If you're new, give it some time. You'll learn how to be efficient and optimize your time. Feel free to pilfer other teachers (with consent, of course). My biggest mistake my first year was thinking I wasn't doing a good job unless every lesson I planned was from scratch.

Also, the worst advice I ever got was that you had to stay a minimum of 90 minutes past the end of classes in order to do a good job. You can arrive just before the bell and leave when the kids are barring any particularly rigorous lesson you're planning. Obviously your subject plays a big roll in this.

Try and work towards never taking work home with you. Especially grading. The less important stuff, the kids can do themselves. And you can use long, self-study time in class to grade yourself.

Anyways, it sounds like you aren't American, so maybe things are different where you're at.

I teach in Australia (lol). thing is I have to stay at least an hour and a half after classes end. I feel dirty for using other teachers' lessons even though they say they don't mind, but I also have to prove my worth as a new teacher

Wow you and the other guy and me makes three teachers. Didn't know v was so miserable

            >feel dirty
            >prove my worth as a new teacher
Don't. Trust me, I've been there. You're not doing yourself any favors. I mean, maybe you're some teaching prodigy, but the way to grow is to copy what works. Once you've got that down pat, you can add your own spin on it, things the shore up holes you discovered in the lesson or add other points you think should be covered. Eventually, after a year or two, the lessons will look nothing like what you originally copied.

Anyways, just lose that mindset. You're doing nothing but wearing yourself down.

            >have to stay after classes
You guys don't have unions? I mean, I guess if you're being paid, it's no biggie. What time do you get there and leave exactly?

We do have unions. Classes finish at 3pm so staying until 4.30pm isn't a big deal and there's always work to do anyway. I usually stay until late because I want to do as much as possible at school

ADHD kids like you are the worst. If I'm not constantly stimulating them like their favorite over0editted Youtuber, I'm suddenly a poor teacher.

I'm 32. School is prison (torture) to most kids and should be outlawed the same way we outlaw child labor. I guess I just have a longer memory than you.

wtf, not doing anything so the teacher can grade was the best. especially if they let you use your phone or handhelds

15+ same aged kids shouldn't be stuck in a room where they can't talk or move, even if they're staring at tiktok or whatever the frick.

              >nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo you have to perpetually entertain me you can't just expect me to actually study by myself even though I'll have to do exactly that in college anyway noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

This isn't self study. At college lectures they never made me sit and read a book for an hour instead of actually lecturing. I had the freedom to not go to some lectures if I wanted. I had the freedom to actually study by myself in my room or in a library when I wanted.
The kind of thing that "teacher" was describing is just our shitty society footing the bill of terrible education on children.

Except I do? I'm a wagie and still have at least 5 hours a day for gaming after work.

Same, teacher also. Gotta get to school at 8, so requires up at 6:30. Finish at 3:30. I slack off on grading though and just ballpark based on memory. I give myself time in class to grade their tests at least but even then I don't input the grades directly, just recall if they did bad, okay, decent, or exceptionally well, and make a few entries in the system so it tallies up to what I want it to be. Don't grade homework just give them punishments in class if they don't turn that shit in. I also make them basically read their homework to me so the social pressure is there to do it too.

Only thing is making and prepping assignments, but I play an MMO right now so I can do that stuff while kinda afk in the game since there are things that can be done decently well by just inputting a few commands every 5 minutes or so. Also helps it gives me a chat group to talk to while working. It's actually improved my productivity because of that, instead of when I was working alone staring at a fricking screen and textbook, now I got my vidya world and buds to talk to while doing lessons.

Daily commute to island schools since last week, waking up at 5, done by 13, back home at 16, sleep at 22. There's still time to have fun in the afternoon when I stream. I use the time on the ferry/bus to read, do paper work or play my Vita. Thinking of getting a Steam Deck. Currently typing this on the ferry, actually. It isn't that bad, but the schools and kids are nice so I'm biased.

lots of Americans have been brainwashed that if you’re not out on your own at 18 living across the country from your parents you’re a failure. this mostly only applies to lower/middle class whites because it’s who gets targeted to make them more competitive and only out for themselves to help destroy social cohesion. they wanted to destroy multi-generational households because they’re easier to control when they feel they’re on their own.

As a grad student I like teaching undergrads like you the most cause you actually want to be there, and good professors will work within reason with your schedule if you have a need for things. Just remember to always complete the professor's assigned readings since they really do help with the comprehension of the lecture (if the professor is even half-decent).

Actually, most sex abuses happen in traditional families. Schools are lower on the scale.
Priests are still massively overrepresented, compared to their population size and amount of everyday contact with children. Teachers don't even get close.

Then there are countries with state religions. Like poland, where 30% of child rapes are by clergy.

the christcucks also ignore the fact that schools will not only immediately punish pedos, but anyone with even the implication of malfeasance

churches routinely protected priests that abused kids and convinced parents and law enforcement that the abuse did not/should not be investigated

being a teacher, to me, sounds like highway to depression
how can you feel content when kids you help raise go out there and achieve interesting shit while you are right where you are, always, without any major change. how are you not afraid that that you are helping creation of hundreds of dreams, even if they dont come true, but your dreams will never be realised. arent you afraid that at some point you might get jealous of kids?

it is entirely possible of course but I feel like I wouldnt feel the same way about being a college prof, or a workshop tutor, but something about kids having "infinite" opportunities scare me, like, imagine if your student became a person of great significance, it is clear that you had some stake in this, so you have it in you, but you are still a teacher (not that its a bad thing) and not the "greatness" you helped form

idk man I might be babbling and sorry if I'm bumming you (or other teacher anons) out but being an elementary school teacher was always a profession that scared me, even though I never went down that path, I just feel like I couldnt handle being this close to numerous possibilities life has in store without feeling the urge to chase some myself

I despise my sister for working 8 hours a day (in a toy store), refusing full time weeks despite being paid shit (plus benefits program covering parts of the pay), and still crashing regularly on her sofa with her clothes on. I have no idea what she does with her days off. She's one of those that can have one thing on her schedule (like washing) and that means nothing else can be done that day before or after.
Probably doesn't help she's obese too. Clinging on a clueless boyfriend she does nothing but b***h about.

Work part time. In The Netherlands even 36 hours is considered fulltime but I know many people who work just 20-26 and get by just fine, especially when they're in a relationship and both people work like that. Depending on the job they even prefer part timers.

Here is the case for The Netherlands:
            -limited space
-limited space needs to be shared between the housing market and farms
            -insane population boom
            -more farms needed
-more houses needed which aren't built because of nitrogen excess laws that farms didn't abide to because lobbying
-lots of real estate gets bought up by international investment companies and rots away because less usable space means available buildings become worth more
-lots of land is not usable for buildings since they'll literally sink

My shithole mining family house from 1925 is taxated at 400,000 euros, and this is in the equivalent of Alabama. An apartment in Amsterdam you can barely move around in is something the Hollywood elite can afford.

There are plans for that yes and it's been doing in a small number but nothing that would even come close to the houses that are needed even without any population increase. It's also temporary since even the most far left parties in the country are very critical of immigration.

I am still totally convinced we will see a UBI within our lifetimes. Automation has hit many sectors and will hit many more. Yes it will create new jobs, no not everyone has the skills for that, not this many people will be needed for it and the economy cannot function if the people without jobs are just being left on the streets.
The only other alternative I see is current society crumbling in its entirety.
It used to just be factory jobs. I already got fired from a design job in 2017 and replaced with an algorithm together with the rest of the department, now AI is lightyears ahead of what they used. ChatGPT will take care of many other jobs. Call it a pipe dream, I call it a necessity.

Material things that ultimately only serve a shallow purpose in an average human lifepan of like what, 70 to 80 years, if you're generally lucky. Just play less. I used to play like 7h a day until I started to take real life more seriously. Now I play maybe 1-2 hours on weeknights and maybe 4 hours on the weekend. I stopped playing multiplayer games and only play single player stuff that isn't grindy as frick.

It makes it seem like its the loners fault for not being open enough to the group when in reality the group would be actively excluding the loner. but then again maybe thats just for boys.

people mind their own business, if you're a loner you need to put your back into stopping being one

it's neither a boys thing nor a girls thing
the point you're seeing implied about loners is completely right
and you know it too, which is why you act so defensive about it
you've built your idea of self around a narrative of being victimized, and you're afraid of growing up by taking responsibility
your problems always were your own fault
for all these boards love to b***h about muh women being childish, many of them have a great deal more maturity than men on this sort of topic. no doubt due to them being more social and socially influenced. but in the end, sticking to your guns is pretty moronic when said guns are moronic

Actually I started playing Nintendo games more. They're made to be played in short or long sessions. Tried Yakuza 7 last week and with 30 minute cutscenes with limited saving it was a nightmare to try to play after work so I'm only gonna play it on the weekends. During the work week I play the switch for an hour or so in bed

Yeah, apparently all departments are supposed to do 3 days but they just laughed and stay home. Instead of doing something they picked on our department even though we are the most independent and rarely talk to other departments.

Why doesn't she marry a man so she can stay at home and game inbetween taking care of the house & kids? That's a good 9 to 11 hours cleared up with not having to prepare, commute both ways, and work at an office. Obviously homemaking is time consuming, but even so, there's almost a year before the first kid even shows up.

I only do chores during weekends so I don't have this problem despite going to the gym right after work. When you only wash dishes/cook/clean one day a week you have free time at the end of each day.

      >When you only wash dishes/cook/clean one day a week you have free time at the end of each day.
These are copse because cleaning takes 10/15 minutes for people who are single, and if you leave with multiple people you can have each person clean their stuff, dividing up the work.
Cooking complex stuff can be tricky, but if you keep it basic it should take an hour, and you can prepare foods for other days
Cleaning sucks and I fricking hate cleaning, always takes too long
