Form Doug Bowser, CEO of Nintendo of America himself:
>I should be careful about what I personally would like to see (in a new Switch). But what I can share is that one of the reasons that even going into year seven we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over *the next few years* is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways, at home, on the go.
Switch will be here for SEVERAL more years

Like PS4 is still here after a decade.
Switch 2 launches within the next 12 months
Greeeeeeeeeeeeeat.
Someone has to find a new hack
Or just buy good games that you want to play.
Cry about it
It makes sense, they've basically given up on even trying to pretend this passes for a console anymore. It's a handheld system you play handheld games on. Those cute years where people actually believed the hybrid gimmick and that people wanted to play stuff like DOOM and Wolfenstein on it are over.
Ok genius, why would Nintendo release a new console now when we’re entering the biggest economic clusterfuck of recent memory with all-time high inflation?
>muh economy
>PS5 selling like hotcakes despite being $500
Yeah, just like people totally stopped buying video games in 2008.
People struggled to get hold of a PS5 for two full years, because global supply chain issues troubled its production and scalpers took advantage of that fact. Nintendo won't want to repeat that kind of scenario.
Two more weeks gays are still here? You guys said the economy was going to collapse in 2021...
It's 9th gen. It started 9th gen. Also Wii U started 8th. It's almost like Nintendo is forcing the other two out of generations because Series X and PS5 had a massive delay.
The Switch did not start the 9th gen. The Switch is Nintendo's 2nd 8th Gen console. It has happened before.
???
That was the point smartass, who the fuck wanted to play those on Switch?
Me
Actually they look and perform really well on a fucking device that uses battery power. I have some of the other games on PC but Doom 2016 on Switch was super comfy.
don't pretend those games don't look and run like dogshit on switch
Yes, and it looks great on other consoles. Lol just kidding, those games look and run like dog shit on every console. Only a computer, which someone would say would need to be very expensive to play them well. Ok well then we’re talking about a compromise between price and quality. Of course portability is considered and only obtainable with steam deck and switch. So now you do the math. The switch is an excellent system that is no worse than other consoles, is more portable thank other consoles, and cheaper than computers.
Fucking idiot
relatively speaking how do the switch ports fair? relatively speaking
Fucking idiot
Only if you’re some autists who can’t play anything that runs below 200fps on a 3058587k screen.
Normies (Switch’s largest demographic) are always ecstatic when they play Doom on it and it runs decently well, hell the real complaint is the horrendous battery life.
I've had a switch since release and I've never played it in handheld mode.
It was a dockstation during PS3 amd PS4 era.
Now its a handheldbecause doxkdd cannot run games that co.pete eith sony and mixrosoft. Their selling point is portability
Good morning sirs
Splatoon's the best shooter tho
can't be the best shooter with that netcode
They're better off releasing a successor in a couple years when they can more closely match the PS5 in power on a handheld.
A PS5 power portable wouldn't be possible for 10 years at least.
>more closely match the PS5 in power
With DLSS, they don't even need to do that
Keep in mind that raw power is a meme. The essential aspect of the visual aspect of games is three things:
>Does the game look nice on the eyes (mostly art-style and asset quality)
>Does the game render at a comprehensible resolution for its art-style and asset-quality?
>Does the game run at a framerate that makes its gameplay comprehensible and playable and lets the animations be legible?
If the Switch 2 has DLSS and enough horsepower to ensure that the games run at decent internal resolutions and framerates (+30 for RPGs/Zelda/Etc, +60 for Mario Kart/Splatoon/Smash/Mario), then you don't need to match the PS5 in raw power, you only need to match it in terms of output specs (4K with 30 or 60 FPS)
There's no way to match the PS5's level of performance in a handheld. The best that could realistically be done is a little better than the PS4 in handheld and competitive with the PS4 Pro / XSS in docked mode.
>implying
anon please you think I bought this thing for the 1st party games, switch is a 3rd party's dream come dream......
I was hoping to finally play some Vanillaware games that I couldn't, like expansions to Muramasa, Odin Sphere, that japanese-only Knights-something and the one with big titty necromancer. GrimGrimoare is ok, based on demo, but that's not enough for me.
Valis collection released in the west?
Handhelds ARE consoles retard.
>implyinng I would ever play wokenstein
>implying I wouldn not just play it on pc if I want to play that turd
Its fine for Nintendo to remove that shit that no one wants and the ones who wants would play on pc anyways. I want more japanese handheld styled games to play on my fuckikng tv.
muh graphics
ps1 has better games than ps5
>buy and build a retropi setup
>alright time to play some real engaging games like....
>fuck
>every game genre I want to play only really started existing in the ps3 era and beyond.
>Not even rollercoaster tycoon works
>use 120 dollar arm PC as media player
>steam link to pi, basically mirroring my pc to a different room
>whoah boy these retrogames are so addictive for the 20 seconds I try each one and give up on them
Its not all bad, but you're not going to find games like battlefield or sims or flight simulator or kerbal space program or call of duty or GTA 3, or no man sky, or rocket league or any of the other couple hundred games that only started to exist between ps3 and ps4 era. I want to believe old games could be hours of fun, but some game genres just didnt exist in the ps1 era that exist now. I can still have fun playing them, but nobody remembers how shit old games are when you compare them to the ps2-ps4 versions of the same franchise. Ace Combat 2 versus Ace Combat 4 for best example. You cant even slow to stall or the game just takes over.
>you're not going to find (shit)
Oh what a great loss, I can't play simulator and esports garbage on the PS1
>you're not going to find games like battlefield or sims or flight simulator or kerbal space program or call of duty or GTA 3, or no man sky, or rocket league
That's fucking awesome
time for your diaper change
Are you an idiot?
I mean, PS1 has games while PS5 has remakes.
That's not fair, PSX actually HAS games unlike the PS5.
that's unfair, PS1 has better games than the PS3/PS4/PS5 combined.
Reminder that modern NCL doesn't tell NoA anything, he probably legitimately does not know future plans
>year seven
That's fucking wild. Feels like the Switch has only been out for like, two.
That's only because of the severe game drought the Switch has had most of its life. Remember the cardboard gimmick?
>Meanwhile, on bizarro Earth...
Botw (Wii U game)
Odyssey
Dread
the only exclusive worthwhile new games
in the future:
Totk
Prime 4 (maybe)
>I only play garbage like Zelda and Metroid because I'm a normalfag with no real taste
i remember it was this gen's mario paint type game and Ganker took it way more seriously than nintendo did, ye
Because it has no games
Kek I think they actually did an amazing job and learned their lesson with game droughts from Wii and Wii U.
There's all those stories of them sitting on completed games that they're waiting to release when there's a gap, or you've just gotten older and 7 years doesn't feel as long as it used to
Literally impossible since the tegra chip was discontinued
>make your 9th gen console
>other two companies put out theirs
>you decide to keep yours around since the generation is still young
Makes sense to me
Switch is 8th gen.
Console generations make less and less sense as technological improvement have flatlined. The difference between the Intellivision and the SNES is two generations and was a massive change, the difference between the SNES and the GameCube was also two generations and was a massive change, but these types of jumps don't happen anymore.
Gamecube and Switch are also two generations apart and it's a massive change.
Three generations apart. But two would be PS2-PS4 and that is still massive.
Tech development has flatlined compared to 20 or 30 years ago but still improves decently over two dull console generations. Switch was quite outdated already by the time it released.
Tegra X1 used Maxwell architecture tech (released in 2014) and was released in 2015, whilst the Switch released in 2017.
Ampere was released in 2020, and the Switch 2 will (at the absolute earliest) release EOY or early 2024. So that gives plenty of time for this tech to 'wither' and become cheaper for Nintendo to pick up after everyone moves on to RTX 4000 and 5000 series
It's a big jump, but it's way less pronounced. Lile only graphics changed and some technological improvements.
However gameplay itself didn't change only gor refined. Like, there's a reason why a lot of the PS2/PS3 era games have ports with only improved graphics.
Look at Metroid Prime Remaster, for instance. You could easily sell that as a today modern game. It's as complex as a 2020+ game, it's as complete as a 2020+ game, it's as long as a 2020+. The only standard it may lack is voice acting and cutscenes, and even then Metroid Dread is about as narratively light as Prime 1.
>Metroid Prime Remaster could easily be sold as a modern gamr
I’m a massive Primefag and I’m still so confused by the praise Remastered’s visuals get
It looks nice but it’s not much better than a late gen Xbox 360 game
I am not talking about the graphics, but rather the content and the gameplay itself.
Switch is 9 maybe 10th gen.
brainlet take
Let you Switch into you
and show them what you can
Switch it is so cool
That you must show it off
What gen is Oculus Quest 2?
Generations are about when they're on the market. They were never about specs. The PS1 and N64 are both fifth generation despite the fact that the PS1 was only 32 bit.
this is corporate speak saying that the switch will be on the market for a number of years more. has absolutely nothing to do with when the switch 2 will release. idiots
Pretty much this. Don't want to accidentally slow down Switch sales when it's so close to being the best selling console.
the only employed anons itt
it's baffling how dumb Ganker is. remember how the GBA wasn't going to be supplanted by the DS?
or how the DS was going to stay? or how the 3DS was going to stay?
>remember how the GBA wasn't going to be supplanted by the DS?
Kept getting support two years after the DS.
>or how the DS was going to stay?
Same as above.
>or how the 3DS was going to stay?
Same as above again. Nothing's changing, Switch 2 will release either late this year or next year and Switch 1 will continue getting games for another year or two.
Nintendo's late console exclusives are always kino
that's my point exactly, anon. them saying the switch will still be supported doesn't mean switch 2 isn't coming out
the 3ds was discontinued not too long ago. it's a nothing burger
>we will keep on releasing games on our old console even years after we launch the next one
duh, everybody does that
The 3DS was dead in the water for quite a while before being discontinued. It still got a few major releases in 2017, most notably Pokemon Ultra Sun. But afterwards support for it rapidly dried up. The Switch essentially supplanted the 3DS line within a year. The moment they announce the Switch successor, you know that the console is down for the count, even if it won't be officially discontinued for a few more years.
there's going to be much less difference in architecture and power between the switch and switch 2 than between the 3ds and switch. there's no reason why the switch shouldn't keep on getting a bajillion more indie ports for years to come
nintendo handhelds traditionally have an EXTREMELy long shelf life, the nds was still getting games 3 years after the 3ds came out
>there's going to be much less difference in architecture and power
The Switch is running decade-old hardware at this point. Unless Nintendo completely drops the ball, the difference in power will be huge.
>Unless Nintendo completely drops the ball
the last time nintendo released a powerful device was 22 years ago
If the Switch 2's performance is average at the time of release, it will be already worlds ahead of the Switch. By rushing out the Switch earlier than intended, Nintendo basically skipped the 9th gen and will only be back for the 10th.
Nice meme, but the Switch itself was really powerful for a handheld when it launched. The only superior SoC available at the time was the Tegra X2, and it was a pretty minor upgrade.
>really powerful
it was okayish, but a few months later there were already phones outperforming it
Cool story, bro. Phones can barely use a third of the SoC's full power before throttling because there's no active cooling, and that's not even factoring how shit Android is for games. Phones only started outperforming the Switch in late 2019.
No, it was on par for a handheld device. It used the same chip as google's flagship tablet.
>Nice meme, but the Switch itself was really powerful for a handheld when it launched. The only superior SoC available at the time was the Tegra X2, and it was a pretty minor upgrade.
The GPU was decently strong, yeah, the CPU was ass and it was already outdated by 2017. Mirdange smartphones started to surpass the GPU on the switch by 2019, flagships probably a year before. Even then the Tegra was probably the best choice for their product, it was cheap, Nvidia had a lot of stock they couldn't get rid of, and it performed good enough with decent efficiency (got even better with the node shrink to 16 or 14nm).
>The Switch was already outdated when it came out in 2017. It's just going to get left behind more and more.
Rumours are the Tegra T239 chip is the new console's hardware. Apparently, PS4 performance when portable and 2/3 or PS4 Pro when docked. It will have DLSS and Raytracing though, so it might still be competitive enough to get ports.
>Rumours are the Tegra T239 chip is the new console's hardware. Apparently, PS4 performance when portable and 2/3 or PS4 Pro when docked. It will have DLSS and Raytracing though, so it might still be competitive enough to get ports.
Doesn't sound bad, to be honest, but it also depends on how much it's going to cost.
Raytracing on a Switch 2 will be a meme mode
The critical thing is if it's about 3-4 TFLOPS of power and able to hit high enough framerates at 1080p to have DLSS work properly and give games a healthy bump to 4K, then we're golden
There's other smaller Nvidia tech that I'm excited to see potentially get used, like Reflex to cut down on input lag
The last big budget release on DS was Pokemon Black/White 2 in October 2012. There were a couple of Lego games, Winx club, Big Hero 6 and Planes in 2014.
>duh, everybody does that
Until the 3DS Nintendo didn't do that, though. They'd usually cut off most games to their consoles six months before the new system even came out, and support after a successor came out was non existent.
NES was still getting games into 1994 when the SNES came out in '91.
They always say that don't believe their lies. Anyway I hope next system is bakckward with switch/3ds or gamecube/wii/wiiu if discs.
Ganker has an extremely low IQ and even lower attention span. It's like nobody remembers Nintendo lying about no DS lite before announcing a few days later or Reggie saying there wouldn't be a 3DS redesign.
The chip shortage is over already, there is an oversupply right now. You have to be really incompetent to still have supply issues in 2023.
Lol, EE here, chip shortage is far from over. Lead times for even caps and resistors are 50 weeks plus, never mind regulators or or other specialist chips. Talking 3-5yrs yet before things MIGHT get back to normal.
Just hope,nothing happens to Taiwan…..
Kek anons need to remember that 14 year olds when the Switch released are 21 now and aren't aware of how Nintendo ALWAYS pretends there's no new console on the way, especially when they have a Zelda OLED coming soon that leaked and all Bowser said was that they'll continue selling Switches and Switch games but they'll definitely be selling Switch 2 units alongside them
well no shit. Nintendo has put themselves in a corner. They know that doing a new consoll that is not like the switch will flopp. And making a new Switch that cant play the older games, will make them lose 100% of the normies they got that loves the older switch games. They are pretty much fucked. Only thing they can do is just make a NEW Switch like the New 3DS that is the same but more powerful.
Didn’t they say this about the DS right before they announced the 3DS?
the nds lived long after the 3ds was released
pokemon black and white 2 came out in 2012
So did the PS3, Wii, and GBA. I’m not quite seeing your point. Pokémon is also notorious for coming late to a new system.
i'm not saying it will be a unique event to the switch. as you said, it's actually industry standard practice.
the switch will still be getting games long, LOOONG after the switch 2 is out, including indeed pokemon.
The Switch will not be getting any major games after the Switch 2 launch, only indieshit shovelware, and the next mainline Pokemon (coming late 2024) will be launch title for the Switch 2. Screencap this.
pokemon 10th gen is 100% going to be cross gen
the pokemon company is waaaay too greedy to give up on a 100million+ userbase
>GameFreak
>release a game on a system with a low install base
They released Red and Green on the Game Boy like six years after its launch. They released BW2 on the DS a year after the 3DS was out. SS started as a 3DS game and was ported to Switch. Gen 10 will absolutely be a Switch game.
>Sony in 2005: The PS3 will be here for several more years
See, everyone can do it
FUCK I meant PS2
the ps2 was discontinued in 2013
the switch is also throttled by default. i have to use a homebrew to make it reach its full clock speed
>the switch is also throttled by default.
You don't even know what the fucking word means.
hmm i probably meant underclocked
Yup, he's a funny guy saying smartphones can't use the full power of the SoC without throttling when the switch has barely around half the clock speeds of the Tegra X1 specs.
You don't know what throttling means, idiot. Even the OG Switch can be restored to full clocks and still work just fine under sustained load. Nintendo itself made the choice to lower clocks, probably because battery life was shit.
Well it was, wasn't it?
I mean, it didn't have any games, but the PS4 didn't arrive until 2013.
Geez, typing that out really reminds me of how long that hunk of junk had to pose as their flagship.
The Switch was already outdated when it came out in 2017. It's just going to get left behind more and more.
They can support switch and a successor at the same time
That's not how it goes. Devs will inevitably gravitate towards the more powerful successor and the old gen will be left with crumbs. Nintendo will want as many people as possible to migrate in any case. There inevitably comes the point when the market is simply saturated with Switches and the only real growth potential is offered by the next gen.
>inevitably
persona 5 came out on ps3 three years after the ps4 came out
Persona 5 started development two years before the PS4 came out and then its release was delayed for two years. If things had gone according to plan, P5 would've released at the tailend of the PS3 lifecycle.
Hasn't happened with previous gen yet.
It has always happened. Whatever is released after the launch of a successor console just happened to be already in development before the successor was announced. No big names develop anything for an outdated console when the new gen is already on the market.
He’s not saying to say it’s getting replaced before announcement.
I don’t know what you retards expected. Did you think they’d pull a Sega Saturn and bury they’re system early?
it almost looks like anons WISH for the switch to be immediately dropped like a brick.
well sure, even if a new one is in development he can't say it is
that sort of thing will cause sales to drop as people will just say "oh I'll wait for it at this point and buy switch stuff used" or other possibilities
>people still falling for the usual nintendo smoke screen
Cmon guys.
FUCK THE SWITCH!
Oh no NintendoBros
Looks like it's time for another home console flop
Will the Switch maintain its fanbase and strong sales?
nintendo handhelds have never failed
the one, and ONLY thing bingtendo needs to do to make the switch 2, regardless of specs, a smashing success is making it physically backwards compatible with old switch games.
nothing else matters. it's not like handheld fans care about framerate or resolution
Yeah. Otherwise, you'd get:
>What do you mean my little Bradleigh can't play Odyssey Mario on his Nintendo Switch 2???
Ironically, backwards compatibility is the most difficult hurdle with the way they did Switch games. They're designed to run on one chip and one chip only, and every single game is going to need an individual patch to run on new hardware.
It goes without saying that Nintendo could easily patch their first party titles, but if 3rd parties don't do it, 3rd party games won't work at all on the next console.
The MVG video was interesting here.
I'm praying to god that Nvidia thought this out and is figuring out some way to have NVN2 map NVN functions properly.
>I'm praying to god that Nvidia thought this out and is figuring out some way to have NVN2 map NVN functions properly.
That's something to hope for, but whether it materializes depends on who's garden gnomeing who. Remember the leaker reported the existence of a patch for the new Pokemon games to run on not-yet-announced next gen hardware.
>but if 3rd parties don't do it, 3rd party games won't work at all on the next console.
Lol you know they won't
Sounds like a future scandal
I fucking hope. Bayonetta 3 needs a fucking performance patch and I'm blowing off Tears of the Kingdom in case I gotta buy a separate port of that.
>Bro I'm blowing off Majora's Mask because the Gamecube releases next year, it'll play better on that
>Bro I'm blowing off Skyward Sword because the Wii U releases next year, it'll play better on that
You are silly
I said in case you retard. I own a Wii-U and bought a Switch in 2020 yet I didn't buy BotW until I had a Switch because I'm not that much of a Zelda fag. Fucking Pikmin 4 I'll buy twice if need be though.
Now post the portable consoles. Massive hits since they started. And the Switch is a portable console with a dock. They have finally hit the sweet spot and found their niche. Switch 2 only needs to be backwards compatible and still a portable device.
>the Switch is a portable console with a dock.
Wrong. It's a home console with a screen and battery that chops its clocks in half to run portably
it's literally a handheld with video output like the sega nomad
Agreed
In particular, if Nintendo gets a good deal on RTX-3000 tier tech and can run DLSS 2 on their games, they're golden.
Extra bonus points for:
>Completely backwards compatible NVN2 API that lets old games distribute shaders to all of the new Cores without having to clock them back to Switch speeds
>CPU hits high 2.X GHz
The biggest hit of hopium I have is free upgrade patches for all Nintendo published games that adds motion vectors to them and lets them upscale to 4K docked at 30/60 fps depending on the game
Yup, having DLSS and RTX is kind of a bing deal for their next console. They can get away with it being underpowered compared to competition and still offer great visuals and performance.
Yeah.
In particular, if they have enough memory but don't go crazy in terms of raw horse power and let DLSS do the heavy lifting from 1080p to 4K, they'll be fine. They'll be able to host a healthy amount of assets in game that will look good when up-rezzed.
I've been looking at how Yuzu performs on weaker modern CPUs and GPUs and it still boosts performance by a ton even through the emulation layer. If the new graphics API can provide a straight boost to performance without it having to emulate or jerry-rig the original Switch environment, we could see some serious gains even if the new system is only pumping out 1 TFLOP of performance in handheld
>They have finally hit the sweet spot and found their niche
Funny way of saying that they finally gave up competing on the home console market and retreated into handhelds only.
>retreated
nintendo has earned more on handhelds than they ever did on consoles
home consoles are luckily going extinct sooner rather than later
Consoles are going extinct altogether. No point to them if you can run everything they offer just as well on your all-purpose PC, or your all-purpose phone even.
PCs will not run switch 2 games for years until an emulator is made
Nintendo is going to still survive in the long term because of their franchises. You just won't be able to play the latest Zelda or Mario or Pokemon without a Nintendo console.
People got lucky with Switch emulation due to the hardware exploit it had when it launched that allowed to dump the bootrom and other stuff, and also the tegra x1 was very well documented and easy to reverse engineer.
It will be the only place to play new Mario, Zelda, Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
>put pokemon in it
>put animal crossing in it
>instantly generate over 30 million sales out of thin air just with those two games alone thanks to roasties and sois forever shackled to those franchises
VIRTUAL BOY TWO BABY! LETS FUCKING GOOOOO
DAMNNNN, ALMOST
>it's a fucking VR headset
Honestly, a VR head-set with all of Nintendo's resources behind it would probably be what VR has needed for years
Between the Ninty headset itself and the pirating on other headsets, you'd be set
You know VR is a dead end if the most enthusiasm Nintendo's bothered to give it is to have you strap a Nintendo Switch to your face.
It is, actually. That is the patent that people have found. This is what Nintendo wants to do. People outside the VR will have a different role than the one in the VR for their gimmick games. Course the single player game will have the option of VR should they choose. This is why Metroid Prime 4 was delayed so heavily. Nintendo wants it to launch on the Switch 2 so it has VR as an option.
Switch 2 literally just needs to be Switch 2, and roll out at least one of the big seven franchises within the first 2-3 years.
If they can replicate the Switch's launch year and get a 3D Mario, a Mario Kart, and Splatoon and/or Animal Crossing out in the calendar, it'll make the Switch's sales look quaint.
>dude just make the same thing over and over and over and don't innovate
Did you only discover Nintendo this week?
>NES to SNES to N64 to GCN
>GB to GBA
>DS to 3DS
Did you?
This
During the switch showcase in early 2017, they try to make it seem like they've always had a gimmick (SNES had shoulder buttons! Game Cube had a handle!) but realistically, they usually stick to a concept for at least two generations before moving on.
Now, the questions is whether or not they consider the Wii U to be the first iteration in the Switch-style of consoles, in which case we are likely to see some deviation from the Switch idea in the next console because they've already done 'the same thing' for two consoles in a row
> Now, the questions is whether or not they consider the Wii U to be the first iteration in the Switch-style of consoles
even if they don't they might move on. Wii U flopped because it was too much of the same thing
>Wii U flopped because it was too much of the same thing
Actually it flopped because it was very different from the Wii and confused prospective buyers, who believed it was just an expansion to the original or were disappointed it had nothing to do with motion controls.
The Wii U flopped because its marketing was fucked, its visual design was fucked and its gimmick was too half baked.
The question of whether they move on to a new design is mainly determined by two factors, the way I see it:
A.) Does the president greenlight a new paradigm? Furukawa is pretty supportive of the devs but he's also a lot more conservative and safe than Iwata was. He may want to stay within the Hybrid space just because there's literally no competition
B.) Do the devs want to leave? The way I see it, touch controls and motion controls had been a concept for a while before the Wii or DS hit the scene. The reality is that the gimmicks of the mid 00s were likely chosen because the devs had some ideas they wanted to try out. If they don't really have any weird game ideas that they need specialized hardware for, I doubt we'll see a new gimmick just for its own sake.
Someone once summarized Nintendo consoles as being semi-related as a family of three consoles at a time.
For example
>NES, SNES, N64
then
>Gamecube, Wii, Wii U
now we have a 'new' generation of 3 - starting with the Nintendo Switch.
This can even be confirmed on a hardware level with the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U, as all three of them used PowerPC architecture.
The Switch is using the Tagra X1, so even though Nvidia has discontinued this line of apu for products other than the Switch, they were released updated version for the Switch, at least that's my theory.
switch 2? more like switch U
I want to believe.
Makes graphicsfags seethe.
Yes, because nintendo has always meant it when they say shit like this. How is this thread still up?
Nintendo said the same exact shit about the 3DS when the Switch came out and it was a bold faced lie
No reason to do anything different. It has a gigantic install base, and games literally do not need more power than the Switch offers to be good.
Of course an industry obsessed with graphics will eventually force an upgrade, but the Switch is losing on precious little good quality games at the moment. And the Switch is suppose to complement a PC/High-end console anyways.
you get a pc and a deck and you're set for all games
a new Switch makes no sense, Nintendo's first party graphics output stagnated 20 years ago with the Gamecube, do they even have the manpower to make a 4k/60fps game?
Muh graffix are the least of the Switch's problems. How about getting some games that don't run like putrid dogshit
the switch currently runs games at 720p 30fps.
a switch 2 would ideally aim for stable 1080p 60fps
It can run games at 1080/60 in docked just fine
There's not a single game that it can run at in 1080p 60fps
I worked on a Switch game that runs at 1080/60. We struggled with the shitty CPU but with some clever optimization tricks it was not that hard to accomplish. Other devs need to get good.
Yeah, my dad works at Nintendo and said the same. Devs just need to work smarter, not harder.
>can
Theoretically. It really has a hard time staying there most of the time.
a handful of them
botw has hilarious frame drops during thunderstorms, almost single digits
age of calamity runs like dogshit 100% of the time
bayo 3 and astral chain run like ass too
>but mario kart runs fine!
big deal.
i want the switch 2, i'm tired if having to emulate the games i bought to make them run decently
Literally none of what you spouted is true. Why lie?
gaslighting won't work, dummy
>a switch 2 would ideally aim for stable 1080p 60fps
Fuck this such a low bar, I remember the Wii U had more 1080p 60fps games at one point than the PS4 and Xbox One
Considering the PS5 can barely hit 30fps with new releases, it's not really that low a bar.
>Wii U had more 1080p 60fps at one point than the PS4 and Xbox One
60fps games, sure. 1080p? Absolutely not, most games ran at 720p.
This was like 2014, neither console had a lot Nintendo just had more
I remember those threads, and the point was about 60fps. Nobody claimed that the Wii U was regularly pushing 1080p because very few games even attempted it. Mario Kart, Tropical Freeze and other Nintendo titles were all aiming for 720p 60fps. Wind Waker was one of the few games that were 1080p, but ran at a shaky 30fps.
They don't need it but it helps with the bottom line to have something 3rd parties like to develop for.
In particular, the DLSS gimmick would be a nice middle ground.
>Nintendo first party can have fancy graphics while the internal devs only have to optimize for 1080p and add the necessary meta-data to input into the AI algorithm
>Third party devs can have their games look pretty and not have to spend as many resources porting
The main thing isn't GPU horse-power even, the main thing is CPU (for Unreal devs in particular) and Memory
Memory is becoming a bigger and bigger issue so the Switch 2 needs to have at least 10-12 gigs (excluding whatever it's reserving for the OS)
MY PEICE OF SHIT SWITCH IS FUCKING BROKEN IT'S CHEAP CHINESE SHIT
PLEASE MAKE A NEW GEN ONE SO I HAVE AN EXCUSE TO BUY A NEW ONE FUCK YOU SHITTENDO
So will Switch 2 be 2 Switches taped together hardware-wise like how Switch was 2 Wii Us taped together and Wii U was 2 Wii Us taped together and Wii was 2 gamecubes taped together?
sounds good to me
No because the Tegra chip inside the Switch is not being made anymore and Nintendo is just shipping whatever is left in the Switch.
I've seen this point repeated a lot recently but all those rumours are from early 2021.
I've seen no actual source confirming that as a fact from the last year.
TSMC 16nm is dirt cheap now.
Would be like 5 or 6 Switch taped together, actually.
They gave up competing with the other home consoles since the Wii, anon, what are you talking about?
It'll still be around for a year or two when the successor comes out
Who even cares? Nintendo consoles are literally only for Zelda and Metroid and NOTHING else. The next Zelda after TOTK wont be out till like 2030 and Prime 4 will probably be 60fps on switch anyways like Prime 1 remaster.
you grossly overestimate the amount of people that care about metroid compared to mario kart, animal crossing and pokemon
Only Zelda and Metroid matter for the core gamer. Stuff like Pokemon and animal crossing and mario kart is for the normie audience who doesnt even care about frame rate and resolution and graphics
why would nintendo need to cater to the core gamer when doing so is less profitable?
wat. I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying they dont need to make a new switch as only the core gamer who plays zelda and metroid would care. normies wont care as they can already play their mario karts and animals crossings on the switch
>they don't need to put out a successor console to substitute the old, oversaturated market
you are retarded. it's time.
it doesn't need to be POWERFUL like a ps4, but it's coming.
what games would it have that would make normies buy it?
a new animal crossing would be enough to move 50 million units
Too soon for a new one. The previous one isnt old enough yet
why would nintendo care about your arbitrary time schedules?
i just mean surely it takes longer to make a new game in the series. theres only like 4 or 5 animal crossing games in the entire series
if gf can pump out a pokemon game almost every year, then nintendo could pump out a new animal crossing whenever it feels like doing it
Jesus. I've been replaying botw lately, and had forgotten how bad it performs at times, like in the lost woods the framerate goes critical. And thats a fucking launch title. This terrible piece of shit hardware is an embarrassment for a gamer in 2023. Doug Bowser is a fucking gay and needs to be fired.
Honestly, the next Nintendo console will be a success and at least pull PS3/360 numbers if they have a 3D Mario game as a launch title to capitalize off the movie and don’t make a Wii U tier blunder.
Oh good. That means the Q4 2023 leaks are true. They also do this "nothing's changing" shit right before something changes.
you retards have been saying the switch 2 is coming any month now for the past 3 years
you are confusing the swutch 2 with the switch pro
the switch pro was a sliiiightly more powerful hardware refresh like the new 3ds, and i'm glad it was cancelled
the switch 2 is the actual successor, which is 100% inevitable unless nintendo pulls a sega and drops out of the industry.
Nobody should be dumb enough to try putting out a new console in this shitty economy.
Means even if they release a new console, which saying this means it will not be switch 2, that they can have a switch as the secondary console
And Nintendo also said "NX" wasn't going to replace Wii U and 3DS and it'd be a third pillar.
PR bullshit to not scare devs away.
Been comsidering getting one.
What games should i get?
What else?
Botw
Oddisey
Nier
Metroid dread
Bayonetta 3
Astral Chain
Dragon Quest XI S
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Metroid Prime Remastered
No More Heroes III
The reason he structures his statement this way is that he doesn't want you to stop buying the Switch or products in its vicinity as you await the Switch 2. It also doesn't preclude the release of a Switch 2 at any point, near- or long-term.
Nintendo holding back gaming like aways.
Of course it would seeing how it is merely a straight hardware upgrade with the same gimmick.
Pic related is a leak on the Pokemon DLC as well as a hint to a 'visual upgrade' for new Switch is in development.
makes sense they'd go with a "switch pro" approach, why throw away the massive installbase when you can do something crossgen like xbox one and series?
It's presumed that the leaker being ESL just means it's a Switch 2 and not a Pro. It would be a bad move making a Switch Pro this late into its life honestly when they can release a Switch 2 with some Switch games upgraded by patch and people have shit to play or play again and then new games on the way eventually also. PS5 was actually great for this, because I didn't get Ghost of Tsushima for PS4 and on PS5 it was amazing
Switch successor will probably be announced after Breath of the Wild 2.
where do all the tertiary larping outrage and surprise come from? Nintendo always say this, even when the console is discontinued a month after. They had the same discourse with the wiU and with the 3DS weeks before the Switch release
Next console wont run switch games.
Also, its probably going to be another hamdheld with bad specs
cope
>trusting bowser
Looks like tendies will be playing with 2007 era graphics for a long time.
you say that as if it were a bad thing
no modern game has managed to look as good as mgs3
no one over 13 years of age cares about graphics like that anymore.
Bro this looks CONSIDERABLY worse than PS2 games. It physically hurts to look at, this is not okay.
XB2 is uniquely bad because of how it has dynamic resolution blur the game and then a sharpening filter over that.
Look at BotW, look at Pokemon, they all look like something a pajeet whipped up in a week. The switch is awful. I am so mad that I bought this stupid thing.
Why did you buy it?
To play Odyssey and Mario Maker 2.
So why are you mad?
Seethe for another 6 years. Never stops being funny how hard Nintendo fucked this board.
The juggernaut success of the Nintendo Switch, and its incredible library of games, is the biggest prolonged nonstop assfucking this board has ever endured.
I'm so glad I was here to witness it unfold in realtime.
As someone who literally owns a launch Switch, you're a retard if you think that it's not time for a new one.
It doesn't matter because it's obvious the Switch 2 is launching this year, but you''re out of your mind if you don't see the massive technical limitations of the Switch in 2023.
You're out of your mind if you can admit that the Switch's library makes an absolute fucking mockery of every other systems. Switch has more exclusives this years so far than any of the other systems will see all year.
My Switch is my most played gaming device of the past 6 years and its not even close.
I have a PC and a Switch, and the Switch is like 0.01% of my play time. I cannot imagine what kind of garbage you are playing.
>I cannot imagine what kind of garbage you are playing.
GOTY
Keep jerking off to hentai at your desktop kiddo.
So actual walking simulator goyslop, got it.
>dev says it's not a shooter
>THEN WHAT IS IT
>anon tells it like it is
oh shi-
>Metroid Prime is walking simulator goyslop
BWAHAHAHAHAHA how pathetic.
I will say again - because it is just too funny:
The juggernaut success of the Nintendo Switch, and its incredible library of games, is the biggest prolonged nonstop assfucking this board has ever endured.
I'm so glad was to witness this mindfuck and seethe fest unfold in realtime.
>The juggernaut success of the Nintendo Switch
Holy COPE.
LMFAOO you are seething hard at how easily Nintendo won.
Let's remember this moment
The anime poster is still here and still seething.
Its astonishing that he hasn't killed himself out sheer embarrassment.
>all anime posters on Ganker are one person
How does one reach this level of mental illness?
Who are you quoting?
What do you play anon?
splonky 2
BOTW looks great, what are you on?
Pokemon is a Game Freak issue, the Diamond/Pearl remakes made this clear
>Game Freak issue
>Diamond/Pearl remakes made this clear
>when BDSP were made by ILCA
To be fair to ILCA, they were on a retarded mandate by Game Freak. One Piece Odyssey shows there is solid talent in the studio, they just need a proper budget to work with and enough freedom to do what they want.
Yeah post more unoptimised handheld screenshots bro. That will help your case.
BWAHAHAHAHAHA
>CONSIDERABLY worse than PS2
PS2 looked fucking horrendous. You really ought to refresh your memory if you think that looks bad by comparison.
>PS2 looked fucking horrendous
?????
Nah, garage glory shots in racing games look fine at any resolution on any platform.
Go grab a busy screenshot of FFX or GTAVC. Those looked so bad at the time, and had such poor performance that I sold my PS2 after I got a Gamecube and Xbox. Absolute trash system.
>Nah, garage glory shots
That's capkino and the whole game looks like that.
Why are you posting captures from an emulator?
Fucking kek, that's literally what the game looks like.
On PSCX2 with upscaled resolution, yes. Try it without the power of a PC gay.
No anon, when I put the disc in my ps2 and play it, that is what it looks like. How asshurt are you?
Pics or it didn't happen. PS2 is 480p garbage all the way and you're posting images from internet sources using emulators.
Post your own caps from your PS2, gay. Your snoy fanboyism and rose tinted goggles mean nothing without evidence.
>NOOOOO THIS CANT BE HAPPENING I PAID 600 DOLLARS FOR A LEAPFROG TABLET THAT PLAYS GAMES WORSE THAN A PHONE, YOU HAVE TO LIKE THE SWITCH YOU HAVE TO
>jumps straight to "IM SILLY"
Concession accepted.
ps2 games looked just fine on a crt
of course og xbox games look better on an lcd screen, but things need to be put in their proper perspective
It'd be one thing if they used Xbox or GameCube as their comparison point, but I dunno why they keep pointing to the PS2 in particular. The PS2 was notorious for having a shitty video processor chip and often having worse texture filtering than the other two.
this kind of stuff happens like in 0,001% of the entire game. is it bad? yes. does it make the game unplayable? no. people need to stop acting like the game looks like that all the time.
>this kind of stuff happens like in 0,001% of the entire game
The whole game looks like this all the time in handheld mode.
It does not. I played it all in handheld mode (and XBC1 DE too). The framerate drops and resolution drops are definitely noticeable but they're rare and far between.
>is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways, at home, on the go.
This reads like there isn't a Switch 2 in the works, but rather just a new home or mobile console without the docking functionality.
In other words, the Switch will supposedly stay relevant for a few more years as the only console that can do that, even after the new console comes out later this year.
The next Switch is likely coming out end of this year early next year.
https://companiesmarketcap.com/video-games/largest-video-game-companies-by-market-cap/
I wonder why Nintendo's market cap has been in free fall for months.
Probably mostly from shareholders freaking out over Switch hardware starting to decline, which is insane since that's inevitable by the sixth year in (and still selling better than it was pre-COVID at that). I'm guessing this is one reason Furukawa panickedly declared recently that Switch hardware is never going to get any price drops and why Nintendo is dipping their toes into $70 games. Say what you will about Iwata but at least he didn't make shareholder issues with the company the customers' problem.
Yeah. Once forum types start expecting a console's successor, it's always years away.
Wtf nintendo's president didn't tell us there's a new unannounced console coming next year and the switch is almost dead???? that means it's not happening!
>wtf nintendo didn't osborne themselves
No, but the leaks did lol
this doesn't mean there won't be a new console. it just means they expect the Switch to keep being supported with games for a few more years. the PS2 still got games well into 7th gen. the PS4 and Xbone still get games to this day and we're supposedly OVER 3 YEARS into 9th gen. LOL
nowadays the arrival of a new console doesn't mean the end of the previous console any more.
>nowadays
this has ALWAYS been industry standard practice.
only abject failures like the saturn are abandoned like bricks as soon as the successor rolls out
what? no. prior to 8th gen really only the PS2 got extended support. every other console got ONE WAVE of games after a replacement had launched. there would be ONE WAVE of "cross gen" games where you'd have shit like the 7th gen using a totally different lighting/shading model or totally different textures, but otherwise the same game. or you'd even get different versions entirely, I think that happened with some of the Harry Potters early into 6th gen where the PS1 would still get a version but it was totally cut down, almost unrecognizable.
any way, the default scenario is for a console to receive barely any games 1-2 years after its replacement arrives. I don't think the Xbox or GameCube got jack shit 2 years after 360 and Wii were out. only the PS2 lived longer, for three reasons:
- the PS2 had a gargantuan install base
- the PS3 was late and overpriced so it built its playerbase very slowly
- in many households it replaced a regular DVD player so it got to stay even after the kid that originally played on it moved on. this plus gimmicks like the guitar hero controllers, eye toy, singstar microphone made for big casual appeal. even non-gamers could "play" something on a PS2. casual games already got big on the PS2 before they became THE growing market thanks to the Wii.
it is pretty grim. the Switch's CPU and RAM pose problems for what Switch 2 games can realistically be. then again knowing Nintendo the Switch 2 will once again be an underpowered piece of shit any way. do you reckon they will aim for true 1080p this time? kek
>cross-platform with a console that makes everything look like vaseline is smeared all over the screen
Gosh I hope not.
My thesis is that Nintendo really doesn't have much to do. Technology in this area just doesn't progress like it used to. If Nintendo tries to upgrade considerably and release a powerful Switch 2, it will have to deal with things like: price too high for a handheld; battery life running out too fast; etc., and all to in the end have a console comparable to a PS4 of 2013, but optimized for 720p.
Even a performance similar to the Deck would already be something quite unlikely unless Nintendo again make a severe underclock on the device to not allow complex games make the battery run out in an hour.
Best chance Nintendo has now is a dockable VR console. Might as well call it Virtual Boy 2 for the shitpost.
The PS4 is still getting games to this day and for years to come.
1. He said "next few" not several.
2. They don't tell the American employees shit.
3. What the fuck is he gonna say? "Don't buy a Switch, new one's around the corner"?
>1. He said "next few" not several.
Are you autistic?
Few is fewer than several, I'm sorry you didn't learn this in your "few" years of schooling. Perhaps if you had "several" years of schooling you might know this.
Ok, you are autistic.
>knowing the meaning of words is autism now
You sure you're not the autist one of the two?
FINE. I guess I'll just have to live with my Switch for another few years. BUT I HAVE MONEY TO THROW AT YOU, NINTENDO. I DO!
Good. I don't want a Switch 2.
why not
i want to play age of calamity at stable 60fps
I see no reason for them to release a new console any time soon, the switch is still selling quite well despite a pretty weak release schedule lately (not that any console has had a good release schedule lately).
>weak release schedule lately
?
>Fire Emblem Engage
>Kirby's Return To Dreamland Deluxe
>Metroid Prime Remaster
>Octopath Traveller II
>Bayonetta Origins
That's just in the last 2 and a half months.
Notice how you had to pad your list with two remakes.
Notice how you move the goalposts.
Cry me a river. I don't count remakes on Switch the same way I didn't count that piece of shit Demon's Souls remake on PS5.
Aside from Pokemon which wasn't even due to the Switch, all recent Switch releases have performed great so while an upgraded system would be nice, it's not an absolute must yet.
Great, at least I won't have to wait for a new emulator. I'll keep playing with better performance than the owners of the system
I only have a Switch as game system and I honestly don't feel like I'm missing out on anything else besides Elden Ring and the recent Resident Evil Remakes. And those are not worth buying a PS4/PS5/Xbox/PC for.
i bought a new pc for starfield
todd will deliver
>Investors threaten to crash stock if they don't make mobile shit and coast off of their IPs for EZ money, no risking failures like the Wii U
>Nintendo tells them the switch launch will be better and they have mobile shit planned anways
>Switch is actually a success, their best selling console ever
>Higher expectations than ever for follow up console
Given this it shouldn't be surprising
I don't think they're leaving the hardware market or anything but there is a reason they're riding this shit into the fucking ground
Damn is it thursday already?
After buying a 1440p/144Hz monitor, I even moved the Switch dock to an old TV because the experience on that monitor is simply unacceptable. Once you get used to the tiny input lag and high frame rates, it's almost impossible to find the way most Switch games run acceptable.
My experience with the Switch is mostly one with resolutions that frequently drop below HD (720p) and frame rates that can't keep up with the already ridiculous 30fps. Even some first party Nintendo games will have this problem.
Without an upgrade, I can only see two outcomes:
> increasingly terrible games that are below even children's standards
>Games will start to be made specifically for the Switch, taking into account the extremely outdated hardware, like they used to do for other Nintendo portable systems.
I don't envy you anon, I can play Switch games that look bad by today's standards and I can play games with amazing performance and textures without it being jarring. Sometimes I think
>Fuck this is very dated, but at least the cartoony aesthetic makes up for it.
Fucking never play ports of games on Switch though
When the Deck exists, there's no reason to play a Call of Duty on the Switch for the fucking handheld experience
They might copy Microsoft and make everything cross gen for two years.
Don’t get it, why do people want a new console? What are you expecting? Nintendo doesn’t put out games for powerful hardware, anything they can put out will work just as well on the switch.
Even flagship franchises like Pokeman have stuttering issues and long loading times and you are wondering why people want a more powerful console? Really?
You're a moron if you think Pokemons tech and performance issues are because of the Switch.
Scarlet and Violet could be released on the PS9 and they would still run like utter dog shit.
They run pretty well on yuzu right now. Are you saying the PS9 is going to be less powerful than a 2020 gaymen toaster?
Don't be dense. Everyone knows GameFreak can't into 3D Pokemon. Not even the most powerful console hardware would make any game of their run properly.
>anything they can put out will work just as well on the switch
Yeah, that's why we see games dropping to 540p and sub-30fps so often. Go ahead and claim that devs like Monolith are just lazy, because you're such a big brained genius who could easily optimize the code to run at 1080p 60fps.
The best current games are more ambitious than the platform can support, and their performance suffers terribly. It's not about wanting more powerful hardware, it's about getting a reasonable experience with current games.
>why do people want a new console?
I'm still playing on the N64. I haven't needed a new console for 30 years.
Most Switch games even under Nintendo are running like garbage now. Fucking Bayonetta 3 has no business being on the Switch.
>Most Switch games even under Nintendo are running like garbage now
Factually incorrect
Portbeg some more gay. Lmfao.
I own them and have beaten them though, I just want to play them again running tolerably.
>dude trust me
I don't believe him. In fact, him saying shit like this now, makes me believe that the successor is right around the corner. Nintendo always does shit like this when they are ready to put out the next console and get asked about it.
>"Oh no, the DS is going to be around for a long time, we just put out the DSi, right? That is your upgrade right there"
>3DS gets revealed that year
Switch 2 is going to be hinted at this September and will be properly shown off in January of next year, will launch in March, calling it now. Nintendo would be silly not to, especially when they have the perfect cross gen game to do so with. Metroid Prime 4.
>Metroid
>perfect
lol, no. Metroid is far from normalfag-core like Zelda or Mario Kart
Doug is delusional if he thinks anyone will care for the system part TOTK's honeymoon period. They would have to do a real Mario Kart 9 or something to generate interest within those few years.
Honestly I'm fine with that. A dock upgrade for more powerful titles may be a decent compromise
why do people keep pretending that bayo 3 ran poorly on Switch? did i miss something? because it played fantastically and fluidly on my playthrough. the odd drop when summoning a demon but nowhere near as bad as the autists are making out.
Same reason people lie that SMTV and MHR runs poorly. It's a "stealth" port begging method.
Or more like
>we're not going to cripple Switch and retail title sales by prematurely announcing its successor when it's nowhere near release
Yes the Switch is still selling well and enjoys a strong library that keeps growing but you can't ride that bitch forever.
We knew NX was coming since 2015 but Nintendo was very careful to downplay its role to not hobble the Wii U anymore than it already has, much like Revolution didn't immediately kneecap the Gamecube(not that it needed the help), and also waited a year to let the DS have its time in the sun.
Hell, even within Ganker's functional memory anyone can remember the fucking insane game of chicken the PS5 and XSX played with each other, Microsoft knowing damn well they weren't going to let Playstation play the undercut game a third time.
Timing is a part of marketing and that is definitely within Bowser's wheelhouse.
Anon, you could have easily just summarized as "they're trying to dodge the Osborne Effect". We know what that is, you don't need to explain it.
I don't know what that is.
Not that surprising. Why do you think they released the Switch Pro (Deck) last year?
TIK TOK SNOYS
TIK
TOK
Would've happened by now if they price cut the og switch during the pandemic
Not gonna happen. It doesn't sell much anymore.
>It doesn't sell much anymore.
Feb 2021 - Feb 2022: 21m
Feb 2022 - Feb 2023: 19m
Its dropping but not by much. If the next console is really just a Pro model, it will reach that 150m easily.
>If the next console is really just a Pro model, it will reach that 150m easily.
oh, in that case, definitely. But i don't think they will go that way.
And to surpass the PS2 with the current Switch is going to take another 3-4 years, depending on how fast sales drop in the future.
Regardless of what they say, i don't think the successor will be held off for more than another couple of years.
I love how for people so desperate to downplay the Switch's continued success, selling tens of millions a year is somehow market saturation.
It's gotten so bad that they gotta use the Switch against itself to try to say sales are bad
>Switch outsells other consoles
>"WHATEVER, THE SALES ARE JUST ONE MILLION SHORT OF SWITCH SALES LAST YEAR! IT'S FINALLY OVER!"
PS2 should get at least 50 million deducted for DVD player sales, it's only fair.
Kek'd. the seething gays here STILL think the Switch is going to flop. In Year SEVEN.
No, i just think that the sale rate is going to go down fast enough that it would take the Switch at least 3 years to surpass the PS2, and regardless of what they say i don't think they will wait that long to launch the successor.
>It's gotten so bad that they gotta use the Switch against itself to try to say sales are bad
What a retarded opinion. I never said the sales are bad. It's clear to anyone who isn't a motherfucking demented zombie that the Switch was a colossal success and it kept selling for a lot of time.
How long will it take ps5 to surpass the ps2?
It's tracking below the DS and doesn't double as a TV box to last as long as the PS2. The chances of beating the DS are very slim.
the PS2 number is a little dubious because it includes repairs and shit
DS is the real hurdle because that thing was cheap as fuck and fucking EVERYWHERE
>outsold by the PS5 in Japan weekly
Yeah, no, Switch will not reach the PS2’s numbers.
When will you retards learn that people lie in interviews all the time? Remember when the DS wasn't taking over the GBA line? Seriously, come the fuck on. Of course he's going to say sales are strong and they're 100% behind the existing product. To say anything else would harm short term sales.
This means nothing, they continued claiming the DS wasn't even a video game system and GBA wasn't being replaced even AFTER the DS was out. Even if he is telling the truth, vaguely saying the Switch will continue to perform has nothing to do with whether or not they are releasing a new system.
Switch will keep Kirby and Pokemon for a year or two into the next generation, and will be pushed as a budget system for children.
why would they make a new console during a microchip shortage you retard. The medical industry cant even get enough microchips for their shit. you think nintendo is going to get microchips?
>The medical industry cant even get enough microchips for their shit. you think nintendo is going to get microchips?
Yes, actually. Highest bidder gets the fabs, and entertainment is more lucrative than medical unless you're big pharma.
>during a microchip shortage
that hasnt been a thing for years, retard
Fuck, i wish there was a new and better nintendo system, i hate the switch.
mine is collecting dust since kirby
>i wish i could buy a new console that would sit and collect dust
The stupidity on this board will never cease to amaze me.
Is this bait?
He wants new system that's good so it would not collect dust unlike his switch.
If he hasn't played his Switch since Kirby, then why would the Switch 2 library be of any interest to him other than the next 3D Kirby?
>How do you planned to save Nintendo Switch from dying?
>
Will normies even care about Switch 2? They'll need a big exclusive Zelda game or Mario game to sell it. But there won't be a new Zelda for years if they're still working on TotK now.
nintendo doesn't develop ONE game at a time
devrlopment of the next zelda game for the switch 2 probably began the day botw came out
totk was a side thing handled by a skeleton crew like majoras mask
> totk was a side thing handled by a skeleton crew like majoras mask
wan't MMs Teamsize just as big as OOT ones?
what if they have been working on a unique Zelda alongside and ToTK is just supposed to please the crowd that want a BoTW 2.0 and give the Switch a final Zelda?
The 3D Mario EPD, the Mario Kart EPD and Retro, ie Prime 4, have all had enough time to make huge, launch window system sellers. Monolithsoft and Next Level Games are probably not far behind.
It will have a big exclusive Mario, likely at launch. Mario Kart will soon follow and by then we will already be due for a new Animal Crossing.
Zelda can wait.
C O P E
I feel bad for tendies. The Switch is already outdated. They have to keep playing on ancient hardwarevx0wt
>next console comes with no backward compatibility
>”um actually here’s why being unable to play Switch games is a good thing”
I'm prepping myself for that. At least switch emulation exists.
>a man named Bowser is in charge of Nintendo
Before that, we had a literal ape. It's like every US Nintendo rep is a Mario villain. What's next, some lardass mexican cartel leader with a too-stylish moustache?
>How can we introduce new unique ways of playing. That’s always in front of our mind.
Welp, time to get ready for a new gimmick.
>time to get ready for a new gimmick.
Most of modern gaming is made up Nintendo gimmicks.
It's probably costs them less than half in materials to create but they're still milking it.
I'm interested in the switch but they aren't worth the cost.
Thats fine, gives more time for steam to eat away at their market share, and their games are easy to emulate and run better on steamdeck anyway
>their games are easy to emulate and run better on steamdeck anyway
LOL
>niche within a niche
This time, Nintendo is doomed for sure
>niche
>3rd best selling console of all times
>niche
You tendies really are braindead
If Steamdeck sold as much as it did during its first year of release every year it would take them until 2144 to match the current Switch market share. I don't think Nintendo has anything to worry about.
Based, we dont want switch 2
>Based, we dont want switch 2
Switch can easily go on for 3 more years.
Nintenchads...It's up to you to Buy FF from SE after they die. Save us plz.
>nintendo now owns ff
>development is handled by the team that made paper mario sticker star
I don't know what that game is, but it literally cannot be worse than SE's output.
is handled by the team that made paper mario sticker star
That would still end up better than recent FF games.
>They give the FF to platinum
>They scale back on SE's graphicgayry
>It's turn based again
>It still ends up as another bad FF game
This board would be unusable
Bro i will say one thing. I saw this post earlier and the comments are so fucking funny
https://twitter.com/XboxWire/status/1635627142670323714
I understand xbros being mad but nothing sell on that console, even more now that gamepass is a thing.
It is hard to defend xbox when you see the market share of salles. I doubt porting the games even pays the job
>It's up to you to Buy FF from SE after they die
They will die, one day...
Its still a mystery to me where the fuck is that income coming from, their gaming department is a flop after flop
MMO cash and gacha.
What gachas do they own? I dont think any of the trash being shilled here is theirs
Not just mmo and gacha. Their revenue is really balanced overall
They have some big gachas, also ones that are really old. They just are bigger in Japan
Like, aside things like forspoken, avengers and cheap published games like babylons fall, most of their games are successful. People simply pay more attention when something bombs because journos make 10 articles about it.
Sorry, not interested.
they don't want to hint at a new switch because that will stop ppl buying the current one
Retards, it's just PR speak. No reason to tell people that it's getting replaced soon because it's discourage people from buying a Switch if it's getting tossed in a year or two. Remember when they said the Switch wouldn't replace the 3DS and Wii U? Remember when they said the Wii U wasn't going to be discontinued and then they discontinued it a few months after making that statement? They aren't going to say shit that will discourage people from buying more consoles.
The way this doesnt have the name of a singe SE employee and looks like cheap shit... Yeah, tax breaks
It’s over…
They just say that because they don't want sales to drop off from people waiting for the new system.
Keeping it on the market doesn't mean they can't also make a new system
The question is where do they go from here? Of course they're going to stick with the switch, how do you go back to splitting your console and mobile ecosystems? Why would you in the first place? Frankly all the switch needs is a hardware revision.
They'll likely stick with Nvidia and make new Switch hardware for at least the next console and the one after that with whichever GPU architecture is 2 gens old at the time of release.
>actually thinking this chuckle fuck knows what NOJ are up to
>thinking even if he did he's just going to come right out and say Switch 2 is coming killing any potential sales for the current switch
Good. We need to stop the trend of new consoles every 5 years. Technology has peaked and there's no reason to get a new generation any time soon.
Switch was already weaker than an Xbone at launch it's not built to last this whole gen
Ok and? Switch was never meant to be a powerful console. It was meant to do it's own thing. There's also little difference between Xbone and series x.
> Technology has peaked
It hasn't, but even if that was true, Switch uses cheap hardware from before technology peaked, so there's plenty room for improvement.
well I see very little difference between this gen and last. Even comparing the 360 gen there's not much considering it was almost 20 years ago. Of course there's gonna be people who are like 'akshually it uses more quad processors and ram so it's better hurr durr'.
switch has to use power efficient chips, which haven't improved much in the past 8years
moron, there are SoCs that outperform the PS4 while pulling less than 10 watts, battery density more than doubled since the Switch was released while prices have halved. Energy efficiency has seen ridiculous improvements in the last few years.
I think for handhelds it's still fine, the switch was future proofed for like 3 years in advance spent the rest being okayish to outright shit at running new games
The average time between console launches is about 7 years still
You need more?
>no easy hack
yeah i actually do
Why are people so hungry to spend another $300+ on a new console? I'm happy to hang in a little longer, I wish Sony hadn't jumped to the PS5 already when it's barely an improvement.
Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next product
>I wish Sony hadn't jumped to the PS5 already when it's barely an improvement.
???? The ps4 was melting with games like gow and ff7r, this is why they had to have constant loading sequences.
The system is super dated and the games are starting to suffer. Also if they want 3rd party support to continue they'll gonna have to upgrade.
Not just 3rd party, bayo3 runs like shit.
Here's what going to happen
>as much as forum types are speculating otherwise, the Switch successor will be announced in (at least) a year from now
>it won't be as powerful as some are highballing
>if Metroid Prime 4's a launch window game, it'll be cross-gen with the original Switch. Breath of the Wild/Twilight Princess-style
>it'll include some optional gimmick, like 3D on the 3DS
the switch won
They are struggling trying to figure out a new gimmick nobody wants to shove into their new video game, they refuse to just release a normal fucking console because they are too whimsical for that. Switch's gimmick was being handheld, they can't just release a more powerful Switch 2, even if that is what everybody wants. OR, the Switch is the limit of how powerful and thin they can keep their handheld and they're struggling trying to get new tech without needing extra space like the Steam Deck.
They're probably just waiting for the demand for Ampere transistors to go down so that they can buy up more at a discount.
Or rather, they probably have already started buying up supply and are waiting until the Switch has exhausted its demand before launching a new system
The demand is already down, chip shortage isn't a thing anymore for leading edge chipmaking and Ampere is already old hat in the PC landscape. if Nintendo isn't moving now, then they weren't going to move in a timely manner like people thought they would do in the first place. But we already know that from how the Switch is selling and how mindless NPCs and fans keep buying 7 year old mobile technology that they won't hop without a good reason. Which is why the easiest way to force Nintendo here is to basically do the equivalent of feather and tarring them via more media pieces in addition to falling sales. Yes, that is happening in a sense but not even nearly to the extent needed so guess what? The company will counter with PR pieces of their own like OP posted and pretend they didn't see anything until reality hits them like a truck.
I think the decrease in year-on-year hardware sales might prompt them to do the jump. I think, to some degree, it will also be driven by the potential for a greater number of third party game sales if their hardware becomes good enough to run them
The opportunity cost of not jumping to new hardware might be great enough to convince Ninty to do it. And, especially if they're sticking with Nvidia and using DLSS as their new 'gimmick', then the internal Nintendo devs don't even need to start preparing for 4K dev work because the algorithm will handle most of it for them
I'm not disagreeing with what you see but the problem is that they have shown no public signs to do it and interviews like the one Doug gave here actually hurt the prospects. Many people have made their fortunes and died on the hill that is Nintendo hardware speculation since they stopped chasing power. And being this late, no one in the know or normies is going to think DLSS is impressive when consoles already have FSR2 and run better. This is why Nintendo internally already knows they need to do do 4K work regardless of DLSS or not according to a memo leaked a while back.
>interviews like the one Doug gave here actually hurt the prospects
For what it's worth, the Switch was announced 11 months before release (as NX)
The Wii U (as project cafe) was announced 19 months prior to release
The Wii was first announced as Revolution more than 2 years prior to its release.
I bring up these examples to highlight two things:
First, we didn't hear anything official about these systems prior to hearing the code names, and the company typically just said stayed mute on them prior to that.
Second, the time between announcement and release has been getting shorter with each platform, so we may expect to see the turnaround on a Switch 2 announcement-release date be even shorter and thus we'll likely get no news until pretty close to that release date.
>This is why Nintendo internally already knows they need to do do 4K work regardless of DLSS or not according to a memo leaked a while back.
Which memo, I'm not familiar with it. Is this the Nvidia email leak?
>And being this late, no one in the know or normies is going to think DLSS is impressive when consoles already have FSR2 and run better
I don't think the Nintendo wants to impress, they just want to keep pace with the bare minimum they need to compete with Xbox and Playstation for consumers' money. DLSS is mainly appealing in that it lets their devs focus on optimizing for a less ambitious benchmark and let the AI handle the rest (provided they bake in the appropriate metadata into games). It's not about impressing, just avoiding too much disappointment.
Nintendo is never going to try to produce a AAAA game like God of War Ragnarok or Spiderman or Cyberpunk. I don't think their blue-ocean strategy really has room for that. They just want to stay in the running in terms of basic performance specs.
Most living room TVs sold in the year of our lord 2022 in the industrialized world are 4K screens
>I bring up these examples to highlight two things
I'm sorry, you did the equivalent to coping in my eyes if you have to use a past metric as obscure as time from announcement to release. Sure, believe what you believe but I don't believe it until I see it with my own two eyes in a public announcement because too many people have died on that hill and I sure am not going to do that despite what evidence "leaked" or whatnot about new Nintendo hardware and its projected release date. It's just as is, with public information, the chances are low but Nintendo does do announcements out of nowhere.
>Which memo, I'm not familiar with it. Is this the Nvidia email leak?
Bloomberg report about the Pro.
>I don't think the Nintendo wants to impress,
If you have a gimmick, the purpose is to impress the market with it when no one else is doing it even if it's old technology. Nothing in a custom Ampere SOC technically is going to be a revelation when your newest cell phone on the Android side released already on the market can do ray tracing and use FSR, a new Switch can't use that as a unique selling point when there are analogs already on the market that can do similar things. Which is why I think it's not their gimmick, it's going to be some dumb stuff about AR or adding Pokemon Go functionality to the console via a camera or something. And I don't disagree that their thinking on power is broadly to do that, but they are going to be behind on CPU this time unlike the Switch unless they are licensing from Apple or using technology a year or so ago so that is going to be interesting where Nintendo is going to be definitively behind in all technical aspects instead of most but not everything with the Switch.
>, the Switch is the limit of how powerful and thin they can keep their handheld and they're struggling trying to get new tech
Bwhwhwhahahahwhwhahwwhwhwhwhwhahwwh
Lol, arm devices are a lot more capable than integrated grim shit from amd/intel (integrated graphics have only stopped totally sucking very recently on x64, as there isn'treally a market for decent igpus in laptops)
>seven more years of Nintendo emulation
I'm cool with it
I'm never paying for a sony or microsoft console ever again
I don't even like the games they put out
>console makers keep pumping out a new console every few years
>nintendo said fuck it and stays with their portable money printer
Why take a risk on something new when what you have is doing just fine?
You do know switch will be "switched" at the same period others consoles also do, right? The only one who makes 300 consoles is xbox
>sales continue to slow down because everyone who wanted one already has it
>software sales plummet because third-party games can't run on the current hardware
>fall into obscurity as someone else shows up to fill the niche
Yes retard, I'm sure Nintendo will follow your genius business advice and never release a new console.
>retard thinks I'm implying they should never make a new console again
>even after sales actually start slowing down
I always try to keep my posts short but brainlets like you make me wonder if I should start writing essays.
Oh, so Nintendo should release a new console every few years like everyone else then. Nice way to showcase your stupidity.
A more powerful switch would be anything but a risk
I called it all along. Had a feeling that after Wii U's failure, Nintendo would just ride the success of their next console for as long as possible, instead of arbitrarily moving on every 5 years.
so? I don't want to buy games again and buy another device. I want more games for thing I already have.
How do you guys know that sales have really started to drop? Did Nintendo publish 2022 numbers somewhere? I couldn't find them. Thanks in advance.
https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/finance/hard_soft/index.html
Nintendo tracks shipments by fiscal year (ending in March, rather than December).
FY 2021 ended at 28.82 units
FY 2022 ended at 23.06 units
FY 2023 (ending this month) is project to reach 18 million units at most
With the current trend, FY 2024 should see around 12-13 million units.
Thank you anon.
Surely Nintendo already has a new console to announce then. This idea of saying that the Switch will have years of support is to create this idea that the current console will not be obsolete once they launch the new one.
I'm guessing end of year, particularly once Nvidia is ready to announced the RTX 5000 series and new GPU architecture.
A Spring or Summer release date along with some patches for any Nintendo published game and a few others
Good. Will be easy to emulate new Nintendo games even longer.
>buy an expensive bulky gimmick
>use it as a second screen instead of the many cheaper options
Huh?
It's not a second screen dumbfuck. It's the actual computer. The monitor is the second screen.
>cheaper options
What cheaper options are there to get a second touch screen for 3DS emulation?
>no raytracing gayry
I can only see this happening if they release an Odyssey sequel.
>just hacked my switch
>only now im starting to really enjoy it to its full potential
good.
i want them to add more games to my comfy nintendo piracy handheld console
Are they retarded or just too afraid to try something new and fuck up like the wii U?
Nintendo is going to deny that new hardware is coming until the day they announce it. This is nothing new, just zoomers being clueless enough to not understand corporate bullshit.
I'd be fine with the Switch forever.
Why would you actually need more? What more do you realistically want?
>but the online sucks!
The Nintendo network infrastructure doesn't have anything to do with the Switch itself. It's just running on wifi. They can make updates.
>The NSO sucks! My virtual console!
You can just emulate, first of all. Second, this is just software that they can revamp when they see time for a change. It probably won't, but it's possible the change it (for the worse, regardless of it being Switch 1 or Switch 2).
Doesn't mean anything because they said exactly the same thing about supporting the 3DS after the switch launched.
I'm holding out hope for a new home only console designed to work both independently of or in combination with a nintendo switch
Wow so what they said about the switch lasting at least 10 years is true? Who could have ever seen that coming!
if that's the case, then smash ultimate needs more dlc.
Is it true that switch games are only going to work for 10-20 years? Starting to regret my collection tbh. Feel like i shouldve bought sony discs instead of some memory thatll degrade over time
