Fellow big handed anon here. The Deck feels great. It's just a bit bigger than a Switch, but it's definitely heftier. I think that's a good thing though, I like a little bit of weight behind my handhelds and controllers.
No, actually, thing's really comfortable. Your thumbs naturally rest in position for the face buttons and d-pad and you don't have to strain to reach over to the sticks or trackpads. The controls are very well thought-out and they're so comfortable and good for basically anything that I'm hoping beyond hope for a Steam Controller 2 with all of the Steam Deck's controls.

But most people use it as emulation device and only use PC games as a bonus on top.

The Deck isn't just made to sell through software, Steam already does that, and you don't have to rebuy games to play them on a Deck if you already own them on Steam.
The purpose of the Deck is cornering the gaming UMPC market with a nonWindows OS. Valve effective made SteamOS the defacto standard for gaming UMPCs now as all the Chinese ones combined haven't sold 1/10 as many units.
Ironically, I set mine up for emulation figuring that and the only thing I've been playing on it the past six months is PC games.

I'm mad about how little potential they actually followed through with on the joycons. I have one of those Retroflag controllers and it's lovely, but if Nintendo had ever put out joycons with Gamecube style controls I'd have bought that shit day-one. I was all over those NES and SNES controllers and finally got my hands on their N64 controller.
While it looked weird initially, that ended up being a great solution to the dpad/sticks problem that exists with handhelds like the switch.
Deck 2 when? it's already struggling to run the latest games...
