the game does nothing impressive graphics wise and looks like a 2013 game, a low end 10xx card should run it fine but doesn't because Bethesda can't code for shit

That's not how that works. Your card is fine for older games and indie slop but you can't complain when modern games don't work because your card is just old.

Starfield IS ugly as frick, but it's still using new tech, that's why it's demanding, there are undemanding games that are very nice looking but are using old tech, like Elden Ring, but games like that are an exception, specially these days.
However, having said all that, you still need to upgrade your 10 year old $200 mid range GPU, it's weaker than even the Series S's GPU.

that's not an excuse to demand state of the art GPU's, what's the fricking point anyway of new tech if you're too incompetent to utilize it and your game looks like a game from the past decade

Black person they released it with an unfinished lighting system. No patch should shower anything this drastically.

Well, I wouldn't expect any better from Bethesda, but to expect an ugly game to run well on ancient hardware just because it looks bad is silly, they're targeting newer consoles, so they can say "frick older hardware" and not optimize anything, but if you want to play the latest games, you need new hardware, there's not much else one can do, however the better question is, why would anyone want to play Starfield in the fist place?

Because they're zoomers and younger millenials whose primary frame of reference is the 8 years in a row vidya tech stagnated at 2005 levels because everything was built for the Xbox 360 and sloppily ported over. Now they, who likely spent that period of time with a GPU like a 750Ti, a 250GB 7200RPM hard drive, and an i5 2500k, feel entitled to play everything at high 1080p+ settings while using an early ryzen, a 1060, and that same 250GB 7200RPM hard drive. When they can't because that's not possible, they cry about things being "unoptimized".

I don't understand why these subhumans don't upgrade. If they built their PC when they were teens why can't they do it now? Literally, just pair of 16gb ram sticks cost $50 and you can buy a $200 Nvidia GPU like the 2060, or an AMD rx5600 which runs everything at a stable 60fps and even some at 144fps.

There's nothing to mod, the game isn't good enough. Skyrim was decent without mods, and came out when graphics were advancing so it was the perfect modders paradise to experiment with modernizing the designs. Starfield looks fine, it's just completely fricking boring. Like everyone else said, it's literally Skyrim in space, it's a bad mod.

Not working on starfield. That was just cheap marketing to sell the game. There was a skeleton crew who were experimenting with the proc gen code 8 years ago, but it was only 3 years ago in 2020 that they started actually making starfield. And they would have released it in 2022 completely fricked if Microsoft didn't force them to bug fix everything. Bethesda was literally going to pull a cyberpunk 2077/no man's sky.

You need to make the player a consumer and give them genuine needs such as food, water, and sleep. Allow the player to get creative in the ways that they fulfill these needs, they can do whatever the game allows them to do to get by essentially, they can steal shit or do legitimate jobs, it keeps the player engaged with the in-game economy because they have to feed themselves, and are constantly making expenses. Speaking of expenses, Helium-3 being a resource reinforces even more that the players is going to have to figure out a way to keep a steady amount of Credits flowing, or just make fuel depots themselves (having to make fuel depots already gives purpose to outposts more so than we have now). Make the player have to feed their crew as well, so the player has to consider the logistics of spaceflight and feels pressured to make adequate credits or else their crew will get mad or die. Landing on random planets to raid outposts would be done to get resources when shit is tough, like you're about to starve and you have to be like a Spacer, raid a base and steal everything in their so you don't die.

None of these are engaging core gameplay loops, that's just survival mechanics that's played out.

We need a single well made overworld, no fast travel, focused entirely around organic exploration with no map markers or floating markers and no checklists.

Proc gen with survival mechanics is the dumbest fricking shit fad in video games.

          Anonymous

I think it's pretty engaging, you are forcing the player to engage and make them think as to how they can make money and get ahead, and elevate their character. They will seek out mission boards, or join a faction and they get sucked into quests that way. You get money, you get XP, you get loot, and whatever you find utilize it to take on more challenging things. The gameplay loop is getting richer, getting more reputation, and working your way up to pretty much an admiral of your fleet or something. You can be a cargo shipping enterprise, or a PMC for hire, or just explore the deepest reaches of the settled systems and discover things for cash. Pretty much keep playing until you're super rich and powerful, sounds awesome to me. The survival mechanics are just to push you out there, you will eventually have an excess of money and food so it won't matter. The single well made overworld you speak of can just be a solar system, perhaps the number of systems should be reduced so that the developers could have still done the "land anywhere" for that flavor, but each planet would have its generation tailored to be interesting and logical. Each system will have lots of stations, outposts, or whatever to find and explore (if you want).

Something something fuel is boring, or so Bethesda says.
I do genuinely wish they had a mode that makes fuel and food have meaning. Give the player the option at least, give them limited O2 in some situations, ways to improve their gear that isn't just armour.
I'd love the idea of helping to build a colony in some way, almost like how in Solsthiem you can help build one and you get a quest wen you visit. Having actual influence on some part of the universe you're in might help make the choice of ng+ harder to do.

I would be more receptive to an established outpost that handles itself. I fricking hate having to design my own outpost, what is the fricking point? It added NOTHING except an extra chore for me to manage. There was zero incentive.

If I had a place with interesting people I could help that would just build itself with my help I'd do that. I'm not building someone's fricking bed while they sit on the floor fricking crying to me to do everything for them.

Yeah, that's why I mention Solstheim. That was quest > frick off > return to see colony has grown for the most part but it nice to see. Going back to FO4 would be fun for some people but a hybrif of, say, setting up a starting point and letting it do its thing might work.

I really would rather a remake of this game by the modding community called "STARFIELD REBORN" over some Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 shit they're totally going to try to pull off, simply because BGS is a shit studio that has fallen off because nepotistic employees doesn't equal talent and will not work in an industry where other studios actually innovate and have more talented employees.

Same, if the game came out with creation kit I would at least be playing around with the environments, creating custom worlds and smaller more refined overworlds instead it of proc gen SHIT. It's going to be like this for the rest of the generation. All the way up until TES VI when the cycle starts again and Starfield gets the "it was always good, you're making it up that people shit on it when it came out" treatment.

      >>they need a BETA for a patch

I mean it's not a new concept. Blizzard has done it with "Public Test Realms" for well over a decade now.

This. A delayed game is eventually good. A rushed game is forever bad.
Even in the era of online updates, this still rings true. If they delayed the release another 6 months, nobody would've cared and it'd have been praised, but now it's already been forgotten and written off. It's too late.
