    windows 7 has telemetry, cope

      Anonymous

Infinitely easier to avoid. But that aside, the OS is still better in many other ways.

      >my windows is not shit
you are delusional, I pity you more than the regular moron using win11

WMP was opt-in, WER is one option.
The rest doesn't mean shit and I'm not even sure anyone used them.

the pretty clear difference here is that 7 gives you the option to disable these things, whereas everything past 7 simply does it without telling you or giving you the option
i'm not a 7 shill though, windows a meme os without any unix toys, and 7 is 14 years old
install linux. you don't even actually play videogames so windows in unnecessary

Of course Windows 7 is better, it's just that running it when it isn't getting more security updates is moronic.

            >Security isn't that big of a factor if you practice common sense.
"Common sense" is the eternal cope of the people who think they know more about computer security than they actually do, and if you run an EOL OS you don't have that common sense in the first place.
            >Firewalls exist
Firewalls won't save you from your OS being swiss cheese, unless you're using your firewall to block all incoming and outgoing traffic. Post your firewall rules, anon?

I used to work for a guy who refused to update his xp system he used to manage all his customer contacts and data. he lost everything when the cryptolocker first circulated. he didn't have any backups either so he was forced to pay the ransom. it probably doesn't matter all that much with personal systems as long as you are ok dealing with malware and losing all your personal data.

Why a botnet would differ from a piece of spyware entirely? Do you think they're used by the same company which would package your installation of Windows? And if it were, do you think spyware would generally go around being unfixable to the general population of users amounting to 66 million users large?

Good job missing the point yet again you blithering idiot.
The fact that you're not installing important security updates means your system absolutely will have a wider attack surface, and very likely will be infected beyond repair with some kind of malware or even ransomware at some point.

It doesn't work like that, idiot. Web Browsers are now far more complex than ever before and there are all kinds of new vulnerabilities popping up every single day. No amount of "common sense" will change the fact that you're a complete idiot using a massively outdated, deprecated operating system, with browser versions no longer being developed.

It works if your common sense is good enough.
The web browser argument is really the same as any piece of software, at some point you will need a KernelEx equivalent for Win7 or hope somebody will keep supporting it.

The same reason that farmers don't take the same vaccines that the cattle does. The privacy doesn't really affect you negatively, relatively, so some big corp watches what porn you spank too. They aren't opening credit cards and draining your bank account maliciously. They just want to make more money from you and they do it by invading your privacy, is it wrong, yes, but it makes money so it wont stop because no one actually got hurt.

Don't worry, I already know you're an idiot, and have zero understanding of how the modern web works.

                The problem isn't telemetry though.
It's about backdoors that the US government demands be put in and that can be used by US (and other countries') spy agencies to do whatever the frick they please.

Thinking you can disable built-in mass surveillance backdoors by blocking an IP or two and installing a 3rd party tool where you can untick a few boxes is like believing you can outsmart your health by adding a diet coke to a 5 burger meal.

But we need to be realistic about this, most people simply don't care about privacy because they're too dumb and naive to understand why it matters. And so it goes down the drain.

windows 10 and 11 allow you to turn off SOME telemetry. you can never turn it all off, and even if you tick these boxes, windows can just activate godmode and not listen to your wishes. while it is true that 7 had telemetry, it was nowhere near as much as later versions, and the settings you chose actually meant something.

because microsoft bakes telemetry into essentially everything they do now, like malware, you basically need utilities like this (https://github.com/ChrisTitusTech/winutil) to even begin to turn off the bits of telemetry that run behind the scenes and have no off switch

but again, as i said, you should just ditch windows and install linux

      Look at:

In addition to that, you had to install all these hacks to try and get win10 to stop spying...and then whenever you install an update, it all gets reverted. Settings will also turn themselves back on and reinstall themselves against your will. It has scheduled tasks not shown in task scheduler that turn everything back on

i'm glad you mentioned that, because while faking the OS stats so they have an excuse to use a lazy stock build of chromium, they forgot that they have another indirect measurement of OS usage which is DX12 readiness, in which their numbers show that 16% of users have a DX12 GPU but not a DX12 OS. which means those 16% of users have to be using something other than Win10/11, but their OS stats say only 5% of users aren't on Win10/11. they have an 11-point discrepancy that can't be explained by anything other than falsification. another example of which: since the last survey showed the majority of users were chinese, much to the dismay of their primary audience, they also now want you to believe that fully half of those chinese users just vanished.

oh... you just... believed what the private corporation told you, at face value? how cute.

yeah, and now add 1% of Linux users and 1% of Mac users and you'll have that 5% the anon posted. It's already telling when even mentioning the OS stats morons will tell that win7 has less than 1% of users while not seeing there's also win7 64 bit in these statistics with about 2% of users. All in all - a total fricking lie.

The host isn't sitting here doing absolutely nothing while you use the guest. It's not a huge deal if your hardware is powerful enough and the games don't require much though, that much is true.

        >They like to think they're privacy conscious and more intelligent than the average Windows 11 user

Not everything has to be black and white anon. You say "if you care about security then get linux, win7 has telemetry". But here's the thing, yes there's telemetry...but guess what.....ITS 15 YEAR OLD telemetry. The technology and infrastructure back then was not as advanced as it is now. All the links and servers is MAY be phoning home too are 15 YEARS OLD. Windows 7 was made back in a time when the world politically also, was not as trash...the level of telemetry that came from Windows 7 back then, for me now, personally, IS ACCEPTABLE.

Now compare that to Windows 10:

        >bro just "upgrade" to get ads on your computer

You stupid Linux cucks want us to either "just use windows 11" or, go all the way hard in the opposite direction, and install some schizo privacy Linux distro running Libre wolf and Tor with a PF sense firewall and all this other nonsense

You know what you act extra schizo like that, you just put an even bigger target on your head, right?

Look anon...if everything is backdoored. if ISP's are collabing with the goberment and glowies..If hardware at the HARDWARE LEVEL has backdoors...then don't you want to use something that's a happy medium? Win 7 just gets out of my way and lets me use my computer. I can play all the games and I don't need to be a sweaty stupid neckbeard about using my computer

            >I'm a moronic normie who fell for the W10 meme and just the other day I had to figure out how to get around my computer refusing to run an .exe file for an old PC game, not a fricking "file may be unsafe" warning, just straight-up REFUSING to allow me to do what I want because the file was too old and rare to have gotten Daddy Gates' assfrick of approval or whatever.

Elaborate on this? When I tested win10 I never ran into it, then again I'm using regular enterprise and refuse to use pro/home. What exe/game/software?

Because like him I did run into an issue: old game discs like Age of Mythology do not run on windows 10, you have to buy the remaster. But some older game discs seem to run fine, like AoE 1 and 2.

You don't need to open it, Windows just has to generate a thumbnail for it.

Your browser caches many images that you never end up opening.
And that's just one example of a remote exploit that doesn't require you to do anything or have javascript enabled.
If you have a Windows XP machine that is connected to the Internet you're doing it wrong. This isn't a debate, it's objective fact.

Shut up moron. The link clearly explains this isn't how the exploit works

You have to use an office file and view it in "thumbnail view" to payload. Simply having it cached doesn't work either.

It's been that way for a long time dude. Government got caught working directly with phone companies to illegally access everyone's records back in like 2005 and nothing came of it. That's just one of the major surveillance things they've done since the 2000s and that's just what we know about. Microsoft was even packaging telemetry that scanned for competitor's products way back in Win95 (although it was opt in via a prompt). These companies and organizations have never been the friend of the consumer.

Because nobody wanted to use 9x. Windows only started getting gud at 2000 and XP(after service packs). 7 was peak, and now we are currently experiencing the downfall.
Sadly there are still no viable alternatives, Linux still couldn't overtake the desktop market.

Not that anon but it's because Microsoft grooms you into doing everything using a GUI and they make it so you MUST do it their way or not do it at all.
Every other OS is based on Linux/Unix and are far more straight forward and simple, but
            >I DON'T LIKE THINGS BEING DIFFERENT

That would be a fair argument in a vacuum, but it's not how things work.

Software(including driver support) and games are developed with Windows in mind, so you will need to run wine and proton, then hope you don't constantly run into issues(you will).
Furthermore, Linux doesn't have a "central distro" so it's more difficult to support everything as neatly as Windows, and even that is already harder than it sounds since there is also stuff tied to hardware differences.
And finally, not being user-friendly is a flaw for many people. There is hardly any reason to not use GUI.

Proton has fixed the game issue and why would you use Wine for anything else? Use linux native software. If you're just going to use Windows software for whatever reason you're better off debloating Windows 11.

Don't be moronic. Of course they're not going to work because they require LITERAL malware that hijacks the Windows kernel. You're putting your data at risk by even installing that.

It's a worthless debate because someone who chooses to use Linux is obviously someone who doesn't care about games that don't run on Linux. Of course he doesn't count games that don't work on the system he chose. If he gave a shit about those games then he wouldn't have made that choice. This is why responding to "works on my machine" with "b-but OTHER game" never actually owns anyone.
