Just bought this game and enjoying it so far. Any tips on where the best to build the base - or it won't matter? Any tips for new player in general?

Imagine being this much of a b***h to ask for help, ever
Just play the game without help, it's good. Don't go to the wiki either and ruin everything.
Just
go
play
now.
best base is a spot you think is pretty or atmospheric. if you want to powergame then put it near one of those heat geysers for geothermal power later on. but really it's about having a room with the perfect view where you put your bed and desk
Pretty much this. My favourite spot is near the kelp forests because they look beautiful and there's a thermal vent in a cave nearby from memory. Once you get the seamoth, travelling anywhere doesn't take too long so you don't need to worry too much about the "best spot" for resources.
for me, it was the jellyshroom caves
>beautiful dreamy color palette
>moody thudding techno when i come home
>snakefrens pop out to say hi and take a nibble as i pass
>multiple heat vents
the comfiest
Is that the one with the giant shroom in the middle before you dip down to the lava caverns? Easily my favourite area for building comfiest base.
no its pic related
you're thinking of the ghost tree, which is a superb place for a base yes
I'll just warn you to pay attention for possible clipping, as in a literal bug, when piloting the submarine. It's very rare, to the point you may never actually see it, but it can happen and you don't wanna get fricked out of progress by that.
I forgot to mention, build a chair to sit in to attempt to correct it. Might also be related to grow beds, might also be alleviated or greatly exasperated by jumping. It's a long-running thing that to my knowledge wasn't fixed. Again, possible you might never run into it.
looking around more, limit the number of plants regardless of what kind of plants to 3 when having plants inside the submarine. Might eliminate the chance of suddenly plummeting to your death.
Is that on PC or consoles?
I don't recall any gamestopping bugs but I only played through it 2.5 times.
how scary is this game? I'm a pussy
it can be very tense
Horrifying, but only for reasons you deserve. I pussy out on most horror games but this one is tolerable, you'll build yourself up.
It gets totally deflated once you realize how limited the number of things an enemy can actually do to you is.
It's tense until you actually understand how pathetic and weak and easily defeated and moronic all the enemies are and then the game completely loses its charm, not just because the danger feeling is gone, but also because you understand nothing aggressive underwater even behaves like a wild animal, they literally just have "aggro player" flags where they beeline for you.
If the animals at least had realistic animal behaviour I could've treated it like an ecology sim and it would've been so much more interesting.
i have to pause it every now again to recollect myself before unpausing, it's very tense especially if you have a fear of exploring deep sea.
Not scary at all
City building games are scarier
Subnautica is the literal definition of comfy
It can be terrifying. But the sense of exploration keeps pushing you further and further down into the abyss. It’s an incredible experience.
It’s horrifying. But also the single best indie game I’ve ever played
I coped by never looking down and it worked
You will probably end up building several bases.
There isn't really any reason to have a permanent base.
Having a central point for storage is handy.
seamoth has storage
the prawn does
you don't need a base
you don't need a base
you will eat the bugs
Maybe if you are a multiple playthrough speedrunner who knows exacly what they need and when.
Download a mod to streamline the game's shitty inventory system. And then just play and have fun
Is Below Zero really too shit to play?
yes
No, but it's not as good as the first. Still pretty decent but the biggest chages are a smaller map, the seatruck replacing the seamoth, and the story being a lot more in your face.
below zero is way more story focused and it's full of woke shit, everyone is gay or lesbian and the character you play as is a Black person even tho your sister is white, avoid it.
It will give you that Subnautica fix but at the high price of having to tolerate unrelatable empowered womyn everywhere and lacking in many things which made the original amazing, devs actually tried to make it "less scary" and much more lineal. The main story is kinda shit too at later sections and loses it's grip. The ending was clearly rushed and unfinished as well with stories that never interconnect and can leave a player wondering what the frick to do in order to progress, no shame in using a guide. Endgame It's just that baddly designed.
Maybe it's a random comparison but it sounds like the Axiom Verge 2 of Subnautica. Just so pointlessly and mysteriously a sequel that's the opposite of what everyone wanted, and seemingly going way the frick out of its way to achieve it.
It's really bad. Subnautica is one of my favorite recent games and below zero is just bad. I just wanted it to be over, while after subnautica I wanted it to keep going.
-Map is tiny with extremely tiny uncreative biomes.
-You get stuck with worse clunky vehicles
-No weapons at all. No stasis gun or vehicle mounted weapons.
-When people talk about woke shit they mean this game. Literally all but one PDA you read about relationships involve lesbians or homosexuals. The SINGLE entry about a hetero relationship literally ends with a prayer to Allah about falafels.
-Main character is now a woman that never shuts up. If they had to appeal to this games nonexistent female demographic they should have just made a male and female selectable character. But keep them fricking silent.
-Stupid fricking land segments. They're boring and purely a time sink.
reject water
embrace the sky
>there's land
holy frick
LEAVE
LEAVE THIS PLACE NOW.
DO IT FOR US.
STOP EXPOSING YOURSELF.
He's a moronic zoomer that will never actually experience things.
>Any tips on where the best to build the base
in the darkest abyss you can find
Proper sequel when? Is this dev just too fragile to make it happen?
the devs still have no idea what made the first game good
What's so bad about Below Zero? Should I bother trying it?
its a frankenstein monster of several different story concepts stitched up together, specially noticeable on the level design where other different stories were supposed tonbe told
feels rushed and out of direction compared to the first game. a LOT of really cool stuff got cut because devs didnt know what to do with their own game for years
>out of direction compared to the first game. a LOT of really cool stuff got cut because devs didnt know what to do with their own game for years
It's a lot less that and that people who latched onto the first game REE'd at the female voiced protag, and the general concept of having your sister/the AI talk to you. From playing it when it was first available, it felt like they had a direction but felt that they needed to change it to please the internet, which resulted in a lot of problems.
What made the first game good?
you just explored and found stuff
no annoying story crammed down your throat, you found it on your own
no voiced mc
terrific atmosphere and music
>What made the first game good?
the first 2 hours of the game was obsessively play tested with the game being in early access for so long that it's probably the best first two hours of a game you will ever play
after that though the game nose dives
The sound
unironically the parts the devs hate
Sound design
They fired the sound guy from the first game
Also the second game tired to have voice acting, a story and had way too much land
Below Zero?
Use the cyclops as your main base and build smaller outposts all over the place.
Abuse the scanner room and the hud chip to find materials easily.
For most efficiency see
Otherwise build it where you like it.
just play the game. only thing im going to tell you that you might not realize are:
you can swim to the wrecked ship, and the island you see in the distance. theyre not just part of the skybox.
>you can swim to the wrecked ship
>>swim to the wrecked ship
>>>swim
holy shit what is top right from it's so familiar
Please.
Please
PLEASE
DONT go asking for advice or tips.
Go in blind.
Let me live vicariously through you.
I'm having fun with the game but my issue is resources, do they respawn?
And more importantly is there a tool that helps me find them later on? It's kind of frustrating not beng able to find what I need. Like silver for example.
yes to both.
if you can't find a resource, go to a new biome and or go deeper. that's all there is to this game go out and EXPLORE. please do not run to the wiki and give up.
Scanner room, hud chip
>Scanner room, hud chip
thanks anon
Jesus Christ how about playing the fricking game and developing some synapses? Can you even lay for an hour without looking at your fricking phone?
there are a lot of resource nodes that never respawn but even after you've completely depleted the map you can still obtain resources from reefbacks
>is there a tool that helps me find them
The scanning room, which you get in the first 30min or so
go to the edge of the map and build down the side of the cliff, as far down as you can go.
>tfw you will never play it for the first time again
I love the game but when you know where everything is the mystery of the game is gone.
Haven't tried Below Zero but maybe that might be worth it at some point
is there a map so if i find a place where there's tons of silver i want to mark it for future looting
there's no map. but you can build beacons and place them wherever you want to mark important locations. don't leave home without them. also don't forget to place a beacon for your home.
I'm still living in that beginner survival boat thingy
haven't built a single thing yet
remember to scan everything
>Build a base
>Secure, yet cramped
>Build up and make a skylight
>Fricking comfy
An alternative is to build over the crater edge, and have a wonderful view of the emptiness.
But I can understand that might terrify some people.
>
kino
>Can't find parts for laser cutter
>Almost all places I visit have doors which require it
Search around the crashed ship and the surrounding kelp forests. There's normally some near the front of the ship if youre willing to risk Reapers.
All I can say is to get vehicle mod bay. You'll really need it.
you just need the base you make in the shallows..map is too small. sub i snecessary for end game which is a mobile base for deep sea shit. everything else is pretty irrelevant besides for item storage which isn't even nescessary
Sequel was mistake
Also make submarine as fast as possible. It makes you feel HOME
Really loved Subnautica back in the day, thinking about replaying it with mods, is object pop-in still horrendous?
Ganker hates this game because
>it doesn't have underwater AK's
and
>the sound designer got fired for making anti-troony posts on an account that marked them as an employee of the company
Am I the only one who doesn't find this game remotely scary? It's comfy and soothing.
You are either a person that will find it absolutely horrifying or someone that will find it silly.
There's no inbetween. It all depends on your imagination.
Base location doesn't really matter.
Try to get the Cyclops as soon as you can, because that turns into a mobile base anyway.
Then build 2-3 normal bases around the map for recharging the Cyclops' batteries
Don't listen to this guy.
Rushing specific things is lame.
Take your time and explore organically.
Not him but I played it completely blind and by the time I gathered the resources to build the cyclops and taking it into open water I was surprised at how fricking fragile it is. Couldn't even take it that deep into the final lab and ghost leviathan caves because I kept ramming it into walls.
Seamoth for life.
>grown man
>no fear of the ocean
>horror genre doesn't work on me anymore.
>3 am
>house is dark, quiet.
>music is turned off
>night falls in game
>trying to dive for something
>nervous
>hear IT nearby for the first time
>jump scare makes my heart rate sky rocket
Is the update out yet?
Great game.
You can't build a base on the spaceship wreck (my idea at the time was to fix the rad leak and build a base there ala Robinson.
In the end I had multiple bases. One near the shipwreck, one near the main alien structure, one mobile and one at the entrance of the deepest zone of the game.
Have fun and avoid spoiler at all cost.
Just know that there is indeed a tech to recharge batteries, I got seriously unlucky with drops.
The only tip you need is build some beacons when you can to mark some important spots, the game has no map and I ended up wandering around looking for one specific material for a long time.
Just play the game kid.
Exploration and discovery are its main appeals.
t. beat it for the first time last week.
Woke SJW garbage. And no I'm not talking about the even more blatanly woke first game. main character is a brown zoomer. Dropped immediately. Everything looks like emasculated postmodernist goyslop. Shilled by bunkerchan, discorn troon squad and three letter agents.
Good b8
Who even talks like this? Go overdose on lead, moronic inceloid waste of sperm.
take your meds schizo
You will never be an oldgay,
Ganker was never a shitfricking forum
You will never be a woman.
Frick off and die israelites
>You will never be an oldgay,
Good.
>You will never be a woman.
Also great.
You will never be a man, now go choke on bleach fricking inbred.
The less you know from outside sources while you play, the more enjoyable the game is. Just figure it out for yourself for best results.
I wish I could play it for the first time again. Ah well.
>Any tips on where the best to build the base - or it won't matter?
It does matter because the map is huge and traveling takes a lot of time, so building it in an inconvenient place will make you avoid your base. Also you don't want to build it next to leviathans. If you are still in the beginning I'd just build it next to spawn because that's the center of the map so it's close to everything.
homosexual c**t
I haven't played this game for like 5 years. Maybe I should give it another run now, surely they must have added a lot in this time.
