The concept of starters stagnates team design.
Just let people build teams from the routes they've encountered. Give them a crummy ratata that they're going to bench once they get a full team.

They don't have the same resistances, some even gave immunities. One type is really stronger than the others.
Fighting, Rock and Flying are a perfect triangle like the starter types.
Machop, Rhyhorn, Togepi.
Just need to balance the lines properly.

With the balancing.
Gen 1 lines who each get a Cross-Gen Evolution afterwards.

Fire, Rock, Steel could be cool for a volcanic or desert region, if not for starters, then a legendary trio or something
