It's an outdated console from 2013 that's 11 years old. The PS4 and Xbox One CPU were abhorrent AMD tablet processors, they're on 5400RPM HardDrives at a time everyone who is serious about games should have an SSD. I can play Sekiro at 60FPS 4K with seconds long loads screen while you wait a minute per death or fast travel. You're insane to think PS4 is viable at this point. You're just upset you couldn't sell the PS4 while it had value, my PS5 with the disc drive cost me 350 dollars after selling a PS4 that I bought for 200 dollars.

I side graded my PS4 with a PS4 slim basically for free. Quite happy with the more quiet fan.

this, a pro doesn't really make that big of a difference
also I assume you could even slap an ssd into a slim if the sata port is the same as on the pro, slim is literally the best option today

        Anonymous

        >also I assume you could even slap an ssd into a slim if the sata port is the same as on the pro
I do have an SSD in mine, since they're so cheap these days, and it's helped in some games, but they do actually have a somewhat different I/O. The PS4 and slim support SATA2, which maxes out around 300MB/s. The PS4 Pro supports SATA3 which maxes out at 600MB/s. From what I've seen with tests, this doesn't make a difference in almost any game.
        >slim is literally the best option today
If you didn't play much of the 7th gen or you're getting it for your kid, absolutely agreed.
        >cheap (less than $100)

Buddy of mine has a PS5. I can confirm, they don't look that much better on a 4k TV either. You don't sit that close to it. You're not gonna see a meaningful difference from there.

Only morons are upset people don't upgrade from One/PS4. First we already know 99% of "nextgen" games didn't got better. Second we know their performance is ass. When a game comes out on PS4/XBO I know it is very likely it will run with a decent framerate and resolution on my Series X. No, not Elden Ring lol.
I played Tales of Arise not long ago and FRICKING FINALLY a sharp 4K60 game instead of the upscaled mess most next gen only games are.
If you are a PS4/XBO/Switch/Deck user I tip my hat to you as you force the lazy devs to optimize and target lower than my machine as a baseline.

That guys a moron, but at least get your facts straight. Sekiro is a super easy game to run. It's running at 1800p native with a mix of low to high settings and "unlocked fps" maxing at 60fps. The PS5 can run it at 60fps locked easily at those settings.

the ps4 does not need internet, not even once wtf are you talking about, you can even update the ps4 OS with a usb stick IF you want but ofc you don't have to

it sends out wireless signals on startup and probably during other times as well. i want to have wired internet but with disabled wifi and bleutooth, u cant do that. although ive heard they let u disable bluetooth now. but it will still transmit wifi signals regularly even if u use ethernet, only way to shut it off is to disable internet all together

You can literally go to your PS4 and remove the wifi antenna if you really want to. Also, if you don't have it connected to your router, it can't send out wifi signals. Do you think they're magically connected to your router without a password or something?

            Anonymous

The thread is full of 3rd worldies on 11 year old outdated console tech and they think consoles/phones can connect to WiFi without a password being asked and Blutooth without sync buttons being pressed, lol. The PS4 is old that you'd be using Windows 98 in 2008, that's how ancient PS4 is and how slow the games load as well.

the wifi card is soldered, u cant remove it. it sends out wireless signals no matter how you set up the console. no it wont connect to the router unless u set it up but it still broadcasts wifi signals. how do u think wireless devices find each other? theyre constantly broadcasting signals, but they dont connect unless u set up a connection

The PS5 and Xbox Series X are the normal console upgrade cycle, the PS4 and Xbox One were the shititest and weakest consoles of the entire console history. Playing le tripple a games on the go, and having acess to all exclusives???? Maybe, it is a better sell towards steam users I guess

Though the battery life is ass and it has more bugs and shitty issues than any other console has in its entire lifetime.
When I bought it it crashed on me twice, right before I sold it it was bugging out on me. I've had it for 1 and a half years. It wasn't really fun to use. And there were some issues like spiderman miles morales not opening properly, I had to try and help my borther with that one as it jsut came out as a black screen.

The performance also isn't that great. Even on some inde games like scarf.

Honestly the whole pc handheld gaming experience isn't good.Unless you are totally fine with the jank, tdp slider shit shader cache whatever and can deal with all of that but honestly I'm not touching anything from valve ever again or any other pc handheld.

I'm probably just gonna stick with nintendo, xbox or playstation when it comes down to it.

Honestly I wish it wasn't so bad but it constantly reminded me whenever I played on it. Sometimes video didn't load in game due to le proton stuff despite the game being verified. Launcher shit stopping me from playing games like the division. Honestly it is just like a lot of bullshit that you just have to ingnore but it just gets to the point where it is too much. I just gave up on it considering it wasn't fun to use and babysit amd the dude was shitting a bit ever so often to the point where I couldn't take it anymore.
The software is still unpolished after 1 and a half years since I had it in 2023 and the user experincw isn't good. The performance and other stuff just adds up ontop of it.

I wish it was better but even as a hand me down it was worthless.

This is a fair assessment. If you don't like tinkering, the Deck isn't for you, though I would say that the things you described are problems with video games these days that are just exacerbated on the steam deck. No game should have a fricking launcher and there are some indie games that have no business taxing hardware as hard as they do compared to how the game looks

I've had mine for about a year and the only glitch I've had is bluetooth controllers being a fricking nightmare while docked. My controller will connect but the buttons won't work. I fix it by forgetting the controller and pairing it again. The last three times I docked it, it did the same fricking thing. Bluetooth on my linux desktop works flawlessly, so I don't know what the frick valve did. Other than that I've had FMV's not play and instead that old color test from crt tvs with the bars of colors shows up. It happened in Ys 1 when a cutscene was supposed to play and in Dragon's Dogma on my desktop after some kind of update. Both instances are fixed by using proton-ge

The ROG Ally priced at $400 is very compelling if you don't want to deal with linux. It's a shame, because I've been using linux on my desktop for about two years and every game I've played but one worked flawlessly besides the two that I mentioned. Recently I tried to get the GOG version of Resident Evil 1 running but I couldn't get it working. There's probably a way but I'm not in any hurry

I wish the deck was better because I wanted it to be good so badly
but I had the same problems you did
            random crashes
games that were supposed to work "flawlessly" would break because of random fricking dependencies and just linux frickery
I bought a 14in laptop and am much happier
easier to play my VNs now too because I don't have to figure out how to frick around when playing VNs older than 2 years that inevitably don't play nice with linux

PC gaming on the go, especially on long travels or anywhere in your house. I actually use my phone with a backbone for the last use case, using steam link. Sometimes it's just comfier to be able to play somewhere other than your PC chair. Input lag is noticeable but okay for most games.
