Unironically considering a Steam Deck for /comfy/ gaming in bed
For 400 bucks seems like a no brainer. Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
No but just use your phone with a controller for anything up to ps2,Wii, GameCube.
PC games play on your PC or stream them .
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
added power for something like the Ally. but you can install windows on the Deck if you want.
there's not really any good alternative to the steam deck in terms of support.
this is a decent option too.
i'm getting a switch lite for this reason. would not be worth it if i didn't order a modchip to jailbreak it.
the steam deck is just not portable enough for me, i need something the size of a vita. what's the point if it's more voluminous than a gaming laptop?
>modchip to jailbreak it
Arent these like 300bucks or are there cheaper ones now?
you can get a clone from aliexpress for $4 and it works exactly the same just make sure you get the correct version, check out gbatemp to be sure
>bro just get a switch from 10 years ago on a specific firmware
retard
anon... you were actually the retard...
you can install windows on deck.
the correct version of modchip, retard
switch v1 can be cfwed without a modchip
modchips are for switch v2 but chink clones are version specific i.e. for lite, for oled that's why you need to check
Doing the same. Just like the Switch honesty.
only reason to own a deck is to play switch games and it cant even do that well, so why not cut out the middle man and get a better experience?
the switch can't play switch games well either.
>only reason to own a deck is to play switch games
Retars bingchud
same, sold my deck after a week
modded my switch oled and never looked back
i buy games on deck and switch oled and play both consoles. switch for exclusives, deck for multiplats. games that are available on both run much better on deck.
all the good games are on the switch, no point playing anything else
Switch ports are consistently garbage, and I'm not even talking about graphics, no reason to play them anymore.
It would, but keep in mind it's an extra power drain. I got a $27 dock with ethernet port from AliExpress a while ago, Goojodoq brand (chinks and their babble), works fine. In hindsight, while it does give the back exhaust some breathing room, I'd have chosen a dock with back support that doesn't get in the way at all.
Pretty sure Emudeck isn't distributing early access builds one must pirate, yeah.
at least make it less obvious, shills
I did that, absolutely love the thing except... Everyone kept saying what about drift and I was like I play mostly 2D indie games anyway... my dpads gone so soft on the left side that there is no little click to it like the other 3 directions, I think I completely wore out the membrane... now I got to figure out how to fix it so I don't need to spend $200 for a new one.
>anon replies to himself several times
>retard doesn't realize that the modchip doesn't exist for modern nintendo switch systems, because the motherboard completely changed placement, and nobody has made the chip yet to be compatible with said new motherboard
insane the depth of gaslighting chinks will commit to.
>he doesn't know
before you delete this post, know i laughed. hard.
If you're talking about picofly good luck installing it retard it's not a simple installation process, and it's unironically easier to just install an upgraded internal to a deck, but have fun with it when you start soldering shit off, or breaking ribbons.
there's a modchip for lite and oled just look it up on youtube retard
hwfly
if you can't solder a few terminals you might be terminally retarded
I'm sorry for you anon
Get the GPD Win 4 then
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
Shader cache and proton bloat.
The 64 gb model is just fine if you want to play games up to the 8th gen of an SD card.
If you want to play 8th gen or newer games on the deck consider a 250+ gb SSD upgrade.
Mostly want it for smaller indieshits like Noita, Grounded, illwill, cuphead, gloomwood, maybe something like dishonored or prey at most
I have between 40 to 50 games on my 64GB deck, you should be fine just make sure you buy an A1 or better SD card.
Playing noita on the deck itself is irritating anon everything is tiny and the controls you really need a mouse
Fuck that’s disappointing to hear, that’s probably what I’d play most
I'm sure if you're really committed you could get used to it but it's pretty frustrating especially vs using a mouse and normal sized screen, its like purposely handicapping yourself, likewise you can play cs on the deck it works but it's more difficult then it needs to be
Some games work really well on it like Isaac drg fallout really anything you can think of that plays well on console
Then there's some games like total Warhammer, age of wonders etc that work and have controller set ups that work ok and the novelty of playing them on the go or in bed or on the couch is cool
But I'm sure you'll work it out just don't buy one thinking everything will be amazing, some games just don't work either coz of Linux
My long rant sounds negative but they're good for what they are, personally mine allows me to play games more often in the office or on the couch watching TV with my wife, you just have to be really committed to wanting some games to work I guess though if you get a dock and plug it in games are generally easier to play but that defeats the purpose of the deck anyway right
Just get a base model, then purchase a $100 1 terabyte ssd and install it.
yeah the 64gb model is fine but I ran into issues with space as all the different proton versions, runtimes and shader caches are stored on the system I ran out of space while having no games installed at all
Apparently the next update is cutting shader caches in half. We'll have to wait and see
Why is the shader cache even a thing? I don't get it, I never had my 360, PS4, or PS5 get filled up by shaders.
because it's emulating windows games on linux. some of the emulation can be done real-time, but some is harder to translate, so they store the "translation" of those effects to be able to do it faster.
Games can experience stutter when compiling shaders in real time, so there are tricks like using pre-built shader caches or compiling shaders during loading screens to minimize this. A long time problem with DXVK was that it was unable to take advantage of the latter trick, so it was reliant on using pre-built shader caches to get smooth performance (or, alternatively, you would play a game for an hour or two and get stuttery performance to build up a shader cache, then the game would run smoothly).
However, this was largely fixed with DXVK 2.0. So, I'm not sure shader caches are as essential to keep around, but they still probably smooth out performance.
console games are shipped with precompiled shaders because every console is the same
Reminder that you can get cheaper steam gift cards to further reduce the price.
Sheeeiittt TYBA
if you care about multiplayer games like league cod etc a windows one would make more sense. if you just want to play singleplayer games go for the deck. currently playing persona 5 royal and I'm having fun.
Can't imagine buying one of these bricks. Get a screen out of the trash or pay 20 bucks for 1080p, mount it above your bed, and buy a wireless controller and use big picture. Congratulations, you now have something superior to a steam deck for free/50 bucks.
You don't need to play God of War on the go. It's shit anyway. If you want a handheld that badly, get one of those chink ones that can play up to PS1 for 50 bucks, you're never going to run out of shit to play.
i do this all the time
+my phone does literally everything the deck does
fucking pointless device
Third worlders everybody.
>third worlders have better phones than 99% of amerifats
imagine that
Buttonlets
You are reaching turddie
I'd like to see your phone play Ready or Not, or Kingdom Come Deliverance.
it does fucktard
does 64GB version is still the most optimal for gaming even new games like cyberpunk when you are going to use sd card like for example samsung a2 evo card? or they will be stuttering or other problems in comparison to internal ssd? i herad that there won't be noticable difference in fps but stuttering can be problematic
>i herad that there won't be noticable difference in fps but stuttering can be problematic
where did you hear that? all comparisons i've seen show no difference.
anyway just get a 64Gb and if you ever want to upgrade, replacement SSDs are cheap and easy to install.
There should be no performance difference loading a game from an A2 card, but you'll need to upgrade the internal storage for shader cache, that can't go on SD without a performance hit.
Don't bother with the Windows handhelds unless they can run SteamOS. That new ROG Ally can't even put games in suspend mode.
>That new ROG Ally can't even put games in suspend mode.
Wow and with that battery, what a shitty device
baste value anon
Just for bed? Don't bother
yep, i'm thinking deck flopped and shitted extremely badly
Sorry if this is a retarded question, but is there a way to use a wired/ethernet/lan connection with either the steamdeck or ROG ally without shelling out like another 200$ for a dock?
My current laptop's GPU is busted and overheats the moment I run any 3d game, but I want to play SF6 on launch, and the replacement laptop I want to get won't come out till later in the year.
If I use like a lan to USB C converter, would that work with them, and then could I also just HDMI out from the steamdeck/ROG ally to a monitor?
yes, you can use those usb c adapters. the docks are the exact same thing but in a nicer package. get one with HDMI and ethernet and you're good.
don't buy the absolute cheapest adapter, try to get one from a known brand.
get a powered USB-C hub, and you are done
the dock is basically a USB-C hub with a better form factor
You can get docks for like $30 anon the reason you would is so the deck is stood up and the fans aren't blocked, otherwise you'll just be messing around trying to prop it up anyway
>Everyone says TOTK is running great on Steam Deck on Yuzu
>Admittedly, do get good graphical performance on Yuzu
>Crashes every 5 fucking minutes. Entire sections of the game can't be fast traveled to. Sections of the overworld and underground are basically impossible to traverse due to just how crash prone they are.
I really fucking hope I'm retarded and doing something wrong, and this isn't what you idiots are passing off as a playable experience.
I wouldn't know, I buy my video games.
Yuzu has been said to crash a lot on this game. If you want to play TotK i'd come back in a month when they will have had time to fix some issues.
Welcome to Linux gaming, where it only works in people's fantasy, but they repeat the mantra over and over until they convince themselves that it's somehow better than Windows.
I game on windows on my main PC and on linux at work and when using the deck. 99.9% of the time I want to game on linux is spent gaming. The remaining 0.1% is spent following a retard proof guide. Guess you got filtered.
that has nothing to do with linux retard, he's emulating a brand new game. it crashes on windows too.
>emulator has problems
>dude linux sucks
It has nothing to do with Linux.
>REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE EMULATOR DOESN'T RUN A NEW GAME REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
No shit, you retard.
chudix actually works really well but you need shitmd gpu and mesa drivers don't even think about using proprietary amd drivers
don't ever use gayland, use x11
if you're on nvidia it's a shitshow, just use windows don't even bother with linux
that's just yuzu; it's like that on a full pc too
horrible piece of shit emulator i can't stand it
yea you literally are anon
use yuzu ea
use yuzu visual fix mod
install 32497324327 mods because you can
it's unironically a great experience if you aren't a mouth breathing retard falseflagging trannie w/o a deck
I have Yuzu from Emudeck, is that not the right Yuzu?
I have all the mods. I have all the settings set exactly how the internet told me. I have the fixes.
Like I said, the FPS is great but the crashes are literally every 5-10 minutes. It isn't even the app crashing it is restarting my entire Steam Deck.
https://pineappleea.github.io/
this mirrors the "early access" yuzu versions that are normally behind a patreon paywall. technically allowed by the license so yuzu devs are a bit mad but can't do anything about it.
it's not, use the one from here dude
pineappleea.github.io/
it's normally gated by patreon only access because yuzu devs are literal morons
>i have all the mods all the fixes
yeah i'm sure dude, especialy if you dont even know what yuzu ea is
stop larping bro
The deck can't run yuzu? That's pathetic lmao
3 seconds on google you dumb moron
yuzu is a hacky piece of shit and the game is still very new. it needs more time to bake
Reason steam deck runs so much better at lower tdp, is it barely even has an operating system when in gaming mode. Windows is completely tanking the ally.
When is valve making SteamOS open source
It is open source. The problem is they have dedicated much time to Nvidia drivers.
they say they will release it for more platforms in the future, but it seems right now they're still focused entirely on the steam deck. i'm sure they actually intend to release it for other platforms (after all it's a direct frontpage to their store), but who knows when that will be.
If you've got more money to spend, the asus rog is genuinely more powerful at every wattage range except the very lowest. That said, I only have a deck, and I love it. I got mine on launch day, stepped on it almost immediately like a retard, and got it RMA'd for free. I use it to play games when I'm watching something braindead with my gf or friends, which is often. Plus, it doubles as a decent laptop if you pair it with a wireless keyboard and mouse. The deck, deck stand, and peripherals always go with me when I travel because there's nothing better at the end of a long day roadtripping than drinking a blue moon and playing a few rounds of modded binding of isaac, or bumming off the wifi and seeing if WoW will boot up long enough to grind a few dungeons. It's really the only "console" I've ever owned that felt so free, and that's because it's literally just a computer with a thin steam layer on top.
i read every word of this post and it is the truth
Got a steamdeck and never looked back
> ick anon was an echidna all along
fr fr no cap
whoever this moron is, he's got a great setup
c'mon jamal, we are tired of your antics
saw one for $320 used on craigslist
512gb model
debating it.
im using a laptop in bed right now.
>512gb model
it's probably a 64gb someone swapped to 512. it won't have the etched screen.
Etched screen looks worse in my opinion. I own both. But I don't game outside. You'll put on a screen protector anyway.
that's fair. i play mostly inside but near a window and sometimes i get a bit of glare, but i don't have a screen protector. maybe i should get an anti glare one.
this guy didnt seem the type to actually swap the screen
there's a $350 one that's definitely etched screen
Shill thread
>forza horizon 5 is nearly 170gb
1tb sd card suddenly feels so small but it's such a comfy open world racer. i just wish i can squeeze more than 2.5 hours iut of the deck.
Consider these 2 games for your open world racing games on the go.
>i just wish i can squeeze more than 2.5 hours iut of the deck
You can buy a power bank and charge it alongside your deck. It'll let you then charge the deck to full charge a couple times before the power bank needs more juice. If you consider that a valid approach, the deck's battery life ends up being triple whatever it would have been on a single charge.
>a windows handheld alternative?
Deck does run Windows, you know. You can dual boot if you want. The little thing is a beast.
stop lying sir
deck does not run windows
Is this the shitskin way of asking to be spoonfed a guide?
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
Basically all games work unless they're multiplayer with certain types of anti cheat. All the windows alternatives have no trackpad, or if they do, not as good as the steam deck one.
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
nope, unless you want to play something like rainbow six siege that wont run on the deck due to the anti-cheat
the deck simply has much better control options, its a better bang for your buck, and theres a ton of accessories for it, like docks, which are great for gaming in the living room
Cheat Engine tables too. But yeah, generally speaking SteamOS just werks and is a lot more efficient at fine-tuning handheld relevant settings like TDP, frame caps, vsync, etc.
No they're all shit which sucks since Deck 2 is years away.
flop
Any particular way to have a dual screen display while doing ds emulation? All I find are people using stupid 3D printed adapters
no, for DS in particular you have more than enough room for the two screens. for 3ds i guess i could maybe see it, but even then having the top screen big and bottom screen small is usually completely fine. people just do the dual screen thing for the meme and because they like to tinker, i doubt any of them plays through entire games like this.
You mean projecting a second screen to monitor? IIRC you can do it from desktop mode.
The lengths VRfags will go through to not play videogames.
>The lengths VRfags will go through to not play videogames.
you fags dont even know what its like to have fun
I wish I could combine my interest in VR with my interest in linux but SteamVR isn't great yet on linux and still lacks motion smoothing
There are better alternatives period.
>VALIDATE ME FOR PLAYING RETRO GAMES PLEASE Ganker ITS THE ONLY REASON I DO IT
Even as a kid, I hated the brick design of Game Boy and Game Boy Color, why would I try to replicate it in a modern platform?
Because the game boy was an actual portable and this machine is better in every way.
At least simp for a Game Boy Advance SP, PSP, or a DS Lite design, man. These bricks suck.
PSP is too big.
You don't remember the actual size of a PSP-3000 then.
Total manlet death.
i own 6 chinese emulation handhelds and they just sit there gathering dust
meanwhile i use my 'eck every day
I think the best one will be whatever retroid does for the successor of the Retroid Pocket Flip. It mogs everything else, even supports Parallel RDP on retroarch Mupen64Plus which means you can finally lock the fucking screen while playing, while also having accurate graphics
How’s dark souls performance on that thing?
Modern games shit themselves after PS1. There's nothing worth playing after that.
I've been enjoying the fuck out of Vanquish on mine, if I didn't play battlefield I could scrap my desktop entirely.
Buying a deck now when it can't run any new game at 41 fps is kind of a bad idea. It was a good idea last year
Lel, what the fuck is there to even play? Atomic heart and elden cockring were the only half decent releases of recent years, and there is fuck all in the horizon.
damn, it can only run the previous 30 years of AAA games and all future indie games, so sad
I really don't understand people who still want to play AAA shit. It's a dead market, it's all necessarily shit and has been for years, move on already.
I think the last AAA release that was interesting to me was Hitman 3 and I think that might even be AA.
Is that the online only one?
you can play it offline now iirc
GTA 4 in bed is super comfy
Does deck has best performance at low TDP? (≤5watt)
it only goes down to 8 watts but it's the best on the market.
Deck chads... we are so back
Nice!
top looks better
how does it run anon? got the game in my backlog and it looks fun.
>For 400 bucks seems like a no brainer.
you can get a valve index VR headset for $500 and project your games (and your entire desktop for that matter) onto a massive virtual screen floating above you
you can lay in bed using your desktop computer using one of these cheap trackpad keyboards, and play regular flatscreen games using a gamepad
then you can spend the other $500 one day and finish upgrading it to the full VR kit if you want. or just get a race wheel or joystick and play VR race or flight sims
>bro why the fuck did you buy that steam deck
>didnt you know that you could like buy a VR headset, keyboard with trackpad, and fucking racing wheel to get a more immersive experience for roughly four times the cost
what kind of autism is this
the keyboard trackpad to use your desktop and launch games comfortably while in bed is $30
so $530 to have a good VR headset and accomplish the same thing instead of $400
the money is going to the same company anyway
>the keyboard trackpad to use your desktop and launch games comfortably while in bed is $30
Okay but what about anywhere except bed? How is this abomination of a setup going to work?
>so $530 to have a good VR headset and accomplish the same thing instead of $400
See above. Saying "the valve index plus a keyboard with trackpad is the same thing as a gaming computer with a mobile form factor" is buttfuckingly retarded.
>the money is going to the same company anyway
Who cares? Whether valve gets paid isn't a factor in my decision to use a mobile pc to game on the game instead of a god damn VR headset.
im just saying if all you cared about was laying in bed its something to consider
running games in VR even on a flatscreen projected above you is much more demanding though so its not a good idea unless you have a very good computer, but in that case you should get a VR headset regardless
That's got to be bad for your eyes
you can have the virtual screen you're looking at be like 50 feet away so your eyes are relaxed, as opposed to the real screen thats 15 inches from your face
imagine having your computer in your bedroom lmfao what a dump
ive been unable to focus on games most of my life but recently ive been on meds that treated my adhd so i should check my deck again
Only if you want to put Retroarch on it and play old games. If you play anything relatively modern, the battery life just dies after 3 hours. Meh
>huge as fuck
>needs a truck to be carried outside
>non upgradable mid tier PC
>playing PC games without keyboard and mouse
>tinkering pretty much required
I don't see the appeal to be honest. I play mostly on PC and if I wanted to play a handheld I'd get something actually portable and I'd play games designed for a handheld.
>huge as fuck
Honestly, I haven't found this to be a downside. It's far, far more comfortable to play than something like a Switch if you aren't a literal child.
>playing PC games without keyboard and mouse
The trackpads + gyro + all of the other controller mapping features (like being able to make custom menus) are a pretty decent substitute for this. Not as good as KB + M, of course, but it's by far the best you're going to get playing PC games in a portable form factor (which is really one of the things that sets the Deck apart from something like the ROG Ally and other Windows handhelds, which are substantially more limited in terms of input methods/configuration). Tons of PC games have gamepad support in the first place anyway, so it just depends on the types of games you play.
>tinkering pretty much required
Nah, most games justwerk and only a few require minor tweaks. Tinkering is just very common because the platform is open enough to allow it, and you can squeeze a lot of extra performance out of the Deck by doing so.
I wish someone made a trackpad controller. Like the deck just in regular form factor I can use on PC. I probably would stop playing games on M&KB.
p sure valve made a controller with trackpads before they put them in the deck
Bruh
The Steam Controller is exactly what you're asking for, it was a direct predecessor to the Steam Deck. Pretty sure you can pick them up for dirt cheap nowadays.
>Pretty sure you can pick them up for dirt cheap nowadays.
no, they have become way too expensive for how trash they are. deck fanatics absolutely love the controllers and pay ridiculous amounts for them.
Oh, well, shit, I hadn't thought of that. I picked mine up when Valve was liquidating all of their hardware, and it was cheap as fuck. Got a Steam Link for like a buck or two, too.
Unironically get an OLED switch, mod it, and put NYXI Wizard controllers on it. Playing PC only games isn't that comfy with the touchpads, most good games are available on the switch anyway, retroarch etc works good enough, battery life is better and so is the screen. The steam deck is pretty cool but I don't know of any killer app/game besides XEMU for OG Xbox emulation (maybe even cemu for wii u?) AAA games are better on a Series X anyway.
I guess people will call me a tendie, that's okay, you can complement your posts with your favorite Steam Deck games not available on a nodded switch, maybe you can change my mind
>NYXI Wizard
that looks horrible wtf
just get the hori split pad pro
Hori Split Pad Pro
>no motion sensor
>no way to use wireless
>no hall effect joysticks
I've got both, Hori Split pad pro are completely obsolete now
>>no motion sensor
who cares
>>no way to use wireless
yeah it's for handheld play, it would be horrible to use wireless
>>no hall effect joysticks
yeah but it doesn't have shitass gamecube joysticks at least
>besides XEMU for OG Xbox emulation
Deck CPU is too slow for XEMU and GPU too slow for Xenia. Cemu should work fine for native res and no unlocked fps mods.
I used Xemu on my SD for SSX Tricky and SSX3. Worked perfectly and the button layout was identical (besides black and white buttons) with 2x resolution even
Well I guess it depends on game. Ninja Gaiden Black was tricky to run full speed on anything slower than Ryzen 5000 or 11th gen Intel last time I checked.
You know I actually always wanted to play this thing. I'll give it a try on my 12th Gen i5. But I think that game is also available for Xbox back compat right?
It is and it runs perfectly on Xbox via BC.
Demon's Souls.
RDR runs close to 60fps on Windows, and that's all people mean by Xenia, honestly.
"..." button brings up an overlay for settings, that's where you set limits and force speeds, individually or universally.
I got that but is there any specific way to tell the system to not go over 9w or 15w? Like how Digital Foundry here says 9w mode are they just messing with TDP and GPU until it's specifically at 9w?
there's a slider for power, you put it at 9w, and that's it
Oh I'm stupid, I thought it'd be similar to ASUS laptops that do those different modes
Yeah, forcing a TDP limit, setting static GPU clock to prevent aggressive power saving or stutters from not ramping up fast enough, Vsync, MangoHUD (FPS and temp counter), FSR controls. With PowerTools installed you can also tune CPU, relevant for edge cases like Wii emulation.
>PowerTools
but I have heard powertools can brick your steam deck
Haven't heard that. You sure you're not mistaking it for people undervolting too aggressively until it stops booting?
https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/ygzodu/before_mindlessly_recommending_or_installing/
He probably means these stories from good ol' reddit.
>this could be bad bro
>source: it came to me in a dream
Wonderful. What would we do without know it all redd*tors?
>Isn't that a PS3/RPCS3 game?
Yeah.
>If you're a soulsfag you'd be better served with a PS5 in that regard,
About as far away from a handheld as you can get with that size and the demake is terrible.
>maybe even a phone or something for Remote Play,
Gross, I got enough of steaming with the Wii U.
>but playing TV games on a handheld is difficult due to font size, ui elements etc specially on ui heavy games like souls shit, you must have some pretty good eyes
It's not bad, the screen is a decent size.
How much battery are you getting out of it?
>Demon's Souls.
Isn't that a PS3/RPCS3 game? If you're a soulsfag you'd be better served with a PS5 in that regard, maybe even a phone or something for Remote Play, but playing TV games on a handheld is difficult due to font size, ui elements etc specially on ui heavy games like souls shit, you must have some pretty good eyes
I'd get it but not with Switch 2 next year and I don't see why they'd keep OG Switch for more than 7 years.
Anon they kept the NES and the Gameboy alive for so long it wasn't funny. Nintendo doesn't see a problem with the switch being as underpowered as it is now. In fact, it let's them slack off on increasing their assets to 8k textures, super hi definition poly count models etc. I don't expect a Switch 2 until 2025 at least, and I don't know how they will pull this off, they're too retarded to just make a better more powerful switch, they have to have a fucking gimmick
Heavily modded Fallout TTW at 50-60 fps
How'd you get that running, did you install on PC and transfer the game folder over
Pretty much yes, if you maintain the same mod list on your PC and the deck, you can have a shared cloud save for both devices
Neat, thanks
I've been running modded dawn of war on the deck as well, I was able to install the unification mod using the protontricks tool, I'm honestly surprised at how much it can do on its own.
based chink map anon, if you look at taiwan, you'll notice it's under china lmao
I have the same mousepad lmao
so heckin relatable wtf!!!
I actually was going to post this xd that mousepad ftw
I tried modding my new vegas but i can't even get the Mod Configuration Menu to show up. Modding Fallout 4 was no issue.
does MCM require the 4gb patcher to work? the only thing i can think of is that the 4gb patcher didn't run on the deck since it's an exe. gonna try adding the exe to steam and see if that helps
>Playing PC only games isn't that comfy with the touchpads
Says you. I played through like 3/4ths of 2077 using Touchpad and gyro. It works flawlessly.
I can also play porn games.
Well I played Master Duel and it was very annoying trying to use the TouchPads. Same with porn games, albeit that was a little better since those games have huge ui elements for some reason. FPS are better though as you state, but I meant clicky clicky mouse shit
>porn games
wtf? don't you need 2 hands to use the deck?
>he doesn't have a kickstand attachment
ngmi
yea, i'm thinking deck fucking sucks dick
many people are saying this
And many people are retarded as a result.
'orne on 'eck
SD is THE ultimate night shift device
Doesn't get any better than this for me
STOP. ENJOYING. THINGS.
to be quite honest with you senpaitachi, you should invest on either an external SSD or that JSAUX dock with the integrated SSD
its pretty cool to dock the deck and have access to a bunch of extra games without sacrificing much storage, its great for demanding games that drain the battery in portable mode
The new SDs don't have the shitty Delta fans anymore right?
No, I got mine in September 2022 and there's no whine or buzz coming from the fans
I keep seeing videos compare the Deck to the Zog and they say stuff like 9w or 15w power modes but how do you actually access that stuff on Deck? Is it just changing TDP and GPU settings?
I got fucked in the lungs by covid and was sick as fuck for two weeks, could barely get out of bed. Steam Deck was invaluable during that time. I wound up beating GTAIV, GTAV, Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2, Dark Souls 3 from my bed.
oh shit, did you get pneumonia? are you good?
Do yourself a favor and turn off auto updates, that way it will only download shader cache updates when you launch the game. Otherwise it's going to update everything all at once and sometimes it takes forfuckingever.
If by comfy gaming you mean 20 buttery fps in Resident Evil 4, then yes, by all means
I may eventually pick up the rog ally or something similar just for better PS3/360 emulation. I almost pulled the trigger on an ally but decided to wait and see what the 599 version can do, and whether any hardware issues crop up over the next few months.
Within a couple of years all these cheap Chinesium handhelds will be able to handle up to PS2/GameCube, you can already play some of those games on a few of them.
Any anons stream from pc to the deck?
Does it work well?
I've done it a couple of times, works well enough unless you're far away from your PC, then you get pixelation and lag
I tried but I have UW and streaming to 16:9 device results in black bars and I'm too lazy to change the resolution every time before streaming.
Using Moonlight. I used Steam Link once but it looked shit for some reason so I never used it again.
same issue here, I don't bother with it because of the UW issue, kinda wish they would fix it because it works great on an regular monitor
I played around with a vbs script that changed the resolution when I launched sunshine host on pc and back when I turned it off but then I'd have to run it everytime I wanted to stream so it ends up the same.
It's dumb that it doesn't just create a dummy display, force game fullscreen there and mirror it to the 'eck.
I got the deck because it was a cheap PC and it was linux-based. for me, it has completely replaced my PC, no contest. I'm also willing to tinker to get things to work though, so your mileage may vary.
>I'm also willing to tinker
Sometimes it's a drag, I've given up on trying to get a few (much) older games running
Whats a good phone to get for actually emulating games nowadays? I havent upgraded in 5-6 years now and im feeling like getting something decent this time around.
Depends on your budget. Get a chink phone with Snapdragon 870 or Red Magic 8 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 if you have higher budget. I'm not recommending the latter because it's le gayming phone but because it's the cheapest S8 Gen2 device and it has no punch hole in the screen for the camera.
Get a USB-C telescopic controller. Gamesir X2 Pro is great. Avoid other Gamesirs, they require you to install chink spyware to work. Razer Kishi is ok. Kishi V2 is massively overpriced. Backbone is good too.
How bad is the chink spyware?
it has 1.7/5 stars on google play store
you know the place with extemely low standards and barely functioning apps having 3/5 ratings
that bad huh
Since I haven't seen anyone say it, the steam deck is not actually 400 dollars. Realistically, if you buy the 400 dollar version you will run out of space so quick. I had to buy the 500 dollar version and I still had to buy an ssd.card to have enough space to comfortably install all my games. Aside from that, I ended up buying the dock and a mouse/kb to use it when docked as well. I like it a lot though and it's my one purchase I didn't regret.
>I ended up buying the dock and a mouse/kb to use it when docked as well
Just use your desktop at that point tf
... Pretty much this, you'd get access to Windows, if you get a laptop you get a keyboard and TouchPad too, better screen even (Acer swift edge with oled for example? Has a better graphics card anyway)
pc/laptop is not better for a few reasons... More difficult to take places. More expensive and more work to set up. Doesn't boot automatically into steam without some effort. Screen is irrelevant since I want to play on my tv. Also deck can be taken to places a lot easier.
To carry the SD around you need a backpack, maybe one that can fit an Acer Switch Edge, but I feel most of your gaming needs can be solved by a Switch unless you have a very very niche PC games that can not be played anywhere else
I don't like my desktop being attached to a small screen. I mean technically I could move it and attach it to the tv EVERY time I wanted to play but it's not convenient. Deck is more convenient overall and when I get tired I can pick it up and take it with me if I go somewhere or lay down. Deck also boots up into steam immediately and you don't have to really think.
>you don't have to really think.
Anon this is a Linux computer, doing anything in desktop mode requires massive autism to achieve. Just get a laptop you can hook it up to the TV just fine through HDMI or use a dongle adapter for video + charging
bro the trackpads on this are great I am playing STALKER SoC with ZRP, and 2.5dmg mod for PC, and NPCs, and it's siqqq. buy the deck it also helps that it has back-buttons so you can lean in an FPS that has the mechanic. only grip with this console is you have to dual boot for modded FNV, Morrowind, or Skyrim.
i unironically bought.
uh... bros?
>this console is kinda a piece of shit, but I get payed to say I like it!
is what I got from this
These YouTubers love all these handhelds for one video and never mention them again. ETA Prime is the worst for that kind of shit, everything that comes out is the greatest thing ever made and a "____ Killer"
nah taki doesn't give a fuck, and is willing to get blacklisted by other chink dealers like GDP to say the truth
I was maybe a little too broad in my condemnation, I do like some of retro game corps and Taki Udon's videos
others are decent it's just eta fag being a massive disingenuous shill and liar
he's also an old fat fuck and a massive fucking casual that doesn't actually play any games on the shit he shills
I remember the absolute piece of garbage minisforum pc he praised like it was the second coming of the christ while der8auer was shitting on it calling it an abomination of engineering
hate that ETA gay
same
his channel is just advertising random shit.
if you don't have a 512, an anti glare film will go a long way.
yeah i kinda wish i had gotten an anti glare film, especially since vibrantdeck can undo any color saturation loss from it, but i went with a standard tempered glass
I went with an armorsuit antiglare film, it's barely noticeable after it dries.
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
No, unless you're a Bugmen.
>No trackpads.
got a modchip on tiktok for my switch oled shit is fire
I wish some of those fags at protondb would go into a little more detail besides "runs great!" That, or just stop lying, no one's getting near 60fps on Valheim on the steam deck.
i can't get shadow of war middle earth to run despite it being "verified"
tried like every version of proton and GE proton, verified files. redownloading it after unisntalling but yeah idk what the issue is.
playing games in bed has never been this cozy 🙂
>black pixels that don't actually go black + bezels
holy cringe
yeah they really should have gone with an oled. they could have even gotten rid of the touch screen if it helps balance out the cost
This is why I'm waiting for the Steam Deck 2. I have no doubt it will have OLED.
>muh oled that only came out near the end of the Switch's life when everyone already had one and there's better alternatives out there since everything isn't a Nintendo game on it runs and looks like shit
The most disingenuous argument tendies make nowdays. I bet the OLED owners make up 10% of the actual Switch owners IF THAT
>the video that destruyed LCDfags
I can't wait for garden gnomes to let us enjoy OLED properly
you are genuinely retarded if you think this is what it looks like in person i swear oledfags are so annoying
OLED looks a lot better, it is what it is. It's like IPS over TN.
In the past I would have pointed out this is just turning the brightness up to make an unfair comparison.
But now I just laugh because I realize the only big new game that’s come out for the OLED is that BOTW DLC that has a piss-filter.
I'm tempted to upgrade to an OLED Switch, but at the same time I feel like a Switch 2 is like a year to two years out.
Though when that happens, I will be pissed if there is no OLED model of that at launch
>cat chud
didn't read
the verdict is in bruvs
Jesus christ those teeth. Do they just not have toothpaste over in bongland?
no it's very sad
Any accessories you guys recommend? i just go the Jsaux anti slip stickers and the Playvital back buttons. shit's comfy af. I also stuck a phone kickstand to the back
>For 400 bucks seems like a no brainer
People like you are why games get worse and more expensive at the same time
fuck you all Bioshock Infinite is a good game, and im having a blast playing it on deck
i finished the main game again on hard, i finished the clash in the clouds DLC and now im working through the burial at see DLC
i play docked with the PS4 controller, but i think i will need to update my config, im finding that firing with R1 is so much better than R2, since the PS4 triggers are stupidly long
also, pro-tip, you can disable analog triggers on steam input, i just found that out, wish i knew that sooner, that shit is useless in 99% of the games i play, only makes config a bigger hassle
also im a bit disappointed burial at sea does have keybinding for switching weapons, you HAVE to use the weapon wheel, like a fucking animal
>im finding that firing with R1 is so much better than R2, since the PS4 triggers are stupidly long
Can't you tune the percentage of pressure required to register a button press?
you man, but that seems more hassle than its worth
you see, i use gyro controls whenever i can, that long trigger pull throws off my aim, specially when i i try to rapid fire
with R1 however, i was blasting motherfuckers like theres no tomorrow, i replayed the first arena of clash in the clouds and destroyed a handyman using a pistol (and murder of crows because handmen are annoying to deal with otherwise)
Why is there no Steam deck/Portable PC general?
You’re in one
soon, sister
Not enough interest. I'm pretty sure there are more posters in the vita general than in daily dick on deck thread.
yea because vitagen is just /a/ with unironic erp booru gays and offtopic figure spammers
>yea because vitagen is just /a/ with unironic erp booru gays and offtopic figure spammers
That's just every general.
Elder Scrolls General is just people posting the same butts over and over and talking about orc penises
Does the starship trooper game that just came out work for deck?
Runs like shit. I mean it runs like shit on PC too with good hardware so yeah
>bought deck
>bought case
>bought carrying case
>2To SSD
>1To SD card
>Jsaux backplate
>changed the thermal paste
>changed the fan because i got the whiny one
>bought a portable 1080p screen to play fightan with the bros at work
>installed all my fav games, emulators, WoW, soon diablo 4
Tbh i'm having more fun fucking around with the thing than actually playing so far kek
case
carrying case
anon was so excited to shill for product he wrote it twice
Nah i got the jsaux modcase with a hard shell and then an actual case to put the deck and some more shit inside. Turns out the jsaux modcase doesn't really fit into anything so despite being pretty cool i won't use it for now.
>upgrade to 2TB NVMe
>stuck in update hell for 4 hours after reflashing
>replace Delta fan with Huaying
>it's faulty and shuts down trying to spin up from idle to higher end speeds
It's not fucking fair. At least the stupid dock works.
>Play CSGO back in the day
>Back when skins had just come out
>Got a bunch of them
>Stopped playing around 2016 or 2017, haven't really played since
>Log in to CSGO, discover my stattrack dark waters and zirka and shit are all $100 each
>holyshit.jpg
>sell all that shit immediately
>buy the most expensive steam deck option, completely for free, just for selling old CSGO skins
I love mine. Highly recommend.
I'm considering selling the rest of my csgo skins which would get me maybe $500 and putting another $500 in of my own cash for an Index but it's been out for a few years now so I'm scared a more updated Index is right around the corner.
love my deck
think it's about time to take another picture or video for Ganker though
I have an exercise bike in my building. I can just take the deck and use it on that. Thanks for the idea anon, cardio time just got a lot more tolerable.
i can understand using an exercise bike while playing but a fuckign treadmill?
yeah people seem to REALLY have a hard time. I'm going 2-2.5 mph and resting my elbows on the fucking towel you see there while i play jrpgs sometimes.
if i want to jog or run for a bit i pause the game, put the deck on the desk and run until i wanna walk a little while again. it's just supplemental shit
need some recommendations for single player fps games on the Deck bros
fallout
doom
doom eternal
mass effect legendary edition
metro 2033
nightmare reaper
can get a key on sites for like $5-6
>buying keys from sites

Who's the informed consumer again?
fanatical has a bundle that has doom 2016, wolfenstein new order and and old blood.
anyone playing strategy gwmes on the deck obviously not rts, but slowers ones like gsg or 4x? i'm interested in ck3 but i heard the tiny ui makes it impossible to play.
Best coomer games for the deck?
deck sucks shit
>kotaku
>linking the same article twice
1/10 bait, +1 for wasting your life
yep, i'm thinking deck flopped and shitted extremely badly
Why you don't install a tv in front your bed and use a console?
mogged
>Tiny screen is better than big screen
What is this logic?
Tiny screen is big screen if it's close to your eyes while big screen is tiny screen since it's far away
flop
If your just going to play at home get the logitech g cloud. It's 1080p and a better battery life and lighter
mfw this unironically look like better offerings than the rog ally which can't even run shit at low TDP but only get 1-2 hours in 'high end games'
>streaming
Stop.
It will look better streaming streaming from your pc or console than something like the steam deck . I swear to you bro
>Any legit reason to consider a windows handheld alternative?
Not really, unless you're planning to play some extremely demanding games.
>deck
Flop.
>page 11
Shitted. Try again.
Does anyone else with a Deck have that thing where sometimes when you play games the screen would randomly turn black for a half a second?
no, RMA
Best portable
yep, it's flopped
