The 'nm' part doesn't refer to any physical dimension. Hasn't since the mid 90s. In terms of physical dimensions, we're still in the tens of nanometers (see pic)
But yes, we can theoretically construct transistors to the width of a few atoms. We already have in labs. Our biggest limitation is doing it at scale with lithography in a way where most of the chips in a wafer aren't duds due to quantum effects.

Why is it called 2 nm if it's actually 45 nm?

They just name the successive processes after smaller numbers. Not all successive processes actually shrink the die and some of them are only minor shrinks.
There's an entire process/industry consortium roadmap for how they name these things and pick the name for whatever comes next.
This is why you also tend to see the fab name before the process nm - 'TSMC 3nm' or 'Intel 7nm' etc.
Digital Foundry put out a video. At most you are getting like a 3-4 frame boost. Not enough to feel bad about buying an OG deck. It's also the same size as the original deck so a drop-in screen replacement is probably possible.
The SLIGHT improvement to performance definitely rounds out some newer gen games that were almost there on the 30 fps mark and helps them reach that consistent capped frame rate. Or 40/45 locked fps too even.
I wonder what life is like for the people who think every product is a beta test for the next product and thus shouldn't be bought.
When do you actually buy? Or is this some kind of cope to justify not buying anything new while you're stuck on some ancient machine from 2009?
Unless you're ok with beta testing you never buy the first gen version of any product, a refresh of beta hardware is not what I would call the end of a beta test.
No, because the beta test will be over you fucking mong. Steam OS is still in development, many games require you to download protontricks to fix annoying issues, shit breaks constantly only to be fixed in the next OS update. This is still a device for autistic nerds who are willing to mess with linux to get shit to run, ill repeat, when it launches worldwide with SD 2 the beta test will be over and the mass market will be a concern.
>you know exactly what you're getting if you buy now
no you dont. I have one and think its the best piece of hardware I've bought in recent memory but its not normie friendly at all. I have had to spend many many hours in Linux solving weird issues with games and the OS, I've had to RMA it twice for strange issues, The weight and size is still too high and the overall performance is slightly below where it needs to be to avoid anal settings tweaking for every game. I still wouldn't recommend it to an average console tard which is obviously valves real aim.
I bought one on release and I definitely don't care. My biggest gripe with it is the size of the thing. I haven't really had issues with battery life and I'm not bothered by the screen at all. The thing is just way too large. I'll wait for potentially one in a couple years that offers similar performance to the current version, but in a smaller form factor (and probably better battery life and less noise as well).
Screen is slightly bigger so they got rid of those fucking bezels. Also they say they improved the cooling. And a bigger battery! And OLED! Fuck!!! It's like they fixed all the things I didn't like on the old one. How can I live happily with my outdated device now? Do I really have to consoom again?!
>Do I really have to consoom again?!
I'm facing the same issue, it's probably not worth it and it'd be fine just waiting for the next model but fuck I really want to buy that 1tb model
I will concede the Deck always had better battery than the Ally but I would still rather play modern games and newer emulation on the Ally while using my Deck or older PC games or GBA emulation
They couldn't have jacked the resolution at least? I mean HDR OLED is good and will at least mean that they're probably making sure the thing can handle FreeSync w/HDR (and will push for enhanced FSR3 compatibility most likely for those who want it). I am glad to see 90hz, but it would have been nice to go ahead to 120hz and FreeSync HDR support. I'm also curious about the CPU+GPU setup - if its just a die shrink or if there's an improvement in architecture too which would be great. ...there's also a goddamn special edition?! Mother fucker its going to be impossible to get one of these things isn't it. I have an original 512gb and its been great. I am wondering if a drop-in screen replacement will be possible/easy. I am guessing to do so would mean new display and power reg to go with it but it should be possible.
The bigger issue though is manufacturing. Gaben didn't realize the original Deck would be popular so even someone like me who got his order in the first hour thanks to the goddamn "oh, we think your account may be doing stupid shit because we didn't turn off the goddamn flood detection cooldown which takes minutes at a goddamn time for limited hardware preorder )(in the US) for a 512 had to wait until fucking July to get it. Hopefully they're going to sort this out this time and both have more/faster manufacturing . I do not want this to turn into some sort of botted nightmare where the LE version is only for scalper fucktards and/or it sells out in literal minutes.
just wait 2/3 years for the successor
this is the New 3DS to the 3DS
the Switch OLED to the Switch
you don't need to upgrade and it's not going to make more games available to you unless you REALLY need the improved battery because you're always on the go and have time to play for some reason (seriously if you're commuting that much i don't envy you)
you can't swap your LCD for the OLED, doesn't work like that
>can't swap LCD for OLED
Well, you may need some other components but you absolutely can do so. I imagine all of those would be in the screen "package" given the control boards and whatnot that you would purchase from iFixit or whatever. Kinda like how having a touchscreen also requires the digitizer and the like.

Literal skill issue. The fucking VELVETA Shells and Cheese was 720p (and SUB that during most games), nobody fucking bitched about a 2-inch square being 720p. Why does a foot screen need to be goddamn 1080?
>Better machines
For $1000+ that flop and have a 30min battery life in comparison to the 'Ecks 1-2 hours.
had to look up [CURRENT YEAR] iphone resos and the pro max is higher than my fucking 2k curved 240hz samsunger its not even OLED cause i dont much give a shit for paying quadruple the price so my spooky games are 10% spookier.
apparently you gotta unlock 120hz mode on the iphone. like a achievement. ngl my biggest gripe with my deck is the 1200reso. up the res, drop the hz. on GOD there's no reason for mobile go to above 49hz. our brains fill in the gaps with motion blur anyway, its more comfortable. gets tricky in VR tho, lotta pussy fags that never played a sport in they LIFE get motion sickness no matter what the settings are. anyway i care way more about fidelity in VR than i do whether or not i can see the scribbles moving on mobile. shit, most of the /vmg/ board seems to be filled up with nothing but static gachashit anyway. cod mobile looks insane tho fucking lol look at this shit >

fucking lmao so worth getting a 15 pro max for!! who needs a ps5 or pc amirite my niggas?!?!
>Thanks for beta testing 'Eckers >t. Gay Ben
Well, fuck Valve I guess. I mean at the end of the day it's not a TOTAL dick move but still pretty shitty to go "oh, we can't offer OLED" and then turn around and do it.
>yeah don't expect any new steam deck for years guy teehee
Thank fuck I didn't buy it on sale but I am still mad. Why are Valve beloved again? They just keep lying, it's not even "technically the truth" type of lying, they just keep deceiving us gamers
I sold my steam deck way back when when in the first 6 months when retards were still paying $500 for the base model with a storange change and case on ebay
This is once again one of the worst kept secrets around. Linux gaming sites were posting information about the new "Sephiroth" APU a while back. We may not have known all the details but we definitely knew new hardware was on the way.
check out the 2 year nintendo switch oled burn-in test by wulff den. it looks atrocious and the deck has a fuck ton of static elements and you'll be using it a lot more than a nintendo switch.
I've had 2 Oled phones burn-in, so I avoid OLED devices (a big reason I went with a high end IPS panel for my main rig)
Burn in reduction is the bread and butter of OLED device manufacturers, if they haven't adapted the UI to it when it comes out they sure will after people start crying for it.
Burn in reduction is the bread and butter of OLED device manufacturers, if they haven't adapted the UI to it when it comes out they sure will after people start crying for it.
With decent burn-in reduction stuff, it really shouldn't be much of a problem. Hell, even some apparent "burn in" can be cleared with pixel cleaning. I have 2 LG monitors, a 48 CX which was a monitor and then finally a bedroom TV, and my current 42 C2 and neither have any burn-in. I will say the CX did have some temporary stuff that showed up only after I had it as a bedroom TV but it was mostly from the FIOS TV boxes having "shit is always on even when its off unless you force it to REALLY off", but even that was cleared with a pixel refresh.
So long as you don't disable the anti-burn in stuff and turn yourself into a complete asshole in how you use it intending it to burn, if s a recent OLED you should be good. I will grant that before 2020 though shit was a major issue.
>Nintendo releasing a Oled model >almost no improvements other than the OLED screen >50 bucks more than the base model >Valve releases a OLED model >A shit ton of improvements alongside the screen >Instead of increasing the price, they just made it the same price as the old models and lower the prices of the old models
And i'm amazed people still suck nintendo's dick
To be fair, Steam Deck was getting beat up big time by competing PC handhelds. Even now, I'd rather get a Lenovo Legion GO or Ally over Steam Deck Oled.
To be fair, valve is selling these things at a loss. I doubt nintendo is selling the switch at one (especially considering the ancient SOC)
to Valve it probably doesn't even matter which UMPC you buy you're still buying Steam games anyway
they just want to continue moving the space along until the market is saturated like the Switch
I owned a switch OLED with super mario odyssey and dragonquest and I sold mine.
Switch OLED in handheld mode can't even play dragon-quest without blurry down scaling, as well as super mario odyssey was really blurry.
I also owned a steam deck and while super mario oddyssey ran at 800p very well and was crisp and clear, the screen was so shit not even vibrant deck could help it and reds looked like orange.
>almost no improvements other than OLED
It has a better battery, stand, speakers, wi-fi and ethernet port. No wonder Nintendo is so profitable, they live completely without the need to pay rent.
question.
I have about $300 in steam wallet funny money from counter strike, can I use that as a partial towards a deck, or do I have to pay entirely with one payment method?
>can I use that as a partial towards a deck
Yes, your wallet funds can be used toward any Steam purchase in addition to a card being the method to cover the rest of the purchase.
Oh wow, I hadn't noticed that initially. The 256GB model uses the old SOC and battery. The two other old models are being discontinued, but that one SKU is still continuing. That means they have dual production lines now. Probably at least double the volume.
Going from 200k units a month, to 400 maybe 500k a month. That is an increase from 2.4 million a year for approximately 4 million sales lifetime now. Maybe 8-10 million units by the end of the year.
So Deck might hit Dreamcast level lifetime sales next year that's unheard of for a PC.
The 256GB version is still being produced and is being sold at the price of the old 64GB version.
By only having a single SKU on that line that lowers the cost and may even let them increase the volume on that line.
256GB makes a lot more sense than 64GB as a base model.
>256GB makes a lot more sense than 64GB as a base model.
64GB buyer here.
Now that an OLED model it's out, I see no meaning in buying LCD model, no matter the price.
With the first Deck iteration, the best model was the 64 GB one with 1 TB SSD and screen protector.
If I had to buy a Deck now, I'd go for the most expensive one.
>90hz screen
...that will never see use unless you're playing indie games >better battery
...that will still die in less than two hours on anything past 2014
>>2023
fucking Windows >Maybe you should switch to consoles since you like getting fucked in the ass so much.
I do wonder if Microsoft is crafting a Windows OS made specifically for these PC handheld devices.
They've been saying they were for the better part of the last decade. from like 2015 on every time someone asked MS would send a reply saying they were working on a tablet and notebook optimized version of windows to replace S/to go with less background resource consumption.
And it still hasn't come out, at this point I think they've scrapped it. They are optimizing for these devices on mainline but mainline windows updates are bloated with so much stupid shit you can't even really tell.
is it really not stupid to buy a Linux handheld and the $90 official dock to use as a desktop PC most of the time instead of just not being retarded and learning how to put a real desktop together
it works but I just feel so stupid even though I did want a handheld PC anyway
it also is kinda buggy as a desktop sometimes which is annoying
do you... do work on your PC?
you sound like someone who uses their phone for most of their tasks so does it really matter?
it's not a good work PC because you're really only limited to flatpaks because of the locked fsbut who knows maybe that's enough for you
i couldn't imagine it being a great experience without a good dock and peripherals though
no I don't work
I just feel like not getting stronger hardware is a waste but I was too wishy washy to commit to a real desktop
I do have the official dock and a decent mouse and keyboard
If it works for you, then it works for you.
I mean it does kinda
just when I play stuff docked I either have to bump it to 1080p and lose fps or use fsr at 720p and it looks like a blurry mess
Should I continue RE Remake, or continue Pikmin? For RE, I’m around the part where you get a disk drive or something. I quit because it spawns new zombies and I just get brutalized.
>AMD APU >ARM
dumbass
Let me guess, you think ARM is just automatically more efficient and ignore that implementation is more important than theoretical ISA shit?
Because Intel and AMD jointly hold all the patents that are needed to make a viable x86 CPU
It's literally illegal to make something people would actually want
>HDR screen >Arch, which Steam OS 3 is based on, does not support HDR
Cool so you can only use it if you install Windows which isn't the OOTB experience
The battery life improvements are what suprised me the most, all they did was Apu shrink and they gained 30-40 minutes on maximum stress battery tests, went from 90 to 128 minutes
Apparently the screen now supports 90hz which means 45fps and 30fps battery saving modes should actually change the display hz too
im more concerned about the first revision screen specifically
build quality, color accuracy, dead pixels, burn out etc
one revision should be enough to fix any major issues
>APU die shrink, bigger battery, faster memory, better haptics, lighter, bigger fan so its quieter, improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi module, better speakers >it's literally the same except its got an OLED screen now
Steam deck isn't a solution for all games. It's so you can ay most games somewhere other than your house. Any AAA dogshit you want to at goes on the PC unless you're a console cuck.
He's absolutely right
assuming he lives in the time before 2010.
If he exists in any date after 2015, no, he's horrifically, laughably incorrect and probably retarded and seething that he doesn't have THE clearest display style on the market.
Fucking finally I'm in. Been painful waiting so long but it's worth it now it got the OLED revision. The screen was the bottleneck for the whole system before. I'd be more than happy to take the plunge on this and could see myself using it for like 4-5 years
Don't care about OLED but >non shit screws >no bezels so bigger screen >better cooling >better trackpads
I must stay strong and wait for Deck 2 to upgrade.
>Do not care for Ally >Do not care for Legion
Now all of those indie pixel game gonna looks amazing with deep black on the Deck OLED finally, time to shit on the switch Oled
Needs a new APU badly. The one big gripe I had was the build quality, so it's nice to see they're willing to continue improving on the design. Steam Deck 2 will be lit
and when they do the next refresh in another 2 years or an unambiguously better competitor comes along you'll end up saying the same thing again
i don't get why you idiots feel as though you always have to have the newest thing and can't be happy with what you have
>gf just got me a Deck last month for my birthday
Really enjoying it but yeah that screen is not great, even with the 3.5 preview. I'd love to sell this one to a friend and use the funds to get the OLED version but we'd have to go through a 2nd party seller with stupid import charges because we're ausfags. Bamboozled again I guess. Oh well, I still like it.
how does shipping work for the deck in the USA?
Fedex? USPS? UPS? Just wanna know so I can re-route it cause I have a feeling it would show up and some fine melanated individual would yank it from my fucking doorstep.
>>with it's bottom of the barrel apu a higher res would mean most games would be 20-25fps
I know, but itd be nice if games ran at 800p by default and there was a high-res option you could toggle for things like emulators, indie games and older stuff
fuck no. so far i've fully played and beaten games that i didnt feel like playing at my PC which include:
sonic mania
sludge life
rune factory 4
flower
cozy grove
ni no kuni 2
pseudoregalia (GOTY)
heart & slash
dredge
brotato
fallout76 with my dad
fallout 3
huniecam studio
south park games
red faction guerilla
huniepop
persona 4
doom64
far lone sails
vampire survivors
This is far too expensive to sell. If they want to ever compete with the switch they need to lower the prices alot, and star making sure that good amount of games runs on it too and increase the battery life by 2x
Glad they weren't unbelievable cunts by waiting to announce this until after black friday, I was going to get the original one if there was a big sale. Might as well skip that now.
Deck OLED. It's the new flagship, just like the Switch OLED is to Switch. You might get a few extra fps thanks to the better memory but Valve isn't promising anything
no one wants to play """"next gen"""" games when it's just code word for shit games that run poorly and excuse it by basically forcing you to use DLSS even with the highest end cards on the market
> 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass >LTE only has the anti-glare glass
didnt this turn out to be worse than the normal screen? is it gonna be better or worse on an oled?
Not "worse" but different. You can get the same impact on visuals by putting an anti-glare screen protector on a normal Deck. It'll probably be less impactful on an OLED screen than an LCD one.
I lost my Deck on a fucking airplane last month so I've been looking for a different UMPC to replace it; maybe I should just pick up an OLED Deck because each of the Windows-based competitors have some severe deficit at a higher price point.
Then again, with my luck, the moment my new Deck comes in the door I'll get a call from Delta's lost and found saying they have my old Deck. Maybe I should just pick up a cheap 64GB while they're discounted so I can just use it as an-home streaming box for one of my TVs if I end up with an extra.
Yes, if I can get one. I like the aesthetic. Its kinda sorta translucent but not as much as some may expect, but has a design on it in certain points and red accents. If I was going to go for the 1TB OLED anyway, why not go for the LE for only a couple bucks more?
Can I hook up a graphics tablet and external screen to this thing and use it for simple art stuff?
Sure you can. Its a full PC. You may just need some sort of port multiplier or dock to get enough ports for that. I suggest the official Deck Dock, but there are also 3rd party ones that range from meh to decent.
Do you think they'll have some kind of transfer program to easily upgrade from the previous deck? (similar to how you transfer everything over for an older smart phone)
valve has their own process they recommend to clone the drive when you RMA it. Its a pain in the ass though so I just re-did everything which was also a huge pain in the ass.
They really need to make a streamlined method for upgrade.
>buy OLED >your eyes hurts now
LMAO
even most expensive western phones have don't give a fuck about PWM.
Steam deck's OLED will make you blind in two years for sure
>mfw got the base 64gb deck for 300 during steam summer sale >spent about 250 bucks on upgrade to 2tb, got the killswitch case, 10000mah 65w battery strapped to back
If you already have a deck there's no need to give into buyers remorse and consoom the OLED.
it's honestly super impressive they managed to get a 1000 nit HDR OLED onto a handheld, but I am more interested in upgrading from RDNA2. Zen 4 and Zen 4c APUs look so powerful in other handhelds
Kodi is one of the best options because it has a fuckload of addons (including those conducive to piracy), and is open source. Works quite well with Deck w/ Dock.
I dare say that Valve should bundle it into both Gamescope and the Desktop versions of SteamOS (or at least let it be an easy install suggestion), with some nice SteamOS skins. For years I said that Nintendo should have done the same with the Switch - a Kodi version customized with a Nintendo skin would have been perfect, but no they got stupid just when they got hardware capable of doing what the Wii/WiiU/3DS had promise for app support.
I use kodi to watch shit on my deck. Anything better?
fucking BASED kodi users.
Diggz Xenon Nexus build allows you to pirate and scrape nearly any show and it's very easy to install on Deck. runs flawlessly too compared to an amazon fire tv stick or roku lol
How long you think before Deck 2? Ally and Legion may have their issues but in right now they already surpass Deck and future competitors won't be getting any weaker. Switch 2 is creeping up on the horizon and is looking to at least be very close to the deck. Even if it's still a decent option it won't stand out in the market anymore. But then maybe they will be content to let it fade into the backrgound if their priority is just to get people attached to Steam.
They are currently working on it but waiting for APUs to get to a point they feel is "next-gen" performance and efficiency. Multiple articles quote Valve engineers estimating 2025 to 2026. The OLED is the mid-gen refresh
My guess would be Deckard getting the new chip first in 2025, and the Deck 2 arriving in 2026.
Deck really might pass the Commodore 64's lifetime sales before its phased out.
Valve might also extend its life by making a super cheap set top box version for emerging markets.
I doubt they'll phase out the Deck, it's already been hugely successful and they clearly are in tune with what the market is looking for in a handheld. They're managing to appeal to damn near everyone, and that goodwill is worth a lot
Yeah, I don't mean 'get out of the handheld market' I mean phasing out the Zen2/RDNA2 SoC of the current Deck.
Like I said, Valve is going to keep using that chip as long as they can because the initial costs of AMD's semi-custom SOCs is high, but once you've got one designed its super cheap to produce them, and Deck is going to make a sensible minimum spec for PC games for a long time.
This seems a bit foolish - by the end of next year we're going to have Zen5 CPUs and likely RDNA4 era GPUs. I would have liked to see the OLED deck get a Zen3 or preferably Zen4 CPU core + RDNA3 GPU core APU, both of those exist now and are big uplft over the Zen2 cores. Not that its horrid performance at all and Valve did a really godo job getting the RDNA2 GPU back when that was the latest thing around, but it can move forward in an interative fashion and allow for more cores, more threads, higher single and multi core performance and more even without waiting that long.

Just to let you know you can install the same stuff on Diggz Xenon manually if you want. I use TMDB Helper (for browsing. It needs to launch something else in order to actually watch stuff), Seren, and Otaku the last of which is an actually really well done anime addon that is amazingly updated by people who know what they're doing and NOT limited to a handful of sources. There are other good options out there like Fen, TheCrew, Umbrella for generalized content and other stuff for specifics, but Seren for general and Otaku for anime tends to do what one needs. All this works very well on Deck too, admittedly installed in desktop mode.
What's there to worry about really? Valve isn't trying to compete with Nintendo, and either way the Deck can play Switch games, and now the new one will do it even better
i turned on perf overlay on Steam Home and noticed my deck was slurping up 8 to 10 watts while idle. I have Decky Loader and CSS Loader. 50% brightness. it's driving me insane
I hope the display on the OLED will be FreeSync/VRR capable too. If its just a matter of getting it to work on Gamescope or whatever that's one thing, they can sort it out in time, but the hardware should have that kind of support.
If anything it be the best portable emulator device around for the price, especially if you just run it through Launchbox or something. Never intended to play Cybersnooze or Baulders anyways
From a Valve engineer:
https://twitter.com/lawrenceyang/status/1722679483944284249 >You won't be able to swap displays between LCD and OLED models - the motherboards are incompatible and we have overhauled the internals significantly.
>We will be working with iFixit again to provide replacement parts and guides for Steam Deck OLED though.
>no VRR
All I've heard is the panel supports native 60/80/90hz display, so that'll suck for games you can't get running perfectly stable at 30/40/45fps.
Cool, I'm still not buying it.
>not available in my country
same, the west must fall
Valve: don’t expect a faster Steam Deck ‘in the next couple of years’
Well that was a fucking lie.
It's the same specs besides the screen and the battery
7nm apu vs 6nm apu?
It will have the same gayming performance with slightly lower power consumption.
node shrink ala PS5 most likely. Phoenix 2 (Zen 4C) is 4nm so it's definitely not a new architecture.
>6nm apu
>approaching dna
wtf I didn't know they could construct stuff that small
well dna is that small so it's possible
The 'nm' part doesn't refer to any physical dimension. Hasn't since the mid 90s. In terms of physical dimensions, we're still in the tens of nanometers (see pic)

RAM speed has increased too.
Digital Foundry put out a video. At most you are getting like a 3-4 frame boost. Not enough to feel bad about buying an OG deck. It's also the same size as the original deck so a drop-in screen replacement is probably possible.
They said the oled deck has anywhere between 5 to 10% uplift in performance, with 8% on average.
and he said in reality that's at most a 2-3 frame increase, thought their tests showed as much as 4.
yeah, 8% of 30-60fps is 3-4 frames on average.
faster downloads speed
90 Hz screen
bigger screen
better battery
new joysticks
6nm chip
yeah it's the same
it's a 3 to 4 fps boost mate. the one thing people care about is the better battery life and OLED screen, hence why that it's what is been advertised
The SLIGHT improvement to performance definitely rounds out some newer gen games that were almost there on the 30 fps mark and helps them reach that consistent capped frame rate. Or 40/45 locked fps too even.
shrinking it to 6nm also means better power performance though, and that compounds with the battery size increase

Valve's aim is to fuck with Windows.
And? how do you fuck with windows? you take their market share which is normies. I'm glad you agree with me.
The real beta test is anyone who bought a 1st gen ROG Ally instead of a Deck
buying a deck with it's midrange apu is pretty funny ngl
"it can play at 40fps, oh wowweee!"
Digits confirm, patient gamer master race.
holy guacamole
Ok cool but when are we getting the CRTsteamdeck?
About what I expected
Still happy with my Deck tho, been using it a lot since March 2022.
This. I bought mine online, without ever seeing it in real life, and it's massive.
LMAO
THE SWITCH 2 IS FUCKING DEAD
STEAMCHADS STAY WINNING
Nintendo is a cult. It doesn't matter if you have better hardware. Niggas gots to have them directs.
neat
kinda wish they held off a year or two and put all that into steam deck 2 instead tho
Kino is back on the menu
Screen is slightly bigger so they got rid of those fucking bezels. Also they say they improved the cooling. And a bigger battery! And OLED! Fuck!!! It's like they fixed all the things I didn't like on the old one. How can I live happily with my outdated device now? Do I really have to consoom again?!
Yes. Buy the limited edition version as well.
just wait for the next model
it's like upgrading yo phone
>not for sale in my country
Guess I'm hanging onto mine for a bit longer.
i want pikachu to suck the cock
>Do I really have to consoom again?!
I'm facing the same issue, it's probably not worth it and it'd be fine just waiting for the next model but fuck I really want to buy that 1tb model
>Do I really have to consoom again?!
lol nope, I'm waiting for the one which will actually be a next generation base model performance wise.
Biggest disappointment is no discount for OG owners.
I got one of the first decks. No plan to swap. Happy with my own.
bezels were my biggest complaint. slight improvement in apu + 25% bigger battery on top of that is really making me want to consoooom. fuck.
They added 90s soul to it as well
only the limited edition.
>HDR on linooks
Thank you Volvo.
Could you swap the screen? I know ifixit sells replacement screens already.
probably the physical size of both devices is exactly the same. They've just shrunk the screen bezels.
They confirmed it, oled screen isnt compatible with old decks due to changes in cables/mobo/fan.
link?
nta, I havent fully seen it, but I assume the Tested vid, they have a talk with devs
bro OLEDs are not swappable with LCDs
different power consumption and everything
and you're missing out on the other upgrades that make it worth it.
Nice, I was planning on getting one this month. Dunno if I want the 512 or 1TB version.
>Dunno if I want less storage or more storage
Retard
I guess for $100 I might as well get the 1TB. How's the etched glass?
I got a tab s9 ultra 512gb for the same price. No thanks.
On what the used market? Kek
Tablets suck for gaming unless you're gonna use a controller at a table, but at that point why not get a laptop.
Because game capable laptops are orders of magnitude more expensive than chink shit tablets.
>>LCD Version is being discounted.
wrong
LCD is staying as the bottom feeder option with 256gb
Waitchads, WE FUCKING WON
>not available in my country
Hey Gaben you fat fuck, what gives?
You are probably looking at Limited Edition.
Or you are truly living in the shitty country.
The original one didn't even became available in my country yet lmao
>no pre-order
This better not sell out before I can get one.

F
Poor spammer, what will he do with his life from now on?
RIP to a king
Are they offering it in more countries now?
Im guessing you're australian/nz? no you're still fucked
limited edition Orange deck also only for north america, no mexicans
Okay but why
because australia forced steam to do refunds so steam has now blacklisted your shithole
nz is just too insignificant to ship to
But not too insignificant to move to, you fat fuck.
This is what grates me.
Our media sucked his dick while he was here and he couldn't even repay the favour.
>mfw beta tested
fuck. specially jealous of the up to 90hz part. at least i bought the 64gb version.
At this point the Lenovo one just seems obviously better except for the OLED screen.
you can fuck right off, gaben
Scalpers will get you covered :^)
Or just buy aftermarket shell if you like the look of it.
fuck scalpers im just gonna buy the 512 oled model
stop giving in to FOMO you retards
when you're using your device you're not going to care how it looks
This weirdly looks like a firearm design.
>cheapest OLED is 700 leafbucks
ehhhhhhhh I'll wait
Sounds like it will undervolt great due to die shrink.
>mogs the protag without even trying
?si=jbIYWTD7x8KmHmx3
Wrong thread bro. I have both threads open too. Too bad SO6 doesn't run well on deck. Runs okay on rog ally. Still an ugly mess at lower resolutions.
neat
thats fucking amazing AND the thing is like 50g lighter
>ROG Ally was near same shit as deck at 15w
>OLED deck demolishes it
RIP chink shit buyers
I will concede the Deck always had better battery than the Ally but I would still rather play modern games and newer emulation on the Ally while using my Deck or older PC games or GBA emulation
The Ally has better everything but man did Asus royally fuck up with that small ass battery. They really need to revise it with a 55-60Wh battery.
wow
Can't believe they didn't opt for 50Wh to begin with.
they have more space now with the new screen, it's also why the new fan is a bit bigger
>Oled
Say goodbye to your eyesight
Genetics already took care of that.
I GOT MINE LAST YEAR NOOOOOO
>I no longer have the best version of Deck-tan
Grim but waiting for Deck 2 with actual performance upgrade.
Early adopters BTFO
Enjoy your LCD trash LOL
I am
>$819 leafbux for a 1tb OLED
>I paid $400 for a 64gb LCD an $130 for a 1tb SSD, total $530
I'm good, thanks.
the OLED model also has better performance and battery life
I had an original deck and I returned it within 10 days.
The screen is so bad that it's literally unbearable.
I'm glad I sold mine because now I can buy the oled model.
No regrets
why can't they release a smaller version?
Because it would have a 5 second battery life without a massive battery
Review here
?si=xJIptn2VUa-SF6MM
>late 2023
>valve still won't ship these things directly to australia
>$679.00
Yeah, I'm fine with my base model.
Kinda like how having a touchscreen also requires the digitizer and the like.

>still 800p
>still has hideously outdated specs
Fucking why. Competitors have released vastly better machines.
All the handhelds with better specs also have much worse battery life.
This alone makes $team Dick OLED a better deal, don't you think?
>All the handhelds with better specs also have much worse battery life.
No they don't.
>outdated chinese devices with no community support
sad!
No. I want a display that can give me displays made within the last 20 years
okay now name a single one as cheap as the deck
Laptops crush the deck in terms of price, performance, battery, display, and not using linux
lol
lmao
there is not a single laptop worth a damn under 800 dollars
>needs 1080p
Literal skill issue. The fucking VELVETA Shells and Cheese was 720p (and SUB that during most games), nobody fucking bitched about a 2-inch square being 720p. Why does a foot screen need to be goddamn 1080?
>Better machines
For $1000+ that flop and have a 30min battery life in comparison to the 'Ecks 1-2 hours.
Face it, Tiger: Your poojet cope is shit.
>Why does a foot screen need to be goddamn 1080?
Because I want it to be.
had to look up [CURRENT YEAR] iphone resos and the pro max is higher than my fucking 2k curved 240hz samsunger its not even OLED cause i dont much give a shit for paying quadruple the price so my spooky games are 10% spookier.
apparently you gotta unlock 120hz mode on the iphone. like a achievement. ngl my biggest gripe with my deck is the 1200reso. up the res, drop the hz. on GOD there's no reason for mobile go to above 49hz. our brains fill in the gaps with motion blur anyway, its more comfortable. gets tricky in VR tho, lotta pussy fags that never played a sport in they LIFE get motion sickness no matter what the settings are. anyway i care way more about fidelity in VR than i do whether or not i can see the scribbles moving on mobile. shit, most of the /vmg/ board seems to be filled up with nothing but static gachashit anyway. cod mobile looks insane tho fucking lol look at this shit >
fucking lmao so worth getting a 15 pro max for!! who needs a ps5 or pc amirite my niggas?!?!
>Thanks for beta testing 'Eckers
>t. Gay Ben
Well, fuck Valve I guess. I mean at the end of the day it's not a TOTAL dick move but still pretty shitty to go "oh, we can't offer OLED" and then turn around and do it.
>1280 x 800
LMFAO
Buy an ad..
I still want a Steam Deck Mini instead.
this tbqd. OLED is good but a shrinked device would have been even better
Yup. SD is just too retard huge.
They need to release them with pretty colors
>yeah don't expect any new steam deck for years guy teehee
Thank fuck I didn't buy it on sale but I am still mad. Why are Valve beloved again? They just keep lying, it's not even "technically the truth" type of lying, they just keep deceiving us gamers
I sold my steam deck way back when when in the first 6 months when retards were still paying $500 for the base model with a storange change and case on ebay
It has been a while, last one was announced in 2021
Having a sale like 3 weeks ago and then doing this is kinda shitty.
This is once again one of the worst kept secrets around. Linux gaming sites were posting information about the new "Sephiroth" APU a while back. We may not have known all the details but we definitely knew new hardware was on the way.
>HDR
still useless on linux, unless you start the steamdeck with gamescope instead of kde
I prefer 1200p IPS over 800p OLED. IPS never gets burn in either.
trackpad
I bought my Deck only a year ago and I still feel ripped off by this. The OG ones haven't even been out for a full two years yet
Should have made it smaller instead.
is burn-in really that likely?
No, it's just LCDfags coping they bought the shit Deck
check out the 2 year nintendo switch oled burn-in test by wulff den. it looks atrocious and the deck has a fuck ton of static elements and you'll be using it a lot more than a nintendo switch.
I've had 2 Oled phones burn-in, so I avoid OLED devices (a big reason I went with a high end IPS panel for my main rig)
Burn in reduction is the bread and butter of OLED device manufacturers, if they haven't adapted the UI to it when it comes out they sure will after people start crying for it.
>check out the burn in on a device that has been left running 24/7 for over 2 years
how is your takeaway from that experiment that burn in is a problem for an average user?
> Laptops crush the deck in terms of price, performance, battery, display, and not using linux
>Nintendo releasing a Oled model
>almost no improvements other than the OLED screen
>50 bucks more than the base model
>Valve releases a OLED model
>A shit ton of improvements alongside the screen
>Instead of increasing the price, they just made it the same price as the old models and lower the prices of the old models
And i'm amazed people still suck nintendo's dick
To be fair, Steam Deck was getting beat up big time by competing PC handhelds. Even now, I'd rather get a Lenovo Legion GO or Ally over Steam Deck Oled.
to Valve it probably doesn't even matter which UMPC you buy you're still buying Steam games anyway
they just want to continue moving the space along until the market is saturated like the Switch
>No trackpads on either of those
You Bugmen shills don't even hide it.
>please keep sponsering my fav pc shopfront
get help cheetoman
Hello, Tim!
based
To be fair, valve is selling these things at a loss. I doubt nintendo is selling the switch at one (especially considering the ancient SOC)
I'm buying steam deck OLED day one.
>almost no improvements other than OLED
It has a better battery, stand, speakers, wi-fi and ethernet port. No wonder Nintendo is so profitable, they live completely without the need to pay rent.
The better battery didn't come with the OLED, and the rest is negligible compared to the improvements that Valve achieved
question.
I have about $300 in steam wallet funny money from counter strike, can I use that as a partial towards a deck, or do I have to pay entirely with one payment method?
you can use the wallet+other payment option combo
Many csgo traders bought it for steambux so you probably still can
>can I use that as a partial towards a deck
Yes, your wallet funds can be used toward any Steam purchase in addition to a card being the method to cover the rest of the purchase.
DF loves it
How humble of Valve to not mention any performance improvements
Guess we have DF to do that job for them
imagine double dipping for the same shit Deck hardware when the Legion Go JUST came out
This is a way better device. That 8,8' display is no joke.
I want someone to come out with a 13" handheld, you know A REASONABLE SIZE.
Even Apple does it. Sick of these phone sized things.
okay andre the giant
Yeah, what about it?
Lose weight fatty
Why does it have the Ubuntu logo in the corner?
>no VRR
>not even OLED
yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikes.
>the competition just keeps making bigger Steam Decks instead of smaller
Fucking kill me
Ally is way smaller.
The AokZoe A1 Pro already destroyed Steam Deck by literally every metric possible. It's smaller, more powerful, quieter, cooler and more versatile.
>the 1100$ handheld pc beats out the 399$ handheld pc
wow, ya don't say?
You can get one for way cheaper than that. And don't pretend the $400 SD model is worth jack shit.
>you can get a second hand of [my machine] for cheap
>but you can ONLY use the highest price version of [your machine] for comparison!
lmao
man, why do the sides look so cheap? like some chink shit, is it just the photo?
Whats the os?
Okay, how the hell do I buy this thing
you read the massive shill campaign valve is pushing that says it comes out on the 16th you fucking retard.

So Deck might hit Dreamcast level lifetime sales next year that's unheard of for a PC.
>cheaper units gone
Dammit valve
you can still get em for now at a discount but they wont produce any more
The 256GB version is still being produced and is being sold at the price of the old 64GB version.
>90hz screen
...that will never see use unless you're playing indie games
>better battery
...that will still die in less than two hours on anything past 2014
I get 4h of Timberborn on my Deck, if the new one will give me 5h that's all the improvement I need.

Next Xbox is probably going to be a handheld, Microsoft has been talking again about going to ARM and dropping legacy compatibility again.
Bros I just want a new PSP.
Wow now you guys can play Baldur's Gate 3 at a silky smooth 8 FPS at 250p upscaled with blurry FSR but now on an OLED!
okay now what about good games
Wait deck can't run BG3?
What about X4?
Waitchads are eating good today. I do not regret my purchase however.
These naggers better offer an upgrade kit
>Upgrade kit
>That will be $550
Ez.
I mainly used mine docked to be honest.
Same, it's basically a second PC for me now.
yeah it's the PC i can take to the living room
attach a drive and watch movies too
mine is literally my only desktop PC
am I a retard?
No. It's a perfectly fine PC.
is it really not stupid to buy a Linux handheld and the $90 official dock to use as a desktop PC most of the time instead of just not being retarded and learning how to put a real desktop together
it works but I just feel so stupid even though I did want a handheld PC anyway
it also is kinda buggy as a desktop sometimes which is annoying
If it works for you, then it works for you.
do you... do work on your PC?
you sound like someone who uses their phone for most of their tasks so does it really matter?
it's not a good work PC because you're really only limited to flatpaks because of the locked fsbut who knows maybe that's enough for you
i couldn't imagine it being a great experience without a good dock and peripherals though
no I don't work
I just feel like not getting stronger hardware is a waste but I was too wishy washy to commit to a real desktop
I do have the official dock and a decent mouse and keyboard
I mean it does kinda
just when I play stuff docked I either have to bump it to 1080p and lose fps or use fsr at 720p and it looks like a blurry mess
Should I continue RE Remake, or continue Pikmin? For RE, I’m around the part where you get a disk drive or something. I quit because it spawns new zombies and I just get brutalized.
Stop stealing games.
I purchased RE.
I will stop when demos return.
>no arm
INTO THE TRASH
IT GOES
>AMD APU
>ARM
dumbass
Let me guess, you think ARM is just automatically more efficient and ignore that implementation is more important than theoretical ISA shit?
Then why does the switch use AMR UHHHH?
Why does Nvidia use ARM UHHHHH?
Because Intel has a lot of patents related to x86. paying ARM is much cheaper. BTW, ARM is just ISA, while apple use ARM ISA too
Because Intel and AMD jointly hold all the patents that are needed to make a viable x86 CPU
It's literally illegal to make something people would actually want
Why the fuck would you want a PC gaming device to use ARM when PC games are overwhelmingly x86
Are you retarded
>HDR screen
>Arch, which Steam OS 3 is based on, does not support HDR
Cool so you can only use it if you install Windows which isn't the OOTB experience
it supports HDR, and has since like september when the 3.5 beta dropped.
Allegedly
>HDR just works
Source: DF
>source: shillfoundary
Thanks for letting me know it won't work at all
Name 1 (one) instance where DigitalFoundry has praised a product that doesn't work at all.
PS5
Any time they say 30fps is ok
fair point but the PS5 doesn't exclusively run 30fps
honestly the biggest surprise, hopefully they will add VRR to the built-in display
It doesn't have VRR. Valve would have bragged about it if it did. Also
>90Hz
still natively portrait mode, so no FreeSync and bad compatibility
>It doesn't have VRR. Valve would have bragged about it if it did. Also
that's why I said "hopefully"
>natively portrait mode, so no FreeSync
Is this a FreeSync limitation, or gamescope?
>still natively portrait mode
Where did you get that info? I have not found a definitive answer.
Loonix now supports HDR, but only through GamesCope, which is what the Deck uses.
> increase battery to cover up short gameplay time
it looks like a nice dumbbell
so is Ganker going to pretend like they love OLEDs now despite being saying LCD is superior when the Steamdeck first came out?
Should we still pretend that Ganker is a single person with schizophrenia?
You mean like how everyone ignored OLEDs until nintendo released one?
sony did oled handhelds first thoughever
that's what i'm saying
it's suddenly the gold standard for handhelds because nintendo finally did it
I did not. I only said that LCD is good enough to not care
if I didn't already have a LCD steam deck I would
>supports wake via bt
hm, I wonder if they're putting in a standby/sleep mode so I don't have to leave the fucking screen on while I download
The battery life improvements are what suprised me the most, all they did was Apu shrink and they gained 30-40 minutes on maximum stress battery tests, went from 90 to 128 minutes
Apparently the screen now supports 90hz which means 45fps and 30fps battery saving modes should actually change the display hz too
they also increased battery size by 20%.
Kill me I'm retarded and didn't see that
Would be chad if they offered some kind of trade in incentive to upgrade to the new model
Just sell your old one
this is great
im gonna wait for second revision tho so they iron out the initial issues
Same
This version of Steam Deck just isn't powerful enough
im more concerned about the first revision screen specifically
build quality, color accuracy, dead pixels, burn out etc
one revision should be enough to fix any major issues
I don't how but your gif reminded me of this.
sex
>it's literally the same except its got an OLED screen now
it literally is not the same
retard
>I didn't read the thread: the post
This isn't the Nintendo Switch OLED
It's literally the same panel. Nintendo paid for it, Valve reaped the rewards.
So we can blame Nintendo for not having VRR on the Deck OLED?
Yes, pretty much.
The Switch OLED display has secret HDR support?
>APU die shrink, bigger battery, faster memory, better haptics, lighter, bigger fan so its quieter, improved Bluetooth and Wi-Fi module, better speakers
>it's literally the same except its got an OLED screen now
yeah aside for the laundry list of improvements, it's exactly the same
None of the Steam Deck can play Alan Wake 2. "Future proofed" $499 for more next gen games lol.
Why would anyone want to play that shit?
The deck is a glorified PC, you can get Alan Wake 2 to run. Mind you it's at 25~ fps but it runs it about as well as the Switch runs most multiplats.
>to run
>266p 25FPS
This is beyond unplayable.
Steam deck isn't a solution for all games. It's so you can ay most games somewhere other than your house. Any AAA dogshit you want to at goes on the PC unless you're a console cuck.
I'm buying a 512GB refurbished model, thanks.
>refurbished model
battery barely works for a year and you probably need a new battery soon.

Who cares, handhelds are for children and manchildren anyways.
someone told the Oled displays don't last long is he trying to deceive me ?
He's absolutely right
assuming he lives in the time before 2010.
If he exists in any date after 2015, no, he's horrifically, laughably incorrect and probably retarded and seething that he doesn't have THE clearest display style on the market.
smaller bezels look nice
I got one of the first steamdecks, going to buy the limited edition oled and give my old one to my friend
>steam deck 2 is out
but should I wait for a steam deck 3?
I still don't get this product. If I needed to game on the go I'd just get a Switch.
you're retarded then. the deck can play all switch games, emulate nearly every system, and can play most of my steam library
at 800p lol
>at 800p lol
so 80 more than Nintendo
>blackbarred switch games
winning!
>the deck can play all switch games
Right, to get smooth 60 in TotK I needed to upgrade my cpu from 5800x3D to 13900k. I'm sure the dogshit amd APU can compare to those.
>playing Elden Ring on the go
Why in the everloving fuck would I want to play that at 20fps 720p low details?
>Why in the everloving fuck would I want to play that at 20fps 720p low details?
But you'd play TOTK with the same issues?
The Steam Deck can't play Alan Wake 2 because it's a next gen game and the Switch 2 runs the next gen engine Unreal 5. Cry Deckie.
>i-it can't play the newest goyslop! haha i win!
Truly zoomer brainrot is real
Have fun playing Elden Ring on the go with Switch!
Oh wait...
It's the Switch but it runs games better and has an infinitely larger library. It's a good version of the Switch.
ick on oleck when?
In terms of lowering the waiting time, the 512gb is the one to get, right?
Just add an anti-glare screen protector and slot in a 1tb or 2tb drive
Fucking finally I'm in. Been painful waiting so long but it's worth it now it got the OLED revision. The screen was the bottleneck for the whole system before. I'd be more than happy to take the plunge on this and could see myself using it for like 4-5 years
>bought a normal steam deck 2 weeks ago
no no no this can't be happening... what am I gonna do?
>2 weeks
return it
ask them for a refund so you can buy a new one.
Why are the models vary in price so much, isn't it just memory space?
fleecing simps is what valve does best
cheap model cheap screen
medium model more storage better screen
high model most storage better screen with antiglare
Don't care about OLED but
>non shit screws
>no bezels so bigger screen
>better cooling
>better trackpads
I must stay strong and wait for Deck 2 to upgrade.
touchscreen is more responsive too
only time i remember using the touchscreen is to choose the timezone when i first turned it on.
It's useful if you need to use a mouse for UI stuff but don't want to actually use the touchpad for it.
Not biting until VRR.
Because Elden Ring is buttugly no matter the settings.
Cool beans
>Do not care for Ally
>Do not care for Legion
Now all of those indie pixel game gonna looks amazing with deep black on the Deck OLED finally, time to shit on the switch Oled
no point in buying it when the switch 2 is next year.
>30fps
>lcd
Switch 2 is dead.
I should have waited. I should have waited. I should have waited. I should have waited.
Needs a new APU badly. The one big gripe I had was the build quality, so it's nice to see they're willing to continue improving on the design. Steam Deck 2 will be lit
just ordered the LTE
OH NO NO NO
?t=421
>linux racemixing tips benchmarks
Yeah, no, when's the metal head dude benchmarking this.
wtf
I'll wait for the autistic steve benchmarks because he actually knows what he's doing
>only the min FPS dipped
>avg and max increased
hmmm something seems funky here to me
someone explain how the fps max increased
The RAM in the OG Deck is 5500MHz. The OLED has 6400MHz. APUs love memory bandwidth.
Do Alan Wake II next on the Steam Deck. Oh right 144p 10FPS videos are the only configuration that achieve that on the Deckie last gen specs.
>seething tendie mad that he wasted $350
>do *poorly optimized woke game that runs like shit even at 1080p on 4k series cards* next
>haha this 15W TDP handheld can't handle it, huh?
ok?
>>do *poorly optimized woke game that runs like shit even at 1080p on 4k series cards* next
But they just did Cyberpunk, anon.
I'm not doing that pozzed garbage on Deck or any other device.
Then get another PC handheld if you must play the latest AAAslop. They actually run it at 15W 720p
>min/max fps
what is this shit? how is this useful to the consumer? just give the average and %1/%0.1 lows
i don't watch youtube but i don't remember him being this autistic back in the days. did asian pussy got to his brain?
>linus benchmarking being absolutely wrong
guess ill wait for gamers nexus
CALLING ALL WAITCHADS
WHERE WE FUCKING @@@@@?
i should have waited
and when they do the next refresh in another 2 years or an unambiguously better competitor comes along you'll end up saying the same thing again
i don't get why you idiots feel as though you always have to have the newest thing and can't be happy with what you have
It's either use what you got or always wait for the next thing. But the Index successor will be announced any day now right?
>gf just got me a Deck last month for my birthday
Really enjoying it but yeah that screen is not great, even with the 3.5 preview. I'd love to sell this one to a friend and use the funds to get the OLED version but we'd have to go through a 2nd party seller with stupid import charges because we're ausfags. Bamboozled again I guess. Oh well, I still like it.
>HDR
Really should've seen this coming after they implemented HDR support in SteamOS.
I bought the most expensive steam deck (during that 10% sale or whatever) and it's my only PC
I'm feeling really stupid right now
it's faster...
only by 4 frames
That's 11% more
how does shipping work for the deck in the USA?
Fedex? USPS? UPS? Just wanna know so I can re-route it cause I have a feeling it would show up and some fine melanated individual would yank it from my fucking doorstep.
Shame its still only 800p. Would've liked a higher res so retroarch shaders dont look like shit.
Also no VRR is also disappointing.
with it's bottom of the barrel apu a higher res would mean most games would be 20-25fps
they made this change for poor fools who want an "upgrade"
>>with it's bottom of the barrel apu a higher res would mean most games would be 20-25fps
I know, but itd be nice if games ran at 800p by default and there was a high-res option you could toggle for things like emulators, indie games and older stuff
they have that already, any handheld that isn't a steamdeck
800p can't integer scale properly, it's straight up the worst resoultion they could have gone for
Did anyone here bought the Deck to play high demand AAA games? I sure am not, bought it exclusively to play indie stuff and hentai games
VNs, and stuff that wouldn't look much better on my TV. OLED is definitely nice but I'm not about to sell mine to switch.
why would you play that on a controller rather than a keyboard and mouse
the steam trackpad is perfect for hentai games that only require mouse and keyboard only
fuck no. so far i've fully played and beaten games that i didnt feel like playing at my PC which include:
sonic mania
sludge life
rune factory 4
flower
cozy grove
ni no kuni 2
pseudoregalia (GOTY)
heart & slash
dredge
brotato
fallout76 with my dad
fallout 3
huniecam studio
south park games
red faction guerilla
huniepop
persona 4
doom64
far lone sails
vampire survivors
I hope the 'ick on 'eck anon gets the new model and posts videos with it
what the fuck is Ganker told me steamdeck was a flop
two more weeks sis and the deck 2 also comes out!
SteamDeck exclusive GOTY next month
Those are some pretty big memories.
Might as well skip that now.
so is this considered the deck 2? or is it the deck pro?
Deck OLED. It's the new flagship, just like the Switch OLED is to Switch. You might get a few extra fps thanks to the better memory but Valve isn't promising anything
not deck 2
deck is now considered deck LCD
new deck is now considered deck OLED
deck OLED is the same except faster memory, smaller nm apu which means more power efficiency and they also gave it a bigger battery
Nigga you get 2 more fps.
It can't play next gen games such as Alan Wake 2. This isn't a Deck 2.
no one wants to play """"next gen"""" games when it's just code word for shit games that run poorly and excuse it by basically forcing you to use DLSS even with the highest end cards on the market
WHY
THE
FUCK
DOES
VALVE
HATE
AUSTRALIA??????
Valve hate the southern, I feel ya Aus bros
they make shoddy products with poor QC so any country with actual consumer rights is skipped
>no hall effect
>new internal designs means existing hall effect replacements won't work
Existing hall effect replacements are fucking broken with square gates, even the revision, they're garbage.
Just buy a backbone usb-c or mg-x pro and stream to your phone. If you're playing in public, emulation.
Okay I have to admit even just watching some videos that screen looks fucking mint.
are you watching on an LCD or OLED or CRT though
OLED monitor. To this day it still spooks me if itll get burn in.
Hasnt happened so far the past two years thankfully.
Time for steamies to get their biennial upgrade
i need 'ick on oled 'eck asap
Holy fuck I almost ordered my steam deck 2 weeks ago after selling my cs skins. Thank god I can get this instead.
i am legit fucking glad they announced this before black friday lmao
i was a couple weeks away from getting the older model
my nigga
> 1280 x 800 HDR OLED display with premium anti-glare etched glass
>LTE only has the anti-glare glass
didnt this turn out to be worse than the normal screen? is it gonna be better or worse on an oled?
I think it was slightly more washed out or something. I have the etched one and don't really notice.
Not "worse" but different. You can get the same impact on visuals by putting an anti-glare screen protector on a normal Deck. It'll probably be less impactful on an OLED screen than an LCD one.
It's gonna dim and smudge it, that's what anti-glare coating does to anything.
No. The difference between the limited edition and 1TB model is only the transparent case.
Im saying if I want the limited time edition one I can only have the anti glare, otherwsie I could buy the normal edition without it
and who the hell buys the 1tb version
fucking god damn i'm very very tempted to get that translucent one
So how's the battery life? At least 8 hours?
still depends entirely on what you're playing same as any other handheld to ever exist
>beefier battery (50W/h vs 40W/h)
>more power efficient APU (6nm vs 7nm)
>more power efficient screen (OLED vs LCD)
it's better
I wonder if buying it on launch will be as big a pain in the ass as the first time around?
>OLED
Literally fixed the only problem I had with this thing, fuck yeah time to consoooooom
>mfw when i bought a """""premium""""" LCD screen 2 months ago
I lost my Deck on a fucking airplane last month so I've been looking for a different UMPC to replace it; maybe I should just pick up an OLED Deck because each of the Windows-based competitors have some severe deficit at a higher price point.
Then again, with my luck, the moment my new Deck comes in the door I'll get a call from Delta's lost and found saying they have my old Deck. Maybe I should just pick up a cheap 64GB while they're discounted so I can just use it as an-home streaming box for one of my TVs if I end up with an extra.
That sucks man but ill be real if anyone finds a steam deck 95% chance they ain't returning it.
Can I hook up a graphics tablet and external screen to this thing and use it for simple art stuff?
are you ordering the limited edition version? its translucent
no, the red accents are ugly
Orange ruins it.
fugg i didn't even noticed that existed
answer is yes
No because I'm a yuropoor and we continue to be second class citizens when it comes to tech.
Yes, if I can get one. I like the aesthetic. Its kinda sorta translucent but not as much as some may expect, but has a design on it in certain points and red accents. If I was going to go for the 1TB OLED anyway, why not go for the LE for only a couple bucks more?
Sure you can. Its a full PC. You may just need some sort of port multiplier or dock to get enough ports for that. I suggest the official Deck Dock, but there are also 3rd party ones that range from meh to decent.
Do you think they'll have some kind of transfer program to easily upgrade from the previous deck? (similar to how you transfer everything over for an older smart phone)
yeah it's called pop your sd card out and move it to the new one
If you didn't do much custom stuff just login to steam and sync your cloud saves.
valve has their own process they recommend to clone the drive when you RMA it. Its a pain in the ass though so I just re-did everything which was also a huge pain in the ass.
They really need to make a streamlined method for upgrade.
thanks for beta testing LCDlets
literally never giving valve another penny if they don't offer some sort of trade-in program
it would be great PR unironically
thank valve
>HDR on Linux
WHAT IN THE ACTUAL FUCK
HOW
SINCE WHEN???
SteamOS 3.5
Been here for some time now. I hear it's better than windows HDR because it blends SDR and HDR well.
Heh heh heh
THANKS FOR BETA TESTING GEN1 BUYERS!
>:)
>buy OLED
>your eyes hurts now
LMAO
even most expensive western phones have don't give a fuck about PWM.
Steam deck's OLED will make you blind in two years for sure
>now have buyers remorse for my og model
everyone told you to wait
Remember
No trade-ins
🙂
>mfw got the base 64gb deck for 300 during steam summer sale
>spent about 250 bucks on upgrade to 2tb, got the killswitch case, 10000mah 65w battery strapped to back
If you already have a deck there's no need to give into buyers remorse and consoom the OLED.
it's honestly super impressive they managed to get a 1000 nit HDR OLED onto a handheld, but I am more interested in upgrading from RDNA2. Zen 4 and Zen 4c APUs look so powerful in other handhelds
Honestly if you already own the OG model it's not worth upgrading. Just wait for Steam Deck 2.
t-thanks valve...
>naggerblaster9000
Did reservations open and close or are they opening in day of release
The latter
Thanks you
How long till AMD releases a truly next gen APU? I dont care much about deck 1.5 upgrades outside the screen, I want the power to emulate ps3 games.
I use kodi to watch shit on my deck. Anything better?
your
fucking
phone
Decks
Have
Docks
Retard
so
do '
phones
retard
Kodi is one of the best options because it has a fuckload of addons (including those conducive to piracy), and is open source. Works quite well with Deck w/ Dock.
I dare say that Valve should bundle it into both Gamescope and the Desktop versions of SteamOS (or at least let it be an easy install suggestion), with some nice SteamOS skins. For years I said that Nintendo should have done the same with the Switch - a Kodi version customized with a Nintendo skin would have been perfect, but no they got stupid just when they got hardware capable of doing what the Wii/WiiU/3DS had promise for app support.
fucking BASED kodi users.
Diggz Xenon Nexus build allows you to pirate and scrape nearly any show and it's very easy to install on Deck. runs flawlessly too compared to an amazon fire tv stick or roku lol
i heard it didn't interact very well with gaming mode? it would be a great dockable htpc if you host a NAS.
I would have said 2 years before this refresh, now I think its 3 years away.
Deck is still cheaper and more battery efficient than most of the competitors on the market right now, it only really has to worry about Switch 2
What's there to worry about really? Valve isn't trying to compete with Nintendo, and either way the Deck can play Switch games, and now the new one will do it even better
while all the steam deck users are in one place:
i turned on perf overlay on Steam Home and noticed my deck was slurping up 8 to 10 watts while idle. I have Decky Loader and CSS Loader. 50% brightness. it's driving me insane
>OLED
It's ruined. Enjoy your burn in, consoomers.
Welp, I'm either selling mine to get the OLED or simply getting the OLED anyway this summer
I hope the display on the OLED will be FreeSync/VRR capable too. If its just a matter of getting it to work on Gamescope or whatever that's one thing, they can sort it out in time, but the hardware should have that kind of support.
>2 1tb SD cards
>1 512gb SD card for emulation roms
prob my favorite part of the deck is being able to hotswap SD cards like they're traditional game carts
>prob my favorite part of the deck is being able to hotswap SD cards like they're traditional game carts
Absolutely kino. That feeling is the best
Wait hold up, if I want the see-through console, I have to get the shitty anti glare screen?
700 dollars for an RDNA2 APU is kinda nutty
OLED screen, and a die shrink but yeah
>Same performance
>+300€
Lol doa
Huh?
It's around 120€ extra for me between 512GB LCD and 512GB OLED.
>Inb4 just get 64GB lol
Retarded and a europoor, I pity your existence
>1tb is actually pretty damn well priced
>no massive bezel anymore
I feel like there is a monkey paw somewhere in here especially with cooling issues of the first one.
They used a better node for the APU and the fan got bigger. Sounds like cooling actually got better too.
It's still slow for a PC and not all games run bug free.
FUCK YES I LOVE PAYING 700 DOLLARS TO PLAY CYBERPUNK AT 360P 40FPS AND BALDURS GATE 3 AT 24!
but i get to give money to american company for asian parts instead of just buying an asian device with better everything
for 250% of the price and having to use windows*
price tags are for poor people
your inability to install a different os is a skill issue
shameful
If anything it be the best portable emulator device around for the price, especially if you just run it through Launchbox or something. Never intended to play Cybersnooze or Baulders anyways
>cope talk
lol
Sorry anon I know its limitations for the price and dont drink glue thinking its a do everything machine. I did the homework assignment
base steam deck is way better value if ur just using it for emulating lol
> Ganker already praising the [NEW SYSTEM] (deck oled) when it isn't in their hands yet
classic
Also a lot of anons shitting on it, despite not using it or even planning to get it.
What compels such people?
console war addiction
people who want to keep up with the jones as well as people who have buyers remorse. both sides
it's literally the same hardware but with revisions to the things it originally received criticism for, so why wouldn't they?
From a Valve engineer:
https://twitter.com/lawrenceyang/status/1722679483944284249
>You won't be able to swap displays between LCD and OLED models - the motherboards are incompatible and we have overhauled the internals significantly.
>We will be working with iFixit again to provide replacement parts and guides for Steam Deck OLED though.
expected that, hopefully though the new parts like mobo or stick modules are compatible
WHY IS MY STEAM DECK DRAWING 9 WATTS AT THE HOME SCREEN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>no VRR
All I've heard is the panel supports native 60/80/90hz display, so that'll suck for games you can't get running perfectly stable at 30/40/45fps.
