steam japanese retardation

Sean "hang the yellow man" Vanaman has now banned an established franchise (with an uncensored switch port) from steam. When will Valve fire this moron?

Steam's QA process puts weeb games and VNs under extra scrutiny, and Valve has an anal retentive definition of "exploiting children" which would've likely required removing anything sexual at all from the game, despite the sexual content being mild fanservice stuff on par with many other games already available on Steam.

Sexualizing kids in their late teens who already have sex in real life is fine and does not offend anyone except puritan soccer moms. If you get the vapors from watching CW shows then this game would offend you, yes, but so would leaving your house.
Lumping everyone under 18 together as innocent, sacred and in need of protection is stupid and only popular because of brain-damaged SJWs on Twitter in constant need of things to be offended by and demand systemic change over.

I have never seen any proof that "hurr there's some moderator at valve with an agenda" is true.
It seems they want to be consistent, and all these games they "unfairly" banned recently usually fall under "character implied or stated to be underage is sexualized in any form", and coincidentally Japan subconsciously likes doing this. This may be it?
But why so strict? They're likely being prudent after the situations with payment processors vs PornHub, Patreon, OnlyFans and others.

        Anonymous

        >Steam
        >consistent
        Pick one.
If Steam was consistent, Persona 5 should be banned.
Furthermore, if Steam is doing that because of legal reasons, then there's no reason why they keep old games on the store despite the fact that they technically break these ridiculously strict rules.

          Anonymous

The Persona series is an excellent example. I read the original fanTL of Chaos;Head years ago and in terms of sexual content with underage characters it's on par with the Persona series.
There was nothing explicit at all in the original and the censorship in this version is supposedly heavy, so I doubt there's any rational reason why it's banned. Someone at Steam is just being a huge homosexual.

If Persona 6 ever comes out, I hope Valve will ban it. Maybe that’ll finally teach weebs a lesson.

        >want to be consistent
If they wanted to be consistent it'd make more sense it they didn't approve porn games like this just a few months ago. Even though all the H-scenes are removed, the game's still focused on sexualizing an underage schoolgirl with revealing outfits getting raped by everything that moves

          >I swear people only like it for the edgyness.
The main appeal is the rather genuine and authentic, depressed NEET mega-otaku perspective. And all the flaws, anxiety, and insanity that comes with it.
Fused with a crazy narrative for an adventure. But it's also a narrative that unfolds itself little by little as you slowly uncover more of it, giving readers ample opportunity too always guess the next step of the narrative. Which is a structure that's somewhat engaging.

This combination is overall very well received. Hence why it's rather beloved in both the domestic Japanese and foreign English markets.
But if you're a normalgay who can't relate to the protagonist on any level you might hate it regardless. I hope that's not you.

The Switch port is not "uncensored" it's the game censored version that exists on other platforms. The only places where it's uncensored are PC, Xbox 360, and Vita. Meaning that Valve won't even put up the censored version which is really bad.

Isn't it the unedited version of Noah? Or are you implying that Noah is in itself censored?
Is that even a fair claim to make when Noah has original content? It wasn't conceptualized as a lesser C;H.

Or am I missing something here?

        Anonymous

The article explains it very well.
        >Subsequent Japanese ports of Chaos;Head Noah for the PS3, PSP, Android, and iOS were heavily edited to remove some of the more extreme images and descriptions of violence. In turn, those ports received a lower CERO D rating (roughly equivalent to the ESRB's "M for Mature" rating) in Japan. A source in the visual novel translation community (who asked to remain anonymous) confirmed that both the Switch and proposed Steam English-language versions of the game were based on this edited-down script.
        >A Japanese Chaos;Head port for the Nintendo Switch, released earlier this year, received the higher CERO Z rating (and "crime" content icon) despite using the edited version of the game that previously received a CERO D rating.

The 360 and Vita versions of Noah were not censored. The PS3, PSP, Mobile versions are and you can add the Switch version to that list.

it makes one segment of the game mostly nonsensical by cutting out the most important part in it and it heavily censors the climax of one of the routes. Ending B and the climax of Kozue's route suffer the most from this.

so this and plus toned down violence and sexy stuff, probably

Look, the line has to be drawn somewhere. Even Ganker agrees on that. The only question is where.

Porn games with non-consensual sex are obviously not okay. But what about dubious consent? BDSM with roleplaying? What if the characters are drunk? Or if someone's raped for dramatic purposes? Where is the line drawn?

I don't think anyone at Valve wants to censor games. But they have a clear policy (no underage sexuality), and drawing that line isn't always easy.

What they don't want to show you:

            >Could making pornography legal lead to lower rates of sex crimes? A new study by Milton Diamond, from the University of Hawaii, and colleagues, addresses this controversial question.

Results from the Czech Republic showed, as seen everywhere else studied (Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Sweden, USA), that rape and other sex crimes have not increased following the legalization and wide availability of pornography. In addition, the study found that the incidence of child sex abuse has fallen since 1989, when child pornography became readily accessible -- a phenomenon also seen in Denmark and Japan.

The findings support the theory that potential sexual offenders use child pornography as a substitute for sex crimes against children. While the authors do not approve of the use of real children in the production or distribution of child pornography, they say that artificially produced materials might serve a purpose.

Czech Republic as it transitioned from having a strict ban on sexually explicit materials to a situation where the material was decriminalized. Pornography was strictly prohibited between 1948 and 1989. The ban was lifted with the country's transition to democracy and, by 1990, Even the possession of child pornography was not a criminal offense.

Most significantly, they found that the number of reported cases of child sex abuse dropped markedly immediately after the ban on sexually explicit materials was lifted in 1989. In both Denmark and Japan, the situation is similar: Child sex abuse was much lower than it was when availability of child pornography was restricted.

See mountains of evidence that has come out via scientific studies that says videogames don't cause people to go on murderous rampages

By that same logic, rape games aren't going to make someone a rapist.

Maybe....Just maybe, those kinds of outlets prevent someone from murdering, or from raping people. Who are these nutjobs who play the game and go "bluhhhh I gotta have the real thing bro"?

That's because the video games that do normalize violence serve the interests of the state. First person shooters have been the single greatest military recruitment tool of the last three decades. The fixation on shit like GTA supposedly causing mass murderers was always misdirection to distract from call of duty producing zogbots.
While that gay is wrong for wanting to ban stuff, it's still dumb to pretend that the media one consumes doesn't influence what they think and do. But the actual way to deal with that is a strong, healthy society that produces enough media with messages you want people to see that people are resistant to the messages you're not so fond of. Relying on censors will always be moronic as what they deem acceptable will always shift so quickly and erracticly as to elicit a reaction against it, which is precisely what we see today.

This is a non-sequitur. By this logic, paying people's tuition doesn't incentivize enlistment, either. Or that bread has no nutritional value because someone subsisting on it alone will eventually die.

Why? It's literally consensual now, you're acting like a women (or man) can't get off of being beaten.

That's just regular murder. If GTA had sexual violence, it would not be allowed on consoles.

Abso-fricking-lutely. That game has a scene where an underage girl gets gangraped.

Berserk doesn't portray rape in a titillating way, so no.

          >They don't say they are this old, but their characters look around that age.
There is a character in the first one, in your party, that you frick, that looks like she's the same age or younger.
There is no consistency. You will not find any from them.

Evenicle 1 has 2-3 characters like that and I would even add one more, but she states her age is above 30. Have you even played it or are you repeating someone else's story?

I've only played it up to like chapter 3. You see the girl you get in your party in the title splash.
But anyway, having more young girls/"e-girls" is even better, it shows that inconsistency even more.

You are. Because the Steam build was censored and had that scene completely cut from the game and it got banned anyway.

Also. Funnily enough. Evenicle 1 has a e-girl rape her own father in delight only to gorily eat him up after the climax.
e-girl. Incest. Rape. Gore. All in one package. But it's Evenicle 2 that gets banned. Kind of ironic. Evenicle 2 is comparably tame.

Yeah. C;H has some cool stuff going early on about questioning reality, shared delusions shaping society, but didn't deliver on it with the ending. The perfunctory villain shows up for the hero to kill so the story to conclude. I'm curious about the girls' routes add but I don't expect it to fix anything.
Despite not being nearly as good as a thriller, imo Chaos;Child builds on all the themes much more successfully and ends up being a more interesting story.

        Anonymous

I feel like focusing on the action is missing the shot. It's more pivotal in regards to Takumi finally having a reason to fight even as he was wrestling with his own existence and a core aspect to getting the true ending is in him achieving self-actualization after all the bombastic action. It's a story about this pathetic NEET finding a reason to live and exist just like how Steins;Gate's climax around Okabe and his bonds leading to a determination that was able to transcend timelines.

          Anonymous

Yeah it's not a complete disaster. I just think that Takumi's development flipped like a switch when he got his sword. I liked how Chaos;Child handled it better, both the character flaws and how the MC is forced to introspection. The C;C villains are also bound much closer to the story's central themes, making the climax more satisfying.

            Anonymous

the flipping of the switch make sense in my head because it was after the talk with Shogun during the third melt, the circumstances and the talk forced him to make a choice and act, and he didnt even do it for others he did it mostly for himself

Being able to buy the game is irrelevant, moron. The point is that, if VNs keep getting banned by Steam, it will become unprofitable to localize them and we will thus get fewer VNs in English.

Organize a campaign to mass report on Steam popular games like Steins;Gate or Persona 5 for "exploiting minors". This will make normalgays react and force Valve to react.

This implies that it would be aimless but it would be the opposite of that.
Steam could ban like 30+ high profile VNs and it would only see a fraction of the media coverage that Persona 5 would get.
Persona 5 alone could very reasonably actually get Valve to revise their policies and get old banned games back.

Imagine spending thousands of dollars to license Chaos;Head from 5pb/MAGES, a high profile and notoriously expensive series for localization, only to get shat on by a fricking rogue employee who most likely routinely allows furry porn on the store
If this doesn't make Valve course correct I don't think anything will

I've not been following the debate, but I love underage erotica as long as it is in virtual form (GalGun, GunGun Pixies etc).

What is this game and will the Switch version release in the west uncensored?

The switch version is censored. Which just goes to show how unreasonable this decision by steam is considering it was almost certainly the censored version that they said was no good.

Oh really? Did CERO not accept the content? What did they remove exactly?

I think they removed one of the ending which contain some guro scenes. The rest are typical zoom in and lightshow.

Kozu-pii's route was a fricking massacre. Due to how violent that route was, the game got a Z rating. Every release other than the original Noah release on 360 and the Vita version were changed to lower the age rating.

Stop lying, snoy. The developer said they're not releasing it on Steam due toi censorship ruining the game. At the same time, they told fans the Switch version will release as normal on October 7th.

          >not releasing it on Steam due toi censorship ruining the game
Right. As in, steam was demanding censorship above and beyond what the developer/publisher was already willing to acquiesce to for the switch release.

The original version from 2008 is uncensored, all the versions released today are censored due to CERO having updated their policies since 2008.

There, I hope there are no misunderstandings now.

Hey, did you know that Farming Simulator is a pretty well sold game, yet we don't have more farmers in real life? The genre of farming life sims is quite large yet most people who play them don't even have a garden or some herb pots.
I thought people did the games they played in real life?

There was a guy who went and bought a farm because of stardew valley. And actually just in general the whole "homesteading" thing is quite popular now. How much of that is attributable to media focused on positive portrayals of farming and rural living is obviously hard to say, especially since there has been some degree of idealization of the pastoral since antiquity. But what you're arguing is essentially that even if that was reversed and farming was instead regularly portrayed as a bad thing for bad people, that it would have no effect in reducing people's enthusiasm for living a rural lifestyle. That's a pretty bold claim.

        >that it would have no effect in reducing people's enthusiasm for living a rural lifestyle
Consider how much stuff shows the horrors and downside of city living. Then consider that more and more people are still moving to cities.

          >people are still moving to cities
Because they have no choice, or at least feel as though they don't. No amount of cultural influence is ever going to get you a job. That's never been the argument. If people are starving, they're going to steal food regardless of what their cultural has to say about that. What people argue about is the degree of influence a culture, and particularly its media, has on people's choices. And I can tell you from a lifetime of seeing people move here to get away from cities as soon as they have the means that, either cities are actually as bad as media portrays them to be or the media is working in convincing people they are.

I hope the people moving away from cities aren't the same people who cause cities to be shitty in the first place.

    is the switch version censored?

      Anonymous

yes, it's based on the less violent D-rated version released on PS3/PSP/mobile, despite being rated Z like the uncut 360 and vita versions were.
furthermore, spike chunsoft announced the localized version also removes seira's "swimsuit" costume.
spike chunsoft's line in the sand was, valve wanted them to censor the game even MORE if they were to release it on steam - this is what they refused to do and what the news is about.

This is apparently the most English-language publicity Chaos;Head has ever gotten, because articles about Steam rejecting it get pushed to the top of any search you try to do about the game at all.
It's good that the incident is getting publicity, but it's going to make talking about the game annoying for a long time.
