there is a dxvk fork for windows.
its not updated as quickly as the actual dxvk but it works for most games and has tremendous performance increases in dx12 games.
>a game running on linux through a wine translation layer and a vulkan translation layer runs faster than native
fucking why.
this isn't dxvk dxvk only supports up to dx11 its vkd3d it should work on windows in theory although i tried dropping the dlls in my starfield and the game wont open, the dlls are here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/releases i know vkd3d has some nvidia issue atm but it might work with nvidia cards
https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton >vkd3d-proton does not supply the necessary DXGI components on its own. Instead, DXVK (2.1+) and vkd3d-proton share a DXGI implementation.

NVIDIA drivers are the same on both so that's very likely. It's probably going to be a disaster on AMD's Windows drivers too, they're absolute shit for translation layers and emulators.

His post lends credence to OP as well. GPU is pegging at 100% but using way less power than it should? That's the ysgae overhead of these endless useless calls rather than actual usage that would pull up power draw
>Couldn't they just do the same Vulkan rewrapping on Windows?
Probably. But using compatibility layers made primarily for Linux really fucks up their "Linux can't run games" narrative.
I doubt it actually runs "twice as fast" in scenarios that aren't cherry-picked.
But I have absolutely no doubt that Bethesda would do moronic shit like misusing API calls.
Actual pajeet code base.
I've been running linux since 2007 and I still find pirating games on it more of a hassle than windows.
I'm sure that's doubly true for anyone from Ganker new to the os.
>I still find pirating games on it more of a hassle than windows
Fire up bottles, configure it to use dxvk and wine-ge, throw in pirated GoG windows installer and run it installing the game into the bottle, play.
Bethesda has one of the most incompetent software engineers in the industry, the problem is not the engine, both Rockstar(Bully) and Larian(Ego Draconis) managed to implement dozens of features never found in TES or Bethesda Fallout, like playable dragons, ladders, and vehicles.
A long time ago virginity on both sides was considered a virtue. You look down on it now because your heart contains evil and you're seduced by momentary pleasures of the flesh. Repent, sinner, and install gnu/linux.

I thought this just causes less crashing on Nvidia GPUs. Mind you I haven't even had many crashes in the first place. Highly doubt it'll ever come close to doubling FPS. DX9 games sure but only because modern graphics drivers have way better optimization for Vulkan than for DX9.
>dogshit frame rate
It's funny that everywhere on planets is incredibly smooth 120fps at 4K, but in space I get a 15fps slideshow even with all graphics options set to potato at 1080p, especially in asteroid fields.
The one new thing their diversity hires add to the game runs like absolute trash and doesn't even look as good as a game released almost 10 years ago. This is the future of the western game industry.
I'm on a 3070 and 9700k and I just think it has poor CPU optimization in cities. Game runs fine in most areas but cities and space it drops below 60 with the DF optimized settings. I've had like 2-3 crashes in like 14hrs of playtime at this point. Not a ton but more than zero.
>New account >1 post >Zero benchmark proof, just 2 numbers >Indian name >Absolutely no one else on the testing page reporting anywhere near double digit FPS gains, let alone a full 100% improvement
Uh huh
Don't bother with trying to use DXVK development builds on windows, 95% of them are broken to the point of not working at all or not really providing any of the intended performance gains. The Windows port is a secondary project that the devs don't really focus on. Just wait for the finish version 2.10 to come out.
Its probably more of a gain on some lower tier cpu, like that shitty quad core they listed as a minimum requirement.
Anyhow I would like the 8fps bonus. And a locked steady 60fps.
There is always a reason for this shit, though. It's not like they don't know it exists. Addressing it would likely lead to more instability. Bunch of smart-asses that think they know better than the engineers that spend years balls-deep in the code. The engine is ancient and probably using all sorts of loopholes and workarounds in order to function on modern hardware, that also make it incompatible with other things. The inner workings of software - especially on this scale - is not so simple that it can be summed up in a forum post. I absolutely guarantee Bethesda has known about this since mid-2020 at least.
Not even defending Bethesda. This is just insight from a dev. There is always some smart ass that thinks they can fix everything but doesn't know why the code is structured a certain way (because they didn't construct it), so they end up breaking 10 other things or exposing vulnerabilitys and security issues.

>There is always a reason for this shit, though.
Yeah, the reason is because for Creation Engine 2 they completely replaced the renderer with a new third party middleware called The Forge that has never been used for anything serious before. It's a mess of a renderer with a ton of optimization problems and they're all present in Starfield
The repo has no proof of this claim. In fact the very few people posting about performance there are getting around 5 fps better performance. Not OPs bullshit double FPS claim
then how come it runs like complete ass on steam deck? it runs on Loonix
So a Steam Deck with Windows installed runs it at 60 fps? >no, I was comparing the handheld to my desktop PC and pretending the only difference is the operating system
Fuck off then.
It's just a random video running Starfield on a 3700x/6600xt and has nothing to with it. Sometimes I wonder if you retards just pretend to be fucking retarded.
As long as you don't show me anything other than a post by a random redditor saying questionable things without even a fucking screenshot, I prefer to believe that the video is a better representation of reality.

So does this mean a steam deck runs chudfield better than a 4090 on windows?
No retard
>anon dropped his boku
You know you can use dxvk on Windows right? Takes 2 seconds to set up.
BASED TODD
FORCING WINFAGS TO UPGRADE
YOU HEARD THE MAN, GET YOURSELF A BETTER COMPUTER
The long term skyrim playerbase was carried by modders and tinkerers
If this gains traction and pulls a lot of somewhat tech literate people to try and game on Linux due to Starfield, I will personally kiss Todd's Hand and get the biggest paypiggie version of TES6
>DUH YEAR OF LINUX DESKTOP THIS BOY BOYS!
No need for it, just a tad more support like what Valve did for proton and similar and we're in the golden age
It'd be a monkey paw moment if Linux becomes a mainstream choice like macs with a share of over 10%, literal floodgates opening to the most retarded lowlifes on earth shitting up search results forever
>literal floodgates opening to the most retarded lowlifes on earth shitting up search results forever
already happened when that one indian dude pushed whatever upstream on github to 300,000 people all at once, i don't recall the details because it was horrifying and hilarious
That was epic games retardation, he tagged the group they made everyone join to contribute, usually only maintainers would get notifications on normal merge requests/issues and similar
Those retards grifting with some readme changes to try and pad their profiles existed for a long time though, be it some epic games repo or whatever, not tied to an OS
Or modders will just stick to their working OS that runs everything they want and use DVXK Windows for the same benefit
1. You shouldn't want tech-illiterate people on Linux. It's not for them and they will just become more of those people who try to derail every Linux thread with their sob stories.
2. Bethesda Game Stuios is a subsidiary of Bethesda Softworks is a subsidiary of Zenimax Media is a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios is a subsidiary of Microsoft. If this game becomes known for running well on Linux, they're probably going to start pushing sneaky patches to break Proton/Wine support.
They can't win against autismos
>they're probably going to start pushing sneaky patches to break Proton/Wine support
They did this with Halo Infinite. It used some undocumented NT kernel function for no reason other than breaking Wine.
>somewhat tech literate
>literate
Oh. Well okay, I did misread that as "somewhat tech illiterate", but I don't care, because
is right.
t. Linux gamer.
Is there any video showing this?
No, because it's bullshit.
I can see it running better with proton, but 2x is insane.
Karryn's Prison already ran better for me on Linux compared to Windows
>game is bottlenecked by every CPU in existence
>redditor blames GPU driver calls
reddit moment
>runs faster in linux
straight up lie
the game is trash but your morony smells more disgusting than the pajeets that coded this pile of moronshit
>game is bottlenecked by every CPU in existence
https://twitter.com/CapFrameX/status/1698043738000425355
Dunning-kruger doesn't know what he's talking about, how surprising
His post lends credence to OP as well. GPU is pegging at 100% but using way less power than it should? That's the ysgae overhead of these endless useless calls rather than actual usage that would pull up power draw
Yeah, but the game isn't CPU bottlenecked
Wow Todd is such a great guy he reduced the power consumption on the 4090!
>compared to Windows
Couldn't they just do the same Vulkan rewrapping on Windows?
>Couldn't they just do the same Vulkan rewrapping on Windows?
Probably. But using compatibility layers made primarily for Linux really fucks up their "Linux can't run games" narrative.
I'm not even a CS fag but that's the power of the pajeet outsourcing saars
I obviously mean stuff with cracks and drm.
Todd bros? our response?
Bethesda has one of the most incompetent software engineers in the industry, the problem is not the engine, both Rockstar(Bully) and Larian(Ego Draconis) managed to implement dozens of features never found in TES or Bethesda Fallout, like playable dragons, ladders, and vehicles.
A virgin that's twice as fast is still a virgin LMAO LINSUX
A long time ago virginity on both sides was considered a virtue. You look down on it now because your heart contains evil and you're seduced by momentary pleasures of the flesh. Repent, sinner, and install gnu/linux.
based todd dabbing on winbabs
But his piece of shit only runs better on proton because of open source devs, not because of his incompetent pajeet code monkeys

I knew neckbeards and programming socks would figure out how to make the game run properly within about two weeks

Nice proof and performance metrics you got, definitely real and not another chudix cultist lying to inflate his joke of an OS.
Winchud defence force has logged in for their shift. Good morning saars
Sir, I will redeem the free frames
User with 1 post as well. Lmao never doubt the depths a lincuck chud will go to pretend his server OS belongs in the home.
I thought this just causes less crashing on Nvidia GPUs. Mind you I haven't even had many crashes in the first place. Highly doubt it'll ever come close to doubling FPS. DX9 games sure but only because modern graphics drivers have way better optimization for Vulkan than for DX9.
>Less crashing
Huh? I've had 0 crashes in 37 hours on my 3090. The games issue isn't crashing, it's the dogshit frame rate
>dogshit frame rate
>New account
>1 post
>Zero benchmark proof, just 2 numbers

>Absolutely no one else on the testing page reporting anywhere near double digit FPS gains, let alone a full 100% improvement
Uh huh
Did anyone get vkd3d-proton builds working on windows? I grabbed both dxvk and vkd3d master builds but the game refuses to start.
Don't bother with trying to use DXVK development builds on windows, 95% of them are broken to the point of not working at all or not really providing any of the intended performance gains. The Windows port is a secondary project that the devs don't really focus on. Just wait for the finish version 2.10 to come out.
If I remember correctly you have to add VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%
If you're on AMD its over
It's over, guess I will have to live with native 7900 XTS perfromance.
Meanwhile in reality, on the github report page for this, people testing it are reporting around 4-8 FPS gained.
Wall of cope.
This has happened before with Elden Ring.
Fixed on linux while wintoddlers had to stutter their way through.
>can fix it on a translation layer level
>muh engine

These people are being paid by Valve to fix PC gaming. They know more than you.
>outsourced devs
>spending time on not their product while getting paid in peanuts
(You)
>There is always a reason for this shit, though.
Yeah, the reason is because for Creation Engine 2 they completely replaced the renderer with a new third party middleware called The Forge that has never been used for anything serious before. It's a mess of a renderer with a ton of optimization problems and they're all present in Starfield
>instability
lmao as if starshit isn't crashing already 5 times in a hour without any mods
I let them cook and check it out for sure. Gotta set up my dual boot anyways.
Is there a proof for that claim?
check repo?
The repo has no proof of this claim. In fact the very few people posting about performance there are getting around 5 fps better performance. Not OPs bullshit double FPS claim
>Using Linux
I thought the appeal of vtubers was supposed to be them acting cute, why watch some american pig?
>source: trust me bro
>YES I HAVE DONE THE ENGINE TWEAKING SAR WE ARE READY FOR VERTICAL LADDERS SAR
So its just a bug, why are people so mad about it? It will be fixed in a patch
>It will be fixed in a patch
A community patch.
Welp, guess I'm going to have to set up a linux install..
i love reading anons pretending to know everything about cpu/gpu communication when they didn't write a single like of opengl, let alone dx12/vk
calm down anyone who is understanding this shit is prolly already helping out in some way
If this is true then why doesn't it run better on Steam Deck? Or is an update coming? It struggles to maintain 30fps.
because valve time
do you expect them to tweak it for you as soon as something is out?
So a Steam Deck with Windows installed runs it at 60 fps?
>no, I was comparing the handheld to my desktop PC and pretending the only difference is the operating system
Fuck off then.
actually it runs better on windows seeing that people on chudix loonix need to run the game at 50% res scale and this guy is running higher
Shartfield has wildly varying performance depending of where you are, comparisons are meaningless if they aren't in the same place
Because it's running like shit in much more powerful systems, there's a physical limit to things
then how come it runs like complete ass on steam deck? it runs on Loonix
According to this comparison, it's almost the same shit:
?si=9KhWo0WHxxxcmoVI
>Sep1
That's before vkd3d-proton got changed
not even close related retardo
>Its almost the same shit
>benchmark before the vkd3d-proton update
>still objectively running better on linux
Yeah. It's indistinguishable.
To be fair to anon, I still don't see a before-after or current as of today Windows/Linux comparison. So 'twice as fast' is anyone's guess.
