A Wonderful Life was already a bad game. It getting modern Story of Season'd will probably just make it even worse somehow.
It's true that the original is a bad game. I think the remake has the potential to be better based on the promises of more content and the QOL improvements that can be expected based on those in the FoMT remake.
There's a chance that the remake won't be quite as atmospheric as the original though. I don't know how well-received the bittersweet and melancholic elements of the original were in moonland.
What in the frick are you frickers talking about, AWL was fun as shit
I have less fond memories of Harvest Moon 64 primarily because of how God damn short the days were, Jesus
The days in 64 are short, but it just takes a couple in-game weeks to really get used to it and it ends up being a boon to the game; it keeps things fresh when you don't have time to do everything in one day and it prevents you from getting into a gameplay rut. I've always felt like 64 did the best job of preventing me from autistically min-maxing my time and allowing me to make more organic, on-the-spot decisions about when to forage or visit with characters.
Inversely, I feel that the days in AWL are too long, especially for how little there is to do each day. It's not something that you get used to as you play, it only gets worse.
>dog outlives your character
>all npcs have 5 lines. They repeat them through the whole game
>fewer crops
>all recipes look the same
If I wasn't a Harvest Moon freak back then I would have told you the game was worthless crap, but even then, the game kept me busy for hours, but mostly with a false sense of hope that something new happened in the game.
Half of that is just outright fricking lies. You don't need to make shit up to prove that AWL is a flawed game.
I've tried going through AWL a dozen times since I was younger, but I always end up doing everything by year two, the game becomes a slog from then on and I just end up dropping it.
64 is still my favorite one. I enjoy the challenge of the shorter days and it's the one that feels the most like a labor of love to me. Finally completed the photo album a few years ago.
Karen was so awesome in HM64. Too bad she got nerfed on BTN and absolutely ruined in SoS FoMT. Those bastards on Xsneed killed her.
Mineral Town Karen simply isn't the same character as Flowerbud Karen. There's no point comparing them.

Agreed. Going from BtN and FoMT to AWL was such a massive disappointment.
Only GCucks loved AWL. Shitty empty town, and the worst offender is le zany wacky villager designs. We went from down to earth designs like in BtN and FoMT to shit like pic related and the cyborg looking doctor. The game didn't feel like a comfy rural village sim anymore. Frick it. The only one that I liked was Flora and that's because she is a big tittied megane.
Frick, wrong image
>worst offender is le zany wacky villager designs. We went from down to earth designs like in BtN and FoMT to shit like pic related and the cyborg looking doctor
I never noticed this before, but AWL really did introduce a lot of oddball designs all of a sudden. I think the oddest pre-AWL design was Bob, who was just exaggeratedly muscular with bad posture.
As a side note about AWL, I think it had a really weak town cast overall. I hope the remake gives everyone a fresh opportunity to shine.
>somehow
They showed a godawful looking trailer, we already know how.
I like how it looks, apart from Cody's redesign.
It didn't look godawful to me. I've had low expectations for bokumono's visual presentation for almost two decades now, so the the graphics and animations didn't surprise me. I'm quite interested in playing it.
I can see how AWL is the black sheep of the series, but I'm very fond of it since I played it as a young kid. Honestly farming sims don't appeal to me much, but AWL struck a good balance of being comparably shallow mechanically and having a colorful cast of characters that kept my adolescent attention.
I don't have any interest in this remake as it doesn't look better enough to revisit it rather than the original game.
AWL is not the absolute worst game in the series. Light of Hope is, followed by The Lost Valley. And if you don't want to count the ones Natsume made without Marvelous, then the worst OG HM would still be Island of Happiness for DS since the control scheme made it unplayable.
I would also say Magical Melody was also worst than AWL, but I really REALLY hated MM art style so I might be jaded. Gameplay wise it was probably better.
Magical Melody is far superior to AWL
The only issue with the artsyle is that males have a fat ass that looks like they all have an iron deficiency. Everything else looks really good.
>AWL is the black sheep of the series
I don't think this description fits. AWL was popular and rather well-received in it's time, which is why it was rereleased twice, and why DS happened like it did.
I think the closest thing to a "black sheep" in this series is StH, which was rejected by many for having a gameplay time-limit and no marriage. (I know AWL has a time limit as well, but most players seem to have never reached it.)
Light of Hope and Lost Valley are definitely not part of this series and shouldn't be counted among it.
Cope homosexual. Wheter you like it or not Natsume played a big role in the games, as evidence by Marvelous having to change the way the Harvest Goddess look. Besides as of now they haven't pozzed their games like Xsneed.
If you really want to be a purist gay about it, HM/SoS died after they separated.
There's no cope involved, dumbshit. Natsume did not develop any games in the 牧場物語 series. Their shit quality localizations aren't what gave the games their legs overseas; the games carried themselves despite the regular mistranslations, Engrish, spelling errors, and bugs introduced by Natsume. XSEED's localization is better quality and doesn't abitrarily remove features or censor things like alcohol into "soda".
>pozzed
Stay mad.
In what game they censored alcohol? Every game from HM64, BTN, Animal Parade, have had wine.
>Sucking Xsneed wiener
Get monkeypox and die
>In what game they censored alcohol?
Magical Melody censored alcohol as soda. SNES censored it as juice.
Understandable on the SNES version since Nintendo was big on censoring anything not family friendly. Could have given it a Teen rating if they included alcohol. For MM, I don't think it was a Natsume mistranslation. The game already has an aesthetic to appeal to younger audiences. It's probably that they also mean soda in the japanese version. Do you have the item list in japanese to see if it was called wine?
>you probably make soda in a fermentation pot in the Japanese version too
>it makes sense that drinking soda at the bar makes you sleepy until you pass out
>you probably did shit like grilling clams with grape soda in the JP version too
Look up the JP item list yourself, idiot.
Actually is true, I checked and it seems they censored from Sake to Soda so you were right they did censor it at least in that game. Doesn't change the fact Xsneed is a pozzed piece of shit company though.
>XSEED's localization is better quality and doesn't abitrarily remove features or censor things like alcohol into "soda".
Why would a homosexual spread lies on the internet?
Natsume didn't censor "wine" in most of the games they worked on (Friends of Mineral Town even features it prominently in a sidequest to keep one NPC in the town) AND Xseed censored "wine" in the European version of their first Story of Seasons 3DS.
>pozzed
It matters when games are delayed one year to adjust the "best friend/homosexual marriage" lines beyond the to-the-point lines that only appear when the marriage candidate is maxed out, and permeate the lust and degeneracy into every single interaction, resulting in Predators of Sex-Pest Town and Rune homosexualry 5 where shopkeepers and neighbors are more interested in discussing their fetishes than their wares or whatever they have going on. The entire writing is slanted to serve that one single aspect. No more gendering, no more rivalries, no more friendships, anything that walks that can be fetishized will have lines that wouldn't be out of place in a nineties hentai game.
As for Xseed's general writing quality, even before this, in the 3DS games you could present your blue feather to anyone, and anyone who would be obviously not marriageable would say something extremely generic to the effect of "This is a blue feather, I heard they are used to propose to people" or "you're planning to present it sometimes soon with someone you love? Good luck!". This includes kids of course, and a "literal translation" would be the absolute best choice.
But of course Xseed's progressive localizers would replace that with elaborate fanfiction about pedophilia.
Natsume's translations are leagues ahead of Xseed's shit job with FoMT and likely this one, and that's not even accounting for the decline in the game's quality.
XSEED doesn't publish SoS for Europe. Natsume has censored alcohol in the past, even though they didn't do so in every game.
I don't know why anyone likes AWL. The game is fricking miserable. The entire thing can be described as "waiting to die." You can't even sell your own fricking vegetables so you're a rancher and not a farmer.
>You can't even ship your own fricking vegetables
They need to change that in the remake
The only change that will be made is adding homos.
I hope they give this remake some big changes. I played the original ages ago but it didn't click with me. I already don't like how the remake looks so I'm not going to get my hopes up too high.
>Any hopes or expectations for the Story of Seasons A Wonderful Life remake?
As somebody who considers it his favorite game in the franchise even to this day? I have no expectations. Absolutely none. It really boils down to will they actually make sure it's not a broken heap of shit, and the track record is pretty disheartening with Pioneers and RF5 still being in recent memory. Personally I'm glad a newer generation will be able to experience going into first person mode at the beach and watching the sunset. It's actually amazing how only five games in this series don't have a top-down/isometric perspective and one of those is on the goddamned PSP.
Scratch that, I have one hope. They don't frick up my wife with their new shit art style.
Isn't that what Van was for? I always sold my goods to him when he was in town, especially milk since you could haggle with him to sell at a higher price.
>This new version appears to be largely faithful to the originals, but with significant graphics and music upgrades from the GameCube version. New features will include new events, enhanced festivals, more recipes, and brand new crops, as well as a new camera feature. Here's hoping the remake lets us marry any of the bachelors or bachelorette candidates from either of the first games that we want!
>Update: A press release has confirmed you can play as a male, female, or non-binary protagonist and marry any of the bachelors or bachelorettes you want regardless of gender. (Celia, hello)
lol
>A Wonderful Life was already a bad game.
It's the best Harvest Moon according to Wada and the only one that didn't look like a plastic mobile game back then. You literally have to ba soulless to think it's bad
Of course the ugly remaster tries its best to make it look just as shit and generic as the rest of the series
As a game, AWL is bad. I say so as a big fan of the series and someone who spent many hours playing it and SE.
As an experience, I think AWL is special. It's atmospheric and magical in a way that allows it to provide a lot of joy in the early game. Still, it's impossible to ignore the lack of content which becomes glaring sometime in the second chapter. The game becomes an aimless slog long before the ending is in sight because there's far too little to do and less reason to do it. You quickly run out of things to spend money on or raise animals for. Because of this, I've found that many fans have played and replayed the first chapter of the game happily, but have never been able to make it to the end.
Yes, the first chapter is damn sweet to go through and it's all downhill from there. If they really pour their all in the remake and turn subsequent chapters as content packed as the first, we could be in for a treat.
Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
I'm not aware of any remake for A Wonderful Life
>Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
Personally, I enjoyed it. I'm not massively nostalgic for the original FoMT, so I really appreciated the character redesigns and the QOL updates, as well as the new localization without Natsume's bugs and bullshit. I think it's a good way to experience FoMT for the first time, and still good for people who played FoMT in the past (like myself).
>I'm not aware of any remake for A Wonderful Life
It was recently announced. See the OP image. AWL is being remade in seemingly the same spirit as the new FoMT, with character redesigns, gameplay updates, and added content like festivals, new animals, etc.
how is FoMT compared to POOT gameplay wise? I hated the farming machines you needed to place everywhere and villagers being soulless. I loved the of FoMT so I'd be willing to try the remake maybe
FoMT has fixed locations for your farming structures and no "crafting" mechanic like PoOT's, so makers are a non-issue.
Personally, I didn't find PoOT's villagers to be soulless (although I lamented the lack of portraits), but if you liked the characterization of the original FoMT, I don't think you should have any problems with the remake.
Thanks dude, I'll definitely buy and play it sometime then
>Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
shitty downgrade remake of a remake of a remake
>Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
It keeps very close to the original games, sometimes to it's detriment (the ridiculous requirements for stuff like the mountain villa, gems of truth and that pedometer ring are still the same). Otherwise it's fine if you don't hate the art direction, it's basically the same game with some QOL improvements and kinda superficial additional content.
It is pretty weird that it's a remake of a demake of a reimagining of a sequel though.
>Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
Better than the original and its Natsume butchered script but the art style looks worse to me.
>Is the remake of Friends of Mineral Town good?
no, they removed neighbor marriages in favor of gay marriage
sadly the new games will never be as good as the old games. They simply don't know what makes the trinity of classic harvest moon goodm look at poot. the best games are64, btn, fomt and they simply cant capture or understand what made those games top tier.
the demo. the game's combat sucks. story is lame and the characters are unlikable. Farming is too easy and basic. Just not an interesting game. Kind of sucks because i was interested in it.
this looks cool ngl
>story is lame and the characters are unlikable
Maybe to you but the story was the best part of it for me aside from the music, characters are second. But as you said the gameplay is kinda shit. That said the farming you do in the first 2 chapters is likely not even 1/10th of what is actually in the full game considering they also promised animal/monster raising, but we'll see if the demo is just bad at showcasing the game. The watering wand is way better than bokumono watering cans though, holding the button to make it shit out water infinitely is weirdly satisfying.
>they removed neighbor marriages in favor of gay marriages
The two things have nothing to do with each other. Rival marriages were kill long before you could have homosex.
Ah yes I really enjoy nothing really changing after the first chapter and having nothing to do after the second year.
>It's the best Harvest Moon according to Wada
Source? I remember another interview where he stated that he considers 64 the "closest to his original vision".
>But of all the games in the series, his favorite was A Wonderful Life on GameCube. Why? "It's closest to the very original concept I had for Harvest Moon," he said. "The original working title was "Life Story" (Jinsei Monogatari) rather than "Farm Story" (Bokujou Monogatari). The focus of A Wonderful Life is leading a full and happy existence from beginning to end, so in essence, it's what I always intended Harvest Moon to be".
https://www.engadget.com/2012-03-10-yasuhiro-wada-waxes-nostalgic-about-harvest-moon.html
I still think AWL is shit though.
Only source for him saying 64 is his favorite that I found was a DYKG video. Also found some Reddit AMA with him where he says the SNES one is. Guess he just gives a random one every time he gets asked.
>It's the best Harvest Moon according to Wada
That explains why the series went into a slump. Wada suffered extreme brain damage.
trio of towns was his last involvement, right? no wonder it's one the best in the series.
>trio of towns
>one the best in the series
people actually think this? lmao
we have original SoS, grand bazaar, and duo of town in the series anon
Wada releasing absolute turds doesn't make the one time he failed to shit up the basic fundamentals "one of the best"
he knows what makes a great game in rune factory, so it's probably budget issue or same problem with pokemon, it sells well so don't try to fix it.
Wada has nothing to do with rune factory
He also had nothing to do with Trio of Towns. His last harvest moon game was Tale of Two Towns which is another piece of shit.
I checked the wiki and actually his last game was animal parade, I remember someone left after trio of town so I guess it's another guy. Also he's involved in rune factory 1 and frontier, and considering how good frontier is as farming game (3,4,5 and ocean is too action-y game) he knows exactly what's he doing.
>and considering how good frontier is as farming game
what the frick are you talking about
have you actually played frontier with its runey shit?
Of course, it has the perfect balance of farming and RPG, runey is a problem, but it's so not so awful to the point ruining the entire game.
>but it's so not so awful to the point ruining the entire game
good one
>boohoo everyone warned me about the runey, but I didn't pay any heed and now my save file is ruined!
heres your (you)
HM64 was better
BTN was better
how come fomtards have never heard of btn
I assume that most of them are youngsters who had GBAs as children and never owned a Playstation. Pretty much anyone who swears by the original FoMT or is very nostalgic for it probably started the series with it.
the series needs to go back slightly to the root, and by that I mean adding a little bit of reality back like any game from animal parade and beyond. Their attempt of wacky world are awful.
my time at portia/sandrock are better
Been playing Rune Factory 5.
So far it's fun, definitely not better than 4, Frontier or Tides of Destiny
Complaints so far are the performance, even on PC it still stutters, and starting the game each time really has trouble loading up everything.
Character events can be a bit messed up, I started one but because it finished in the same place another one is, I had to finish that one before doing the one I actually wanted.
Artstyle is ass. Town should've been much much smaller.
Are you liberally using your fast travel spots to mitigate the issue of the town being too big? I know it's not a perfect solution, but getting into the habit of fast-travel took me a while when playing so it's worth asking.
Nah, I actually think the town is a good size.
I just meant that if the town was smaller, they wouldn't have to render so much stuff and have it look as bad as it is. Maybe it was a budget thing or new people working on the environment. Like they were biting on more than they can chew.
I get the impression that the dev teams of both RF and SoS are underskilled and underpaid these days. I don't think it's for a lack of wanting to make the games good that they come out looking and running like indie games or games from previous generations, but that Marvelous won't pay for more skilled programmers and artists, and/or won't give them enough money or time to get things done right.
>Like they were biting on more than they can chew
That's my assumption, since if you look at the character models they really look pretty good. Hard to enjoy even that with the ass animations. It feels like they definitely ran out of time and rushed through everything else.
Just found out there is a mod to fix a couple of things, can't wait to try it out.
Which mod fixes this shitshow?
I'm using BeplnEx, RF5Fix (Download this one as it comes with BepInEx and is required for everything else), Better Furniture Placement, NPC Details, Craft and Upgrade Interface upgrade.
All found in nexusmods. None fix the performance but at least fixes some minor annoying stuff.
No, Jas, no!
>can marry an actual e-girl in stardew
>still can't even marry hags in sos or rf
It's not fricking fair. I expect this from Japan not the west.
You can only marry jas by mor, it doesn't count.
Might as well just write your own fanfiction for rune factory if that's what works for you.
>mor
Dammit, meant to say mod
>doesn't count
Says you. I'd kill for a Venti mod for RF4 or mods in general.
>mods don't count
I kind of agree, but don't, especially when the mod in question is an improvement in every way over the actual game. It's one thing when it's a good, story heavy game and a modder is inserting their own characters and plotlines into that, it's another when it's more freeform and sandboxy and the modder is improving and expanding or correcting oversights.
>especially when the mod in question is an improvement in every way over the actual game
The mod is only an improvement over Stardew's bare ass soulless NPCs. The cult that's built around it here is only holding it up because they've memed themselves into thinking it's more than it is.
>The mod is only an improvement over Stardew's bare ass soulless NPCs
Sure, I won't argue that, but it is still an improvement over a game a lot of people already play and enjoy.
>The cult that's built around it here is only holding it up because they've memed themselves into thinking it's more than it is.
Disagree here. They're reacting to exactly what it is. When you consider the contents of such a mod and Ganker's enthusiasm for such things it's not hard to see why it blew up those threads.
>They're reacting to exactly what it is
No, they genuinely believe the mod makes Jas better than anything Rune Factory and the like could offer and will get angry the moment you imply otherwise.
I'll take your word for it, but I'm willing to bet that boils down to Jas being a literal child more than anything and so the mod could be way worse than it is and they would still vehemently defend it. That said the only thing I noticed she's lacking from RF is time of day dialogue.
>they genuinely believe the mod makes Jas better than anything Rune Factory
I've never seen this said in anything other than jest or shitposting.
I think you've got to take a step back sometimes and not get lost in easy shitposting and bait.
>I've never seen this said aside from when I've seen it said but they totally didn't mean it when they say it over and over again
Okay
>greentext implication
Just call me homosexual who is incorrect or something instead of this passive aggressive shit.
Seconding that anon that I've never seen it said, let alone over and over again. There tends to be very little talk of rf in general in sdv threads. About as often as sdv is talked about in rf threads.
>About as often as sdv is talked about in rf threads.
And I'll add rf threads are way more aggressive towards sdv than sdv threads are rf unless an rf fan is actively antagonizing people.
>unless an rf fan is actively antagonizing people.
Which is what I, the anon he replied to, was talking about seeing.
Then they were probably saying whatever to piss him off, you know how it is here.
>you know how it is here.
Of course, it's what I assume most times.
Sun and moon was such soul.
what are we playing farmbros
just finished snes. it's always interesting to see a franchise I love's roots, but man the tedium of everything did not age well. the spritework and animations were soulful and lots of fun. i liked seeing my little man wobble around drunk after his wife eve got him pissed every night.
now i'm getting started on hm64
I'm not doing any farming at the moment in anticipation of the AWL remake, although I have been feeling a small urge to replay GBC3. For a game that really doesn't let you do anything different from playthrough to playthrough, I've revisited it often.
Are the other GB HMs worth trying? I've always skipped over them, but Sara a cute.
3 blows the other two out of the water, content-wise. 1 is very barebones and 2 is a step-up, but if you haven't played any of them, I recommend going straight to 3. If you like Sara, you can marry her in 3 and the events are quite cute. Aside from that romance, there a variety of other memorable events and occurances in 3, making it one of my all-time favorite GBC games.
Despite coming from such a basic system, HM3 was ridiculously memorable and varied in the kind of shit you could buy, extra activities like skiing, finding that magic egg or completing the aquarium, and just having that whole city area in general
The theatre movie of the lazy man and his flower was kino, and one of the series greatest mistakes was getting rid of things like that, and FoMT's daily tv shows
Im playing Potion Permit which is very símiliar in gameplay to HM/SoS/SV games.
So far my main complain is that dialogue seems to be repetitive, running is slow (although there's fast travel), and there are no character portraits, just sprites. Also there's only 3 bachelorettes/bachelors which is dissapointing but so far is pretty comfy, and it only costs $20.
the demo was pretty buggy, is the final game better?
>what are we playing farmbros
Does Sakuna count? Just started it, seems fun.
>now i'm getting started on hm64
Hope you like it, it's my favourite.
Just started playing Rune factory 4 who’s best girl?
the one you can't marry
For me, it's Amber. Dolce and Xiao Pai seem fairly popular on Ganker though. Give them all some attention and see which one you're most drawn to.
sleepy girl by far
Yes. Master.
Yes. Master.
Dolly-channnnn
For me is clorica and dolce
Always and forever will be Amber.
Best girl overall however has to be Turnip Autist
she's not the best, you're just a pedophile
>Seething over the best green-haired girl ever
many such cases! And you will keep seething because:
Bug women > Dwarves > Ghost b***hes > Humans > Knife-eared homosexuals who need to mind their own business
>Knife-eared homosexuals
Nobody tell him.
Ever since Rune Factory 2 I have learned to hate Knife Ears so god damn much
Jake is the epitome of being an Elf, and Cecile legit deserved a better canon rival than that SILVER-HAIRED FRUITBAG OF A FRICK NUGGET
I FRICKING HATE ELVES SO GOD DAMN MUCH IT SENDS MY BLOOD BOILING HARDER THAN THAT Black person AQUATICUS AND HIS HATRED AGAINST HALF-BREED MONSTER-PEOPLE
Amber has knife ears too.
no she doesn't
and even if she did how the frick is she an elf if she's like
also a god damn butterfly
Dolce is more of an elf than her
Anon, invite Amber into your party, and then look at her 3d model from the menu.
Don't you fricking put this evil on me anon she is NOT an Elf
I DID NOT marry an ELF just to have a HALF-ELF KID, I MARRIED HER for the BUTTERFLY BULLSHIT
I'M GONNA FRICKING KILL MYSELF IF I GOT FRICKIN CHINK'D INTO MARRYING AN ELF
I'm just messing with you. The guardians are earthmates, and earthmates are confirmed to be humans. It's just that Leon and Dylas got animal ears, and Dolce and Amber got knife ears in addition to all the other features.
Okay good I can accept your bit of trolling as good classic fun.
Christ that was terrifying
Imagine unironically marrying an elf that hides their elf lineage in front of you
To be fair, it took me a long time before I even noticed Amber had knife ears. Volkanon too, even though it's right in his portrait.
NTA, Amber is my favorite RF4 girl and I'm a lady likely old enough to be your mother. Save the word "pedo" for people who want to frick real kids, please.
>NTA, Amber is my favorite RF4 girl and I'm a LADY likely old enough to be your mother. Save the word "pedo" for people who want to frick real kids, please
>he fricked up on his wojak post
the state of wojakBlack folk
I wasn't going to use a wojak
Okay pedo.
I love Mist too, bit best girl in 4 is Clorica.
They're all kind of boring and nobody holds a candle to any of the girls in 3. I married Margaret only because she's related to Daria though i can see where Dolce enjoyers are coming from even though she's not my type and flat. I have resigned myself to RF4 being the last good game in the series.
Oh yeah clorica is good too.
The girls in 3 are all equally boring once you get past a couple meme lines from half of them.
Yeah the girls in 3 have a one note personality but at least they have that much.
Don't know why i pointed that out. I'm kind of drunk. Every waifu in the series is pretty flat except the weather witch in 2 and the big sister in Oceans, yet another reason 5 is unforgivable is the bird waitress isn't a marriage option.
If Dolce's flat, then basically every girl in 3 is too. She and Forte are on par with Pia at least.
Oh frick i meant to say Forte. I see where fortegays are coming from. Dolce is boring tsun shit and is only worth it for pico
Xiao Pai.
>game series has ZERO (0) barefooted waifus
Trash.
The game is adding festivals, so I wouldn't be shocked if there's a swimsuit event in the summer now. Just buy it anyway, degenerate footgay.
>degenerate footgay
>in a thread about dating e-girls in a farming game
Bro stones in a glass house or something.
I just got pioneers of olive town. What am I in for? Did I like it?
A very watered down HM experience.
>Did I liked it
If you have bad taste yes.
Is that the new one with the 10,000 machines? It's not good. Everything is too easy. You can max everything in your first two seasons just by playing ultra-casual, then the rest of the game is grinding lumber and stone with your machines taking up more space than your crops or barns.
It's ok and can easily hook you if you let it, but it's got a long list of mostly minor issues that pile up and drag the experience down. I'm guessing you got it cheap at this point, so you might at least get your money's worth. I ended up playing it for like 180 hours.
I liked it, despite its faults. The game's greatest strength is allowing the player to feel like they're constantly working toward something. My biggest complaint is probably how lackluster the festivals are.
Many players dislike the abundance of maker machines the game expects you to have on your farm and manage, and I wasn't a fan of that myself, but it didn't ruin the game for me. I got plenty of mileage out of my playthrough.
I enjoyed raising animals in PoOT more than I usually do in SoS, for some reason.
>I enjoyed raising animals in PoOT more than I usually do in SoS, for some reason.
They made it a lot simpler. I also enjoyed it, but there should've been a bit more to it.
I think this might've been one of my hardest choices in a video game.
Naughty little girl needs correction.
Correction mods when?
PLEASE INSERT CHARACTERS PORTRAIT IN THE CHAT DIALOGUES.
IT'S NOT SO HARD TO DO, PLEASE PLEASE!
animal parade
oceans
Anon that takes time, effort, passion, and money. The 4 things they don't got.
you gays will argue about anything
both are useless except for chasing the bum away.
Pointy ears. I love the classic dog, but ultimately I chose the AWL-unique design more often when I played.
FLOPgayS WHERE WE AT
Basset hound > sissy dog
Why yes, I think Trio of Towns is the best farming game how could you tell?
I couldn't tell. What makes it the best, in your eyes? I enjoyed it a lot myself, for the record.
nta but Komari, Kasumi and Lisette are the bachelorette candidates are the best in the whole franchise and nothing else comes close
especially kasumi who is also the most unique bachelorette in the franchise
I always hear anons say that about Kasumi, what makes her so special?
Kasumi starts out hating your guts simply because you're a guy
You can still breed her. In fact, you have to be a guy to do it.
The progression is definitely one of the best in the series, also apparently the male candidates are all pretty bad according to gays and girls.
>apparently the male candidates are all pretty bad according to gays and girls
Ludus seemed fairly popular, and I liked autismo Ford, although his in-game portrait was tragically shit. Were Hinata and Yuzuki unpopular?
>That's a good game, but actually Animal Parade is the best game. You knew I thought that? I wonder how.
Based Trio of Towns enjoyer.
I've yet to find a farming game in recent years that drew me in like this one did. And chances are I will not for a long long time with how SoS and RF are going.
Do you ever post anything different
Like what?
I dunno, just seems like you always post that one same image. Kasumi a cute, but posting the same one over and over gets boring, you know?
okay redpill me on Trio of Towns
how good is it and do I need to emulate it?
Trio of Towns is a good farming game with a few questionable progression choices. There's an old Ganker guide that we put together back when the game was new so that one could power through the unlocks if one wanted to.
https://pastebin.com/gRP8ifDJ
Of course you can take it easy and go at your own pace. You'll just be at the mercy of the seasonal changes for crop requests. Like you'll have to wait until spring comes around again to grow those crops needed for a specific request.
Emulates well too. If you do decide to play it dont forget to grab the DLC + game update.
looks more appealing than the remakes of FoMT and PoOT
know where I can get it? Is it a console exclusive or something?
It's a 3ds game. I couldn't tell you if those 3ds CIA sites that used to be all the rage are still up. Could always peruse the external archive and see if that gets you anywhere.
Typing Trio of Towns CIA or citra into your search bar couldn't hurt either.
Also iirc the game update required for the DLC is 1.1. I'm not 100% on this but it was like the only update for the game.
Only thing I dislike about the farming in ToT is how limited the amount of space you have feels
I learned after like 50 hours playing that you can put more than one item in a maker at once but it was still kind of annoying
No, Marvelous have lost it when it comes to making something good.
My personal hope is that someone with actual taste, probably a smaller japanese crew, makes a new one that is as soulful as the old ones.
Honestly just bringing the games to pc has been nice. They just need to stop messing with them so much. I hope they pull something good out of their ass eventually , but farming life sims has always been a struggle.
Lumina's new Chapter 1 design is very pretty. This hair length is perfect though I think I've seen a screenshot already that shows she still cuts it by Chapter 2.
Confirmed that Lumina still gets her short-haired timeskip design, presumably in chapter 2 like in SE.
It's pretty much just her old, youthful design from the original, but taller which feels like a mistake
Her hair is longer too. I don't think making her taller was a mistake. It prevents her from becoming a foot taller over the 1-2 year timeskip between chapter 1 and 2, and as much as I'm sure Ganker hates it, it makes her look less like she's prepubescent in Chapter 1.
Gotta age her up somehow, in the original she's 14 and main character is 25. (Celia is 19, Nami is also 25, and muffy is 28)
>not a child who ages up
gay
Tsurutan is more unsettling than I remember.
>Option to upgrade tools
Already confirmed. Special tools were broken in the original.
>More farm upgrades
They done this in later versions, it helped the pacing of the game.
>More stuff to buy
Money is often irrelevant mid-game
>More stuff to do
Sometimes the days were too slow
>FOMT crossover
Like the original games, i'm sure that's planned
>Better mine.
Like every other harvest moon.
>No gay options
Not happening, but HM was always a traditional game.
>Better festivals
Already confirmed.
Looks pretty good already, just make it comfy. And Steam release please.
My love, Dolce.
is RF5 really that bad? I enjoyed RF4 a lot
It's not. People are just mad because of the gay shit.
No, but the technical issues are quite jarring. At least on Switch.
It's RF4 with less content and some clunk. People give it more hate than it deserves, but I still enjoyed my 80 or so hours with it. PC release fixes most of the atrocious performance issues.
Sadly Stardew Valley is still the best farming game playable today
A wonderful life remake looks so much worse than the original. I'm just gonna stick with the GameCube version.
is there any fun farm game that isn't as autistic as farm simulator but not as bad as the shit ports/mobile like rune factory 5
Ok so which of these games actually DO have rivals and how many of them are playable on decent hardware
64, BtN, FoMT (gba), the ones on DS and Wii I believe. All should be emulatable fine.
64, BTN, FoMT/MFoMT (GBA original), Rune Factory 2, DS, IoH, SI, ToT, and AP have rival pairings. They can all be emulated easily, as far as I know. N64 emulation was notoriously ass last time I checked, but HM64 was fully playable with minor visual glitches.
I really hope the 3 remake keeps the original translated dialog because it was perfectly stupid
For me, it's Marlin.
How do you feel about his redesign?
not him but same shit different generation
I think this
design would have been more popular with nip girls 19 years ago than pic related was.
I miss his hair, but it doesn't matter to me all that much. I'm just glad they kept his eyebrows.
Even though I'm biased to pretty boys, the appearances of the AWL bachelors don't matter to me all that much since Gustafa and Marlin were both such sweet characters once you got to know them in AWL and DS Cute respectively.
Except Rock. Frick that guy.
married rock when I played another wonderful life as a kid. hated every second of it afterwards, what a selfish piece of shit.
>tfw the only guy who looks like he's the protagonist's age and is the closest thing to a jp-approved prettyboy is a lazy, selfish cad even after courtship and marriage
Never stops being hilariously tragic.
It would be par the course for the remake to make his personality more palatable. Iirc, DS already did that to him (along with others like Nami), although everyone in DS was more bland than they were in their original games.
I hate all the redesigns I've seen so far.
Imo, all of the single girls got slight upgrades.
I hate everything about the remake's appearance and its redesigns. Utterly soulless.
Yeah, that's what you get for not being able to marry me, b***h.
I feel like the AWL remake will almost certain be good, hard to be worse than base AWL after all
Is Flora marriagable like in HM DS? And what does her redesign look like?
We don't know.
It does not appear that she's marriagable at this point, although she's not on the "Townspeople" page of the website yet either, so there's still room to hope. There is much of the cast that hasn't been shown off yet, as it's typical to drip feed news for every game these days.
I could even see Flora being a "secret" option even if she does show up as just a townsperson initially.
I would be so happy if they added her as a marriage candidate, but she's not on the site...
Hey, anons. I'm about to pirate Pioneers of Olive Town.
Is it fun?
This was sort of answered earlier in the thread. I liked the game. You don't have anything to lose, so just jump in and see.
A lot of people ask this and the plain answer is it depends. If you're an HM/SoS veteran, then no. It's lackluster and soulless. If you're not a veteran and you're looking for a casual farm game, maybe? Most likely yes.
It's an enjoyable farming game, as far as feeling like there's always something to work on, but the town and its people aren't very memorable
Thank you, anons. I just read what other people answered this anon too,
I might see what's up. I'm downloading RF4 Special and PoOT. Can't wait for this AWL remake.
I'm still working on the RF4 mod, it's slow but steady work, but it's a lot faster now that I've tweaked my workflow. It's not perfect, but the backgrounds are clearer than the original and the pencil/watercolor effect adds some much needed noise
left is vanilla, right is upscaled
Were you the one trying to port the original textures, or is that a different anon? Either way, good work.
Yes, that was me. Thank you.
The original textures are unfortunately too compressed to re-use, so I had to train an ESRGAN model to fix the sprites, but at least the backgrounds scale back down nicely.
Why the frick they decided to upscale everything 3x instead of 4x, I'll never fricking know.
What all have you completed?
So far, all the inventory items and crops are done, and I started work on the maps a while ago. The town is "done" but I discovered some issues with the alpha channels so I'll have to redo those unfortunately. It'll be much easier going now that I've found a better batch solution.
I'm making good progress with the field maps and should have the non-dungeons finished in a few days. Once I'm, done with the maps and all of the foreground map objects (they are separate for some fricking reason) I'll put it up on the nexus and finish everything afterwards.
thank you.
Nice one, Anon. It's looking good.
I hope left is the result because right looks hideous and disgusting.
While your at it can you fix t awful yuri mod to actually work like it's supposed to
RF5 was made in Unity, right? How's the modding going on that?
Been looking some up.
They're mostly QoL mods, very helpful.
The best one I saw fixed the furniture so that you can place it up against walls and stuff. Crazy that that was in the game. Didn't see any huge mods or content additions though. Maybe some sprite changes
What went wrong with Rune Factory 5? It felt like a f2p Chinese bootleg game.
It didn't feel that way to me. It felt like Rune Factory.
I want a Pokemon farming game.
I want a Pokemon dating game.
I want gamefreak to die.
Slugfricker please go
What are good games in this genre with decent gay romance options? Aside from the obvious stardew valley which isn't even that good
Rune factory 5 doesn't seem well received
Stay out of my farming sims homo.
Not getting any results for that title, any other games?
Harvest Moon: Shear the Queer
Found the closeted gay.
Give RF5 a chance, it's not THAT bad.
My Time At Portia has many romance options.
Is my time at portia good gameplay wise? I've looked at it before but I really don't dig the art style. I'd be willing to deal with that though if it's a genuinely good game
It's ok. I'm not fond of the oversized heads of the characters. It makes them look too childlike. The fact that it is fully 3d is different from many games like it which mostly use a top-down perspective.
Decorating at first is a problem until you have more to work with and some of those options take a long time to get to.
The fishing functions alright but it is not relaxing.
I prefer it to My Time At Sandrock because the changing of the seasons is more noticeable in Portia than in Sandrock. (since Sandrock takes place in a desert)
RF5 isn't great in terms of gameplay, but Murakumo is genuinely a 10/10 hasubando.
Are you guys getting these games in pc or console?
Seems pc version got a lot complain in steam review
That's only because consoles don't give you the right to complain
This. You have no rights on console, you put up and shut up or don't buy it. That said PC users will complain about everything, for good or bad.
RF4S PC port has issues from what I remember, including a bug that would crash the game if you got too much money or made it to Year 10. No idea if they were ever fixed.
>made it to Year 10
People play these games for that long?
I usually stop before I make it through summer year 2.
The game skips a few years after your child is born so it wouldn't actually be that hard to come across.
Is there any 3D farming game on Switch worth my cash, anons?
minecrap
Has anyone here played Tale of Two Towns on DS/3DS? It's one of the only ones I haven't played and I'm wondering if it's worth sinking time into
I have
Its a massive time sink that plays at a glacial pace. Its actually frustrating how glacial the progression is in the game. It takes at least 5 years of in game time to fully upgrade your tools.
Wow, that sounds disgusting thanks for the heads up. Guess I'll replay Sunshine Islands or Animal Parade then.
has anyone ever played both 64 and BTN? I've only played BTN so i know i'm biased but usually in these HM threads you have people swear by HM64 however FOTM was a remade BTN. how good/bad was it?
BTN feels incomplete especially when you compare it to 64.
FOTM is to BTN what 64 is to the SNES game.
how so?
I played both. 64 is my all-time favorite, but BTN is a great entry in the series. BTN has some great festivals and events that didn't survive the transition to FoMT, and it's more atmospheric than FoMT, which is why I prefer BTN.
My biggest complaint about BTN (Mineral Town) has always been that it reused the character designs from 64 when it should have redesigned everyone (which was finally done for SoSFoMT). BTN's characters and relationships are also simply a downgrade from 64's imo, but that's more subjective.
I hope there's an option to dress up your spouse in the AWL remake
No but really is there a good 3D farming game on Switch?
Sakuna
There's a lot of combat but the farming is good too, those homies literally farmed rice to make this game
>no mention of harvestella
what killed the hype?
I haven't played the demo but I'm told there's not actually much farming
No marriage
I can't get over the devs not giving the male mc his own design. If they can't do something as simple as that, I don't trust them with other parts of the game.
It unironically looks like a mobile game. Everything about it feels low budget, and the only thing from SE that I consistently like these days is DQ so I had doubts from the start.
The combat is lame for a game that is probably 75% combat. Now that I think about it I don't like the bag/item controls either, it's super clunky.
Never forget our boy Hyde, the Unity stock asset god.
the demo and no marriage
CAN XSNEED NOT PUT SOME FRICKING SHADERS ON THEIR GAME? IT LOOKS WORST THAN THE PS2 VERSION, THE SWITCH CAN RUN DOOM BUT CANNOT RUN THIS SHIT?
XSEED is not the developer.
Marvelous is cheap and incompetent.
is Kynseed gud?
Where's the best place to start if I want to avoid the 2D games? PoOT? RF5? Are there mods to remove the forced gay shit in RF5 yet?
If by 2D games you mean even just ones with an overhead camera, why? Feels like those are the good ones.
I haven't played it myself yet but RF Frontier seems pretty well received (with runey cheat).
when is this releasing?
looks like hideous soulless chink garbage
Somehow I have this huge craving for harvest moon but whenever I play one I get bored extremely fast, I'm blaming ADHD at this point
Right now I'm coinsidering playing either 3 or 64 since I got flashcards for both systems ready to go and I never really played them seriously.
I never played AWL so I'm looking forward to that.
Last HM I played was fomt remake and I got burned out when I got to the hunt for cursed tools, I get that was meant to be a secret thing and you were supposed to play the game over a long time period but for my current playstile where I got limited time to play and I get bored fast it's the worst conceivable thing
you won't be able to stomach AWL
I don't blame you when FoMT in general has always been a bland game in comparison to its PS1 counterpart; this goes especially for the remake when its only purpose for existing, unlocking content in AWL, wasn't a thing anymore.
AWL is all atmosphere zero content so you should not be looking forward to this remake that butchers the atmosphere and likely has hardly any new content.
If you had fun the rest of the time you might have a better time playing these kinds of games like I do, start from the beginning and when it slows down move to another game/start over/etc. Personally my playthroughs don't last more than 2-3 years because I always found the early to mid game progression more satisfying because starting out with nothing and always upgrading something is more fun to me. Basically trying to push the limits and see how far I can get in that time is how I have fun with farming games tbh
2-3 years? I can barely get to summer
There is over 40 HM games, but only like 5 good ones
>SNES
amazing and soulful as frick back in the day but stale
>GB
My very first HM game, played it for a long time even though even as a kid I recall it turning out really boring later on due to the very limited content, the most exciting thing in late game was whenever somebody walked up to the door
>64
Playd ages ago for a bit on an emulator but didn't go far, tried recently on an emulator again and the slowness and unoptimized graphics turned me off, going to attempt again on a real N64 and CRT so maybe it can stop looking like shit
>GB2
skipped, will probably continue to skip due to GB3 existing
>Back to Nature
skipped, does it even have anything that fomt doesn't?
>GB3
Attempted a bunch of time over the years on emulators but never really stuck to it, may try again
>save the homeland
I never had any idea this existed? Nobody ever mentions this so it has to be mediocre
>FOMT
played the shit out of this on emulator back in the day, picked back up a bunch of times in the past few years but I never really went past the first year since my original run when it came out
>AWL
skipped, tried once on emulator but it was slow as frick and besides I got turned off by how different PS2 and GC version were, with neither being a better version over the other
>Magical melody
Tried on emulator, it was neat but didn't go too far with it
>DS
Absolutely loved the shit out of this one, it was FOMT but with even more things added on top of it. Tried to pick back up in the past few years but never really stuck to it
>island of happiness
Played this a lot but upgrade system with orbs was cancer and led to resetting every day just to speed it up a bit
>tree of tranquillity
I must have tried it because I had a flascart at the time but I must have found it horrible because I completely forgot this existed
>sunshine islands
The last HM I liked, it was islands but better and bigger... except somehow I never went far in it when it came out and neither when I tried to pick it back up
>>save the homeland
>I never had any idea this existed? Nobody ever mentions this so it has to be mediocre
It's soulful like AWL, but the fact that the whole game is only one year long, and meant to be replayed to get different endings, and Hero of Leaf Valley existing as a remastered version of it, essentially makes it forgotten to most people
And now we enter the shitzone
>animal parade
woops looks like this is the one I emulated and not magical melody, guess I have no idea what magical melody even looks like
>grand bazaar
skipped
>hero of leaf valley
skipped
>tale of two towns
the game that made me realize HM went to shit and never recovered, couldn't stomach the game at all past the first season
>story of seasons
tried it but the premade plot shit made me drop it FAST
> trio of towns
I have no idea why I was still buying these games by this point but this was another disappointment
>FOMT remake
amazing remake but FRICK the hunt for cursed tools, I'm not 16 anymore, I have no time for this shit
>olive town
first modern one I actually did not dislike, the stardew valley influences are blatant but I didn't like how it became a repetitive material farming (haha) fest midgame
>innocent life: futuristic harvest moon
Tried it a few years ago on emulator or something, wish I played it back when it came out but damn that intro is so fricking long
>rune factory
cool when I was 18-19 but nowadays I really have a hard time even playing the remakes for some reason
>save the homeland
>I never had any idea this existed? Nobody ever mentions this so it has to be mediocre
It's good but it has several different means of completion. the game only lasts about, forgive my memory, 1 or 3 years? Where you're intended to accomplish at least one of the qualifications to save the villiage before the deadline. And once you do so, the game ends, credits, and it expects you to start a new game to beat it in a different qualification. it's a shorter experience. Not a slow burn like most HM games which makes it a bit of a black sheep. You can beat it in 1 or 2 days.
it's amazing that mobile games are more powerful than the switch now
StH takes place over 1 year. You can roll over much of your progress into a new game+ for the next playthrough though, and I found it very enjoyable to play the game multiple times and get different endings. StH has a great cast and atmosphere.
This is my most anticipated game of next year rn. it was among my favorite gamecube games as a kid. I just hope they dont frick it up. The game needs some more content. I hope it doesn't add homosex
>I hope it doesn't add homosex
I think I saw something about them adding a non-binary character to the gender choice so I wouldn't get my hopes up on that.
https://www.fanbyte.com/games/news/story-of-seasons-a-wonderful-life-remake-will-include-same-sex-marriage/
Why would they not add it? They've already done it to Rune Factory 5 and Friends of Mineral town remake.
How does the kappa pregnancy hijinks work with a male?
That's a good question.
>"We. Adopted."
>fricks off
Same as it does with other same-sex couples. Goddess asks you to raise a child, you then tell your spouse that you agreed to it.
l a m e
half the fun of kappa is him being a deadbeat cucumber fiend
He still is. He still wants you to leave him alone while you court him, still immediately abandons you after the wedding, making you wonder why you even married him, and leaves you again after acknowledging your pregnancy or adopted child.
trio of towns was the last good sos/hm
why cant they fricking bring back the sprite portraits? even the japs have been constantly nagging the devs to bring them back to no avail
Olive Town was the first game to skip them in a long time and AWL never had them. Hopefully the next original game will just bring them back.
At least with AWL, the original game didn't have them. I would hope that portraits are on the table for the next original game if Marvelous still refuses to get a good 3D modeller on the team.
I hope this one isn't Switch Exclusive and comes to PC eventually.
Looks like 3D Stardew which I liked with friends but I cannot play a farming-only game, despite Stardew having a very simple dungeon, I need some combat thrown in, even if it's just mashing A.
This one doesn't interest me a bit. I'm not keen on multiplayer.
They look like mysims, I hope the game has more attractive 2s portraits
Building interiors look like an improvement from PoOT.
this looks pretty good
It looks like Stardew Valley but 3D and sterile.
I thought that was Michelle.
she deserves the bdsm treatment more than luna
you do big cums in your wife in nearly every game, it's literally canon
Frick nu-Bokujou Monogatari
Frick nu-Marvellous
Death to Xsneed homosexuals
Thanks for leaving Hakama out of this I guess.
Why tho
Small indie studio make small indie game with small indie budget
I don't think I'm joking.
Because the small fanbase is largely female.
But I'm a guy and I wanna frick every girl in town in every game until I'm dried out of cum.
You need to start making the porn then.
I would if I knew how to add scenes.
In RF5 at least since that's what I'm currently playing.
Only girls play these games anon
too wholesome
Rune Factory isn't good
Why not
I've played stardew and the first three rune factory games, but never any harvest moon or sos games. Which are the best of those games that I can emulate on my phone?
The GBA and the first two DS games are a good intro to the series and should run fine on a phone. Keep in mind that the male version of the DS game is bugged on certain releases, so do your research on which ROM is best to use. IIRC the Euro release had less issues. The girl version doesn't have as many bugs.
My wife Kasumi
Gotta love a good schizo post.
I'm not the only person here who married nuKappa, am I?
BishieKappa is the best thing Marvelous has done in the last 10 years.
I was tempted ngl, but faltered and went for Karen
nuKaren honestly is pretty good. not as good as Karen Classic, but not terrible
is it masturbation if it's yourself from another reality
I'll always have a soft spot for Rune Factory Frontier and Animal Parade on Wii. RFF for Eunice and AP for Witchie.
stagnated genre
