I didn't mind the beta, but I basically stuck to the arcade games and training mode.
There is no need to be upset. Literally acquire skill if you can't blow them up as a classic player. If you're losing as a C, it's fully on you. They're completely hamstrung and obvious in block strings.

Beta is a lot of fun, hit gold and will probably hit it on ryu as well. still excited to try the other characters. Guile feels stupid strong and Kimberly is very annoying. Game feels simple yet fun, im sure itll have more depth when parry and burnout stuff is explored more.
yea this sucks, but i get it. I really like that i can compete for high scores in arcade mode though. Got top 5 in magic sword, i spent more time on that then the game in beta 1. I'm sure they dont want people playing the games for free with friends cause "we can sell the games in a collection" but no one would ever buy it.

There's already some changes in the demo. Luke got some buffs and more importantly you can cancel a perfect parry straight into a drive rush
6 months ago, it's been playable since November. so if your main is a Shoto, Kimberly, Guile, Jaime, or Juri then the game's effectively already been out for half a year. lol

literally none of the character i actually wanted to play were in the beta but i still had a very good time with chun li, got a good feel for the mechanics and i already find it much more enjoyable then SFV, can't wait to get my hands on gief and honda

Many of the di spamming silvers use it on accident and eat a full combo when I block it

Easiest combo I've found to get to level 4 is to play against another Jamie and initiate the traditional greeting of mutual respect and friendship. It works every time.

I installed the beta on Thursday and didn't end up actually playing it at all, combination of not really caring about the characters in it and also knowing that since the build is so old anything I learn to do in it will probably just fuck me up learning the release version.

Same. I completely dislike drive rush and drive impact. They're just badly implemented imo. Parry should not have been universal, it should just be v-skills again because that was a good system. Drive impact needed to be gone and replaced with something else. Drive rush is fine but they basically shifted frame data focus to that instead of on normals having plus frames (which some still do). From day 0 I can tell you this game is gonna be hell to balance for e-sports.
The drive impact camera slowdown is fucking stupid and invasive to the gameplay. It's not hype to see how one asshole mashed drive impact last, so now he gets to tank the drive impact and hit the guy with his own. That shit is not hype, it's just two retards mashing on the funny armor move, it's not a fucking daigo parry moment so the slowdown isn't needed. The equivalent of v-reversal is somehow even worse and punishable now, that shit is insane. They turned v-reversal into DNF Duel's guard cancel AKA it's punishable on block and it costs a ton and there's no reason to use it and you're better off doing i-frame super or ex-DP. I have more to say but basically now that capcom let the general public play it, I can see a fuckton of flaws in this game and I'm not really hype about it anymore. Maybe by season 2 they'll patch it up, but the meme impact and other mechanics are never leaving so I dunno.

That makes sense. Fireball & anti-air get the Charge premium for strength but unlike 4 he no longer needs charge to confirm things. The backstep looks very strong too, actual mix on Deejay.

my issue is right now the mod scene is basic but in a year it might be really fucking cool. if i get it on xbox now, i won't be able to get any mods unless i buy the game + any costumes again on PC. and you can turn off crossplay, which some PC elitists would do. This removes a portion of the playerbase that I can interact with if I'm on xbox.
here's what you do. you buy the game on Xbox at launch, because the mod scene is gonna be in its infancy and the games gonna have less MTX like costumes for you to get cost sunk into on that platform.
then once the mod scene has had time to stretch its legs and they add some DLC costumes, buy the Super Street Fighter 6 bundle on PC and migrate over. there's no real reason to play on PC at launch for mods, mods won't be super great and plentiful until S2 anyway.
i skipped SFV for other fighting games, did Capcom ever do limited-time cosmetics in that game?
God knows what DRM Capcom will use in SF6 anon. Apart from Denuvo they might have some server side DRM that will detect file changes so no mods. Woulnd't be suprised if thats the case since monetization around this game will be based arount mtx for your avatar and character costumes which...you could mod in for free and capcom wont like that.

Even Maximillian said that he asked them about costumes and stages, and they explicitly told him they weren't gonna say anything about it.
Refusing to say anything about this a month before launch is throwing a huge red flag. I'm concerned we're gonna get drowned in $10 costumes, $7.99 stages, and a shit ton of microtransactions for World Tour Mode and the Create-a-Fighter suite. Virtually no one is talking about this either, which makes it all the more worrying.

every character has some attack strings which can break through DI. jamie's 5HP for example if it hits the opponent up close will break through DI. I got my DI broken many times by a kimberly spamming jab or chunli's kick. not to mention that once you get used to the time and are always on the look out for it it becomes a lot easier to counter someone spamming DI with your own.except kens kimberlys and juris...I swear their DI hits twice as fast as the rest of the roster.

The Drive System does pretty much nothing but steal mechanics from 4 and V. Even eventhubs were like:

They took ideas from every prior SF. Technically it's closest to V in small things like the buffer and hitstop and some of the combo system but each mainline SF series is pretty significantly different. Alpha 3 is good but it's the most "anime" SF ever got.

Very, very few things are plus on block. Mostly jabs, some things attached to resources or stuff with stupid long startup. They don't want V's pressure game in 6. Drive Rush gives all normals 4 additional frames of advantage though, that's your way to get frame traps and tight blockstrings.

Everyone's neutral buttons feel a bit too stubby. Chun's 5HP is so short, same with Ryu's 2MK
Drive Parry Dash Cancels are generally not work the meter loss unless you're securing the match.
Throws are insane in SF6, the time to throw is deceptive since you can actually grab opponents mid-wake up instead of when they stand.
Select normals causing juggle states on punish hits are odd, but interesting since you'll have to adapt your combo based on the situation

Nah, I think drive impact is good for teaching players not to button mash. It favors good defensive plays and reading the opponent.
Drive Impact can be mashed out of though with select characters. Ryu can mash st.lp x3 to break drive impacts, and every character can just mash out a drive impact of their on if they throw out a normal prior

If you just keep parrying them normally the zoner will come out with more Drive meter overall, and if the life is equal or in the zoner's favor then this is worth it. Also I think some of the non-beta characters can get around it more easily (JP in particular can teleport over to you or just do his projectile grab to blow it up).

I guess I didn't really factor in meter gain. Based on my few hours of play I had stopped zoning completely and stuck in the mid-range since everyone seems to just parry fireballs on reaction now.
This ain't Third Strike. SF6 parry is basically just blocking, even with the same blockstun if you aren't perfect. It doesn't invalidate zoning any more than just blocking did in other SF games
thats wrong. fireballs basically dont chip anymore. parry also reduces pushback.
that alone makes long range fireballs fucking useless.
on top of that you can actually parry drive rush fireballs. thats not in the beta, but its in the demo which uses a newer build of the game.
they chip Drive, which you still don't want to lose too much of. And the zoner is still gaining Super and Drive meter when the fireballs land, parried or not. perfect parry DR relies on you being perfect, which you aren't going to be when different strengths of fireballs travel at vastly different speeds which will make a HUGE difference in your ability to parry properly at the distance where this matters.
they do not chip drive if you parry. parrying fireballs is meter neutral.

I've been trying it in this beta and I managed to do it very often. good jamie players use it to drink for free full screen. its much easier than perfect parrying incoming strikes.

The only way to play Luke is if you get the charge timing down. All his other combos will do shit damage without it. The only good thing about him is the reach on his normals. MP MP can confirm to sandblast which is neutral on block, I believe, but can also confirm into the launcher.

It makes sense. Luke is very easy to learn but has a high ceiling to aspire to without switching to a different character. Also I think casuals at least understand "let go of the button early" better than most executional requirements.

Pretty much every slide in fighting games has variable frame data based on how early it gets blocked since it's active for so long and always takes the same amount of time. The later you block it the safer it is.
Do it so only the top hits the opponent for safe on block, but further distance for you on hit. Activate it later for better spacing on hit but negative on block.

The thing that killed SC6 was Critical Edge and Soul Charge being such dominant comeback mechanics that invalidated the rest of the fight.
Reversal Edge was a retarded minigame, but it's warranted removal would not have changed SC6's fate. It was ultimately a non-issue and using it was often detrimental to both parties.

It exists because they didn't want frame traps to be too prominent and wanted a mechanic that can both help escape the corner and make being cornered scary.
DI is useless against frametraps. the default frametrap in this game is jab mash because everything else is so minus and DI loses to that always.

however most buttons that are used in frame traps are special cancellable which means you can cancel them into DI on reaction to the other persons DI and beat theirs

I've only played Ryu. Got to Platinum, now taking a break. Going to play with other characters and try other modes before it ends, I played Ranked the whole time.
Game is really fun so far, but the Drive mechanics are going to take getting used to. I got hit with Drive Impact a bunch and didn't use it enough.
Never played SF before and couldn't really figure out the game since I'm used to anime games but I did have fun so I'll probably get it and just play Ryu or Ken for a while until I get used to it. Kimberly was fun too.
However this game is $100 in my region so fuck getting it at launch holy shit.

Drive impact blows dick, the startup is so slow you can tap it with two normals and still get the counter DI. Drive Rush is the busted shit.
Drive Impact was designed to be anti-SF5 players. Once you learn to press DI to counter DI the mechanic becomes irrelevant.
Honestly DI is only best used against mid-screen fireballs. The first person to throw DI loses, I doubt we'll see much of it in top play.

Raw Drive Impact is like Charged Dust in Guilty Gear. Its gonna be non-existant in high level play but you'll be able to fraud out wins online once in a while with it because at some point in the future its going to become so uncommon that your opponent wont be expecting it.
