So I'm off at college and class work + clubs are eating up a lot of time, making it hard to play TTRPGs with both friends and family. My sister decided she wants to try GMing so my family can play TTRPGs more often since I can't always do it, and I'll just be in a call with her while she runs it so if she has questions I can answer while doing homework.
Two problems
She is in 6th grade and doesn't know what system she wants to use.
Later this week I'm going to talk to her to figure out the system she wants but I'm trying to draw up a list of systems. She's played a variety of systems before(GURPs, Symbaroum, Kult DL, and CoC), and she's fairly smart so adjusting to new rules won't be hard for her. The thing is she is getting tired of symbaroum(and I have too), I don't think GURPS is a good idea for her to run, and the Kult DL book has stuff in it I rather her not read at her age. So far the systems I think she can run(based off either hear-say or my own experience with them) with help are as follows
>MorkBorg/Cy_Borg
>2400(Indie Rules Lite system)
>Vampire the Requiem 2e
>Cyberpunk Red
>BitD(and it's derivatives)
>Forbidden Lands
>Alien RPG
>CoC
>Neon City Overdrive
>Savage Worlds
>Dungeon World(although idk if this has the age appropriate issue some other PBTA games have)
>Into the Odd
What other systems out there are fairly simple in their core mechanics and can be ran without too much effort, or may have enough thematic strength to keep her interest. shes young enough that shes still figuring out what she likes, so any theming is fine.

Honestly, throw Dark Heresy or one of its sisters into the mix. That was my first roleplaying experience and I was in the seventh grade, and it sparked an obsession with 40k that lasted until I got into college.
Dark heresy works fine i guess, me and my buds play DH2e actually. And my sister is into warhammer (she likes the Harlequins and Nighthaunt), just feels a tad complex sometimes. But yeah i'll add it into the mix, might make a flowchart that separates by level of crunch
6th grade is, what, 12? She'll probably be fine with whatever if she's a strong reader and, at minimum, not excessively slow with simple maths.
Given that she's into warhammer, I'd say DH is fine.
It's kind of a pain in the ass to navigate your way around the books though, even as an adult, so the GM screen pdf with some extra notes is basically a must-have.
>6th grade is, what, 12?
Yeah her twelfth birthday was just 2 weeks ago actually.
But i agree the book is a struggle to go through. It took me and my friends a while longer than normal to learn it just because the formatting was a pain in the ass(and some weird typo relating to acquisition checks iirc) Ill make a pdf for her for some tips and notes no matter the system though.
the examples are full of hilarious typos
honestly I ended up summarising or screenshotting a bunch of things for my group and ensuring everyone has the gm screen PDF
Who the frick let a 12 year old read KULT?
She hasn't read the book, I ran it and avoided the inappropriate topics like rape and such. Thats why i don't want her GMing it though.
I'd also avoid VtR 2e then for roughly the same reason.
I don't remember VtR2e having sex in the core book but i guess my memory may be faulty here, i thought that it was mentioned in the VtM 20ae book.
yeah i just opened up my PDF and i completely forgot the Daeva. I thought sex was just alluded to or used as reference, not this explicitly.
Oh i absolutely know my sister is reading fan fiction smut, but that doesn't mean i should just hand her fricking Kult DL. vampire is better than Kult
Sex is a pretty big part of Vampire as a whole, the Kiss is very sexual in nature, after all. Other CofD game's might be more fitting depending on what it is you're after. Basic Chronicles of Darkness wouldn't be a bad idea, I don't think, and is a bit easier to learn than VtR2e. Less stuff going on but more examples and explanation. Although do check that out before hand, obviously.
I'll probably take that off my list but keep it in the back burner for when she is a tad older. She may still be discovering what she likes but she is definitely trending towards becoming the type of person who would like WoD.
Also thread is visually boring, going to post an image thats not related.
While some books have more or fewer adult themes, I think World of Darkness is one of the better systems for new players and GMs. For something a bit 'safer' and more focused, maybe Kids on Bikes, or Bubblegumshoe. Or Golden Sky Stories for cutesy animal-spirit adventures.
What kind of conservative homosexual are you? We’re you never 12? Do you think they don’t know this shit already, especially in this day and age. Go back to /lol/ you bunch of homosexual pussies.
There is a difference between knowing it exists and giving it to them to read. What sort of groomer-ass logic are you operating under where you think it's okay to push that kind of content onto children?
GURPS is a modular kit that you can adjust to fit any level of complexity. Use GURPS to create whatever level of crunch you think would be appropriate for the 6th graders, thank me later.
The lighter sort of things like morkborg and into the odd only really work if you already have a background in dming osr play. The reprint of into the odd has alright advice, but it still helps to have already played a more classic game.
Dungeon World doesn't have the sex move problem. Its just not a great game. It can be fun for short bits but even then there's probably a better way.
Try PbtA, it's borderline freeform anyway so she should be able to get a handle on it quickly.
I would recommend GURPS, but the system really depends more on what her friends are like
GURPS without hit locations, using only basic set combat maneuvers is probably fine.
depending on what she likes, you could try alternity. It has fairly good thematic strength, and a fairly decent setting (stardrive)
probably gonna have to use PDF's for that one though
GURPS. Don't know what it is? Frick you.
GURPS is burps
If you haven't played GURPS then you literally haven't played a TTRPG.
>hey guys I know gurps and don't think it's a good idea
>just use gurps lmao
do you guys even read what OP said or are you just moronic on purpose
I ran GURPS in 6th grade, why shouldn't she?
Who knows, OP has decided against it though and basic reading comprehension would've allowed you to avoided a post.
OP has decided poorly
Cyberpunk red is the easiest one.
When i was that little we played wfrpg 1st edition but we already knew the setting because we had armies.
Savage Worlds seems perfect
