Sonic.exe was literally never good and the fact that it was some gay Newgrounds game mod that ruined it for you rather than the fact that the author is a gay furry who got trying to get an underage boy to ERP and sending porn he drew to an underage girl with every weird fetish under the sun including scat, guru, and macrophilia raises some serious questions about you.

      >Sonic.exe was created by a gay furry weeaboo with a fricking moronic Gary Stu Sonic OCDonutsteele who had a long list of his fetishes on Furaffinity that included shit like scat, ryona, vore, and anal vore and he tried to groom a 14 year old boy and coax him into doing some creepy macrophilia cybersex? That's perfectly normal and I love the story
      >Some gays in a rhythm game community declared Sonic.exe non binary? THIS IS AN OUTRAGE I AM DISGUSTED BY SONIC.EXE NOW
There's also the fact that the original Sonic.exe was absolutely fricking moronic, the official sequel was even more fricking moronic, and the official remake which was supposed to be his magnum opus managed to be worse than any other story JC the Hyena shat out on the internet.

why can't these autistic spergs understand that fear of the unknown is always going to be more intriguing than whatever they can invent? it's obviously spookier if it's just a bizarre unexplained nes hack and the rest is left to imagination rather than "ooo and then his dead girlfriend's ghost haunted the nes cartridge ooooo". frick off. it doesn't have to be well written, it just has to be compelling.

Authors hopelessly overplaying their hand and sinking their own story on corny shit is basically tradition at this point. Is it even a creepypasta if it doesn't deflate its own tension by not quitting while ahead?
It's like with cheap slashers, the first movie is really good so the next ones gotta delve into the mythos of the villain and make it lame.

tbh what makes the Godzilla creepypasta good luckily has nothing to do with being scary anyway. It's actually a story about a demon redesigning a NES game to be the most kino Godzilla game ever made.

The Interface shit was decent if very boomerish in its sensibilities if you understand what I mean.

If anything the homosexual should have gotten in contact with somebody to make the godzilla game an actual file. Even if it was janky as shit you'd barely notice and even attribute it to intentionally setting the mood of the game. If he had done such a thing but without the homosexual ending and instead you just died to Big Red Gum then he'd have been able to milk people for it until the end of time. Today it would be pretty easy but of course at the time it was originally conceived he probably thought about it and dismissed it as way too difficult.

      Exactly this.
One time I was looking for the lalala website with the dancing dinosaurs, and I came across a website with literally just a man offering you a handshake. Then it downloaded a .rar file named Romeo and Juliet.

the newmaker connection was made way too quickly and whenever the creator of the series revealed themselves they said they regretted making an allegory to real world events so they just hamfisted the story with a bunch of vague bullshit that only loosely connects to the original idea

              Anonymous

Did the creator actually admit to it? I always felt like he 100% steered the whole arg in a different direction because people found out about Candace Newmaker too soon.

                >The references, Domenico said, were only meant to tie into the themes of rebirth that are seen throughout the series. Looking back, he says he believes it wasn’t appropriate to reference a real-life tragedy in a work like Petscop.
                >“A decision like that, to reference a tragedy involving real people, should have a lot of weight to it. It should have been something I treated very carefully,” Domenico said. “I did not treat it carefully enough. But also, I feel that this series was just not the place for that kind of thing.”
                >When he came to this realization, he made a few changes to how the series would play out.
                >“The changes were subtle, because I was never gonna go much deeper with the references,” Domenico said. “Mainly, I avoided using the name Newmaker again. I didn’t want to emphasize it any more than I already had.”

What a gay, you can reference or even try to show the events of a tragedy in a respectful way while also using it to make the story better, a good example of this would be the song "Wysteria", it literally has voiceclips at the end from Albert Fish talking about how much he enjoyed killing and eating a little girl and it was fricking god tier

That fat bastard grrm had the right idea, just keep writing as you intended. • 10 months ago
                Anonymous

The answer is to not have your series hinge on a big unpredictable twist. When you lift the curtains up and go
                >The bad guy didn't kill his father, he IS his father
It's either going to land well and have the intended effect, or people are going to say
                >Why is there so much emphasis being put on this, it was obvious
                or
                >What, that came out of nowhere, they pulled this out of their ass
It's not worth the risk of the latter two, especially in modern day story telling where you have to obsess over MUH LORE with cryptic shit everywhere like you're the zodiac killer. Remember that your story is going to exist for eternity and will eventually be judged as it is consumed from start to finish rather than as you drip feed reveals. Just write a story that is good from start to finish, especially if people are guessing the reveals during the months or years between installments where they have plenty of time to analyse everything when your story is eventually going to be readable/watchable in a matter of days or weeks.

Thanks for the advice. I don't think the story's hinged on these twists as something big, I'm just worried about how people would dislike a story that they predicted months before during its development, but I guess that IS just the fandom culture of the moment, not the one that will exist for when the full story's out there.

let them do it, figuring out the twist is one of the most engaging things for readers. Stick to your guns, changing the twist is the worst thing you can do and i speak from experience.
Also, if the twist works learning the details can still be interesting once you get there. You may figure out Vader is Luke's father but the context surrounding it can still make it interesting.
A good example is bokurano for me. You can easily figure out the twist very early, but the additional details and how the characters react make it golden

                >be alex hirsch

Most of this list is objectively bad, not a creepypasta and very few have anything to do with Ganker. Example: 1999 is not only dogshit but the guy writing it got caught plagarizing an alantutorials video and then vanished for like 7 months then hastily wrote a shitty ending for his shitty story. A lot of them like Borrasca, Feed the Pig, Tales from the gas station, the pancake family, etc are just extremely popular /r/nosleep stories written by known authors. Feed the Pig was literally just an advertisement for the author's The Black Farm book.

OP gave him a name, so the creator already had an 'in'. Might have had a cache of users who visited his map to pull names from.
Then he fricked up on a detail and fled.
Or he was just another member of the group that was fricking around because he was a dick.

It’s so well-done because of how much it leaves to your imagination, whatever you fill in the blanks with is so much scarier than being told point blank

What I interpreted it as was that the mapmaker was a genuine serial killer who implanted some sort of backdoor into the map (the narrator specifically mentions viruses like the “remote disk drive opening” one earlier in the story, and that Sven was particularly vulnerable) that allowed him to dox and kill h0nk and then impersonate him (the fake “h0nk” that the narrator talks to at the end uses the same phrasing about “leadership” that the corpse entity instructed the real one to use while they were playing the map), the map appeared to be specifically designed by a psychopath who enjoys playing mind games and setting people against each other and the reason the real h0nk freaked out before shutting down the server and scrubbing his internet presence is that he realized that the map was actually opening them up to being targeted by this person; the impersonator at the end requests access to the narrator’s IRL personal information/social media and seems extremely eager to gather together the old group to play the map again, likely his way of hunting for new victims

Alternatively, if you want to go with the supernatural angle, the map put them in contact with an actual demon and h0nk was bodysnatched by kind of cyber-skinwalker

    >It all started 53 years ago, back when I was a fully grown little boy...

    >One day, while I was jumping through the street, I happened upon a large vehicle, which clobbered me violently into a nearby window.

    >After getting my bearings, I looked up to see a young man with a Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition in his hands. I had always dreamed of owning a Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition, but my family could barely even afford Gold...

    >He looked up at me with those big, vibrating eyes. His two lower teeth quivered in confusion. "Muh, mahma," he said softly.

    >This was my chance! I ran at him screaming and stomping my feet, scrambling his brain in sheer confusion. I shoved him as hard as I could and grabbed his Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition, and I ran out the door. I leaped back down the street towards my home. I pulled open the door by its big, smelly handle and I let myself in quietly. I snuck past my many parents and shut myself into my room.

    >I had made it. Finally, a Gameboy Advance SP to call my own. I will have to keep it hidden from my family. I shouldn't ever allow them to know...

I took the Gameboy SP in my small, beautiful hands, and proceeded to slide the switch to "ON" mode. I will never forget that wonderful sound it made the first time I turned it on. And that wonderful Nintendo logo splashed my screen in sheer delight. I blew out my candle, and I pulled my curtain shut tight. I wanted absolutely nothing to get in the way of my first Gameboy Advanced SP Blue Edition experience.

      >Suddenly, a small man appeared on-screen. Shortly after, the word "Mario" started flashing behind him. I assume this man is the man known as "Mario". I had seen adverts showing him on television. The title of the screen slowly lowered itself in from the top of the screen.

      >"Super Mario... and the legend of the Stolen Gameboy Advanced SP, Blue Edition"?!

      >My hart sank... as I noticed a dead pixel in the lower left region of the screen.

      >"Beggars can't be choosers," I thought to myself, however, and I pressed the start button with my feenge.

      >A vast landscape with clouds, bushes, and bricks appeared before my very eye. And there he was. The familiar "Mario" man I had grown to enjoy.

      >I pushed left on the left bootton. Mario himself dashed to the left. Dust between his silly brown shoes filled the air.

      >Amazed by his speed, I quickly pushed right to test his turning abilities. I was not disappointed, as Mario changed direction in a matter of seconds. I learned the other button functions as I played...

      >'B' allowed Mario to dash at high speeds, similar to my own. 'A' allowed him to leap so high in the sky that I screamed in fear that, perhaps, maybe he wouldn't come back down... Yet he always did, which engaged me in the game-world even further. I quickly grasped the concepts of jumping large gaps, avoiding enemies, and climbing a big, big flagpole at the end of each level.

      >I got to the fourth level without much problems. I looked into a nearby mirror and smiled at myself with one eyebrow raised and I said loudly, "Does this game think I am not good? I can handle anything it throws my way! Ahhh Hahaaaaa! Auuhhh..."

      >Suddenly, the screen turned black... And I don't just mean black, I mean so black... The screen looked like a big, deep, deep hole.

      >I said out loud, "Is this a hole I see before me?" and it echoed, like a hole...

        >I wiped a large chunk of sweat from my flopping brow. "That was weird," I thought in a big bubble next to my head.

        >The level loaded, but this time it took a lot longer. Mario stood in place so I pushed right and he began running. I noticed the graphics were getting all jumbly. Also, the music was becoming less like the Mario theme, DA DA DAH DUH DA DAH DUH!, and more garbled, like BRRPP BRPP BRUPP BRR BRUM BRADDAH!!!

        >I was nearing the first gap of the stage to jump over. As I drew closer, I readied my sweating, pink thumb over the 'A' button. The gap was here! I pushed the button, but Mario didn't jump... He just screamed.

        >"HO!"

        >I pushed left as far as I could and he grounded to a halt, right at the edge of the gap. I pushed 'A' frantically and repeatedly to try and make him jump, but he just screamed and screamed.

        >"HA HO!"

        >The camera zoomed in on my face as I pummel that 'A' button, trying to make Mario fill that air above his body, but all that filled the air were my friend Mario's screams of fear.

        >I said, "No more!"

        >I pulled the cartridge from the Gameboy Advance SP and I threw it out my window. It landed in some mud outside and I laughed and I closed my window.

        >I turned around... And I saw that the cart was back in my Gameboy... Mud oozed from it's cart slot.

        >I gasped and I said to myself, "Nooo... It cannot be!"

        >The Gameboy turned itself back on. Mario's face appeared with hyperrealistic skin pores and bloody chapped lips.

        >He spoke softly, "You stole me from my human... Now I, Mario of Nintendo of America Incorporated, curse you forever!"

          >I decided the only way to rid myself from this curse was to beat the game. I ran up to the first gap of the level. I pushed 'A' and Mario just screamed again.

          >"HO!"

          >I fell into the hole and Mario lost a life. This is when I noticed my skin began to rot and turn slightly green.

          >"What on Earth is happening, Mario?" I asked Mario.

          >"Every life you lose, I will make you rot! Haah haah huah!"

          >I asked, "How can I beat the game with only screams? I cannot jump gaps by screaming!"

          >"Frick you..." Mario said quietly.

          >I screamed.

          >"H O A H !"

          >I decided NOT to beat the game in fear of me rotting! I decided that I was going to do the right thing.

          >I ran out of my room pushing my feeble mother out of my way in the hallway. I ran down the street to the boy's house. Thunder bellowed and rain pitter-pattered on my crying face.

          >Finally, I reached the house. I leaped up to the boy's window and let myself in. The room was dark.

          >"Boy?!" I cried out. "Boy, are you there?"

          >I turned on the light switch. As the room lit up, I saw many people dressed in black... They all cried softly.

          >"Who the flip are you people," I asked with tears running down my chinny-chin-chin.

          >"We are this boy's family," a woman replied, "I was his mother..."

          >She pointed into the center of the room where a small, white coffin was suspended over a hole.

          >My heart sank.

            >"Is your boy inside that box?" I asked with an eyebrow raised and a finger on my chin.

            >"Yes, a crazed person broke into our home, ravaged our son and stole his childhood by killing him."

            >Everything went slow. I dropped to my knees. I held the Gameboy tightly in my clenched fist. "Could this be MY fault?" I asked myself politely.

            >His mother walked over to me with a big, fat tear in her eye. She told me, "it really means a lot that a stranger would let himself into our home to pay respects to a boy he didn't know. I'm sure you two would've gotten along great."

            >She then pointed to the priest and said, "Please lower our son into the Earth NOW."

            >The priest did just that. He pulled on a lever with a shiny red ball on it. The coffin started going down!

            >I shoved the mother from my and I sprinted toward the coffin. I jumped on that coffin and the ropes snapped. I began falling into the Earth with the child inside. I heard the screams from his family echoing above.

            >I pried open the coffin as we fell and I shoved the gameboy into his tiny, cold mouth. "Free me of this curse, child!" I screamed at the top of my... head.

            >I noticed that we weren't hitting the bottom, and that the darkness in this hole reminded me of the dark I saw in the Gameboy. Could this be what I saw before?

            >From the darkness, a floating, black and white head of Mario appeared.

            >He said to me, "In this hole, you shall fall with the dead body of a child! Huaaah hah..." and then he Gaussian blurred away...

              >"This is what I get for stealing, I guess," I said as I shrugged.

              >He clicked his... mustache and I was back in my room!

              >I looked over on my bed and the Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition was gone!

              >My mother opened the door and she said, "My son! My beautiful son! I make you eggs on toast," and she threw it on my bed and left with a smile on her face.

              >I-I-r... I realized... maybe stealing not okay. I looked to the sky and I said, "Thank you, Mario inside Gameboy..."

              >Everything would be alright.

              >And though the child remained permanently dead, his mother could always play his Gameboy Advance SP Blue Edition to remember him by.

              >Thanks...

              >...to me.

The backrooms was a interesting concept, of course zoomies had to inject the SCP disease into it. First they power-creep the frick out of the monsters scp style by making them creepypasta god monsters that turn humans into non-euclidean gore piles with a twitch of their dick muscles. They ruined all tension and isolation by adding fallout style scavenger colonies that are somehow thousands strong and surviving just fine, despite the scp god monsters and everything being poisonous and floors being filled with gotcha insta-kill traps. Worst of all people can simply "noclip" through floors by running into walls and slamming their foot in doorways, which makes the connection between floors incredibly lazy.

It plays with the expectation of a jump scare perfectly and rooms with large enough space to tap in with the opposite of claustrophobia, kenophobia. A deliberate void of seemingly endless space with corners and walls. It has to be escapable, but is it?

In other words, its fricking gay.

Feel free to call me a homosexual or something, but I used to be very scared of glitches and/or noclipping in games. Back when I was eight I tried to do the Missingno glitch in Pokémon Yellow. They fixed it in my version but I tried anyway and the game crashed so hard it broke my goddamn SP. I was only eight so you can imagine how hard that fricked with me. For a while after that I got pretty scared by glitches and noclipping. Having these amazing worlds just break down was disturbing to me at an age where games feel so real and alive, I dunno. It's hard to put it into words.

The Backrooms tap pretty well into that fear of having reality just break down for seemingly no reason one day. People took it too far and turned it into something even gayer than SCP, but the concept itself is pretty solid.

    >He didn't see them, but had expected them, now for years. His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.

    >John was a space marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships, daddy."

    >Dad said "NO! YOU WILL BE KILL BY DEMONS!"

    >There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the space station base of the UAC he knew there were demons.

    >"This is Joson," the radio crackered. "You must fight the demons!"

    >So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.

    >"HE GOING TO KILL US," said the demons!

    >"I will shoot at him," said the Cyberdemon and he fired the rocket missiles. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.

    >"No! I must kill the demons," he shouted!

    >The radio said "No, John. You are the demons."

Nah, I'd say he ultimately lost. I don't think I've ever met anyone moronic enough to think the sequel was good and the remake he did that was supposed to improve the original story was so bad I don't think it's even possible to make it past the fricking Steve Brule tier musings that is the prologue without a frick ton of hard liquor (much less the insane amount of absolutely unnecessary shit like the part where you've got paragraphs upon paragraphs describing JC's self insert wandering around his fricking dorm room ordering pizza, waiting for his pizza to arrive, and then eating his pizza before bumblefricking around doing jack shit while he waits for Sonic.exe to install on his computer). Basically after the original Sonic.exe it was all downhill cumulating in getting busted grooming minors and crying on social media and to youtubers that he only did it because he's struggling with school, his parents are disappointed in him, and because he has no real life friends. I don't think it can be counted as a victory when you get caught red handed grooming kids and confess to being a literal moron and total loser in real life

i think that creepypastas about games with very off things happening in them is cool but they always become lame when the game actually comes alive and tries to kill the protagonist. that is what happens in the godzilla one. i think the princess creepypasta was really cool when it was explaining the story of how people across the world noticed a weird model of a princess appearing in games for a moment and there being an online community out to document it. the story took a nosedive when a gamecube killed some guy on stream. not everything has to be extreme like that and it's okay to not have a big climatic event in the story and just keep it as a mystery

It's nice to have analog horror that isn't just some supernatural allegory for religion or whatever, but Christ did UrbanSpook go straight into edge lord territory.

Will admit I'm still interested in where the series will end up, the paintings is a neat concept that's better than "phone call with 2spooky4me VHS footage" made by someone who has never even touched a tape in their life.

I always prefer horror that has mysteries and focuses on things like serial killers or ghosts rather than “muh cryptids and aliens” and parallel universe nonsense, so UrbanSpook’s stuff is right up my alley personally. I also have massive respect for him for handling the “controversy” over his content by just saying “get fricked lol” and then doubling down on the dark content.

I like his painter storyline because it’s like the analog horror equivalent of The Poughkeepsie Tapes.

what about a parody series of that stuff that has all the trimmings (static, vhs filters, serial killer, brutal murders) but all the drawings he does is really shitty notebook doodles and awful spelling
I couldn't imagine how funny it would be when the "additional paintings" are displayed and it shows "Turkey" is just a drawing of a turkey using your hand as a base like that old kid's drawing trick.

Besides the aforementioned UrbanSpook, the Battington tapes are really good.
The tapes are obviously inspired by FNAF and a bit of the VHS fad, but not to the point where it becomes outright plagiarism.
      https://www.youtube.com/@Battington/videos
One of the best things about the tapes is that the guy who makes them is extremely good at 3D modelling (see pic related) and animation, which especially shines during the second season.
The main series, Harmony and Horror, starts out slow and derivative, but gradually becomes its own thing. The premise is similar to FNAF, but with a bigger focus on the kiddie-killing madlad and his family. Imagine walten files, but not complete shit, and that's basically H&H.
The guy also made remakes of the FNAF VHS tapes until the troony who made the originals(and later admitted to grooming a minor) sperged out at the creator for making a lame April fool's joke and barred him from making anymore But, he just decided to just simply make his own style of the tapes as opposed to remaking the originals. His designs for the animatronics are also pretty solid.

what makes horror as a genre so appealing to loregays? Pretty much every horror franchise under the sun since the medium inception has a shit ton of sequels, spinoffs and now online attention.
no other genre consistently generates the kind of collective autism horror does

Horror hinges upon the unknown, something sperg loregays will "explore" (make up a bunch of moronic headcanon shit ultimately killing any mystery or subtlety).

yep and a lot of that has to do with it remaining quite grounded and not doing a stupid ending

started off really strong. Established many interesting mysteries. Turns most of them to shit or forgets about them and the ending is cheesy as frick.

I firmly believe that every video game creepypasta is written by 12-14 year olds. Especially when they’re based around something like Mario or Sonic. There’s no other explanation for why they all follow the exact same format other than children just copying what’s popular and changing a few things around.
    >just happens to find an old copy of their favorite game from some shady source
    >as soon as weird stuff starts happening they write it off as someone “hacked” the cartridge like it’s just the most common thing in the world
    >becomes suicidal or depressed over seeing their beloved childhood characters with blood on them
    >they never just turn off the fricking game because of “curiosity” even though it’s causing them so much distress
The only reason the Godzilla one stands out is because of the included visuals. Without those it’s the same shit even before the dead girlfriend reveal.

One thing I've noticed over the years is that people have a very fricking lose grasp on what a creepypasta even is.
I've seen morons claim stuff like channel666 or even FNAF to be creepypastas.

There WAS a fnaf pasta bck in the fnaf 1 days about the general Recap of the story, but had some OC bullshit of "Tigor the Tiger" and "Elphonso the elephant" shoehorned into the story for no reason

That’s just children who don’t know how to feel about something unless they can categorize it into something they’re familiar with.
I’ve seen people call videos “analog horror like” because they contain static or cut off suddenly.

            Anonymous

Why do people do this anyways? I don't get why everything needs to be categorized. Some things can just stand out on there own

      this shit was so disappointing
the exposition posts are actually pretty intriguing and better than anything in the wad.
I'm tired of all these horror series with interesting premises doing the whole oooh its actually about mental health and trauma and gay homies kissing oooooooh

I feel like it would be difficult to adapt to a film since its basically just one character and his own thoughts, would be hard to show things visually.

Anyone remember that delta p video or similar PSAs?
Seems like an untapped goldmine for zoomerspooks, perfect opportunity to combine SCP and analog into an unholy "paranormal safety advice" genre.
Would be piss easy to make since the shitty cgi would be integral and contribute vagueness, and the rest is idea-guying some wacky satanhitlermutant factories and the potential for disaster. Like that mystery flesh pit shit but endlessly replicable
