Piloting Rank 4, Starship Design rank 4, go to the vendors of the actual starship producers
that would be the stroud-ecklund staryard in narion, new homestead on titan in Sol, hopetown and the deimos staryard in alpha centauri
I swear this is the only way to actually run a ship given all the fucking resources I have. Literally 1400 cap at the moment and I have maxed that shit, just gonna fly around and shoot shit till I can get a type c engine. fucking game
Main problem I think is people (myself included) are struggling to understand that you don't have to necessarily put the cockpit forward, you can pretty much put it anywhere you like
When you wrap your mind around this, this opens up a lot of ideas and potential
Also when you are not placing the cockpit forward you have to deal with ladders. I have a design with similar cockpit placement which I like but that one stupid ladder is getting annoying
Stats are pretty much not affected by the structural parts. You need a lot of cargo for storage and a lot of engines for maneuverability. No other stats really depend on how much stuff you place on the ship.
Why are the UC so incompetent at keeping manufacturers?
UC Shipyards >Nova - main shipyard is derelict and overrun by spacers, even though they have the most aesthetic interiors imo >Deimos - complacent and stagnant, just coasting by on government contracts
FC Shipyards >Toyota - boring and soulless but at least they have a niche >Stroudd - IBMpunk >Hopetech - bitchboys of all the faction quests. Spacetrucks >Trident - can't buy them but they make space yachts. DLC bait imo
Is Bethesda saying that free market competition is better for the economy
The ship building is the main thing that interests me in the game. Can you build in variety of sizes, or are they all roughly the same? Can you make a fuckhuge capital ship for example?
i just got the one from the mantis quest because i wanted a fuckin upgrade already
now i dont know what to do for money to start buyin ship parts
is it worth tryin to farm random retard pirates for parts?
I made a 4 story horror with cargo wings cause every time I made something I thought looked cool it told me the landingbay couldnt reach the cockpit when it was either right below it or next to it.
So I can see that people clearly have multiple ships. Is there anything you can do with them, or are they just there if you feel like switching them up? Like can you hire a pilot and have him do some independent trading with your free ship or something like that? Or maybe have one just follow you around in another ship to help you with pirates?
> Like can you hire a pilot and have him do some independent trading with your free ship or something like that?
Great idea but no, fuck you. Todd wants you to have outposts. Making a private trading or space pirate fleet in a space game are you crazy?
You WILL mine for bug powder on 100 planets and like it.
>the ship I fly because it has cargo space and all of the habs with the stations I need vs the ship I want to fly because its fast AF and looks cool AF
You can have non-active ships, but you can't 'hot switch' your active ship anywhere you want, you can only swap your active ship at ship vendors and staryards.
It's a real bummer since it basically means it's a chore to swap between your big utility ship and your small, speedy fighter.
He's right. I love my ship for being a comfy RV and having a nice interior but the ship combat is awful. Especially when you're outnumbered. Movement feels worthless because the smoothbrains at bethesda didn't include constant acceleration. Rather than flying, it feels like you are stuck in place while opponents swim around you and shoot your ass.
Can someone explain how the fuck i upgrade my ship class? I thought putting a class B reactor was enough but nope, i can buy it but it gives me error if i put it. I do have the piloting skills.
It was yesterday, i can't remember, but it wasn't detailed enough.
I wanted to put a B weapon. But you can't because class A reactor. So i tried to put the B reactor and it still wouldn't allow me. I don't get it.
Ok so is the cockpit the only thing that determines how many crew members you can have on your ship? What's the max crew you can have assuming you buy the best cockpit?
>but for max crew u need to spend skill points on social tree
Didn't know that. I'm larping as a retarded soldier so I have 0 points on social and all the points on combat.
I'm trying to buy the Carry ALL and have a Class B pilot skill but after dozens of reloads it never spawns at Neon or Paradiso.
What other requirement am I missing that I need in order for the ship to be available?
Anyone knows what's an energy weapon, particle beam weapon, and EM weapon? I swear, this game just gives you ship weapons, skills and specialists but doesn't tell you which is which.
I'm guessing suppressors and gauss are EM, lasers are "energy", all something-beam are particle beam, but then what is a railgun? What is a neutron turret?
Lasers will always do a lot of shield damage and low hull damage.
Ballistic weapons will always do a lot of hull damage and low shield damage.
Particle weapons will always do equal hull and shield damage.
EM weapons have their own unique type of damage that isn't hull or shield damage.
Does Starfield have sleek uniform ships with a clear design like the Normandy from Mass Effect, or do they all look like they're made from random pieces of Lego?
With enough effort you can add cosmetic parts that serve no purpose to break the lego shape, but honestly it still looks very blocky, worse than legos.
In pic related you can count about 12 visible useful ship parts, the rest is useless parts just for aesthetic reasons.
I really wish storage worked in outposts because I'd love to have a ship not weighed down by a fuck load of cargo but the transfer cargo platform literally doesn't work so the only way to store shit is to manually move it to containers.
Love the game and the ship building but fuck if the outpost system isn't completely undercooked
Just download infinite ship storage mod, it makes shit x100 more enjoyable. Especially because todd is too dumb to make proper storage solutions for all the resource bloat you expected to engage with for r&d stations.
I wouldn't mind engaging with the systems if they actually functioned. My issue is the cargo hold transfer straight up just doesn't fucking work. I hate having to mod inventory but I'm really close.
Not sure how I feel about that underslung cockpit, but it's otherwise pretty neat.
mods that add a bunch more cosmetic parts when?
so many parts intersect wrong or ugly, making you use the parts from single manufacturer to make it look right
and fuck coloring, that comes after I unlock everything
tube/10
Are metallic paints a thing you can make with those 3 colour sliders?
looks like a cozy space hauler. Not a fan of the color though.
mods that add a bunch more cosmetic parts when?

and fuck coloring, that comes after I unlock everything
It is a follow up sidequest from him that you help design a ship but you aren't actually helping design it. You just give feedback and persuade them between two different ships that can be made and they give it to you for free.
I don't have the game. Is every ship weapon a laser or machine gun? Is there some kind of fuck-off cannon that reloads extremely slowly but does a ton of damage?
>amass money >spend all on ship building >have to scrape by and take odd jobs to make due >rinse and repeat
Now i get why everyone is so poor in space.
>ship running out of space >ok let's build an outpost to store all my minerals >put down a solid resource crate, looks to be about 10"x10" >this should be fine, I only have 900kg in resources >max mass: 84 - LESS THAN HALF WHAT MY FUCKING CHARACTER CAN CARRY
What the fuck is wrong with these people? I wouldn't touch this game with a 10 foot pole without mods or console commands. Also, booster/storage/shield/etc should be done through the crafting system and gated by the ship engineering and starship design perks. Put a ship tuning work bench at landing pads or ship services instead of expecting us to waste 10 levels of perks just to make the ships functional. Fucking morons.
The whole research perk tree feels like it was built backwards:
tier 1 makes research cheaper
tier 2 enables decent modding but requires advanced materials
tier 3 improves outposts so they can create advanced materials
where the hell do you guys get those massive cockpits and reactors from
Piloting Rank 4, Starship Design rank 4, go to the vendors of the actual starship producers
that would be the stroud-ecklund staryard in narion, new homestead on titan in Sol, hopetown and the deimos staryard in alpha centauri
are they level gated or something, because i've been to hopetown and there weren't any greyed out cockpits
they might be, but i dont think they are.
hopetown only has one large cockpit i believe, the cool ones are at deimos, stroud and at new homestead
Parts are gated, you need to be level 60 to have the best stuff unlocked.
these cockpits look comfy as fuck
they are
im a cockpit connoisseur
wanna take a close look at my cockpit?
Man I should have focused on the ship skills, 32 hours in and just got into ship building and I have 400k credits but I can't buy all the good shit.
I swear this is the only way to actually run a ship given all the fucking resources I have. Literally 1400 cap at the moment and I have maxed that shit, just gonna fly around and shoot shit till I can get a type c engine. fucking game
Has anyone made a UNSC Frigate? Can you make one? Is there a MAC or equivlent in the game?
u can make some crazy shit with mods
im not into that yet, still experimenting with the vanilla builder
Cute!
whats the best way to get money for ships?
Grind the pirate mission board and upgrade weapons first
player.additem 000000f 9999999
Money just appears in my inventory after doing some missions, I don't even know how. I go from 60k to 190k after looting a couple places.
found some water creature in a radioactive sea, no way to check it out though since you cant dive
smells of cut feature
did you try to noclip through the water?
your ships all look like pure garbage
i've seen this ship config before, where? what's it based of?
Is that supposed to be the Shrike from Star Trek Picard?
Here's mine. No matter what I build it ends up looking like a crustacean.
In this entire thread the only 2 ships that look decent are these
Do you all just suck or is the ship builder really that bad?
Main problem I think is people (myself included) are struggling to understand that you don't have to necessarily put the cockpit forward, you can pretty much put it anywhere you like
When you wrap your mind around this, this opens up a lot of ideas and potential
Yeah but it's hard to find cockpits that look nice and slick anywhere else than at front.
Also when you are not placing the cockpit forward you have to deal with ladders. I have a design with similar cockpit placement which I like but that one stupid ladder is getting annoying
>generic scifi slop is better than a giant flying brick bristling with guns;
holy zoomer
looks great but i bet the stats are complete garbage
Stats are pretty much not affected by the structural parts. You need a lot of cargo for storage and a lot of engines for maneuverability. No other stats really depend on how much stuff you place on the ship.
looks basic as fuck
xD
Edit: thanks for the gold kind stranger!
Why are the UC so incompetent at keeping manufacturers?
UC Shipyards
>Nova - main shipyard is derelict and overrun by spacers, even though they have the most aesthetic interiors imo
>Deimos - complacent and stagnant, just coasting by on government contracts

Is Bethesda saying that free market competition is better for the economy
>FC Shipyards
>Toyota - boring and soulless but at least they have a niche
what?
Probably Taiyo.
>calling Taiyo soulless when Deimos exists
The ship building is the main thing that interests me in the game. Can you build in variety of sizes, or are they all roughly the same? Can you make a fuckhuge capital ship for example?
No. Max length is 80 meters.
I should start grinding the piloting skills
>thanks although your ship sucks
>fucking nice
same ship you retard
anyone got asymmetric designs?
one of the most obvious one
i just got the one from the mantis quest because i wanted a fuckin upgrade already
now i dont know what to do for money to start buyin ship parts
is it worth tryin to farm random retard pirates for parts?
Nice.
I made a 4 story horror with cargo wings cause every time I made something I thought looked cool it told me the landingbay couldnt reach the cockpit when it was either right below it or next to it.
Interesting ship. I like it.
So I can see that people clearly have multiple ships. Is there anything you can do with them, or are they just there if you feel like switching them up? Like can you hire a pilot and have him do some independent trading with your free ship or something like that? Or maybe have one just follow you around in another ship to help you with pirates?
you can sell your ships
> Like can you hire a pilot and have him do some independent trading with your free ship or something like that?
Great idea but no, fuck you. Todd wants you to have outposts. Making a private trading or space pirate fleet in a space game are you crazy?
You WILL mine for bug powder on 100 planets and like it.
how the fuck is a beast like that operated by only 6 people?
i'd like to do a setup where you can't actually see out of the cockpit and have to pretend you're using monitors or something.
I know bethesda is too stupid to make closed of cockpits without observation windows but can't you just build over it regardless?
This and interactive screens in cockpit is something You will never see in AAA
can you guys get a good pic of the insides of your ships? im still stuck with this narrow dick needle ones
there a way to take apart my other ships and use their parts?
You can't build asymmetric ships?
you can
so sleek, my ships all look like garbage
>the ship I fly because it has cargo space and all of the habs with the stations I need vs the ship I want to fly because its fast AF and looks cool AF
Can't you have like a mule ship or non active ship doesn't get transported with you when you warp around?
no
pretty sure you can only have 1 ship active at a time
which is lame
i wish you could create your own fleet
You can have non-active ships, but you can't 'hot switch' your active ship anywhere you want, you can only swap your active ship at ship vendors and staryards.
It's a real bummer since it basically means it's a chore to swap between your big utility ship and your small, speedy fighter.
The right one looks really nice! I've been trying to pull off a similar look but just can't get the parts right.
sorry, but why would you need a fast ship if you literally don't go anywhere with it?
i'm being incredibly serious. does it increase the loading time? if it did then sure that seems worthwhile.
>i posted it again
i'd like an answer please
for space combat
Welcome to every space combat since wing commander, especially if you insist on playing it in cockpit view.
use the thrusters
min-maxxed
Can someone explain how the fuck i upgrade my ship class? I thought putting a class B reactor was enough but nope, i can buy it but it gives me error if i put it. I do have the piloting skills.
what's the error
It was yesterday, i can't remember, but it wasn't detailed enough.
I wanted to put a B weapon. But you can't because class A reactor. So i tried to put the B reactor and it still wouldn't allow me. I don't get it.
Maybe you need to place a B reactor, then finish editing the ship, and then start editing again and only then add the weapon.
Worth a try. So putting a B reactor makes my ship B class?
Yes. That alone should be enough.
Should do but obv need to delete the old reactor.
Ok so is the cockpit the only thing that determines how many crew members you can have on your ship? What's the max crew you can have assuming you buy the best cockpit?
no there's hubs that increase max crew count. but for max crew u need to spend skill points on social tree

I'm trying to buy the Carry ALL and have a Class B pilot skill but after dozens of reloads it never spawns at Neon or Paradiso.
What other requirement am I missing that I need in order for the ship to be available?
Since modules are locked behind player level I would assume ships are too.
I don't suppose anyone has figured out what level unlocks new tiers of ships?
I got reactors with 38 power at level 50.
>Enemy ships aim at center of your ship's model (0,0 on the graph)
>Build design with gap in the middle
>Space combat is now trivial
Verified works.
Kingdom Hearts SOVL
Don't get the more crew members skill. They all gather in the same rooms, no matter how big your ship is, and block your path.
thats a bug
works on my machine
Why, there's no point in even building ships, you can barely fly them anywhere
Yeeeeehaww
Anyone knows what's an energy weapon, particle beam weapon, and EM weapon? I swear, this game just gives you ship weapons, skills and specialists but doesn't tell you which is which.
I'm guessing suppressors and gauss are EM, lasers are "energy", all something-beam are particle beam, but then what is a railgun? What is a neutron turret?
Just look at the damage the weapon does.

Ballistic weapons will always do a lot of hull damage and low shield damage.
Particle weapons will always do equal hull and shield damage.
EM weapons have their own unique type of damage that isn't hull or shield damage.
I just look at the stats

what the hell is the front
i really wish you could see the internals of the ship while building it. that's probably the most important aspect.
I really wish storage worked in outposts because I'd love to have a ship not weighed down by a fuck load of cargo but the transfer cargo platform literally doesn't work so the only way to store shit is to manually move it to containers.

Reposting. Finished the game yesterday, building ships was probably one of the only enjoyable things in the game aside from a few quests
Here's mine.

Not mine, but the Starfield Twitter posted this yesterday.
As a Star Fox fan, this is super cool. One of their most liked Tweets, too.
is this an AI post or are you actually this much of a normalfag
>One of their most liked Tweets, too.
wow thats crazy man
Someone said you get to build a ship for free after
Walter's quest in Neon. How's that work?
Do you? I did that quest and it didn't mention anything like that.
It is a follow up sidequest from him that you help design a ship but you aren't actually helping design it. You just give feedback and persuade them between two different ships that can be made and they give it to you for free.
flatboi
I don't have the game. Is every ship weapon a laser or machine gun? Is there some kind of fuck-off cannon that reloads extremely slowly but does a ton of damage?
There are several types of weapons, and within each class of weapon there are rapid fire and slow firing versions, so the answer is yes
Has anyone made a replica of the enterprise yet?
>amass money
>spend all on ship building
>have to scrape by and take odd jobs to make due
>rinse and repeat
Now i get why everyone is so poor in space.
Losing your ships when starting NG+ sucks, is there no "save blueprint" feature so that you can easily recreate old ships in NG+?
>ship running out of space

Just build 10 footlockers
You have to use the big storage containers if you want to be able to pull resources from them. Regular storage will not count.
my boat
What skills do you need to get all the options for ships? Just piloting and ship design maxed out?
outside of razor leaf are there any ship wiht unique interaction?
i'm glad i sold cheatleaf ship
whats the deal with the razor leaf?
it lets you cheat
how?
by cheating
NPC ships flee sometimes
