    Because practically all of Steam's UI runs in Chromium. There used to be a launch option to completely disable it but it was removed because at this point it would just spawn a window with the top bar and nothing else.
    Every other launcher out there is the same btw.

    From a certain version of chromium, it treats multiple browser tabs as different processes. For example having 21 tabs of chromium open will create 21 chromium instances running on your computer.
