there is a dxvk fork for windows.
its not updated as quickly as the actual dxvk but it works for most games and has tremendous performance increases in dx12 games.

this isn't dxvk dxvk only supports up to dx11 its vkd3d it should work on windows in theory although i tried dropping the dlls in my starfield and the game wont open, the dlls are here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/releases i know vkd3d has some nvidia issue atm but it might work with nvidia cards

NVIDIA drivers are the same on both so that's very likely. It's probably going to be a disaster on AMD's Windows drivers too, they're absolute shit for translation layers and emulators.

Less than one percent of PC gamers will ever bother learning how to use Linux for performance improvements. 60+ fps is still passable anyway, it's not like Elden Ring which had massive issues at launch (I started using Arch to run ER with stable framerate, very happy with it on all fronts).

Pirated games don't work the same as a legitimately bought game. Steam comes with dependencies out of the box, but if you add a non-steam game, Steam doesn't know what to include, so it's a 50-50 toss-up if it even loads. If the game is relatively light and self-contained, it will run without doing anything else i.e. original Starcraft + Brood War free release version from Blizzard prior to remastering.

This game has to seriously be the most rigidly designed PoS Beth has ever put out. Virtually every named NPC is unkillable, there's almost always only one path through things. I've stumbled upon characters I was not supposed to meet yet and the game just went ahead with the usual scripted dialogue as if I had been told to go see them. I'm having fun but especially so close to BG3, this game just feels soulless as fuck.

        1. You shouldn't want tech-illiterate people on Linux. It's not for them and they will just become more of those people who try to derail every Linux thread with their sob stories.
        2. Bethesda Game Stuios is a subsidiary of Bethesda Softworks is a subsidiary of Zenimax Media is a subsidiary of Xbox Game Studios is a subsidiary of Microsoft. If this game becomes known for running well on Linux, they're probably going to start pushing sneaky patches to break Proton/Wine support.

I thought this just causes less crashing on Nvidia GPUs. Mind you I haven't even had many crashes in the first place. Highly doubt it'll ever come close to doubling FPS. DX9 games sure but only because modern graphics drivers have way better optimization for Vulkan than for DX9.

      Anonymous

      >Less crashing
Huh? I've had 0 crashes in 37 hours on my 3090. The games issue isn't crashing, it's the dogshit frame rate

It's funny that everywhere on planets is incredibly smooth 120fps at 4K, but in space I get a 15fps slideshow even with all graphics options set to potato at 1080p, especially in asteroid fields.

The one new thing their diversity hires add to the game runs like absolute trash and doesn't even look as good as a game released almost 10 years ago. This is the future of the western game industry.

I'm on a 3070 and 9700k and I just think it has poor CPU optimization in cities. Game runs fine in most areas but cities and space it drops below 60 with the DF optimized settings. I've had like 2-3 crashes in like 14hrs of playtime at this point. Not a ton but more than zero.

Don't bother with trying to use DXVK development builds on windows, 95% of them are broken to the point of not working at all or not really providing any of the intended performance gains. The Windows port is a secondary project that the devs don't really focus on. Just wait for the finish version 2.10 to come out.

There is always a reason for this shit, though. It's not like they don't know it exists. Addressing it would likely lead to more instability. Bunch of smart-asses that think they know better than the engineers that spend years balls-deep in the code. The engine is ancient and probably using all sorts of loopholes and workarounds in order to function on modern hardware, that also make it incompatible with other things. The inner workings of software - especially on this scale - is not so simple that it can be summed up in a forum post. I absolutely guarantee Bethesda has known about this since mid-2020 at least.

Not even defending Bethesda. This is just insight from a dev. There is always some smart ass that thinks they can fix everything but doesn't know why the code is structured a certain way (because they didn't construct it), so they end up breaking 10 other things or exposing vulnerabilitys and security issues.

Yeah, the reason is because for Creation Engine 2 they completely replaced the renderer with a new third party middleware called The Forge that has never been used for anything serious before. It's a mess of a renderer with a ton of optimization problems and they're all present in Starfield
