different kind of joke to the English script just making him mispronounce a word.
That's obviously a no man will want me now joke
If the FF7 Remake was like this, I would've cried. SO2 took me back to my childhood
I thought I was done
But I kinda want to replay as Claude and go with only Rena the entire game, i think it might be fun to see combat slowed down and with the dmg cap removed it should be ok
I'd rather play 4 ten more times than play 5 or even 3 to be honest. Both of those games are trash. At least 4 had good gameplay and SO1 SOVL. Roak is based and seeing felpools and featherfolks again was kino.
4 is a finished game and SO5 isn't. I can understand people liking 4, but you'd need brain damage to like 5. That said I want Fiore to sit on my face.
I just read that Precis has a LOT of PAs if you pair her with Ashton and Welch and even gets a special unique move from one of them, is that worth doing? I really don't care for Ashton and Welch doesn't fit the game well at all in my opinion... I do really like Precis though.
I used to think Welch was lame, but she grew on me a lot after I took her.
can't squelch the welch
I'd this the ugliest game of the year? I think it's even worse than Starfield. The clash between the sprites and backgrounds with cheap overlay effects is terrible looking.
>worse than Starfield
lol stfu pajeet naggerlover go back to your goyslop
Anyone able to post the character recruitment image
It’s in the last thread linked up top.
Are the fishing rewards only on Expel? I need to know if I should do all my fishing now before I go past the point of no return.
No. You don't have to worry about that.
As long as you did all the PAs you wanted you are good to keep going.
This is something I am not a fan of with how returning to Expel works now. Feels a bit shit that you could now have some PAs you can't see until post-game
>romance Opera
>become wealthy and husband to a high influencial woman
>romance Rena
>get to impregnate a teenage space elf
There is only one right answer and it’s space elf every fucking time.
Arranged ost or original ost?
Also it sounds more like soemthing liek Baten Kaitos than Tales much to my suprise.
I prefer the original for almost every track.
Sakuraba did the music for all 3
I know! I was just suprised it leaned more one than the other.
I went in expecting Tales.
just started playing, put a few hours in. can i fuck myself by getting the "wrong" IC/speciality skills?
I’d like to know this too, but according to anon it’s not possible to brick your save or anything.
You can get every skill. At worst you'd be "suboptimal", but whatever who cares as long as you're having fun.
The ONLY skill I'd say to go for first is the SP reducing skill at the top of the IC skill page, other than that, do as you please.
What are the notable items to pickpocket on Expel?
I’m a few hours in and I don’t see why people hate Rena.
I’ve not seen her ‘woman moments’ yet but she seems to have a good head so far.
Nobody hates Rena.
Rena is good, she's just a teenage girl and her first romance is a depressed isekai protagonist that's obsessively protective and scared shitless of her leaving him.
Really? Right now Claude just seems like JRPG McSwordguy but if he starts evolving a bit then that’ll be neat. Depression arcs are fun.
Can I reject Dias from joining the party?
I want to form the following party: Rena, Claude, Celine, Opera, Precis, Ernest, Welch and Chisato.
Yes. You can actually no way fag every recruitable character that crosses your path. Claude and Rena are really the only mandatory characters.
I botched the creation of harem party by not starting with Claude (and choose Leon as a shota member).
...
He's just like me fr
Why is Rena obsessed whit Dias? This is some cuck shit.
No one is making you romance her.
The plot sort of forces them together at several points. It's kind of retarded if Claude doesn't win the space elf contest.
You mean if Rena doesn’t win the Claudebowl?
I fucking swear, NTR brainrot is real.

Isekai is one of the oldest overall fantasy setups, including Western which did it way before while japs while still shooting spears at each other
now that im looking at the series as a whole, the worst games in the series are definitely 4 and 5, but not like the entire games, theres bits and bobs and huge pain points in both games. like the blindside system in 4 being fucking garbage to control and the stupid ass gimmick grigori bosses, overall the combat in 4 feels like a worse 3 where they tried to do new things for the sake of trying. not being able to control when you guard in a game where you can constantly get juggled to death and or picked back up into a combo after getting up from the ground whether you wake up attack or not is frustrating as fuck. i dont mind the story or characters(dub or sub). people shit on lymle but her interactions with faize were great imo.
so5 though, why the fuck is fidel a worse fayt in amost every aspect? like i have no hatred for that character but he got dealt a terrible hand by the devs when it comes to being unique as an mc attack wise. why is the only useful attack in his entire movelist fucking double slash? you can legitimately max out double slash and ignore the rest of the attacks you learn from leveling and just soam that shit.
I like the dynamic because it really is just familial love even in the endings
Did you really finish the game 2 times just in 7 days?
>game prounces Rena’s name with “Ray” instead of with “Rin”
i will choke whoever did this
Are you talking about dub?
Nina was supposed to take that role. But she wasn't obnoxious.
The best thing SO6 did was remove all the e-boi/shota characters who are almost the most loathsome obnoxious shit
Feels like game makes you use IC when you still don't leave Krosse. But I don't have high enough levels to make something good.
DIAS-SAMA!
Current best shit on the isekai market
What is the best about this?
it doesn't follow the troppes of isekai, mc even loses a battle.
It's nothing special. I'd honestly call it closer to a modern .hack if nothing else. This is coming from a guy that's up to date with the manga.
Anime is competently animated, so that's something I guess.
>competently animated
it's above avarage
Is it possible to beat dias in the erena
Attack at night
What do you mean by this
Dias is days in spanish
I still don’t know what you mean by this.
Can I beat him or not?
Your humor is too highbrow for me.
No you can't.
Fuck
What will Rena think of Claude now?
For SO2R they boosted Arena Dias' HP by like 1000x and once you get him low enough he will get really fucking fast, have superarmor, and start dealing 50k dmg a hit.
Since they take your gear you can't use any cheesy shit so it's impossible, even if you grinded to lv255 he'd just one shot you faster than you can dodge hits once he gets low.
I wodner what would happen if I like used a CE table or something to be invincible
Thoughts on "Am I Actually the Strongest?", i think it's actually a funny good isekai.
Should I choose Human Male or Female Elf as first run?
Claude for sci fi Star Trek quasi-harem shenanigans, Rena for lost elf princess otome game reverse harem shenanigans. Claude will probably give a better understanding of what the fuck is actually going on early on but it's not like it's hard to guess
can i recruit the elf? and can I romance her? does this game even have that
The story doesn't differ much between characters, it's just perspective. There's also 2 exclusive companions, Claude gets a shota catboy and Rena gets the *Nothing Personnel* rival character. The characters can get with pretty much everyone else but some are purely platonic, mostly for when it makes sense like Bowman who's married
i asked if i can romance the elf
Romance? Naw dude you impregnate her
>spoiler
i’m installing your game now
i see a cute elf and my brain just wants to do the Human Male thing and breed her
I’ve seen so much “I want to fuck Space Elf Pussy” and “Can I romance her” in these threads the past week that I genuinely have to ask myself if gamers are just starved for good Waifu and Rena is what is catching on, despite being a 90’s waifu.
Good god.
SPACE
ELF
PUSSY
Why’d they have to give her lewd thighs and an erotic skirt and ZR socks?
Because it was the 90s and japan still knew what was good
Who can blame them?
Funny because Rena has a lot of unlikable moments but people still like her because she feels like an actual person.
Rena has been my waifu since I was 11 years old. She is perfect.
>despite being a 90’s waifu.
maybe because modern waifus (like Asuna from s/a/o) are shit
You are not wrong.
I feel like the last waifu I can remember actually liking is Sheena in Symphonia.
Sexy as fuck. Cute personality, and doesn’t give a fuck about her sex appeal.
the boob jiggle
It’s barely even there.
It also anazes me that Sheena remains one of the bustiest Tales girls too.
When you're 14 it's there.
Thoughts on 6? Stopped playing after 4 but this remake is great so wondering how the most recent entry is like.
I started playing 6 because I liked this one and it's pretty decent 5 hours in, like it more than 4 for sure
A bit annoyingly linear
The character designs are really wacky, like some JoJo looking muscle wizard, a literal sexbot, the most busty 15 year old I've seen in a game released after 2020 and I could go on
>most busty 15 year old in a game since 2020
Good god. It feels like I’m looking at a unicorn
Atalier Ryza and its effects on abine games has been nothing but a blessing
I really enjoyed 6. I thought it had a nice party and Raymond is the shit.
SO6 is the best game of 2022.
>$60 price point
This complaint is disingenuous. I only ever see it made about Japanese games.
rena worst girl
precise middle girl
celine best girl
I mostly like the new tracks but holy HELL did they massacre the boss theme, the old one was so goddamn hype.
God I hope we get another week of these threads. Most quality posts ive seen om Ganker in a long time
Short term "generals" that are relatively drama free really are the best threads on this board, I really loved the NEO TWEWY threads when it was new
