Just finished this and it's amazing.
The gameplay feels satisfying, the story is absolutely insane for being inspired by fucking FF1 and the OST is full of fucking bangers. How did they manage to take the Mt. Gulug theme and turn it into this masterpiece? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrDnTqKZvcA
How is this shit not talked about constantly?
I feel like everyone just memes the shitty CHAOS meme but nobody actually bothered to play the game.
I'm waiting for a sale to play it, even if its half of what i think it is i will be happy
I can't believe he actually unironically became chaos punch
FUCK LUFENIANS.
They should make a similar game where you travel dimensions kciking lufenians.
I can't entirely blame them since you can't really grasp much about the game until you actually play it.
>story inspired by ff1
qrd? Im not too far in, I beat a knight who turned out to be a smol woman. Stopped playing for a bit but I wanna get back into it
FF1 basically tells the story about how the four crystals of water, fire, wind and earth became corrupted by some boss monsters who were sent by a being called Chaos. The crystals being corrupted means that these elements are fucking up the world. The legend says that four warriors of light will show up one day to defeat the monsters, cleanse the crystals and get rid of the big bad called Chaos.
SoP is basically the same, except with a lot of meta narrative, neat callbacks and unexpected developments if you have the FF1 narrative in mind, with a very cool and satisfying ending imo.
You play as Jack, who tries to kill Chaos with his friends Ash and Jed. You being just three people though has the king skeptical if you're actually the Warriors of Light, because they're supposed to be four people. After you kill Chaos you meet Neon, the fourth Warrior of Light, who tried to become Chaos to give the people hope that Chaos can actually be defeated, because Chaos isn't actually real. The world is still fucked from the corrupted crystals, so our teams get on their way to purify them. Except on this adventure you actually meet a fifth Warrior of Light, as well as a lot of strange flashbacks and memory sequences which hint at some bigger shit going on than just "save the crystals, save the world".
>when 1:26 hits
i thought it was just memes but the game has a ton of soul and the time travel story is pure unfiltered kino
jack will get a sequel right bros
once they see the extra steam money come in.. its gotta be guaranteed..
It is in fact underrated but at least we have the last dlc at the end of the month. Discussion should hopefully resume for a brief while until dying off again.
Best Final Fantasy I've played in years
It doesn't understand what made Dark Souls great.
It is, ironically, a soulless game 😉
crazy how retards have been saying this for over 5 years now
what the fuck does it have to do with dork souls
The first dark souls is my favorite game but this is a final fantasy game, not a dark souls one. It doesn't need to understand what made dark souls great because the game has nothing at all to do with dark souls you absolute troglodyte.
It plays nothing like Dark Souls, but okay. You're probably thinking of Nioh, not SoP. At the end of the day, it's like comparing apples to potatoes.
When you kill your allies, I wasn't ready for that
Game is amazing but nobody talks about it here because it's not on Steam and most people who claim to be PC master race here are just steam drones.
To be fair the PC version seems to run like shit and the fan patch just shaves everyone's heads to speed up framerate
I would like it on Steam Deck tho
I don't like it
It seems like the job system is massively limited compared to Nioh's weapons
There were many threads on release day and even more when the DLCs were announced
I can't wait for the next DLC, I want Garland's armor.
Haven't played FF2, what's the Emperor's deal?
He's an emperor that wanted to take over the world and when he died he became king of heaven and hell.
I want the new gun weapon.
Jack gets a gun? Nice
Yeah, it's a new weapon type. It also has melee moves and there's likely going to be some that look like gunblades or at least I hope there is.
The gun is gonna be so broken with those "kill the enemies as they spawn" missions. Since the spawner is on the way, it's just out of reach.
Waiting for the Steam port, it is bound to happen, right?
It will probably happen in march when the one year exclusivity is over.
egs and getting memed on, nioh also has a rep
bad timing with elden ring as well
we will see a lot more when it releases on steam and it might give it a second chance
the last dlc is later this month, guessing steam will get a complete edition or something after that, it launched march of last year, so around that time?
I really liked it, everyone I know who played it really liked it, most people thought it was a meme game or just hadn't heard it as far as I can tell
why would it come out in march on steam? Is there any reason to believe that?
Nioh 2 came out on PC 2 months after it's last DLC so It probably will be the same with this game.
It released in march 2022, past games have shown that the exclusivity period for EGS games is around 12 months. So it's likely that it'll release march 2023 on Steam and other PC stores.
But who knows, maybe Epic bought the exlusive rights for the game altogether and it'll never leave EGS. Time will tell, I guess.
>it launched march of last year
>12 months exclusivity is usually standard for egs
>dlc launched is space before that so if u buy the dlc u don't feel robbed for buying it there and playing it instead of a complete edition
>time to fix up anything and fix up any bugs in time for a complete edition
>launch complete edition on all platforms for the anniversary, including steam
I mean it just fits anon, its a guess, but its whats happened to other games, and it fits TN's MO, the only question is about square, since not all their stuff has made it to steam
where are you getting 12 months from? kh3 isn't out on steam yet that's been out over a year, shit.
metro came out under a year, so did borderlands 3. ff7... I can't actually think of any that took a year.
https://kkkepic.com.br/en_US/exclusives/
A lot of games back then had a 1 year exclusivity period, but it can range anywhere between a few months to two years. So who knows.
motherfucker can u read?
do u not see the
>the only question is about square, since not all their stuff has made it to steam
READ moron READ
all your questions are already answered
>steam port
>SoP dlc in two weeks
>Wo Long at begining of March
Looks like it's going to be a strong start to the year with Team Ninja action RPGs.
YOU'RE FINALLY ASKING FOR HELP!?
Because it was talked about for a while; but almost everybody treated it as a joke without ever experiencing it one way or another. That, and since it was an EGS (console aside) exclusive, released at around the same time as Elden Ring, and, as much as I hate to say this, the game isn't streamer friendly. With even that, it would at least be more well-known.
The issue was that the first reveal trailer honestly wasn't that good. I'm guilty of shitting on it too but they actually managed to turn it around because they took the criticism and made each trailer after that much better. The memes were funny and all but I don't buy games based on memes. I think a lot of people never ended up giving it a chance after that initial first impression. It did also release a little too close to Elden Ring. ER was a huge game and a lot of people were still finishing things up with it by the time SoP came out.
Don't forget to mention that one of the last songs you hear in the game is also on the PS4 start menu: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJPbqcrBE6g
That's exactly my point. Because of one fuck-up as well as bad timing, the game falls into obscurity.
It's a shame because it ended up being really good and a lot better than I expected. As it turns out, first impressions are important. I hope the lifetime sales do well enough for it.
The game was surprisingly emotional. I didn't think I'd grow any sort of attachment to the characters but the last few missions really cranked the emotion up.
>the game isn't streamer friendly
I'm shit at games but other than being stuck on a few bosses for an hour on hard mode the game was pretty managable. If streamers can manage to play through the souls games and elden ring, they can totally manage this game as well.
I'm not referring to difficulty. What I mean is that streamers were not allowed to, well, stream it; much like how Atlus didn't want Persona 5 to be streamed. That, and the Sinatra estate would probably rain hell on them too.
The worst thing that can happen is that their VoD gets silenced for 30 minutes. Otherwise you should have a button to mute the game ready anyway nowadays. At least I streamed it uninterrupted and nothing happened, other than the muted VoD.
Nonetheless, every game released with licensed music should have a "replace licensed music" option.
The ending almost made me cry.
Wish the game had more missions honestly but other than that it’s pretty much the perfect game for me.
>almost
The most entertaining part for me was recognizing places from the other Final Fantasy games.
i found it really disapointing
Don’t talk to me.
DONT YOU EVER TAKK TO ME AGAIN EVER.
But seriously what disappointed you?
it felt like squenix didnt give enough money to team ninja and they couldnt go all the way
Anyone else have problems getting the PC version to work with an Xbone controller?
Because it came out at a fucking horrible time, just a couple weeks after elden ring, and got completely overshadowed by it because it's a "soulslike" in the most barest of senses. It's more like nioh 2.5 (but with no dogshit stamina system thank christ, just MP).
The demo they released was fantastic but too hard for most people, as is evident by looking up discussion around the time it came out, the pricing was insane, $60 for a like 6-10 hour experience is INSANITY.
And again, lastly, not to be understated, it came out just a couple weeks after elden ring. It stood 0 chance, and they knew this.
6-10 hours? I guess if you play story mode rushing just the story maybe, I think I beat it the first time in hard mode in 40-60 hours
>how is this shit not talked about constantly?
being on EGS doesn't help
I wish more people played co op in this game. Always fun to see other people’s builds.
Some tracks were really good. I love going through this level just for this shit.
One of the best games I have ever played, I didn't think it at the beginning but it's right there with Nioh 1 and 2
A question for fellow jackbros: how do you keep your volumes? I crank music way up and effects to like 40%, voices 70%, but the voices of bosses during the battle (e.g. bikke, the fiends) are barely audible... If I put everything to 100% they are even worse. I was like 80% through the game when I realized that bosses talk actual words during attacks, but the volume problem plus no subtitles means I cannot understand what they say...
Are boss voices during battle dialogue or effects? Is there a way to get them to the normal dialogue volume (even a mod if necessary?)
The game is fun as fuck, but the post-game/DLC difficulty&grinding really bums me out and reminds me why I stopped playing MMOs
>new DLC comes out
>read patch notes to make sure your current buils isn't nerfed
>grind to max iLVL
>unlock new job
>finish new story content on extra mode
>grind to unlock the job max level uppers for your build
>grind for a full set of gear from the new TIER of items, which contain the right bonuses for your build
>???
>wait until next DLC
>repeat
3/5 - The way they designed the postgame and DLC scaling is just not for me
I blame the nioh gear philosophy for that, that said the last nioh 2 DLC did add in more blessings for build variety/support so I'm hoping that SoP's final DLC will do the same
I love Nioh 1+2 and SoP but all three I've lost interest during the DLC.
Really wish they'd abandon the gear system altogether.
balan wonderworld was SUCH A black hole of enjoyability in gaming that it stole SoP's thunder along with it. It literally got memed to fucking death.
I'd get it if they weren't still trying to charge $40 for it on sale. MAYBE $20. MAAAAAAAAYBE if I was really desperate. But from the demo it feels more like a $10 game. So I'll just wait.
egs exclusive curse
the map/exploration, inventory and game performance were all terrible on release
completed it and never picked it up again
>Jack's game is good
>Jack becomes the king of v (gets the hardest lineup and btfo's them all)
>This leads to more people playing and discussing the game.
I am happy. It was basically barren for a while because Square released it at the same time as elden ring
>egs exclusive curse
Which is why I upload my copy to csrinru to keep the piracy scene alive for it until it gets released on steam
>Which is why I upload my copy to csrinru to keep the piracy scene alive for it until it gets released on steam
If you were the same person who uploaded it on the day it released last year I thank you
Anon I'm literally the only one uploading this game to csrin for the past year. Without Morrison gamer we wouldn't have a crack. He gets a lot of thanks too.
You are a good person. Never lose that
cheers my friend
Probably why I also dropped it since I didn't bother looking into patches for it.
I kneel.
Hey OP, the final DLC will be uploaded either the same day or day after the last patch comes out.
Keep an eye out on csrinru.
I'll buy this game full price when it comes out on Steam, gotta support my bro Jack.
>EGS
I bought it and played through it a bit but I hate opening EGS>
Bros, I forgot my username and password for EGS, how will I ever play Jack kino? The future is forsaken...
>How is this shit not talked about constantly?
Because it runs like ass. 2022 and devs made stupid high poly models with no LODs.
>Team Ninja's C team
>Inferior to base Nioh in every way
>Nonexistent story
>Bland corridor levels
>Convoluted and tedious gear system
>Hyper retard AI for allies
>Horrendous job balance
>Combat system is rigid - attacks can only be mitigated in one way rather than multiple (i.e. even if you perfect dodge an attack if its an attack the game wants you to block or absorb you take damage even outside the graphic).
>Everything plays off the same poorly functioning stamina bar
>Being hit while downed (so if you mitigate in a way the game doesn't want, ou will be) so it's instant death regardless
Game is a solid 5/10. If it came out around Souls 2 and before Nioh might be a 7. But we already got so much better from Team Ninja. This feels phoned in. It'll get generous passes from a lot of weebs because Final Fantasy and "dood chaos lmao ebin"
story
Yeah, no.
>Hyper retard AI for allies
Also, no.
>Horrendous job balance
Get good if you suck at a job. They're all good.
>Being hit while downed (so if you mitigate in a way the game doesn't want, ou will be) so it's instant death regardless
Don't get hit then. The game gives you like, 5 different abilities to either block or avoid attacks, if you still get downed you just suck at games and should probably pay attention to what's happening on screen.
In any case: How about you actually play the game before you try to shit on it.
Yeah, yeah. "WHERE CHAOS HMM NOT HERE WHERE CHAOS HMM NOT HERE WHERE CHAOS HMM NO HERE OH YOU KNOW WHERE CHAOS MIGHT BE OKAY WE WILL TRUST YOU NOW. HMM NO CHAOS NOT HERE. HMM NO CHAOS NOT HERE. MAYBE WE WERE CHAOS ALL ALONG.. DAM....."
Also, yes. Very retarded. Idle a lot. Sparingly use abilities unless you use their "power up" mode that is brief.
You're in deep denial if you honestly believe the jobs are all balanced. There's huge power gaps between'em even on the same tier. Hell, Berserk BTFOs a few final tier jobs even.
>blah blah suck git gud etcetc
Game isn't hard. It just has disingenuous attacks. LIke when the hydra jump stoms at you. You MUST block it. If you perfect dodge it you get hit by an invisible circle of damage. The game is littered with this shit. It quite literally punishes you for being good outside how THEY want you to be good
Are you new to the concept of AoE and hit-boxes? That jump has a large hit-box, soul guard or parry are your best options there. Some job abilities like fangsetter stance and jump can also deal with it. Assassin has increased dodge iframes and can probably dodge it but I'd need to go double check.
>Game isn't hard. It just has disingenuous attacks
Normies will be playing elden ring then shitting on games streamers tell them to shit on by saying stuff like this
It's so very true that bitches be lying
>If you perfect dodge it you get hit by an invisible circle of damage.
anon plays his first video game ever
DAM....."
Give the game another chance - it really does get more interesting as it goes along. You have to be willing to pay attention and not just giggle while regurgitating memes, though.
>Also, yes. Very retarded. Idle a lot. Sparingly use abilities unless you use their "power up" mode that is brief.
This is the least optimal way to play the game and you'll get punished for it more and more the further you get.
>You're in deep denial if you honestly believe the jobs are all balanced. There's huge power gaps between'em even on the same tier. Hell, Berserk BTFOs a few final tier jobs even.
Some jobs are better than others but any of them can be viable in the right hands. If one job isn't working for your preferred playstyle, try another one. That's the whole point of the system.
>Game isn't hard. It just has disingenuous attacks. LIke when the hydra jump stoms at you. You MUST block it. If you perfect dodge it you get hit by an invisible circle of damage. The game is littered with this shit. It quite literally punishes you for being good outside how THEY want you to be good
The game offers an impressive amount of flexibility, actually. There are your typical big two-handed sword builds, mage builds that balance direct attacking with carefully-timed magic, builds that emphasize countering over balls-to-the-wall offense, and much more. Keep playing and you'll find a style that you enjoy. Or don't - not every game is for everyone.
>He got flited by Chaos?
The budget is smaller than Nioh but I wouldn't say it's phoned in, it's actually really solid. You bring up Final Fantasy but that really wasn't the draw for me, I just wanted a good Team Ninja action RPG. I've played a decent amount of FF games but I don't really consider myself a huge fan of the series in recent times. Story ended up being pretty enjoyable despite being full of Nomura time-hopping/memory shenanigans. There's plenty of good jobs, the balance is fine for the most part. I don't know what you're talking about combat being "rigid". You've got dodge, parry, soul guard, and some action abilities to avoid damage. I actually liked many of the levels too. It's not flawless or anything but it's better than a 5 for sure. The gear system was incomplete at launch but the last DLC massively improved it by giving you full customization over everything.
>little bro wrote a novel instead of just saying he didn’t play the game because it’s not on “steam”
lol
great taste, Marilith is my favorite OST too
>Nioh 2
>SoP
>NEO
>Scarlet Nexus
>Astlibra
Good time to be an ARPG fan.
>Astlibra
stop shilling that garbage, it's shit
Its great, sorry bro.
/ourguy/
>Bitches and whore - Garchad
>Only on epic
I finally beat Death Machine legitimately, but I wish I'd done it on the lvl 500 quest, because I really don't want to fight it like that ever again.
I need to clear the rift up until the end of the story part before the final dlc comes out. I'm only on like floor 4 I think.
story rift levels are easy. Floor 22 onwards doesn't have extra mode, so you need proper gear to continue.
If you're looking for a good gearset, the paladin+dark knight set on psnprofiles is pretty good, I got through all of the 'new' stuff with it pretty well.
I didn't go all the way to level 100 but I had more than a good fill of the game, hope the last dlc is as good as gilgamesh.
>netbuilds
Ew, no. I am currently playing Blue Mage/Thief. Considering swapping the latter for Summoner and running around with fuck all MP because I spend it all on trivial shit, but that's for after DLC 3 comes out
>hope the last dlc is as good as gilgamesh
Even if it isn't (which is unlikely), playing through the rift with gunner should be fun. Doubly so if they end up letting you play through it on the new difficulty/max iLVL and including the new level(s?), enemies and bosses.
I'm not good enough at these kinds of games to come out with mega builds, I definitely wouldn't have thought to max out hp with monk and get a buff from paladin for it.
I did know about the thing for near-death dark knight though.
Yeah when I fought it in the rift I used Extra Mode, when I attempted the side quest fight I only did the level 400 quest, it’s second phase is a lot easier to deal with than the first thankfully, but it’s a chore to get to it.
If it is not on the Nintendo Switch it is not a video game. Wrong board
Been spending most our lives living in a Stranger's Paradise...
WHO AM I
The best character in the game
My friend
Does this work on PC yet? I could hardly play it at launch below 1080p and got less than 60 fps on a 2070
What? I had 90fps 1440p max settings on a 2070S R5 3600?
Maybe its a processors issue on intel and the game hardly ran at all
version 1.12 is fine yeah. DLSS too if you give a shit.
1- it melts your PC if you can even get it to run at acceptable FPS
2- not on steam
3- /vee/ gets fucking FILTERED because Jack's game requires you to use more than one brain cell
I've been enjoying the hell out of it. I do wish the combat system was a bit more deep like Nioh's. Expert jobs should be able to switch weapons on the fly or something. How is the Dragon King dlc? Might pick it up once I beat the game.
I didn’t like Dragon King that much, I feel like Wanderer of the Rift offers more, Dragon King is nice for the summoner job though.
I'll get the season pass, that has everything yeah?
Yeah it’s got everything, the upcoming dlc looks good too so you’re not really missing out, Dragon King is just kind of barebones so I can’t really recommend it by itself.
I think all the dlcs come as the same package, but honestly the bahamut dlc is kind of lame because the "main content" is just like 4 new missions with a bunch of difficulty modifiers, but the bahamut fight, the warrior of light fight, and all the actual new stuff with weapons/jobs/etc are all great so it's not that bad
Gilgamesh's dlc is fantastic though, all of it.
>The gameplay feels satisfying
It's a button masher. Literally all your tools go back to spamming the basic attack to build mana. Removing Nioh's stamina management to cater to retards was a mistake.
it's soulful job combat
never before have they actually had a GOOD representation of the job system in a fully action setting and dragoon feels fantastic
>it's [meaningless buzzword] combat
I'm actually envious you can enjoy the game despite how shallow the gameplay is, but maybe that feat is because you're a Final Fantasy fan rather than a fan of Team Ninja. It's better than most budget spinoff games, but it' s a poor showing by the devs.
yea i'm aware of nioh but never played it (or any souls game, for that matter) and I was playing it purely off of it being a final fantasy game
surprisingly given how negative my opinion of it was upon its first trailer it quickly became one of my favorite games. Not top 10 or anything but it's certainly up there, and even if it was entirely team ninja's work and not squeenix's it does give me some hope for the franchise, something it's desperately needed for a while
Red mage/Sage into hastega stacks and dropping ultima+meteor feels great, as does dragoon, monk, samurai, etc
I didn't try most of the jobs outside of leveling them a bit but all the ones I put any amount of time into were fun
The shilling felt really forced so decided to skip it. Main characters looking like american chuds didnt help either.
I must bump this thread so that Jack can kill chaos
yup it's a great game. Good clean fighting. Performance is the worst issue. I guess loot annoys people but I think most people will simply enjoy and play the story through.
Tonberries have raped me many times...
Loot's annoying and outrageously obnoxious in base game
With the level of customization in gilgamesh though it'snot that bad
>How is this shit not talked about constantly?
Epic games store
When it came out epic games was even more of a dealbreaker than it is now, you'll see a huge boost of discussion when it hits steam
The story is 100% completely retarded but is sort of so terrible it loops back around to being good.
>How is this shit not talked about constantly?
Inferior and disappointing compared to Nioh 2
