I can understand thinking it's a weaker entry, but calling it shit is insane.

It's ironically the 4th best FF, after V, VI and IX, with VII coming after it

As far as the Final Fantasy USA series goes, Final Fantasy USA is the best one.

      Suprisingly the correct order anon

Rydia is the best Final Fantasy character, growth wise. Pretty great character.

Eh the gameplay is too moronicly linear. You basically don't have any input on how you build your party and party members.

You do in the GBA port but only for the final dungeon.

It has probably the strongest characterization of all the games. If FF4 got a current gen remake, it would still hold up due to the (crazy) story and characters. Besides 4, only 7 and 10 have characters that stood the test of time.

Pretty much defined the series narratives going forward. I got it on Wii Virtual console thinking it was going to be a paper thin grind fest and I got one of the best hero’s journey stories in gaming history.

I like V the most but IV was pretty good. The moon was pretty cool, and the characters were good but I wish characters would stay dead if they're going to die

  14. 2 years ago

V, VII and XII were better. IV's story is generic, archetypal, paint by numbers tripe that even VI blows out of the water.

yeah, FF is kinda infamous for that.

      FF3, FF4, FF8, FF9, FF13 all do that
FF15 if you count the real badguy (Bahamut) being revealed in Ardyn's DLC

        Anonymous

Why can’t Square ever decide on whether Bahamut is good or evil. It seems like he’s been evil more times then he’s been good like FF1 and FFIV.

    Which FF4 should I play?

      Anonymous

Start with the SNES/Pixel old school version. Try to play a version that's based on the PS1/JP release though because the US original is piss easy.

If you really enjoyed it move straight onto the DS/3D remake. Consider that version an expert mode of the game. It's way more difficult and adds an interesting character building mechanic.

The psp version is cool but last i treid itkept corrupting my saves. Said frick it and frick me and started playing ff2 istead and it kinda sucks due to moronly high encounters

          Anonymous

Yeah PSP version gets a lot of flak for its art style but I didn't think it was too bad. It's also the best way to play The After Years if you really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it.

I got it for my collection and just curiosity on all the remakes as i had only played the anthology version before. Truth told i like the psp ff games but i see why some may not.

I didn't mind having to level his ass up again, but I wish I had known that shit would happen. I also wish I had known you could miss twincast and not get it again.

I guess I'm glad I played this one first, but god damn.

Looking back the idea of a rotating cast before finally settling on a final group near the very end was cool. Was like FF2s fourth party member but with a bigger scope.

if you like a challenge, it's a lot harder than any other version

      Anonymous

If you like the 3D graphics it has voice acting and cutscenes and stuff, combat has been made harder too. But honestly, I personally wouldn't play that game in particular if I wanted something challenging. I'd say reserve it for an eventual replay since the PSP version is also a really good way to experience the game.
