50USD for a 25 year old game still using the same sprites but on a 7th gen background is a pretty step fare on top of Star Ocean already being a super niche autism thing
It's a great remake of the best SO game.
It's not perfect, but as far as replayable rpg ggo, it goes far.
You can even not actually play the game with bodyguard if you just wanna see the different endings.
>different endings For Claude I saw that Rena has like four endings. What makes the difference on which one you get? Just affection?

i think it's 2x ending for who was chosen on main character selection and 2x ending for whether it's highest affection vs maxed affection

Fair enough. Are the affection items only 'set to 16 or 28' in this release? I could have sworn you could max/empty affection in previous incarnations with the items.

not sure, haven't tried using aphrodisiac or trust potion, maybe those actually add relation?
It's almost always physical which means it's completely inaccurate. I only buy digital these days.
I assume it's Japanese physical sales since they can't get digital sales numbers from Nintendo
makes sense.
somebody posted some investor report from square enix in one of these threads I think that showed digital purchases in japan were way up while physical was trending way down compared to america, europe, and other parts of asia.
famitsu is always physical sales. that's also why basing anything on famitsu sales is fucking retarded. its like half the sales in a single region of the world
>playing Rena's route >about to get Bowman instead of MSGK since I got her with Claude >realize that I could have taken Celine because there's always 1 character overlap >reload and have to spend an hour doing the "Rena is an idiot" arcs again
Why is Rena worst girl in her own game?
Based on the average of 30 sales for each review on Steam, it's sold just under 30k on Steam. Closing in on 100K for a remaster of a relatively niche PS1 JRPG isn't bad. And I'm willing to bet a lot of people are waiting for a sale given the MSRP.
>And I'm willing to bet a lot of people are waiting for a sale given the MSRP.
Yep that's me. I don't even know why I'm in these threads considering I'm not playing the game yet.
>reload and have to spend an hour doing the "Rena is an idiot" arcs again >Why is Rena worst girl in her own game?
I don't get what you mean here, unless you think her helping a friend who saw his whole family killed and his little sister raped in front of him is somehow stupid.
If anything, Celine's much worse, a total whore like any streamer out there.
>unless you think her helping a friend
Are you a woman? The first time she runs off with him in Mars she doesn't help him and she's being petulant. When she misses Claude's match in the tournament, she also does nothing to help since Dias figured out the thieves would be at the bar. During both of those jaunts Dias outright tells her she's being an idiot and that she should go back to her party and Claude. She was being stupid, plain and simple. To top it off, in Claude's route she gets mad every time he so much as looks at another woman.
>If anything, Celine's much worse, a total whore like any streamer out there.
Celine falls in love with Chris like 5 minutes after you get her. Making the occasional sex joke doesn't mean she's a whore.
The first time you meet him in Mars is the first time in two years and she had 0 news from him, i can understand how she felt and why she wanted to be with him for a while.
Claude, on the other hand, is literally just some guy who fell from the sky.
At the tournament, she's anxious about him not making it because she thinks it's important to Claude, which isn't really at that moment because he'd rather not be abandoned by her.
There again, i can understand how she felt.
She act weird, sure, especially at the tournament, but i think the devs just wanted to make her seem tormented between both, and that's not how it turns out.
Precis's post game weapon has 2500 atk, a bunch of nifty hit/crt/guts and +200% bonus on special art damage, at the cost of +200% MP cost, but she also can use her HP instead of her SP
Easily the best fucking weapon in the post game
Is you use noel, Welsh has the strongest weapon in game, hands-down.

You're either a woman or a gay man. No normal man would empathize with her nonsense otome bullshit.
I'm not convinced that Welch's whore stick 3k attack actually does anything with attack cap, but my current party has only Claude and Dias so I can't really test the last part
Still, this iteration of Welch is already pretty fucking broken with rapid flick and slappity slap, so I can believe that
But why even bother with Noel? In post game you can just do 4x hp drain weapon and forego healer entirely. Get resurrection cards, or use the formation that makes it so items are used on all, get Rena on Angel Feather, and do away with healer entirely.

I didn't mean damage cap, I mean attack cap as in 9999 attack
Given Earrings of Frenzy flat out triple the wearer's attack while halving their hit (doesn't matter due to the weapon's first dick ability), you gonna hit her ATK cap even without the 3rd dick ability.

Noel comes in as a bonus if you wanna use more varied equipment.
Welsh outclasses anyone.
Precis Included, Claude and his gun included, despite the ridiculous range and damage it got now.
Ashton included, he got nerfed hardcore.

Look, if you like Noel and want to use him, whatever
I'm saying that Noel is in no way necessary to optimize Welch given that you get enough attack to hit cap without 3rd ability, so you can still use Rena as the superior healer, or literally anyone else since I'm also not convinced any changes made to symbology made Noel not bottom tier. Only real change to that is Ashton is also hanging out on that same tier.
Not arguing Welch supremacy, we have already established that she's the best character. I am arguing that you don't need 3 male members in the party to optimize her best weapon.

JRPG progression, baby. Feels good. Spoiled myself a little bit upon meeting Precis and found out that I missed the chance to get some characters. I guess I'll have to save them for Rena mode. Gonna go back and do the contest tomorrow. I like that I don't have to go in a particular order when it comes to events.
If it's not FF, Square doesn't care. Any sales are better than none.
Any way to level down skills? Chisato's Gale Summersault was a lot better at level 1. Level 2 and 3 just add more, slower hits that don't get hitstun so they only get me killed.
My only memory of SO3 is Sidekick, Sidekick, Sidekick. Something about it having achievements for defeating bosses without taking damage, and trying to play normally means restarting constantly cause you mess up until you find out Sidekick allows you to defeat almost everything the game throws at you without taking damage.
I also could never get into the synthesis system in SO3; it confused me back then compared to the one in SO2 (PS version) where you can access it everywhere.
https://gbatemp.net/threads/star-ocean-the-second-story-r-name-and-honorifics-restoration-patch.642568/ > Honorifics for something like Hero (Hero-san/sama), any job names (Carpenter-san/sama), Traveller-san/sama etc won't be added.
Well what's the fucking point then, retard?
It happened by accident for me. There's a PA in Fun City where you can give Leon a big relationship boost with any girl of your choosing, but Celine actually had hearts for Leon before that so I just ran with it. I must have given Leon a Potion of Trust or had him publish books when he joined since he was such a late addition to the party, and it just went from there.
>didn't get the autistic 1 in a million chance of useless "Love of Animals" talent on his Celine
it's joever, bro, your save file is ruined. Sorry kid you have to start over
She has a 10% chance of getting it on a fresh save, which isn't too bad, but actually finding out if she has it is a needless grind that I swear wasn't there before. I'm 99% convinced you used to be able to save before visiting the king to reroll your chances, but now you have to start the whole game over again if Celine doesn't have Animal Training, which is a 15-20 minute trek if you don't want to miss any PA's along the way, either like Rena's necklace.
>didn't get the autistic 1 in a million chance of useless "Love of Animals" talent on his Celine
it's joever, bro, your save file is ruined. Sorry kid you have to start over
What's the optimal sequence to rerolling Celine assuming I don't want to miss any time-gated stuff along the way?
Precis isn't nearly as busted as those first two and honestly completely fine.
I say this as someone that ran Claude/Rena/Celine/Opera/Bowman/Earnest/Leon/Chisato for my first playthrough and beat the double arena with that team and no gimmicks.
I spent 4 hours resetting to get nimble fingers on Claude and Animal Training on Celine, then another 3 hours grinding to get Determination and Resilience to 10 on Claude, Rena, Celine so that Enlightenment is level 7, and I got Godspeed to 10 on Claude and fast casting to level 10 on the girls.
Thank God you don't have the autistic completionist gene. Imagine having a NG++ save with all talents but one learned and maxed. I get cold sweats just thinking about it.
Imagine having cold sweats over something so insignificant as a skill that doesn't even appear on the character's sheet.
All that for a video game that is itself within a video game.

The entirety of those related plot points is retarded. I don't think a single part makes sense.
I had a thought earlier today. The programmer writing those challenges could just add a couple 0s to an arbitrary challenge requirement and cause you hours of anguish
Music talent is also one of the completionist trap, you have limited tries to compose before you compose all the songs, and after that, no more talent fishing for Composition

Rena doesn't say anything during that bit if Claude is the main character. You get Claude with his sword out instead, which gets used a few times elsewhere too.
they have changed this in this remake, guilds only gives you missions, all skills are unlocked off the bat once you talk to the King in Krosse
only real nede bottleneck is Remaking's Re-creation gem, but given you only want to hardcore factors on endgame/postgame gear, it doesn't really matter

Book created on publication sets affection. Some potion from compounding also do this
>Book created on publication sets affection. Some potion from compounding also do this
Yes. They set the affection. They don't raise it above the number they state. So effectively those items are only good for lowering values.
Yeah?
I went in wit Claude and Rena solo, as the game wants you to.
Claude's gun is OP this time around, and with that and VICTORY i haven't had a hard time except against angel bitch.
Even at level 175 she'd wreck my shitt on Universe.
Considering how many people had the cheevo for ending the game as rena when i got it, i expected many more people to have done this
It's been a bit since I've played and I haven't gotten this release yet, but from what I remember she's excellent if you set her up to spam her mid-range skills.
Precis's post game weapon has 2500 atk, a bunch of nifty hit/crt/guts and +200% bonus on special art damage, at the cost of +200% MP cost, but she also can use her HP instead of her SP
With only her post-game weapon and a Berserker Ring she throws out insane damage Forcefields which I believe multi hit AND launch. Rapid fire style. Precis is the best.
Max Determination, Scouting, Customisation.
You want the super speciality Bodygard to farm and all that.
Go on, exit Krosse at level 100, only for Sasuke to one-shot you in the tourney.
Claude, did I ever tell you about Pericci? She was a teenage alien catgirl sex slave your mother and I encountered on our heroic adventure on Roak, a fine piece of jailbait from a more civilized age. She had the tightest body and the perkiest little breasts in the galaxy; barely legal in most systems.
Your uncle Roddick and I used to doubleteam her at the end of every successful fight on Roak, and once in a while we’d even have the entire Astral Knights battalion run a train over her, part of official Fellpool “training” of course. In time, she learned how to handle a long sword better than anyone in the party. She wore a skintight leotard every day so we told her there were no panties in space, and since she was constantly doing acrobatics you’d get a glimpse of her orange cameltoe mid fight as she’d do a flip while slicing a Dragon Axe in half. It was surreal.
We taught her to grip her precious Ocarina like a dildo and she constantly got captured by pirates and slavers almost every other day. It was ridiculous, like a constant porno Claude, you have no idea. And she was a good friend.
don't think she has anything of note, but she does like story book so i guess you might be able to use "we gave her a hentai doujin and told her it's a training manual"

He doesn't even have the courage to give her aher actual note, Bowman neither.
The implication that he was looking at other women at all. She's a trip.
Yeah no, by her dialogue, she's mad that they rate her 10/10 instead of giving her a real note.
if you pick the ending where Bowman make up a story about giving them notes for their outward beauty, your friendship level isn't affected by the PA.

Is there no other way to get the game-breaking items besides pickpocket? I don't want to do relationship management just for something I could easily create with IC.
Writing unironically writing. I started my second playthrough fresh, rushed writing early, I've just landed on Lacour and I have level 7 in like 70% of the skills on all characters and only level 30. It's frankly ludicrous, there are very few specializations I'm not level 7 in atleast because of it. Don't even miss that I don't have pickpocket.
How different is the Iscera Queen fight from original SO2 and the Remake?
On my PS1 playthrough I was retarded and instantly dismissed Bloody Armour as shit so I beat the Queen as a jarpig peon would.
The Challenge menu in this game feels like cheating. Fol is never a factor when the game just throws literally millions at you for just playing the game.
Is there any point in getting multiple Thief's Gloves or any other Key Item? I've noticed a lot of them in Pickpockets and I figure it's just for flavor but I thought I should ask.
>Finish everything else >Go fight Unlimited Gabe >Beat him on the first try even though I forgot to swap from the EXP formation to anything actually useful

They turned him into a joke in this game. He's not 1/10th the threat he was in the original damn shame. I don't know how they fucked him up this badly.
Didn't they change the COT in this to only be accessible after you beat him? They probably had to nerf him so he wouldn't brick normalfag games if they accidentally unlocked him.
None of his spells are powerful enough to kill you outright as long as you have half damage which is easy to get by the time you reach him. Not even Earthquake. Divine wave is his only dangerous move but it affects a portion of the screen and you can revive who got hit. He also doesn't use it too often. He has another 9999 melee where he wastes time approaching you with a sparkle hit but guts or a revive counters it and isn't nearly worth his while for the time he spends going for it. Real disappointing seeing my boy massacred like this.
A run that I abandoned on a PSP replay some time ago was a girls-only run. Rules are thus >can only recruit and play as girls >Can have no active male characters in your party >No over-the-top cheesing/grinding
On universe mode, I don't know if I could do it unless I could somehow skip Mars town. If you can skip Mars and get Picies or Opera then I can have some actual fighters in the party. My question would be, should male characters be allowed to be used as assault helpers? I call it the "girls just want to have fun" run.
>i guess they had to give him a sword since rena got the punchy weapons
Ironic considering the original art had Rena holding a sword. I guess Tri-ace realized it'd be a faux pas if their JRPG male protag didn't use a sword.
Using melee inside space ships would probably be preferred too wouldn't it? If you start blasting you might pop a hole somewhere. I imagine space ships can probably board each other.
Hand to Hand means sword in SO yes. The SO universe apparently operates with the mindset that dumbfucks end up in underdeveloped planets all the time. Raymond from SO6 was literally just a Space Fedex driver and he says that learning to at least use a sword was part of his survival training.
Nel had artes and symbology too. She falls off hard in the post game though.
Nel isn't top-tier, but she's still competitive. Definitely part of the better half of the roster of characters you can use in that game. She's a solid choice on your team if you don't want to use the broken easy mode characters like Cliff with all his stunlocking skills (lmao'ing at all the people that shit on him because muh MP death) and literally everything with Maria.
Nel and Albel were my favorite to play as. I was not good, and the CPU was better with Fayt and Cliff than I was.

Albel is probably the weakest "honest to play as" tier character, but I can't deny the guilty pleasure of playing as the twinky edgelord that may or may not be a homosexual.

Meanwhile, you can just wildly ungabunga and pewpew with Maria and Cliff with little to no effort
To be fair, his parents helped save another world, his dad was a gunmage, and his mother was a martial artist. He's pretty much a walking prodigy of badass, he just happens to specialize in swords instead and then spread Rena's genes through the family line for generations to come. He's more badass than his dad.
I played through Star Ocean 3 with Fayt's lead pipe, there's an ingame achievement for it. >suddenly remembers the SO3 achievements alone taking up an entire memory card of space because it saves a stupid png of every achievement you earn.
why does Star Ocean almost never do hybrid physical/magical characters? Tales does it all the damn time
I just wish Rena could combo the shit out of people with her fists like Farah does
early games separated gameplay clearly along melee/magic lines
also this is the game that has played "stranded on planet" for 6 games in a row. It's very experimental in some ways and sticks very closely to the formula in others
I was really hoping they leaned in on her supposed hybrid nature in the remake too.
Sadly she's just another mage but with a slightly better normal attack than other mages.
I hope 6 sets the trajectory for future mages in the series
Midas being able to guard and melee midcast and Malkya being a proper hybrid were both refreshing
6 does for a few characters
I'm not that far into it, so I don't know how viable it is, but there's a few skills that boost int after using str attacks and vice versa
I was about to ask about these actually:
The description says it adds a portion of ATK to INT, but the lower portion says it gives ATK up, which one is it?
The wording's kind of shit, but the lower portion's saying it adds 50% of atk to your int, it's not contradictory.
Magical Muscle buffs int skills
Clever Fighter buffs atk skills
It's one of those things that depends on character. Ray only has the int buff one and for some reason that's his only damage buff passive. It sucks because his two int skills are complete garbage.
Another question about 6 I had, how much do you need to level up the Crafting skills to get something useful out of them? At level 1-2 I get garbage with all materials and I still have a lot of the skill trees to invest into
Fortunately Elena's blessed with both versions, and both her offensive stats are high so the boost is fat either way. Some characters only have the passive for their worse damage type, or don't have one at all.
True. It's still a 10/10 game in the original playstation.
But the remake lets you skip cutscenes, fast travel and tells you when/where there are PAs available. For such a replayble game like this it's a godsend
You can do everything you can do in the original with just a fraction of time spent.
>But I'm autistic and I have i in me to spend hours going back and forth the entire world map just to get every small event
So do I but in the remake you can do that every time and even the most resilient person will probably pass going all the way back to Arlia again for the 3rd time on psx
Unlimited Gabriel from his bestiary position and xp value seems to be intended as last but they screwed him up and they screwed up EQ in the other direction making her too hard. The last post game content is an arena match called Twin Archangels which is Gabriella and Ethereal Queen at the same time.
I love these occasional little text fuckups. Nall on Rena's route refers to Claude as the leader a few times, and with the voice acting it immediately made me personify him as a hardcore misogynist, which I feel adds to his character.
I am sure all of those new parents and young children 100% consented to their mass extinction, with the only exceptions of a 700 million year old hick, a random journalist who will die soon from terminal clumsiness, and that fucking guy everyone hates.
Felt the same way. Arise's HP bag enemies and slog of a combat system really turned me off it. It was certainly not worth completing even though I pushed through.
Tales of arise really had the ideal release date. That and the combination of the paint filter making the graphics look better than it actually is made it a lot of sales.
Meanwhile SO6 release date was actively assassinated by square releasing like 20 other of their own rpgs within days/weeks from each other and between p5r, god of war ragnarok and the new pokemon. Also for some reason it became the targert of retards saying the graphics were ps3.
Yeah I figure that was pretty much it for me, although I try not to let graphics factor too much into my decisions
One thing I hate about SO6 so far though is how it doesn't let you go into areas you can see but the story doesn't want to let you in yet, like I find a cave and it's blocked with ??? as the name
I'm not gonna lie, I would have liked Arise if you could actually fucking combo the bosses in some way, shape or form. I don't know how they got that so wrong.
I finally beat the final boss, that was some horseshit
im new to this game and I dont know everything. I was getting cucked by rng because I couldnt compound the healing items that heals the entire team, and I didnt find any crazy armor or accessories
if your team gets hit by 2 purple rings and then star cross, you are just fucked and you will never be able to revive everyone and get rebuffed.
you have to manually spam heals and constantly pause buffer the entire fight so you can heal inbetween damage ticks so you are getting the most out of your healing
I dont mind a hard game, but the whole game was so easy and then they just kick you in the balls. you need to build that shit up, for the love of god. all the enemies in the tower were green.
what a terrible way to end such a cool game, I did enjoy it. is the cave of trials worth it or would it be more fun to just start a fresh playthrough and get different characters and endings? what do you get out of post game
I don't get your point, you can easily level it to a point where it's useful in the early game and then in Nede you should be able to max a few per character so you can get good stuff
Leveling crafting is really easy to cheese. >Level one character in Writing, one level in everything else. >Have them write books on everything. >Now every party member is level 7 in all skills. >Max out Determination to make leveling the rest of the skills very easy. >Max out Training to be level 70 by the time you reach the midway point.
As someone playing this game for the first time on Universe, that's more than enough for 80% of it, but you will still randomly get destroyed by things every once in a while. Like the robot boss when he went into "Don't stand next to me" mode. I only got one cheese item from a random Goodie Box too
[...]
You can craft crafting materials with other stuff, like Alchemy will give you infinite of all of the ore you need, getting the support items lets you not lose materials, Replication lets you straight up make more of most items in the game including like every consumable. This lets you just try shit and fill out the creation lists on everything to know what to combine to make the good stuff. Contraband is mostly money but there are a couple items that are "free level" and "free skill level"
I think cheesing game with meta in your first playthrough is meh
I mean Universe definitely feels balanced around using at least some of it, I didn't even savescum stuff like goodie boxes like some older guides suggest for cheesing the game
Just using Customization for yellow combinations at appropriate times is enough to give you good weapons for where you're at, I would hardly call that cheesing

wait, explain
when i was desperately looking up ways to cheese the final boss, I immediately thought of crafting, but I couldnt replicate certain materials and I used em up. I just yolo'd some 30% bullshit and failed, so is it just kind of over or does post game let you farm certain shit?
how do I even know what to combine? the game says that contraband creates OP items but I think they were only talking about infinite money, right? idk I expected 1% OP drops from contraband...

Even if you're not that optimal with your SP distribution (like "wasting points on skill levels 1-7) it should hardly brick you with the amount you can get due to Enlightenment and just levels in general, like I played it blind for the first time and stumbled upon the Writing method after Laceur when I already had a bunch of stuff leveled, but I still was easily able to get characters to level 10 for Crafting/Machinery etc.
30% crafts should never be necessary unless you want to savescum for OP crafts in the early game
Writing can't get you everything, you can't learn anything related to Train or Pickpocket for example, but you can make books for around half the skill list. It's extremely valuable for saving SP.

sure, just confirming that I wasn't missing anything
for the first few hours I didn't realize I could switch to harder sections of challenges
By this point you can buy all the materials you need from item shops for most professions, so you can start getting rare factors by abusing Remaking and savescumming (or just dumping more fol) >find a cheap armor you can buy, get 10 >use remaking with 5 fish to have good success rate of Special factors >spam repeat until you get 1 with Masterwork (when used as remake material increases chance of getting a rare factor) >Replicate that son of a bitch 20 times >Use that armor you now have infinite of as remake material for Buff type factors like hp or mp drain
Depending on how much time you wanna sit around doing shit like this (you can make different equipment with Masterwork the same way to prioritize other types of rare factors) you can get into a much more comfortable state with gear. If you have Precis you can go fuck up a raid boss on Expel somewhere to get her busted ass weapon, put hp drain on it, and just have her sit back and lob grenades for shitzillion damage and infini-leech for instance.
You can level Music and learn a song to increase the success rate of other skills while it's playing. Orchestra makes it so you use less materials, and Egg + Egg in Master Chef makes Plain Omelette which again increases the chance of getting rare factors with remaking.
>what do you get out of post game

This is the proper SO2 experience. He kicked everyone's ass back in 98. And then you learn he can get harder and that wasn't him at 100%. After steamrolling all his buddies and just getting roadblocked by him. 100% intentional.
Well for one, Tri-ace was originally the Enix side of things and wouldn't have anything to do with square for another 3-4 years. So more convergent evolution then Square brainrot.
Just embrace it. The PA in Linga, Rena meets Precis' father, and Claude meets Precis, and they both invite them into their house. It's obvious why Precis invites Claude, and you know she inherited that libidoI also have a significant problem
Jesus Christ, are the mages in the Symbology forest supposed to deal 900+ damage with Starlight on Galaxy difficulty?
It feels like I stumbled into an anti-piracy measure or something. Even taking a fireball head on deals like 150HP at most and the tornado dashes just bounce off, but this one spell one shots me every time. I'm managing to brute force it through just spamming attempts and getting lucky, but this doesn't feel like its supposed to be this way.
I had the same problem. Wait until you get to the Laceur continent.
I gave up on playing normally, got the sword of marvels and now I'm power levelling.
Turn on scouting and walk around for several hours until it gets mastered at random. It seems buggy too because the notification doesn't always appear.
no, the male protags dad was a party member in 1 (First Departure R would be the most current version of that game), but it's a series where you don't really need to play them in order, they're mostly standalone
>88 endings in the original >This remake claims there's 99
Man I should have left everyone at low values with each other and then just reloaded my save and used books to see the other ending combos.
I'm missing a Battle Skill but I have no idea what or where it could be, checking the Challenge Missions the only Book there that's left is for the Aid Formation (50k bonus spheres).
Are there any Secret Manuals that are easily missed?
I'm cleaning up all the random stuff before doing the Maze of Tribulations right now.
it helps you survive dying on 1 hp and also nullifies crits when they happen sometimes
you can also go into the status screen and press the help button
so what did you guys think of this remaster? I never played the original or evolution.
This was my first star ocean game and it left a damn good impression. are the other games good? are any of the games really different?
Really fucked the difficulty with the Challenges tab and Training/Enlightenment. The new graphics and QoL features like telling you when PAs are available and where are very nice however.
I played like 30-50% of 1 and 3, a tiny bit of 4, somehow never even tried 2 (I think the PSP version portraits filtered me) and I really loved this one
Enough to start 6 and I like it more than the others I played before, even though it is a bit janky in some areas
Plot and Characters may vary on your tastes. So I'll just talk gameplay.
1 is a product of its time. The PSP remake is SO2 (vanilla) reskinned.
You can't really go wrong with the gameplay of 2, 3, 4 and 6. Varies a bit each entry, but they're all fun times when you actually learn their respective systems.
I've replayed/played the entire series before 6 came out so it's still a little fresh from my memory.
Replayed 1, 2 ps1 claude, 2 psp rena, and 3.
4 and 5 was the first time.
I haven't beaten this remake yet but so far I can't see myself ever going back to the older versions. Spell pause being fixed and not having to open a guide the entire time are two very big improvements that is impossible live without.
If you're wondering about the other games, they're all very different except 1 and 2 psp versions.
1 is good but it has a lot more missables and autism in recruiting party members. Recruiting erys is retarded and impossible without a guide. The story is even weaker than 2 but if you like tales of phantasia, you might really enjoy it.
3 is a mixed bag, playing it recently just felt kinda clunky and the flaws are more apparent. Spamming skills is fun though. Also the crafting the most retarded in the series.
4 has so much japanese humour that a lot of people really hate it. Imo it's probably the most fun gameplay wise though. The story is also wack but if you liked SO1 you're going to love it instead.
5 is just an unfinished game.
6 is literally a "what if so2 was made today". It's also filled with references to all other SO which makes it feel like tri-ace's love letter to the series. Gameplay wise I really liked what they did but I feel like they kinda failed to convey and the design the gameplay properly that the nuances and quirks of the system like DUMA are lost to the player. They don't force you too much to use the system, I feel like you can just mash and spam blindside to all fights.
>unlock IC/S >start dumping points into det >no idea what the fuck I’m doing
I feel like I am wasting points.
Do these soecialties and skills require the rabdom geberated skills to work well
I'm using the bloody helm and you can't stop me
>no pregnant Precis ending
what were they thinking?
Instead you have her Welch ending where they're just trolling around for men and failing.
dumb femcels
Her ending with Ashton is trying to remove the dragons so they can have sex. She's trying.
Has anyone confirmed yet if you can get an all girl harem team with Precis still knowing Holo Holograph with NG+?
Nigga we've said like a dozen times you can.
yes
>28.850 sales on switch
>14.367 sales on ps5
>7.360 sales on ps4
Stole from the famitsu thread, seems pretty low
50USD for a 25 year old game still using the same sprites but on a 7th gen background is a pretty step fare on top of Star Ocean already being a super niche autism thing
I'd feel the same if the general reception wasn't so high. Steam reviews are really high on it.
the kind of people that spend 50 bucks for 25 year old game tend to fucking love it to death, so review is a bit of a selection bias
It's a great remake of the best SO game.
It's not perfect, but as far as replayable rpg ggo, it goes far.
You can even not actually play the game with bodyguard if you just wanna see the different endings.
not arguing that, I already bought this fucking game 3x full price each time and never regret any of it.
But I'm just saying, if I make up the average SO2R reviewer, there is no way the game is getting anything less than OP on steam.
I didn't bother reviewing though, only homosexual does that
>different endings
For Claude I saw that Rena has like four endings. What makes the difference on which one you get? Just affection?
i think it's 2x ending for who was chosen on main character selection and 2x ending for whether it's highest affection vs maxed affection
Fair enough. Are the affection items only 'set to 16 or 28' in this release? I could have sworn you could max/empty affection in previous incarnations with the items.
not sure, haven't tried using aphrodisiac or trust potion, maybe those actually add relation?
stay there nagger
In japan only? That does seem low. I'm gonna have to buy more copies as gifts
physical or digital?
Physical
What a complete waste of time. God I hate numbertrannies.
makes sense.
somebody posted some investor report from square enix in one of these threads I think that showed digital purchases in japan were way up while physical was trending way down compared to america, europe, and other parts of asia.
It's almost always physical which means it's completely inaccurate. I only buy digital these days.
I assume it's Japanese physical sales since they can't get digital sales numbers from Nintendo
famitsu is always physical sales. that's also why basing anything on famitsu sales is fucking retarded. its like half the sales in a single region of the world
thats japan only and physical only
im guessing it sold around 300k-500k combined
>playing Rena's route
>about to get Bowman instead of MSGK since I got her with Claude
>realize that I could have taken Celine because there's always 1 character overlap
>reload and have to spend an hour doing the "Rena is an idiot" arcs again
Why is Rena worst girl in her own game?
Based on the average of 30 sales for each review on Steam, it's sold just under 30k on Steam. Closing in on 100K for a remaster of a relatively niche PS1 JRPG isn't bad. And I'm willing to bet a lot of people are waiting for a sale given the MSRP.
>And I'm willing to bet a lot of people are waiting for a sale given the MSRP.
Yep that's me. I don't even know why I'm in these threads considering I'm not playing the game yet.
I was planning on waiting but I played the demo and really liked it. They just did a solid job and I hope more SNES and PS1 games get this treatment.
>reload and have to spend an hour doing the "Rena is an idiot" arcs again
>Why is Rena worst girl in her own game?
Is you use noel, Welsh has the strongest weapon in game, hands-down.
Especialyl with the new mechanics.
>The first time you meet him in Mars is the first time in two years and she had 0 news from him, i can understand how she felt and why she wanted to be with him for a while.
*Rena on Angel Feather Assault Formation
Anon, there's a skill to bypass the damage cap.
Even after clearing the cave of wisdom, she's the only one in my party who consistently clear out Universes encounters in the maze, solo.
>4x hp drain weapon
Works somewhat on universe, but It doesn't prevent people from getting dunked on in the maze. Welsh doesn't get staggered with two party members on, and i just spam fearie healing to top off every few second.
Claude pulls it off with his gun, but most others don't have the range.
Dias survives by draining and Full moon slash in groups, but ashton get killed mid-move at al ltimes.
I haven't use a lot of crafting yet, wanted to keep that for NG+
Nothing in my party strikes even half as hard as she does, wether or not she have that earring equipped.
My point is there's no way in hell precis is anywhere near her in term of firepower.
>take that and that and that
literally wipes out screens
And my point is that I'm not convinced that you need full 3 male party to use Welch's postgame weapon, as you can hit attack cap without it, not arguing how broken Welch is. If I had to create a tier list, her and Precis would be on top
her and precis would be on top indeed
Best characters, best ending
Why do those girls like dick so much?
Those fucking eyes really make me want to Jump! Thump!
Bad Precis. Down!
HhhEeeAaaRrrSss mister enemy~
>goes to a virtual world
>tries to fuck every male npc and tries to convince every female npc to do the same
Welch is so based, i would do the same
How come they won't let Welch lock herself in a room with younger versions of all the protags and let them run a train on her?
This is the most lustful look I’ve seen in a long time
>tfw no 3P ending with Claude, Welch and Precis
>Welsh doesn't get staggered with two party members on
Maybe you missed this part, it's the important part.
Noel comes in as a bonus if you wanna use more varied equipment.
Welsh outclasses anyone.
Precis Included, Claude and his gun included, despite the ridiculous range and damage it got now.
Ashton included, he got nerfed hardcore.
Casters are a different thing, clearing 40k screenwide damage is something else.
But if there's no melee in the team, casters can't do shit.
The maze on universe really doesn't fuck around this time.
I literally stated that having no stagger is the most important part, thrice now.
>Is you use noel, Welsh has the strongest weapon in game, hands-down.
This is the point I'm arguing. If you are not that anon, then let's just move on with our lives.
Dias with his auto crit sword and a lightspeed ring is still the best single target DPS in the game, wlech and precis still do better cc but its broken how the auto crits scale with some factors
Dias' normal is ass though
true but is still the top dps
dps is short for DIAS PLEASE STOP
she's named after the grape jelly company anon.
it's welch vineyard.
she's not from wales.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welch's
wait my joke about the gummies weren't a joke after all?
>got to Lacuer the other day
>enemies were kicking my ass, so I went back to Krosse
>discovered a dungeon
>got my ass kicked in said dungeon
>managed to make a new weapon and armor
>somehow manage to win some fights in dungeon
>go back to Salva, expecting some super boss in the form of the dragon
>actually manage to get through Salva, thinking it would be harder
>discover Ashton
>end up exploring the rest of the continent's areas, ending up gaining a ton of levels
>now slapping Lacuer area's shit
JRPG progression, baby. Feels good. Spoiled myself a little bit upon meeting Precis and found out that I missed the chance to get some characters. I guess I'll have to save them for Rena mode. Gonna go back and do the contest tomorrow. I like that I don't have to go in a particular order when it comes to events.
If it's not FF, Square doesn't care. Any sales are better than none.
I feel pretty bad about pirating it, but I just don't have the money at the moment
Don't think it means much. It's physical and people have been complaining about not being about to find it. I don't think they produced many units.
well I bet its low, I pirated it
can someone post the character guide to know how they can join your team please
>no
Any way to level down skills? Chisato's Gale Summersault was a lot better at level 1. Level 2 and 3 just add more, slower hits that don't get hitstun so they only get me killed.
Maybe a weird request, but does anyone have the SO3 item creation character portraits?
SO3 is the greatest Star Ocean and I'm tired of pretending otherwise!
I needs a remake though.
For me its the pvp arena mode and kicking my younger sisters butt
Also interested in this. Smug Cliff is the only one I've ever seen in good quality.
Only guy that gives Ray a run for top chad
Guy looks like he just landed a crit in SMT.
I'm genuinely terrified at what he might have created.
Just lookup SO3 sprites... or just ya know, rip em yourself???

Well what's the fucking point then, retard?
Space Elf Pussy will be the death of some of you
Why is she like this
You may as well ask why Celine is doomed to become a slampig
the titty tat all but guarantees it. I dont want her to become fat 🙁
I noticed this too. They made like half the script in this game into sexual innuendos.
The fuck, she didn't say that for me
She tends to fade into the background, but she's pretty based sometimes.
>Leon has the hearts
man of culture
So how do I get the shota to get with the JC chick? Potions?
What's the optimal sequence to rerolling Celine assuming I don't want to miss any time-gated stuff along the way?
turn off console
hit yourself on the head with a hammer
check if OCD is gone (repeat previous steps until it is)
play the game
twas a time when it was expected that teenaged boys were playing these games and expected some of them wanted to fuck their hot teachers
Not knocking it.
Precis isn't nearly as busted as those first two and honestly completely fine.
I say this as someone that ran Claude/Rena/Celine/Opera/Bowman/Earnest/Leon/Chisato for my first playthrough and beat the double arena with that team and no gimmicks.
Young Rena looks like a goblin from Chrono Trigger.
damn that's a cute sprite
I'm gonna be honest, I thought you mean this
bump
I spent 4 hours resetting to get nimble fingers on Claude and Animal Training on Celine, then another 3 hours grinding to get Determination and Resilience to 10 on Claude, Rena, Celine so that Enlightenment is level 7, and I got Godspeed to 10 on Claude and fast casting to level 10 on the girls.
Now I can have fun.
VEGH?
How do you get nimble fingers?
You have to finger Rena's mom
retard
just smiting
based retard wasting that much time on getting talent that doesn't fucking matter
>SO1:R and SO2:R are the sequence of events that happen outside the eternal sphere, after the events of SO3 recreate the known universe
>SO1:R and SO2:R are the sequence of events that happen outside the eternal sphere, after the events of SO3 recreate the known universe
How does Welsh count in then?
Also, i was about certain the angel is another player, and that the wise men were players from the 4d.
Does the same things happens, just with no "4d" involved?
to be explained in SO7 of course
Considering the rehashes of story i half-expect it to rehash 3's story
which would make sense if they're going to revisit the idea
dare to dream anon
I don't think the wise men were players. Most likely raid bosses or a returning bad guy that they recycled after keeping the game running for 3.7 billion years.
Seriously, the numbers the nede mayor tells you feel so surreal, did nobody at Tri-Ace realize just how much time 3.7 fucking billion years is?
japanese fiction writers don't understand numbers in general. they throw out nonsensical big numbers all the time
The only connection that the 4D Beings had with the Wisemen was that someone broke the lock that kept them in place. In the hypothetically timeline where the 4D Beings never existed then they probably just broke out by accident.
that was a retcon anyway, so we're just retconning the retcon
>SO2
>How did the Wisemen get out from their supposedly impossible to be break seal
>We don't know
>SO3
>Well you see, a third party messed with the seal on the Wisemen and that gave them the chance to get out
That's more of an elaboration than a retcon.
I would like to see an SO7 with the 4d Gabriel dev as a villain. Assuming Lucifer and Luther are a dev insert mechanic it would be amazing if they're both buddies handling different servers and both enormous pieces of shit.
>/vg/
New games have about a 2 weeks discussion period on Ganker before they become generals or should be ousted for hourly discussion.
Lurk two years before posting.
How good is Punchy Rena this time around?
She should have have physical skills so i can actually have fun while using her
Pretty much. Her single attack comes out fast enough, but she doesn't really combo with it, and it will fall behind because she gets no skills or decent weapons.
Punching with Bowman feels super good.
Are you lying to her?
>Get Celine's and Welch's best weapon from one goodie box
Nice
4U
buy Ads pajeet
What difficulty should I play in
galaxy
Wasn't using the portrait items meant to raise affection with the other characters? Is there no way to raise affection now other than grinding battles with them in your party?
You will read the slash fiction
rena = superman continues
I really like what they did with the portraits.
I don't like how they animate them
I wonder how ecstatic Renafags are for this remaster. she got such a massive glowup.
she lost a bit of her spunk
it's a nice blend between OG spunk and evo moeblob though, I'll admit
Easily my favorite version of her. And I say this as someone who actually really liked her Second Evolution design.
>somehow she's 18 in that version
whuut???
My original waifu has never looked better. I’m so happy she got the treatment she deserves.
our original waifu
I don't remember seeing the lower left one, but I guess it'd show more if she's your protagonist.
fun city
She does it before murdering the Wise Men in Fun City. IDK if she still does it during a Claude playthough. Pose looks like a nerd trying to be chuuni so I'm glad it has limited use.
Rena doesn't say anything during that bit if Claude is the main character. You get Claude with his sword out instead, which gets used a few times elsewhere too.
>am i cute anon?
this just reinforces the cock addiction thing that was posted last thread about her always picking up guys.
What did they actually mean by this?
cum dumpster
Glass cannon build
>all the best crafting is locked behind nede
I've been lied to
they have changed this in this remake, guilds only gives you missions, all skills are unlocked off the bat once you talk to the King in Krosse
only real nede bottleneck is Remaking's Re-creation gem, but given you only want to hardcore factors on endgame/postgame gear, it doesn't really matter
Book created on publication sets affection. Some potion from compounding also do this
I'm talking about things like lezard flask
>Book created on publication sets affection. Some potion from compounding also do this
Yes. They set the affection. They don't raise it above the number they state. So effectively those items are only good for lowering values.
Yeah?
I went in wit Claude and Rena solo, as the game wants you to.
Claude's gun is OP this time around, and with that and VICTORY i haven't had a hard time except against angel bitch.
Even at level 175 she'd wreck my shitt on Universe.
Considering how many people had the cheevo for ending the game as rena when i got it, i expected many more people to have done this
Is Precis really good late game or something?
It's been a bit since I've played and I haven't gotten this release yet, but from what I remember she's excellent if you set her up to spam her mid-range skills.
Gotcha, thanks anon
Precis's post game weapon has 2500 atk, a bunch of nifty hit/crt/guts and +200% bonus on special art damage, at the cost of +200% MP cost, but she also can use her HP instead of her SP
Easily the best fucking weapon in the post game
yes, also he was just copying my post from the previous thread
I mean she is no Chisato but she is good
I hate to tell you this anon but Chisato got butchered in the remake while precis made out like a bandit.
With only her post-game weapon and a Berserker Ring she throws out insane damage Forcefields which I believe multi hit AND launch. Rapid fire style. Precis is the best.
forcefield is hard cc, spam that shit and the enemy cant do anything, it also does fucktons of damage
How do I break the vidya
I'm getting tired of spoonfeeding, should there be some kind of sticky on the gamebreaking progression or should I just tell people to lurk moar?
Max Determination, Scouting, Customisation.
You want the super speciality Bodygard to farm and all that.
Go on, exit Krosse at level 100, only for Sasuke to one-shot you in the tourney.
What did the localizers do with this line? It's when Rena asks if he and his wife are like the young couple.
Literally the same thing.
I don't think the dialogues were changed much, every ones i've seen were the same or had the same general meaning.
WHO ARE YOU NOT QUOTING. YOU FUCKED UP, DELETE AND TRY AGAIN
eh I'll fix it next thread
I was promised Meracles version of this copypasta, I'm still waiting anon.
what does meracle have instead of an ocarina
don't think she has anything of note, but she does like story book so i guess you might be able to use "we gave her a hentai doujin and told her it's a training manual"
She also has an ocarina. Bros did you not play the game?
I played it at launch I don't remember shit
>Rena sees Claude and Bowman rating girls
>She gets pissy even though Claude says she's a 10
What the fuck is her problem?
you're objectifying women! check your privilege pig!
The implication that he was looking at other women at all. She's a trip.
He doesn't even have the courage to give her aher actual note, Bowman neither.
Yeah no, by her dialogue, she's mad that they rate her 10/10 instead of giving her a real note.
if you pick the ending where Bowman make up a story about giving them notes for their outward beauty, your friendship level isn't affected by the PA.
What the fuck are you talking about? Claude's in love with her and she's mad at them for checking out girls in general. And they're called scores, not notes.
seriously though I can't make the most broken shit without all the supporting tools
>Rena actually tattles on Bowman to his wife
What an evil person.
That scene is great though, it allows Bowman to actually boss his wife around, and she clearly enjoy it.
>and she clearly enjoy it.
I don't know if the localization did that but she's very clearly messing with him in moon.
That's what i meant by it.
She's having fun making fun of him.
I'm 98% certain the localization get pretty much every scene through as intended.
Point and laugh at this dork
Built for Raymond
I don't think we're ready for an ultra autistic gigachad Kenny
damn they made claude's dad just the gigachad meme
Why do JRPGs hate debuffs so much? I leveled up all Rena’s skills and she still can’t inflict debuff
Play SMT if you want debuffs.
Or paper Mario.
I fucked that child 20 years ago and I'll do it again now.
Precis - Roaring Burst Puncher + 5% mp steal + Robbie's Super Beam for an insane 70k-99k per hit
So if this is a combo what's the armor and accessories lookin like?
Getting ready for the maze on universe and I wanna start my hours of crafting

i broke the game wide open, op. get fucked.
where do i get more dias
>rena nosebleed
I gave my dias only Backstab, and Claude only Godspeed, if you get my meaning.
>chisato recording
Oh yes, i'm very RPwise when it come to giving skills in star Ocean.
In Exalted, the Sun has a specialisation in Ride(Luna).
Yes, i love that kind of innuendo.
no part of that middle line made any sense to me
This is interesting. How is this done? I've not played with Dias yet, is it a KM?
he's just moving so fast it looks like there's 3 of him.
10 seconds
>claude chadwalking through a dungeon while his harem scampers about killing enemy encounters
it truly was the star ocean: the second story...
No, really, I can't be the only one that notices the resemblance.
Chrono Trigger R bu the same team confirmed!
space goblin pussy?
>you can beat the game with a party less than 8 people
Was this in the original game?
You can beat the game with just Claude and Rena.
Yes

It literally sold out. That's all SE had produced.
Thoughts on OG Ronyx?
HOLY SOVL!
Rika, Halloween's over! Change out of that silly outfit!
If you told me he was half robot I would believe you. His chest and arms look inhuman.
How do I catch the mega giant fish? Do I have to be at max fishing level and have some super rod? My fishing is only level 7
>have some super rod?
Yes. Talk to Reel.
Press R1, it'll tell you if you have a chance and what bait to use to get a better chance.
Wow thank you
Super rod and bait, open the fishing menu with r1, for some reason this menu is like the only thing never shown in a tutorial to my knowledge.
I didn’t even know it existed until I idled by a fountain once.
Reel may or may not have mentioned it, I can't remember

what's the most effective way of getting the desired factors on equipment, bros?
Prayer.
I plan on it
Just some gathering stars and def ups probably...
I feel like blood helmet/mp heal is better, no?
bloody armor/helmet are pretty common drops later on. i have a set of 4 from just fucking around grinding
Having no value for your own time.
Savescumming.
factor grinding was a mistake
just put on the bloody armor.
how get bloody armor
I just got one from a drop outside of Centralpolis.
You can make it really easily.
what's the recipe
Blacksmith with damascus.
cool, thanks
Steal it from knights on nede
Where do I start with item creation?
Master chef for nectar to sell for fol and get % chance, thief/contraband ignore and other mechanically useful food like fish+fish = 2 sp
Familiar to buy things you can't get early, survival to get your first pet food to buy 20 more to loop infinitely
Writing to bump a lot of skills to 7 for fol instead of sp
Art 4 clay for goodie boxes for these
Alchemy to get ores
Customize, Craft, and Blacksmithing to make your gear
Duplication to make certain things faster
etc etc
Near everything will push you towards overpowering the game
>turn Train on and equip the EXP Up formation
>do Marze Forest and entire Ashton quest
>Claude goes from 16 to 47 just from that
they made the game even easier to break somehow, holy shit
>Bodyguard with +15/30% chance rings
>Watch a movie and gain levels
Comfy breaking
does leveling Bodyguard do anything?
Higher activation chance.
for the ending i got a scene with celine and ernest getting intimate. wasnt he married to opera? tf is going on here..
Not married. It's onesided and Ernest isn't that into her.
>searches the galaxy for a man
>looks all over expel
>finally finds him
>he's with celine
He only gets married to Opera in their paired ending.
Is there no other way to get the game-breaking items besides pickpocket? I don't want to do relationship management just for something I could easily create with IC.
Master Chef lets you make Muscat Jelly so you can pickpocket as much as you want. You can also make Konjac Jelly to use Contraband without worry.
one thing i can think of is getting goodie boxes from lvl 4 machinist
Writing unironically writing. I started my second playthrough fresh, rushed writing early, I've just landed on Lacour and I have level 7 in like 70% of the skills on all characters and only level 30. It's frankly ludicrous, there are very few specializations I'm not level 7 in atleast because of it. Don't even miss that I don't have pickpocket.
How different is the Iscera Queen fight from original SO2 and the Remake?
On my PS1 playthrough I was retarded and instantly dismissed Bloody Armour as shit so I beat the Queen as a jarpig peon would.
Any wiki on which character has the best talent for each skill? Also on how to unlock their hidden talent, too?
Just writing leon and mech opera? If you don't count craft having mixed list and customize is per weapon.
Entire website got archived iirc due to fandom buying them
>one day all this beautiful autism will be lost to the sands of time
I use to print these guide out and read at night.
>many of those guides are older than most of this shit board
I remember A_l_e_x being a big deal and then people realized he was just buying official guides and copying them.
that's still useful though
That's not too bad. He was paying for it himself to give it for free and get forum clout
He was only copying stats and hidden values IIRC. Besides what wrong with the Replication skill?
>not downloading txt faqs to your own tips & tricks folder
I used to do this for all my favorite games up til the 7th gen.
I printed the FAQs out and kept them in binders. No idea why the hell I thought it was necessary, especially since you can't ctrl+f a piece of paper.
The Challenge menu in this game feels like cheating. Fol is never a factor when the game just throws literally millions at you for just playing the game.
does feel a bit that way. Though, I'm not going to complain when challenge give me items I can't get early game otherwise
where do i get the Valkyrie boots?
Is there any point in getting multiple Thief's Gloves or any other Key Item? I've noticed a lot of them in Pickpockets and I figure it's just for flavor but I thought I should ask.
Just flavor. Having more than one specialty item doesn't do anything.
>Finish everything else
>Go fight Unlimited Gabe
>Beat him on the first try even though I forgot to swap from the EXP formation to anything actually useful
Damn, that was way easier than Iseria Queen. You just get Celine to use Reflection and his spells mostly stop being a threat.
>Forgot to turn on OBS after restarting my PC
Damn, now that one fag will think I used bloody armour.
They turned him into a joke in this game. He's not 1/10th the threat he was in the original damn shame. I don't know how they fucked him up this badly.
Probably a consideration for letting the player still easily see lots of different endings after activating him.
Damn, really?
I consider it a rite of passage to get fucked by unlimited indy at least once, forced to go through the cave of trials and gain a hundred levels and broken equips to get strong enough.
Didn't they change the COT in this to only be accessible after you beat him? They probably had to nerf him so he wouldn't brick normalfag games if they accidentally unlocked him.
No, you have to beat the normal version to unlock CoT and the unlimited version in the first place now
None of his spells are powerful enough to kill you outright as long as you have half damage which is easy to get by the time you reach him.
'23 > '98 > special needs finger paints > '07
>Finish beating all the bonus bosses and challenges
>Pic related is all that's left
Grind...
>Catch a record-size fish of every type!
the second to the last group battle is still locked for me despite clearing MoT, how do you unlock that?
Need to beat Unlimited Gabriel and then load the clear save.
wich star wud u ocean
thinking about watching star trek, starting with TOS (I've watched S1 and parts of S2 before)
You can just start with TNG if you want.
Or if you want a better Star Ocean 4 you could watch Enterprise
But I like comfy TOS
the submarine battle episode was really good
Make sure you watch the animated series then
what order? after TOS S3 and before movies?
Yeah pretty much
should I skip generations
Nah man watch it.
Really the only Star Trek you should skip is Picard S1 and 2 and Star Trek Discovery
I heard S3 is good but won't I need to watch S1 and S2 to get there
or can I just go by what I know from RLM
>enterprise
>doesn't have meracle or myuria
>but has a vulcan in heat
Is there a way to remove the 9999 damage limit?
You unlock a combat skill from an achievement for a certain amount of total damage done
I see. Shame it doesn't apply to Raymond's 9999x2 damage Assault.
yeah, the extra character assist fell off pretty hard once you get break damage limit
Yeah, you can still use buffs/heals on them and they can be decent for breaking
one of the bonus skill does that
gg ez
celine facesitting celine facesitting celine facesitting celine facesitting celine facesitting celine facesitting celine facesitting
Which Star Ocean girl would be the best at nursing handjobs?
Also Celine I want those gloves wrapped around my penis
With forced rimjob if you struggle and try to escape. Take the facesitting quietly.
>reading this thread and finding out my boys ashton and chisato got thrown into the dumpster
No..... noooooo!!!
A run that I abandoned on a PSP replay some time ago was a girls-only run. Rules are thus
>can only recruit and play as girls
>Can have no active male characters in your party
>No over-the-top cheesing/grinding
On universe mode, I don't know if I could do it unless I could somehow skip Mars town. If you can skip Mars and get Picies or Opera then I can have some actual fighters in the party. My question would be, should male characters be allowed to be used as assault helpers? I call it the "girls just want to have fun" run.
>chisato's weapons are guns
>but her attacks are melee
Am I missing something?
Claude went from someone who's probably never used a sword to being complimented by the best swordsman on the planet in the span of probably 2 weeks
>SO2 was an isekai all along
I'm not going to get into the semantics of isekai because every time we go there shit gets retarded
but yes. It's Isekai/shojo boyharem
Isekai are about the MC getting stuck in an unfamiliar world, so.... technically yeah.
Officer school teaches everyone how to use a sword or something, just in case they get stranded on some underdeveloped planet.
>hand-to-hand
>sword
Well your using your hand to hold the sword
>gun combat is also now hand-to-hand, since you hold the gun in your hand
Yeah absolutely
i guess they had to give him a sword since rena got the punchy weapons
at least Fayt got VR training, all I'm asking is for the flimsiest excuse like ilia made him take kendo lessons
Uncle Roddick trained him in the way of the blade
what did aunt millie teach him
Pick up artistry against blue haired specimens
claude didn't any help. all he had to do was show off his "sword of light" and rena was already wet
If Claude just kept playing Hero, I bet she would have ignored dias at the tournament
How to pick up alien girls
Maybe Ronyx talked about Roddick, Ashlay and Cyuss? So child Claude trains swordsmanship because he thinks it's cool
>i guess they had to give him a sword since rena got the punchy weapons
Adray is just unsalvageable though.
I'd personally rate the SO3 roster like this
You didn't beat the game:
Maria
Cliff
Fayt
Honest gameplay:
Nel
Albel
Sophia
Peppita
Mirage
You are using them just to prove a point:
Roger
Adray
Nel and Albel were my favorite to play as. I was not good, and the CPU was better with Fayt and Cliff than I was.
Albel is probably the weakest "honest to play as" tier character, but I can't deny the guilty pleasure of playing as the twinky edgelord that may or may not be a homosexual.
And his Airslash may not exactly be the the most meta or effective skill, but I'll be damned if spamming endless Airslashes with his Airslash of Fury isn't fun as hell.
I forget what move it was, but the one that made him zip in a Z pattern across the field was my go to. He might be an edgelord fag, but I thought it was fun.
>but the one that made him zip in a Z pattern across the field was my go to
That's the one using his claws right?
Yeah, that one.
I get Peppita every playthrough, her counters are fun when you get good with her and she's got some super strong specials.
>Peppita
I blame her for starting me on the more degenerate path of my 2D tastes.
But on gameplay, her special where she summons that weird mascot thing that MP rapes everything to death was wild.
Doesn't Roger have the highest attack power in the game? Or did I get some sort of fluke with my playthough?
I dunno. He probably has pretty good str base stats or something. But his specials leave much to be desired.
>Peppita
>Honest
She's actually up there with Cliff and Maria as utterly degenerate in the hands of a skilled player to the point where that many of them agree that the strongest team is Cliff/Maria/Peppita.
>in the hands of a skilled player
And therein lies the rub. She requires a bit of finesse to reach her maximum potential.
I played through Star Ocean 3 with Fayt's lead pipe, there's an ingame achievement for it.
>suddenly remembers the SO3 achievements alone taking up an entire memory card of space because it saves a stupid png of every achievement you earn.
>celine doesnt have animal training
is it over?
wait what the fuck, this is my permanent memory of Ilia's design, but turns out this was only used for SO1:FD (not even FDR)
my life is a lie
why does Star Ocean almost never do hybrid physical/magical characters?
Good to know, that seems kind of useless though since Elena only has 2 int skills
Adray is sort of like that in Star Ocean 3. He's got a mix of both artes and symbology.
He's also the worst character in the game.
Nel had artes and symbology too. She falls off hard in the post game though.
when's that Blue Sphere remake happening
I've never recruited Precis.
But I've also never recruited Opera and
Ernest.
Who should I go for?
Opera, Precis, and Ernest. In that order.
What the fuck was the PA with Mariana and Rena at fun city where she dies?
A local shop here has SO5 PS4 for $10. Is it worth it?
it's the most "it exists" game to ever be released
still an enjoyable enough time though
For $10 most games are worth at least checking out.
It wouldn't be worth it even if they were paying you instead.
this game already exists on psx and there's nothing wrong with it
Is there anything past Iseria Queen in this version?
Unlimited Gabriel from his bestiary position and xp value seems to be intended as last but they screwed him up and they screwed up EQ in the other direction making her too hard. The last post game content is an arena match called Twin Archangels which is Gabriella and Ethereal Queen at the same time.
Yeah Limiter Off Gabe was kind of a bitch if you put reflect on, and it was the arena that I was forgetting about, thanks.
I love these occasional little text fuckups. Nall on Rena's route refers to Claude as the leader a few times, and with the voice acting it immediately made me personify him as a hardcore misogynist, which I feel adds to his character.
Well Nall is space Jim Jones.
You have to expect these kinds of thing
I am sure all of those new parents and young children 100% consented to their mass extinction, with the only exceptions of a 700 million year old hick, a random journalist who will die soon from terminal clumsiness, and that fucking guy everyone hates.
>that fucking guy everyone hates.
Hey, there's one person who doesn't hate him and he's too fucking dense to realize it.
they elected him as mayor, that's enough consent for me - Nall
It's ogre
>still only 3 hours in
I will get there soon. I will find time to binge this
How does NG+ work in this remake? Can you start as the other character with all your levels/skills/items intact?
When THE FUCK Square gonna use all of those Analmemes models for a new game?
RELEASE SO3 REMAKE SQUARE YOU COWARDS
Why doesn't Ilia appear?
Too busy fucking the dog
I'm so mad at myself for getting suckered in to buying Tales of Arise, but ignoring SO6 until now
Felt the same way. Arise's HP bag enemies and slog of a combat system really turned me off it. It was certainly not worth completing even though I pushed through.
weren't those two pretty far apart
Like a year, but idk the two franchises are kinda similar in my mind as AA JRPGs
well, live and learn. now you know better
To be fair, Tales of Arise is fucking gorgeous. That's one of the only good things I can say about it.
That planet in SO6 should have been bigger, I liked it a lot.
Should have played on Universe and actually dived into the crafting systems from the start for maximum fun
>actually dived into the crafting systems from the start
How? If you will have it at lvl 6-7 at best.
I don't get your point, you can easily level it to a point where it's useful in the early game and then in Nede you should be able to max a few per character so you can get good stuff
I think cheesing game with meta in your first playthrough is meh
True, but we're trying to help out a guy who couldn't even think to reload his save after wasting a ton of mats.
I only got one cheese item from a random Goodie Box too
You can craft crafting materials with other stuff, like Alchemy will give you infinite of all of the ore you need, getting the support items lets you not lose materials, Replication lets you straight up make more of most items in the game including like every consumable. This lets you just try shit and fill out the creation lists on everything to know what to combine to make the good stuff. Contraband is mostly money but there are a couple items that are "free level" and "free skill level"
wait, explain
when i was desperately looking up ways to cheese the final boss, I immediately thought of crafting, but I couldnt replicate certain materials and I used em up. I just yolo'd some 30% bullshit and failed, so is it just kind of over or does post game let you farm certain shit?
how do I even know what to combine? the game says that contraband creates OP items but I think they were only talking about infinite money, right? idk I expected 1% OP drops from contraband...
this anon basically explained how to level
Even if you're not that optimal with your SP distribution (like "wasting points on skill levels 1-7) it should hardly brick you with the amount you can get due to Enlightenment and just levels in general, like I played it blind for the first time and stumbled upon the Writing method after Laceur when I already had a bunch of stuff leveled, but I still was easily able to get characters to level 10 for Crafting/Machinery etc.
30% crafts should never be necessary unless you want to savescum for OP crafts in the early game
not that anon but just to make sure I'm not missing anything: there are many skills that aren't covered by writing, right?
Yeah a few at least, just get yourself to a shop that sells pens and spam a ton of books once you have a character at 10 writing so you max out
Writing can't get you everything, you can't learn anything related to Train or Pickpocket for example, but you can make books for around half the skill list. It's extremely valuable for saving SP.
sure, just confirming that I wasn't missing anything
for the first few hours I didn't realize I could switch to harder sections of challenges
By this point you can buy all the materials you need from item shops for most professions, so you can start getting rare factors by abusing Remaking and savescumming (or just dumping more fol)
>find a cheap armor you can buy, get 10
>use remaking with 5 fish to have good success rate of Special factors
>spam repeat until you get 1 with Masterwork (when used as remake material increases chance of getting a rare factor)
>Replicate that son of a bitch 20 times
>Use that armor you now have infinite of as remake material for Buff type factors like hp or mp drain
Orchestra makes it so you use less materials, and Egg + Egg in Master Chef makes Plain Omelette which again increases the chance of getting rare factors with remaking.
once I got an aeterna with masterwork
not sure what I was supposed to do with that
>what do you get out of post game
post game is basically where you get your revenge for those mad feelings you've built up. You start your weird crafting journey and start breaking the game over your knee.
This is the proper SO2 experience. He kicked everyone's ass back in 98. And then you learn he can get harder and that wasn't him at 100%. After steamrolling all his buddies and just getting roadblocked by him. 100% intentional.
How did this scientist get so fucking swole and why are all our biologists so shit by comparison?
I'm choosing shop with anime chick in armory bikini. Does the choice even matter?
what's the best cheese currently?
I know bloody armor + sword of life or something
Why is Noel's sprite a Fellpool but his portrait a Nedian?
he just has really hairy elf ears.
ClauDias OTP
what happens if you stay? I just left.
they talk about parfaits and how dias doesnt look like the type to have a sweet tooth and then all three of them have their bond level go up
>talking about sweets
so dias really is gay
How do I heal NTR rot?
>Star Ocean 2
>Bahamut's Lagoon
>Takahashi Tetsuya
What the fuck was wrong with Square? Why was that full of NTR cucks
It's obvious why Precis invites Claude, and you know she inherited that libido I also have a significant problem
You didn't like celine or ashton?
Elemental Resistances are very important.
Interrupt spell casters as much as you can.
And yes, that's normal.
Almost. I'm at Gabriel Celeste. She's wrecking me though. I can't remember how I beat her in the original.
I’m gonna give 4 another try after I finish this. I only had the PS3 version before, but I went ahead and got the PS4 remaster on sale.

Immerse yourself in the cringe. Let it flow through you. Become one with it.
Edge is made for nappy time.
RAISE
DEAD
How to obtain Wild Instict hidden talent? Only Scouting requires it and I'm not sure what you are supposed to do.
Turn on scouting and walk around for several hours until it gets mastered at random. It seems buggy too because the notification doesn't always appear.
>Turn on scouting
For the character that has yet to learn it, that is. It has to say their name as the set character.
>walk around for several hours until it gets mastered at random
Play Orchestra while running around and it's a few minutes
>Can't use Counterfeit Medals once over level 100
fug
I'm gonna play SO4 after my Rena run and no one can stop me, not even nappy time!
What if..... sex with Celine?
>t. leon
>Turning off Training right before the final boss.
are the previous titles (if any) required to play this game? and is this game good enough to put time into?
no, the male protags dad was a party member in 1 (First Departure R would be the most current version of that game), but it's a series where you don't really need to play them in order, they're mostly standalone
What are the best all male x all female teams?
Bonus points if it's only older characters instead of teen/e-boi/shota garbo
>you can unlock the raymond israeliteel before the laeticia israeliteel
>game still won't let you use it
Raymond is the assist George Costanza gets every time. George, you will in fact be with Raymond.
>88 endings in the original
>This remake claims there's 99
Man I should have left everyone at low values with each other and then just reloaded my save and used books to see the other ending combos.
I'm missing a Battle Skill but I have no idea what or where it could be, checking the Challenge Missions the only Book there that's left is for the Aid Formation (50k bonus spheres).
Are there any Secret Manuals that are easily missed?
I'm cleaning up all the random stuff before doing the Maze of Tribulations right now.
And I just realized I could just post a picture of the ones I do have.... anyone know which I'm missing?
the one from the survival battle at fun city
Oh, that explains it. Thanks anon
is Guts how resistant you are to being broken?
Iirc guts gives you a chance to survive a deadly hit and leaves you with 1 hp instead
it helps you survive dying on 1 hp and also nullifies crits when they happen sometimes
you can also go into the status screen and press the help button
GUT+leech is how you destory universe mode without bloody set
>armor that sets STM to 0
What does STM actually do?
Recover HP and MP after every battle
Do the MP cost reduction rings stack?
It's not hard to test
Something I find hard to test: do the hasten speech accessories work if you're already at level 10?
No, skill levels don't go over 10.
so what did you guys think of this remaster?
5 is generally just a strange anomaly of a game.
They don't force you too much to use the system, I feel like you can just mash and spam blindside to all fights.
>unlock IC/S
>start dumping points into det
>no idea what the fuck I’m doing
I feel like I am wasting points.
Do these soecialties and skills require the rabdom geberated skills to work well
SP is infinite, it's just what do you want to use first.
Talents? They raise success, but you can rng unlock them by doing the thing.
Thanks anon.
Do I need to pickpocket a bunch to get nimble fingers?
>Midas in 6 gets Hispanicule as a fire spell
>doesn't scream it at the top of his lungs when casting it
such a waste
How does the game react and move to you not having party members?
please respond
This might end up being the last one boys.
Make it count.
