teambuilding

is anyone else extremely autistic about teambuilding?

My parameters are

>must keep starters
>no legendaries ever
>must use at least 1 pseudo legendary
>must use at least 4 mons of the current generation and between 1 and 2 from previous generations
>must have coverage for all or as many types as possible both offensively and defensively and must check out as at least "above average" on online team type calculators
>must be attainable before the 7th gym badge
>at least 1 toxic staller, in this case Serperior (Giga Drain Leech Seed Growth and Toxic)
>all mons must hold items

I just try to have no team members share types and no more than 2 of the same weaknesses each, everything else is fair game

haxorous is closest thing to a pseudo legendary you can obtain in gen 5 prior to victory road. Believe me I would have preferred Hydreigon for the dark coverage but catching something for the team at victory road and swapping out my EV trained adamant haxorous was not worth it.

My only rule is no legendary/pseudo.
I don't care about repeating types, in fact I feel encouraged to do it since the games become less easier the less coverage you have

Never really thought about that, huh. Kinda wanna do a monotype run now.

ive wanted to do a monotype run for a while but my autism stops me because theres always just one gym leader or elite four member per type and having to monotype a type that is not represented by another trainer would make me sperg out

Try not to care about it too much. The games are insistent on having NPCs cover practically every type there is, so don’t let it discourage you.

Saw a really good argument for using mono types in Kink`s pokemons ruby and safire video
It makes sence in that region to have alot of water types on hand because of all the surfing wich dosent sound like to bad an idea if the second types of the pokemon are more divers

This, but im flexible with keeping my starter.
If i dont plan out my team before my playthrough however i get this almost real pain coarsing through my body and i autisticly cant even really look at the game case without feeling substainsial disconfort

It really depends on the game but the tactic I've found to be fun is generally picking a few Pokemon that look good, going "I'm gonna use that" and then just seeing where the game takes me. Sometimes I've used the exact Pokemon I predicted I would, and others I ended up with something entirely different (

Not really, the most autistic thing I do is make sure my team is ordered in the order I caught them, and if I saw my lead (e.g. swap an electric type up front to fight an electric type), it has to go back to normal after

Why do people keep using those fucking filters?
    They all look like shit

the starter and pseudo rules do a great job of keeping your team extremely uninteresting
my only rule is to not use pokemon of the exact same typing, 2 pokemon having a shared type via dual types is fine though

Yes. I'm trying to get better with it though. I don't like how restricting my parameters are anymore.

    >Full team of six
    >Keep starter (assuming I'm doing a regular run)
    >No repeating types (outside mono teams and nuzlockes)
    >No legendaries (Sun/Moon was an exception; I really wish they did more with Nebby character wise, but that's for another topic.)
    >Have no more than 3 dudes weak to a particular type
    >Have each mon fight one of the Champions'.

How did you feel about Korai/Miraidon? I like Nebby a lot too, but I also ended up quite enjoying Koraidon

Haven't played SV yet, but from what I've seen, I like Korai/Miraidon.

If it's a new generation I use only new Pokemon. If it's a remake or similar I only use the new variations or Pokemon that were new to that generation originally.

    My parameters:

    No legendaries ever.
    1 pseudo legendary is acceptable
Team must be as balanced as possible, with wide move coverage
Gardevoir must be acquired ASAP, with as many viable waifumons as can be found

      >1 pseudo legendary is acceptable
      thats also a good bar.
      >Gardevoir must be acquired ASAP,

yes. I'm kinda normal compared to you though. here's mine
    >don't have to keep starter
I've used every starter (except rillaboom, skeledirge, meowscarada, hisuian decidueye and hisuian typhlosion because I haven't replayed those games enough yet) and many of them I've used several times. starters are the pokemon I'm okay with reusing the most though.
    >no repeating types (unless the run is monotype or something else that would require repeating types)
I'll only really make an acception to this if they offer enough defensive and offensives differences despite sharing a type. for example lucario doesn't have any of fighting types weaknesses so putting it on a team with another fighting type is usually fine
    >try my hardest to not use pokemon I've used before
lenient with starters like I said but I started doing this as a rule and not just a passive thought after I realized ive used magneton/zone in like every game. it's made for some really interesting teams and made me love some pokemon I otherwise wouldn't have
    >try my hardest to have a good balance of when I obtain the pokemon I'm gonna use
I like my pokemon playthroughs to be like a real story adventure so rather than just get all 6 pokemon early I try and have them added to my team in a balanced fashion. having six pokemon by gym 1 is lame but also having none of your hall of fame team members by gym 2 or 3 is horrible. balancing this when I've used so many pokemon is hard sometimes though
    >try to have a good balance of stats (so not like 6 slow pokemon or 6 physical attackers but one pokemon that excels in each stat at least a little more than others)
it gets a little tedious when I'm running out of pokemon I haven't used and I'm still trying to balance it in that way I like, but it is fun and makes for really fun memorable teams. I recommend doing this if you can though, a statistical hole in your team can be really annoying sometimes

i just make sure I try to cover every type, and if two types overlap then it can't make the team.

I'm pretty autistic too. Ever since my X team ended up being a shitload of gift mons and stuff I'd used before, I drafted up a set of rules that I use for every main game playthrough

    >No type overlap (Broke this in Violet because I used Flamigo/Quaquaval/Kilowattrel
    >Cannot use anything I've used before. Split evos are exempt.
    >No legendaries and gift Pokemon must be kept to a minimum, with 2 at max (and one of them is the starter)
    >If it's an entirely new region/first playthough of a region I must use at least mostly, if not entirely new Pokemon. Repeat playthroughs are exempt from this
    >Must have at least 2 of the following types if I can: Poison, Ground, Flying, Water
I've found that adopting these rules has made playthroughs way more fun and interesting than they would be otherwise
