Realistically at this stage, the original games should be obtainable items within the current games, existing as minigames within the mainline games.

Or even in the case of these stadium ports, just put them in there. They had built in functionality in the original releases so why would you ever want to play a gimped version tied to a paid service?

With how bad Game Freak are at optimizing, that would just double the size of the game file. Nintendo might have to step in and engineer a new version of the Switch of turn the cartridges to some israeli shit like having the cartridge contain only a1kb single use download code.
And, yes, I'm talking about the GBC and GBA games like you are.

The games can easily be put onto carts since it’s literally just a port with an emulator in the game.
The reason why they don’t do this any more is actually because of the virtual console. Why hand out old games inside newer games when you could sell those old games for 10$ to 30$?

It's even worse because the virtual console can only be accessed through a paid service.

Emulating an emulator is one of the most fricked up hard things you can do, and their N64 emulator is barely holding itself together as it is.
But Joe is moronic, the question he should be asking is WHY aren't the GB games available on the Switch yet IF they want to release Stadium 1 and 2. It seems backwards. Of course Joe doesn't ask questions, he just consumes the product and gets excited for the next product.

Piracy is 100% a service issue. Free emulators just provide a ridiculously better experience, it makes no sense to pay for an inferior product and service.
If they want my money they have two choices, they either do emulation extremely well, with perfect accuracy and all features intact, OR they can put more effort and make a proper remaster or remake that justifies its existence, for example I had no issue buying Wind Waker HD on Wii U even though I could emulate it, same goes for Xenoblade Definitive Edition.
I'll pay money for it, just make it good, at least better than what's done for free with open source code.

"Simply put: The Game Boy Games aren't on the Switch"
Then they should have put them on with Pokémon stadium. They don't even need a Gameboy NSO app. They could have just baked the Gameboy games into the emulation. "isn't an easy fix" my ass.

That analogy doesn't really work because you became aware that the games wouldn't have their full functionality before paying them. Unless you've been paying for NSO this entire time under the assumption that fully functional versions of Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 would eventually be added, which would be moronic.

I don't really know how the emulation works, but I would imagine that the ability to read from the transfer pack is already a part of the emulation. It's connected to the controller, so there can't be much data being sent over. Just make an extension to home that converts the data from home to gen 1's save data and spoof it?

Logistically speaking if all they want to do is port N64 games, the amount of work to transfer in pokemon into the stadium games isn't worth it. At the same time, both games are near impossible to beat with rental teams being so bad. They were better off not releasing these on virtual console due to limitations and deserve the flack they're being given. That doesn't make the people asking them to create an entire emulator sandbox to let them transfer in pokemon less ridiculous.

Amazing how this franchise used to be so ambitious when it came to technology (wireless communication on GBA, GTS, Pokewalker being the most accurate pedometer ever made). Now they throw their hands up when they encounter a software limitation that was solved 15 years ago by free open source software developed by random people in their spare time, and wienersuckers like Joe applaud and make excuses for it.

If any other gaming franchise pulled half the shit Gamefreak pulls with Pokemon they would be run out of business. Like even yearly release shit like Assassins Creed, Madden, Just Dance, and CoD hit the bare minimum of having complete animations, voice acting, and decent graphics. They at least have budgets and teams that reflect the scope of how many units they sell.

I think it’s emulating from the cartridge itself. Standalone Stadium 2 is a rom hack that lets you play non-Pokemon games with varying levels of success, including the Super Game Boy borders.

        Anonymous

I guess that explains why they can't pull it off for the NSO version. Still, it's a shame that they didn't at least attempt to find a way to bundle it with a rom of the game.

He's right but people are of course going to complain about this, since the games are almost pointless if you can't import your custom Pokémon from the Gameboy save files. The Stadium games on the Switch are just going to exist as a archival references if there's no connectivity. You pretty much lose out on half the games without the Gameboy compatibility. I think israelitetendo will probably port the Gens 1 and 2 games over to Switch after the 3DS shop permanently closes, but they should have announced this all at the same time rather than killing the hype like this and shooting themselves in the foot.

I think a lot of it is Nintendo's shitty hardware and how they prematurely aborted the WiiU while the 3DS was still being made. I'm sure eventually all the eshop games from the 3DS and the WiiU will be put on the Switch, but they are morons for not putting all the Gen 1 and 2 Pokémon games on the Switch at the same time as the Stadium games. They can't just make it so you can connect your Switch to your 3DS via bluetooth, since the Stadium games require a constant connection to the Gameboy files via the N64 controller transfer pack. They would have to create a new app or something that allows your 3DS to idle and emulate the Gameboy carts while being connected to the Switch. I'm not a software engineer, and I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but I'm sure they decided it's more trouble than it's worth when they will probably announce that the Gens 1 and 2 Gameboy games are coming to Switch online during the next Pokémon Direct anyway. The gaijin wirr just have to rebuy arr the original Pokémon games on the Switch for ten dorrar each now. :^)

The more successful Nintendo gets the lazier they become. This can be seen since their inception.
When they are in danger they work extra hard and put out a bunch of good shit, look at the Gamecube's first party software output, they got Melee, 3 fricking Metroid Prime games, a godlike F-Zero, 2 Zelda games, Fire Emblem, a bunch of new shit. Then they hit a jackpot and eventually get complacent and stop giving a shit while consoomers buy it anyway. We are in peak laziness with the Switch now, the closest comparison to the current lifecycle is the Wii in 2010, even down to the continuously delayed end of life cycle Zelda game that will probably end up sucking. Absolutely no effort from this point on until they get a successor that will probably suck shit in 2-3 years.
I want Nintendo to fail to the brink of death so we get good shit again.

Why even make the port if you aren't doing this?
        >the fact that pokemon with moves that didn't exist in the stadium games/moves that were considered illegal in the stadium games wouldn't be compatible
Not an issue, just put in an error message that blocks you like how old migration used to block you from moving Pokemon with HM moves
        >the fact that some pokemon's statlines have been changed over time
Not an issue because you don't level your Pokemon in Stadium
        >the fact that pokemon movesets have changed overtime, meaning some pokemon can no longer access moves they used to have in the first few games

it's kind of impressive how wildly you've managed to misinterpret the issues here
          >Not an issue because you don't level up your Pokemon in Stadium
"stat distribution" doesn't mean how your stats go up on leveling, it means these games happened before gen 3 introduced the ev/iv system and gen 4 introduced the physical/special split and home would need to be reprogrammed to support pokemon whose stats are modeled after gens 1 and 2
          >Why even make the port if you aren't doing this?
good question, you should ask nintendo since they're literally already doing it
          >just put in an error message that blocks you
the fact that this message would need to exist is the problem, einstein. the only practical way around it would be overwriting the pokemon's moves with their gen 1/2 learnsets, which is not a solution and would be massively disliked. case in point: all the b***hing surrounding pla's home compatibility
          >Not an issue because you don't level your Pokemon in Stadium
kind of explained this already but what i mean here specifically is that some mons got base stat changes (i.e. butterfree's base special attack went up 10 points sometime within gens 6-8), so home would have to account for that too
          >Not an issue because you don't learn new moves playing Stadium
right, but you learn them in the games you're transferring mons into home from, and if your mon can't learn a move in gen 8 that it could learn in gen 2 you can't get that move in the nso stadium games, which is the problem
i know i dumped a lot on you in both the first post and this one but your reading comprehension skills need work

nintendo doesn't even run the home servers, let alone actually develop home, so they'd have to try and get icla to do all the shit i outlined in the rest of my posts to make it work before they actually develop a way for nso's servers to interact with home
which would take forever even if we assume icla is doing literally nothing right now (which is anybody's guess honestly)

Take attention to the animations. Pretty sure people compared its animations to swooshit to show the lack of quality in them. And thats also why we shouldnt argue with shills. Theyll deform anything the way they want, disregarding any original coment against the games

Compared to other N64 games like Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, and Super Mario 64, Pokémon Stadium looked great. The N64 Zelda games looked pretty good, but the colors in Pokémon Stadium popped more.

The rental Pokemon in these games fricking suck and it's damn near impossible to beat them with rentals alone.

What the hell is the point if there's no connectivity implemented in some form?

      Anonymous

I've save scummed both games to completion with rentals. Stadium 1 literally fricking cheats, it's very blatant and in your face about it when you play it like that. The odds for landing a critical hit/status effect are always against you at all times it wasn't just in your head. Then in Stadium 2 they do all that but make it even worse, they don't even randomize the odds. It's all done at the very beginning of the battle and whether you are going to do good or bad is always determined by how the numbers were shuffled at the very beginning, it's the Candy Land of video games. There is zero influence to the odds based on your choices so having a good team becomes extremely essential.

Mewtwo is actually incredibly easy to beat with rental Electrode+Ditto, but otherwise you're correct. I remember the old players guides from back in the day had ideal rental teams. They would always recommend Kadabra over Alakazam, since Kadabra came with Psybeam while Alakazam only had Psywave iirc. The games are pretty easy if you know what you're doing, but they are still quite challenging considering they were made pre-broadband Internet when no one knew about strats other than what was offered in the flavor text of the games.

        Anonymous

Do we know if there was a reason for the rental teams having shitty movesets? I assume it was to persuade people to transfer their own mons from the GB.

          Anonymous

I'm pretty sure that was the reason as well as trying to keep the game somewhat balanced. They would usually give the weaker rental Pokémon good moves, while the stronger ones would have weaker moves. Rental Charmander would have Fire Blast, rental Charmeleon would have Flamethrower, and rental Charizard would have Ember, for example.

          Anonymous

Because you weren’t supposed to use them. There was probably a phase of production where there weren’t even going to be rentals before the devs realized they couldn’t count on parents to ensure their kid had the gb games. You aren’t meant to use them for the whole playthrough, even if you bought Stadium and didn’t own a gameboy you could play one of the carts solely through Stadium. They are bad to encourage you to use your own pokemon. Stadium’s difficulty is meant to be building enough good pokemon to beat all the cups despite the limited resources of RBY, not figuring out cheese strategies and hoping for good rng with the rental mon

Not Game Freak, HAL Laboratories. And they meant you should bring your own Pokemon as that was the point of the game existing.

You have autists who do the shit in their spare time.

Let's just get to the heart of the matter, the stadium games are a lazy cashgrab and while THEY COULD fix it they don't even want to spend the minimal amount of money. It's just a cash register for normie morons to them. They just come by and collect money from morons who posted their switch with a picture of them with their mouth open on reddit.

Wasn't the big draw of Pokemon Stadium Pokemon in 3D? 3D Pokemon is not a novelty anymore.

I'm not sure of the logistics of getting a 25 year old emulator of a 30 year old game compatible with something like Home but that seems like a lot of effort for fiddling and money to fiddle with such old coding and making sure it works well with todays hardware and while I believe they SHOULD do that for the fans they claim to appreciate so much chances really are they are NOT. Which is honestly really stupid, since, you know, if anyone has the money to spend on something like this it's the highest grossing franchise in the world.

Even though Joe is a bugs in anus shill for Gamefreak, i do get his point. This was the same reason that there was such a delay in trading Pokemon between BDSP/Home/SWSH.

The developers are braindead morons who didn't future proof their own data.

In the case with Stadium/RBY Virtual Console stuff, I don't know why they'd think to even release it in a half ass state besides figuring people would buy it and play it regardless. I also don't know why the frick they wouldn't think people wouldn't buy RBY/GSC right now on a virtual console version that could connect to Home.

Nintendo just sucks at emulating their own hardware and should be run out business, never to make any subpar garbage that will rarely be better than what they already made. Their best years are far behind them, much like every other corporate gaming business that started in the 80's & 90's.
